Estee Lauder has introduced Beyond Paradise Blue, a "shimmering floral fragrance inspired by the seamless world of blue that surrounds you only on an island paradise".
The notes include grapefruit, tangerine, bergamot, Eden’s Mist water flowers, jabuticaba, Belle de Nuit flower, jasmine, orange flower templar, frangipani, vanilla sands, vanilla absolute, melaleuca bark, sandalwood and sun-kissed skin (with cananga flower, neroli and lavender).
Estee Lauder Beyond Paradise Blue is an Eau de Parfum; it is available now at esteelauder and will be launching at department stores this month. (via Estee Lauder)
I love both male and female versions of beyond paradise. BP for men I own, and I must say the Jabuticaba is key. Recently I went on a trip to Brazil and the discussion among friends was that it is one of the most evocative fruits for that country.
Looking forward to this frag (and it's male counterpart?!)
Definitely BP is a summer fragrance, not because it is not long lasting (as a matter of fact something on the formulation of this seems to keep the top notes intact for a long time, and it works) but just the tropical-ness of the fruits is intoxicatingly reminiscent of summer.
I wear it on vacation by the beach… a true winner for indian summer afternoons 😉
Have never totally made up my mind about the original BP, but do like the men's much better than the women's. Hope to get around to sampling the newer Blue this week…
Already time for a flanker, I see! My, how time does fly. 😉
LOL…actually, I would have thought there would have been tons of them by now…or perhaps there have been, and I've missed it.
I'm going to test drive this one for a while. I've never been much of a fan of fresh or aquatic scents; mostly because they end up smelling–at least, to me—austere or lacking any kind of warmth-inspiring carnalness.
However, I was confusingly attracted to this scent. It seems a fresher version of the “Missoni” that originally caught my nose, but ended up mutating on my skin into something cloyingly unpleasant. While the idea of this scent is to evoke “sea and sky” (which it truly does) I find myself being reminded more of fresh mornings and dewy midnights, possibly days wandering the Tuscan countryside or Cyprus, riding the ferry to Block Island…that sort of thing. Then a bizzare realization came over me after reading “Beyond Paradise Blue's notes”…
This scent IS my first apartment and my experience of living in it–disconcertingly, so. I was 20, living alone on the second floor of an old victorian. In my bedroom, I had a scent-oil dish with frangipani oil in it–a scent I'd never experienced before being immediately intrigued by it, upon a smelling in a local shop. In my living room, I had dried potpurri that had been sprinkled with sandlewood and bergamot oil.
In my kitchen, I used a natural orange and grapefruit cleaner that gave my apartment a creamy citrus smell. I was also using lots of tea tree oil at the time (we all know how that scent permeates everything in it's path), “Woods of Windsor” lavender and Crabtree and Evelyn's jojoba powder—my daily after shower routine. My night routine consisted of lotion right before bed; an aromatherapy blend of jasmine, orangeflower, neroli, vanilla, moonflower, waterlily and vanilla. I also used a grapeseed and currant face cream. I also worked for a maritime museum during that period, so smelling salty freshness all day, was business as usual.
I'm not elaborating, nor am I mad(really)…but it's as if someone went back to that memory and took a scent snapshot of my apartment and my life, later to deposit that experience into “Beyond Paradise Blue”. I don't recall dating any perfumers, either.
Sure, those notes fall into a predictable harmony and scent trends provide some idea of what is available to the public at certain times. However, that specific combination as a virtual clone of my past scent memory…the idea just blows me away! I suppose it's earned my peaked curiosity.
I'm so sorry that last post was so long. Feel free to delete it—I just wanted to share that! I didn't realize it would be such a long post.
No worries about the length, actually its fascinating how perfumes can trigger scent memories like that…and sometimes, a perfume evokes something like a scent memory even when I know it is not something I've smelled before. Diptyque Tam Dao is like that for me. Perhaps something I smelled in another life, LOL…
I know! It's such a surreal experience. I remember smelling a scent once that was meant to evoke a drift down The Nile. It was one of the most familiar scents I've ever experienced…yet, as much as I'd like to say I had any business recalling that, I know I didn't! I was just amazed to read about a scent that contained every “note” from a period in my life. Thanks for being patient with my amazement, hahaha…
It's interesting that you mention scent and it's ability to prompt surprising memory recollection. As a student of clinical psychology, my thesis studies revolve around how scent prompts people to learn about or interpret their surroundings—particularily how autistic children do. When all's finished, I'll give more information about it, for anyone interested!
That sounds fascinating…do let me know when its finished!
Beyond Paradise for men is one of my favorites, and I quite like the one for women too. I smelled this one a couple weeks ago, and it was nice. I but prefer the original. I really wish they would make a Beyond Paradise Blue for men… or SOMETHING new for men. Heavens, they have so many for many, and constantly something new, but never for men. It's been 3 years already.
I like the BP for men better than the regular too. You're right, it has been awhile since they've done a new men's!
