It's Tuesday, and Pig In A Blanket Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm drinking a cup of Kusmi Troika, and my fragrance is Le Labo Lys 41.
Reminder: 4/27 will be Next Generation Friday...wear something from a younger perfumer.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Bliss Teapot ("A simple shape and soft contours fuse together in the Bliss tea service. Designer Odo Fioravanti has created a modern porcelain service that is both sturdy and sweet in its expression. Odo Fioravanti took his point of departure from the teapot and cup typology and experimented with creating a simplified and cohesive idiom. The Bliss teapot and cup form a unified entity, in which the cup can rest on the top of the teapot until the tea is to be served.") is $50 at Normann Copenhagen.
I don’t know who composed it, it was a blind buy that has since been discontinued, but it happens to be my favourite Diptyque: L’eau d’Elide. A wonderfully strange lavender.
From Diptyque’s prime 🙂
I looked up ‘pig in a blanket’, and now I want one! I had no idea that this is how they are called in English. 🙂 Last time I ate this food was years ago…
Thanks everyone for your suggestions for younger perfumers project.
It turned out that I have a scent by Cecile Zarokian, so today I am wearing Masque Milano Tango. Amber, spices – boozy and animalic. It is a bit too much for me, but a good scent for cold weather.
Ditto, probably haven’t eaten (or seen!) one in YEARS.
They’re a Christmas dinner staple here!, (uk) definitely my kids fabvourite part of a roast/Sunday lunch.
Oh fun! My son never loved them. He did love corn dogs, which to me are very much a related food item.
I just saw some in the frozen aisle at Trader Joes!
Interesting. Pigs in a blanket seem to be a big thing to serve at weddings where I live. The last 3 that I attended all had them as part of the pre-wedding dinner appetizers.
Finally Spring is here! Beautiful sunny, warm day! Wearing Diorissimo and enjoying already all the spring perfumes that were so much missed. Have a great day everyone!
Diorissimo is perfect for today. You smell beautiful!
Thank you! ????
You smell beautiful! I bought a partial bottle of the vintage EDT off the bay. The top notes are a little odd, probably off, but the dry down is lovely. I get a rubber note in the opening. Is that typical? The juice is yellow not amber which is why I chose this bottle over others. I read on BdJ that amber colored juice could means the scent has gone off.
Thank you, Petunia! I am wearing the EdT. I bought my bottle approximately 10 years ago and the juice is clear. I have not noticed any changes in the notes and I do not get any rubber note in the opening. I used to have a small decant of the vintage that I finished last year and no rubber for me at all. Maybe is my nose that cannot smell it.
I have the same exact bottle, I think? Mine has a white plastic cap.
Mine has a gold cap.
Also, copying you in Diorissimo today. Gotta show my new-to-me bottle some love. I’m not getting the rubber note today. I had already sprayed on No 19 yesterday when I first tried it. Maybe it wasn’t a good mix. Mmmm…beautiful!
I definitely get rubber from my vintage edt too. Juice is yellow, houndstooth box.
Yes…I have the same one.
I have a partial vintage bottle with amber-y liquid, but it doesn’t smell off. I have a small decant of another vintage and it’s a darker amber color and the top notes smell off/old/acetone-y. I have another small decant of vintage and the juice is more yellow and it smells similar to my partial bottle. Hmm. Rubber. I’ll have to re-sniff to see if I notice that.
Hurray!
????
Have a great day, PL67!
Thanks KellyC! The same to you.
You are smelling fantastic!
Thank you! You also smell great in Pulp.
Thanks! Pulp is, for me, a crazy cheerful “Get ‘er done!” scent.
I love Diorissimo! You smell amazing!
I purchased a vintage bottle about a year ago off eBay. It wasn’t ever used, but was a deeper color in the box. I smile each time I put it on.
Spray lavishly and enjoy!
Thank you! Vintage Diorissimo is absolutely gorgeous. I am glad you were able to get a bottle. Let’s enjoy the beauty of this amazing perfume.!
Robin, you smell sooooo good.
Not sure what to make of Pig in a Blanket Day at all. But I’m wearing Infusion d’Iris Absolue this morning and feeling kinda meh in it. Some days it’s perfect. Not today. I’m going to resist the temptation to to spray anything new before the evening, though. Some days nothing satisfies, and I don’t want to end up in a weird concoction of mismatched scents.
Sorry you are not feeling it!
Thanks, Robin. I probably won’t make it to evening, but I’ll try to limit myself to just one more scent today, preferably one that doesn’t clash with what I’m already wearing.
For what it’s worth, I think you smell wonderful.
Thanks, Luna Green!
I think you smell good!
Thank, KellyC!
That’s one I have to really be in the mood for, too.
It has officially worn off. Now I get to start over with a new SOTD!
Bucoliques de Provence today. I have to look up how to spell it whenever I post that I am wearing it. It is a staple for work. I would love to try their Un Air de Bretagne. The store near me that use to carry them stopped. Maybe in a swap some time…
I love BdP. I bought a bottle in Paris and then ended up giving it away to a friend who never wears it. I think it’s so beautiful, and I regret letting my bottle go.
Oh no 🙁 is there a strategic way for you to get it back? Or maybe to spritz yourself whenever you go over? Or maybe to say, “Hey, can I make myself a decant?”
That’s a great idea, Koyel. I’ve just purchased some new bottles for decanting, so I have everything I need to do just that. Thanks for the suggestion!
House twins! Sometimes L’Artisan has Un Air de Bretagne on their samples page – it may pay to keep an eye on it.
https://www.artisanparfumeur.com/perfumes/samples.html
I’m wearing OJ Osmanthus again and really enjoying it (and our gorgeous spring weather).
LOVE the teapot and cups. They appeal to my love of Scandinavian style beautiful simplicity.
I like that teapot too, and for once, it is reasonably priced.
I also love the tea set. The shape of the pieces and the mix of white and grey is fabulous.
There is sun in the sky, and we are only forecast to go below 0 twice in the next week !! To celebrate, I am wearing Insolence EDT, and am currently imitating a violet butterfly.
Sylvaine Delacourte isn’t a young perfumer, bu this scent of hers is young at heart.
Strictly speaking, Sylvaine Delacourte is not a perfumer at all — she does creative direction. The young at heart Maurice Roucel did Insolence 🙂
Oh – I didn’t know that. They are named as co-creators, and I knew he wouldn’t qualify as young, so I was at least trying for the theme 😛
And she did presumably have much to do with its creation! But she is not a perfumer by our definition. You could argue that in many cases creative directors get even less “credit” than perfumers.
I may join you as the natural scent I have on wears off. I also preferred the EdT (as you noted). The EdP was more adult, but something in the brazenness of the EdT drew me in.
You smell great.
Baiser de Russie. Rainy day. April has been mostly horrible here. (Then again we say this every year so I shouldn’t be surprised). With my doggo at the vet to have her listen to his murmur (just discovered last visit). Hoping it hasn’t progressed to the point of needing meds.
Oh, hope doggo is ok!
I hope the appointment goes well.
Update – his murmur hasn’t changed and we took some baseline chest films so we can compare if he starts developing symptoms. The vet was very surprised I brought him back when she suggested rather than waiting a year. I’m such a rule- follower it didn’t occur to me not to!! (Plus- he’s my baby!!)
Haha good for you for bringing him back at the right time and I’m so happy he isn’t worse!
I was picking up expensive meds for my cat yesterday, and the pharmacist smirked, “You must really love your cat.” Well, yeah—like you, he’s my baby.
Bad pharmacist! I mean, maybe good at his or her job, but really! Anything for the fur babies if one can afford it.
Koyel, are you getting your cat’s meds at Costco? I had a great vet suggest that when Teflon kitty needed some stuff.
Jalapeno, yes, I do get this particular medicine at Costco!! It’s, uh, $708 at Costco for a month’s supply. I shudder to think how much it costs outside of a store where everything is cheaper.
Glad he’s holding steady!
MMKinPA, it’s good to hear that things are not progressing with your pup.
Twins!
Pigs in Blankets (is that the plural??) are good, but mostly as a vehicle for mustard.
After reading the Tropic of Capricorn review, I decided to pull out my Jolie Laide samples. Cleo de 5 a 7 is what I tried for this morning. Not long lasting, but a vintage feel. May keep trying the others throughout the day…
I did pull the trigger on Insolence EdT from the discounters. Almost free…
Mustard yes. Always. 🙂
I’m wearing your almost free scent today. I prefer the EDT to the EDP
Mmmm, nice. Insolence EdT is one of my favorite perfume buys ever, bought it unsniffed, and it’s worth every little penny.
Hi everyone. Today I’m wearing Woman in Gold By Killian. This is from a sample I have in my purse. I had to laugh, because i have so many plastic bags of samples i carry with me. I thought, if I ever get pulled over, I look like a perfume dealer. Lol! Oh, and apparently, my auto correct wants me to be Woman in Golf! Although, most of the time I do feel like A Woman engulfed. So…
This made me laugh ????
♥
LOL!
Heeheehee!
Glad, I could give everyone a laugh ????
Ha! those mini vials could look nefarious. I feel like a miniature chemist, they are very pleasing tho when they don’t have the tags sit together nicely and the clink 🙂
🙂
????
????
SOTD Opardu has become a love, gosh darn it! But happy to have been given this decant as I never would have sought it out otherwise. It does have a vintage vibe. Weirdly both creamy and powdery to my nose. May save some for a wedding in June-it’s a perfect wedding scent!
Oh, and I just ate a ham and cheese croissant (from Butterfields for the UESers.). Counts as a pig-in-a-blanket!
Oh yes…that definitely counts. I need to sniff Opardu – sounds very nice.
Opardu is so pretty!
I have a bottle I will never finish, and I’m happy to make decants from it.
Oh, wow! What a generous offer! I’m sure you get get interest for splits here (myself included).
Let me know! ????
You smell great! i got to smell Opardu recently, expensive, but maybe worth it!
Thank you! It’s a bit beyond what I’m willing to spend on 17.5ml.
Opardu is so pretty. I wish my decant wasn’t in storage with most of my perfumes
I love me some Opardu!
SOTD is the lovely layering of Eau Claire des Merveilles over Eau des Merveilles. It’s supposed to get to an unseasonable 84F here today so I wanted something relatively light.
For KellyC – you probably wouldn’t have seen my answer to your question yesterday about Le Galion Iris, so I’ll respond here. It’s a very iris-forward fragrance, with a tiny bit of metallic-ness and very little powder. Not too much carrot, but some – just enough to remind that iris often has a bit of carrot. Sometimes it feels almost like someone snuck a bit of incense in it … but that might just be my nose. I love it for spring and summer.
Thaaaaanks! I did not see it! I’m always on the look out for good iris scents. Can handle a little rootiness, but not too much! And you smell great today, by the way!
I’m sitting here eating a sausage kolache, which is a kind of pig in a blanket, in that it is a small sausage wrapped in dough. Today I finished the last of a decant of Voleur de Roses. I don’t have to wonder if it is FBW, because I already have a new full bottle.
I was just thinking how much I love kolaches! Haven’t had one in years. Enjoy 🙂
Yum! I love sausage too.
I had not heard of those but they look delicious!
One of my favorite bakeries serves “kolachy”, which I am assuming is the same thing. The bakery specializes in Central European and Russian classics. They stuff their’s with plum and custard. Here’s a link–you have to scroll down to reach the kolachy–but I know some you won’t mind bakery window shopping!
https://crixacakes.com/archives/category/cafe_menu
I did not mind one bit!
Fatima’s Thighs! Pave Vergiate!
Thanks for posting the bakery link, Kevin and I will have to check this out!
Dang! Not helping my serious carb cravings. Interesting that the word “prune” seems to have been shifted to the less old-fashioned “plum”. I noticed that on the grocery store prune containers (dried plums) also. Plum lekvar (prune lekvar) is prune paste-like what they use in hamentashen.
Oh how I miss my grandmother’s buttery, flaky hamentashen. Her apricot and prune ones could transport you! (She died, never sharing her recipe. I know she used sour cream in the pastry, and I have discovered that other Jewish women of a certain age did so as well… one day I will try to figure it out.)
In central Texas, where there are many Czech settlements “Kolaches” are very much like the Russian Kolachy. They are a sweet dough with a fruit compote on top, occasionally drizzled with white frosting. My favorite of that type of Kolache is poppy seed. The majority of the rest of Texas only understands a kolache to be the sausage type.
That is interesting! The dough in the lokachys I know is a soft, breadlike dough–more bread dough than pastry. It is sweet for bread, but not very sweet. It basically serves as a delivery system for the plum (or prune) conserve and eggy vanilla custard.
lokachys? I can’t even blame that on autocorrect. Oy.
Now I am craving rugelach & rhubarb cream pie! Yum!
That is the most architecturally beautiful bread pudding I have ever seen.
Aaahhh, you must live in Texas! We call my 11yo nephew the King of Kolaches. He loves them in absolutely every variety.
Your nephew is clearly precocious and will accomplish great things!
I’m wearing Providence Perfumes Moss Gown, which I love, but I used a new conditioner which is interfering with some cloying vanilla-ness. Oh how I wish all hair products were unscented!
Is your conditioner made by Drybar? I use one of their conditioners and really disliked the cloying vanilla initially, but I’ve become quite fond of it.
I also have a scalp treatment conditioner that I use occasionally that has a very very potent aroma of vinegar and tea tree that lingers (okay, not so much lingers as reeks for the whole day.) I’ve started running some of the Drybar through my hair after using it to neutralize the scent and it works really well for that.
When using it as a conditioner I don’t find the Drybar to interfere as it eventually fades.
Nope, Carol’s Daughter. It’s a fine scent but I just wanna smell how I wanna smell.
Ohhh ya. She makes a monoi (or tiare?) something-or-other spray that I really liked but the scent was overwhelming and interfered so I had to stop using it. It smelled good, too!
I wouldn’t want anything to interfere with Moss Gown either.
Good morning, all! I will be wearing MDCI Pêche Cardinal again, because I love the tuberose dry down so much. The perfumer is Amandine Clerc-Marie, and I know almost nothing about her.
Scroll down a bit here:
http://faireletourdumondeenparfums.com/en/stay-tuned-for-the-womans-day/
Rereleased Iris Ganache today.
Ohhh, how’re you liking it?
This was one of those mornings where nothing really appealed, so I decided to go with something easy. I’m wearing Aqua Allegoria Rosa Pop.
You smell lovely!
I’ve never smelled it but for some reason I love the name Rosa Pop 🙂
I really like that one! I think someone put it up for the latest swapmeet, but I didn’t act on it…. Why not? I don’t remember, but I think it was swap fatigue. Oh well, I already have enough lovely, well behaved roses, I guess. But it really is so nice!
Wearing Lubin Grisette and trying to hold on to those spring vibes as the temps start to drop and the clouds roll in.
You smell very pretty and springlike — and yeah, wishing the rain away here too.
Stellar warm sunny day yesterday, gray chilly rain today. How fickle is spring. Wearing Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions. Josh Myers is young, right? I could coast on theme all week.
Ha, I guess most current perfumers are younger than me, that’s what counts as young, right?
That’s what I’m thinking! 🙂
Today I’m wearing Armani Prive Iris Celadon…yes I am again on an iris kick and can’t help myself.
It’s a great kick to be on. You smell gorgeous!
We are twins today!
I remember my favorite aunt loving pigs in a blanket. Sometimes my mother would make them for a cheap Saturday night dinner. I never was crazy about hot dogs because although I am not a picky eater and will try most things, hot dogs and other nitrites didn’t always agree with me. The only time I will eat a hot dog now is at an outdoor event when the aroma in the air makes me want one.
I only buy nitrite free dogs, cold cuts, and uncured bacon. I feel less guilty eating them (but all the poorer for it!).
Ugh, tell me about it. I’m careful which ones I get, but you sure do pay for being more careful.
Good morning Y’all!
Been busy doing the Mom things for the past several days, so no posting much. Only 23 more school days left….LOL!
Wearing Chanel No 5 Edt and feeling very posh and professional…good for end of the month reports.
PS. I gotta say it: Duchess Kate is my hero. Gives birth, and just a few hours later appears for photos beautifully dressed, hair styled, and smiling? I don’t care if a staff helped her or not…..an army of professionals couldn’t have gotten me out of bed that quickly looking decent! LOL! And she’s pulled it off 3 times? I felt like a truck had hit me each time! 🙂
Yes, she’s amazing!, talk about unrealistic expectations tho!
SERIOUSLY. That’s ridiculous. I’ve never given birth and never intend to, but I can imagine little worse than having a team of stylists crowding around me hours after going through a serious medical procedure.
I’m with you on this one, also never having given birth. Going home, sure. But this, not so much.
I wouldn’t really enjoy that on a regular day, actually, lol. Can’t a girl just have a messy hair, no makeup day?
It’s just a different kind of existence they live in. I can’t, even imagine.
Unless the birth is a difficult one, the NHS often releases the mother the same day or the next. It’s not just stylists, but truly superior maternal care and not treating pregnancy as an illness.
Who treats pregnancy as an illness?????
I don’t think the US treats it as an illness per se. But, there are tons of vaccines for Baby to get, and so much paperwork for the parents to fill out (Social security, birth certificate, etc), that leaving the same day would be a challenge. Plus, if I’m perfectly honest, I needed that 2nd day to focus 100% on nursing and memorizing every detail of my cherubs….LOL!
That said, I definitely think it’s best to get outta there as quickly as possible! LOL! Everyone sleeps better at HOME, and there is less possibility of hospital acquired infections. But I promise I didn’t leave in a dress and neat hair! They wheeled me out to the car in pajamas and socks!
HA! After all that hard work you did, leaving in pjs is to be expected!
Surely Victoria Beckham could have designed a suitable royal onesie for the occassion?
Ha! Wills and Kate and George and Charlotte should each have had their own specially designed onesies!
Jada, did you see the eggs hatch? Are you sure a critter didn’t get to them? I don’t think momma goose would just up and leave two unhatched eggs, would she?
No…I didn’t get to see! It happened over the weekend….The maintenance guy that’s been watching with me saw that several of the eggs were cracked (looked like they do when chicks hatch), so he assumes that all was well with Mama….
Those 2 eggs that didn’t hatch are gonna be stinkers soon! LOL I always think of Charlotte’s Web, when Fern’s brother fell on the “dud” eggs….LOL!
I’m gonna go look for Mama and babies during lunch! I shall report! For those who have no idea what we’re talking about, here are my links to the “Egg Watch”! LOL

SOTD: Diptyque Volutes
I consider this a spring version of Chergui, although Chergui I feel could be worn year round as its nuances show through in the different temperatures.
I must try Chergui in different temps, I’m feeling a craving for it now! I love Volutes too, and do like that one in the spring time.
I wore Gourmand Coquin last night and just the 10 or so degrees increase in temp really made the spices and smoke come out. I guess that’s why I found it so addictive last summer even though it seems like it would be best in winter.
Volutes is so wonderful! You smell great!
Good morning 🙂
We just got back in town yesterday after a few days in Orlando. My SOTD is Acqua di Parma Colonia Assoluto, which is my souvenir from my vacation.
Oh! I bet you smell really fresh, based on the notes. How do you find it?
Its very easy to love. Wearing it is like the Commodores’ song “Easy Like A Sunday Morning” 🙂
Wow- what a great way to describe it!
I’m most definitely not on theme, with vintage Dorrisimo edt on one wrist, and vintage le Dix edt on the other.
this is a more challenging project for sure!
Awesome teapot vibe!
However, I’m drinking hot hot strong coffee and sporting Lush Cardamom Coffee.
Wakey, wakey Deva!
You smell EXCELLENT. And ALERT.
Today’s SOTD is Clarins Eau des Jardins – another beautiful spring-time scent, with citrus notes, black currant bud, rose, mint, herbs and a vetiver, patchouli and white musk dry down.
That sounds really wonderful! I bet you smell terrific!
Thanks! It’s a softer (and waaayyy cheaper) version of Dyptique’s L’Ombre Dans L’Eau.
The EdJ lotion and shower gel are so refreshing! Try them if you get the chance!
Oh my! I will be sure to try at a Nordstroms! Thank you!
Will have to try it, as I love L’Ombre Dans L’eau!
It’s a No-Brainer Spring perfume.Love Love LOOOOOVE it!It’s one of those fragrances you can describe as “bursting with scent”-kinda?Right?Right.
You smell wonderful, and I long for Spring on a chilly Fall late afternoon.
X
Happy Tuesday!
1) Fickle Spring! It will be about 82F today in Portland metro, then a coupe of days of heat- then back down to 59F on Friday! Sigh.
2) Am in Cap Neroli. I smell great, if I do say so myself! 🙂
3) Am in a crisp cotton blouse and blue linen slacks, with black heeled sandals. I am so ready for the mini heat wave! 😀
Super hot here, too. However, I am totally looking forward to the cool down! Winter, come back!!????
Awwww. I have co workers who are saying the same thing! So many of us ARE NOT ready for the heatwave!
I’ll never understand PNWers.
🙂 I’m THRILLED about the advent of warmer weather! I expect I’ll feel otherwise in August, but right now, 80 degrees feels wonderful! (As long as I’m prepared for it and am wearing little socks and short sleeves.)
I am wearing Bois Farine today. The day started rainy and grey, and I thought it would be perfect. However, the sun has appeared and guess what? It’s still perfect!
Yay, because I do love Bois Farine. One of many I regret not buying when I could…
I think I participated in the group project earlier today with:
Figue Aoudii, Maison Incens – perfumer Nose Irina Zhurikhina-Nesa
I can’t find out much about her, but all her creations are recent.
I wish I could recommend this perfume. It’s a little suffocating, and I had to wash it off.
QUESTION: when you are considering buying something, realize the cost – then go around and around in circles thinking of all the different options of perfume you could purchase for the same price – is there anything you do to break the cycle? Some perfume related incantation perhaps?
Step 1: balance check book
Step 2: pay bills
Works like a charm 😎
???? I’ll try that!
LOL yep!
To the question: Oh, so you do that too? Ha!
Notes REALLY have to speak to me- and then I will just take the plunge.
all.the.time.
Actually, these comments are helping me to rethink this cycle – I’m focusing more on the $, so I’ll put myself on a “no buy” for the rest of the month – I think I kind of just want to acquire something rather than really wanting the thing itself.
Oh yes, this is a big problem for me (that need for ACQUISITION! the capitalist monster!).
It helps me to make lists of priorities. Is it in your top 5 or 10 perfumes that you “need”? Have you been aching for this perfume for a long time? Do you frequently wish you had it when you are thinking of what you want to wear that day? And, if it’s quite expensive, have you first gotten a decant that you have really used? These are all things I try to think about.
Hope this helps even a little. I can’t say I do a great job of listening to my own instructions, but I do my best!
This is a good mental checklist – I just feel like I’ve bought a good amount of perfume, but in the morning “I have nothing to wear” ????
This is a little cheesy but I find that checking out books from the library helps when I have the acquisition bug but don’t want to spend money!
That’s a great idea!
No. 19 Poudre for my flight to San Diego! Think good travel thoughts for me. This is the first real vacation my SO and I have had since fall 2011, other than a weekend stay at a nearby island last spring.
Bon Voyage!
Enjoy!!!
YAY!!! Have a fantastic getaway!
Have fun!
Good luck and well deserved!
Wow, sounds like this vacation is a long time coming! Have a great time.
Have a great trip!
Safe travels! ✈
Have a wonderful time!
Thanks everyone! Leg one of flights is behind us. We’re lined up in Sacramento to board soon.
Ever since we moved to Seattle, we have at least two to three visitors a year so we end up taking most of our vacation time for that. I have gone back to Ohio for visits twice in the last five years, but that’s not vacation. I also met up with a friend in Denver a few summers ago, so at least I’ve gotten away on my own.
I hope the rest of your travel time goes fast and is uneventful! ????
It’s supposed to be hot here for April so I spritzed Cedrat Enivrant for a cool citrus blast. This morning as I stumbled into the kitchen to make the coffee, I saw a squirrel on a branch so thin it trembled every time its tail twitched. It was stuffing newly unfurled leaves into its mouth as fast as it could swallow. Salad for squirrels.
Squirrels are so fascinating to watch! And you smell great.
Somewhere at some point in time in the neighborhood I live in there was a massive cache of peanuts (in the shell.) You’ll see peanut shells scattered everywhere you look in the warm months, and can often catch a good view of a squirrel eating one. I was able to watch a squirrel, from just a few feet away, burying a peanut last fall and it was seriously one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen. *dig dig dig* *sweep sweep sweep* *pat pat pat*
I used to really hate squirrels and was pondering the other day when it was that I’d come around to finding them cute. I think my dislike was rooted in fear after going to school on a campus with a very aggressive squirrel population. I guess my phobia wore off at some point.
I used to have breakfast almost everyday with a friend while at college. On the way to our respective class, we used to see squirrels scampering about. We also happened to take extra-curricular Hebrew lessons. My friend used to greet them with Boker Tov. He went from greeting them to just calling them the little boker tovs. I still smile at the memory.
I don’t think I knew that they eat greens! That sounds really cute.
Feeling a little sorry for myself with a really bad infection on my middle finger that is making my had swell up. I’ve been soaking it in hot water and applying a mega topical antibiotic ointment for days— but I am starting to feel a little achy all over so time to see a professional. Today at 10:30 whoohoo… So yucky feeling that only lavender will do. So spraying myself lavishly with Caldey Island and Pixel’s Spirit of Lavender.
Glad you are going to see a professional! Hope you are feeling better soon!! And you smell great!
I hope you’ll get the right meds at the doctor that will take care of the infection!
Hope the docs patch you up pronto!
Feel better soon Oakland Fresca!
So glad you’re going to the doc! Don’t mess around with swelling body parts. ????
Oof, yes, a professional is warranted. Hope it gets better soon!
Doctor!
Ay ay!
Don’t know what made me so bossy! I am terrible about going to the doctor’s *except* when infection is involved. Then I freak out!
Me too. Infections get me to the doctor like nothing else!
Oy, glad to hear that you are seeing a doc today!
Thanks everyone for your very good advice! The doc thinks it is MRSA and I am being given a battery of antibiotics.
Ugh that sounds nasty. I hope it clears up soon and the pain goes away.
Eeek! I’m very glad you saw a doctor to, and hope you feel better soon.
Ouch! Hope the antibiotics kick in soon!
Having an accursed day so far. Tuesday is definitely Monday’s ugly sister today. It took more than an hour to commute in, only to find that my boss decided to take the day off, which means that (a) he’s missing the review prep meeting THAT I DROVE IN FOR and (b) he’s sticking me with the hostile review meeting later today WITHOUT SAID PREP MEETING. AND the program manager who is hosting the hostile meeting made a further hash of things overnight by slapping Program Y tags on Program X bugs and vice versa, and re-opening issues that were dispositioned months ago, and generally ARG ARG ARG!!!!!!
I know I keep saying this, but retirement can’t come soon enough.
At least I look good (long flowy black and white skirt, black blouse) and I smell good (Dior Grand Bal).
OH man. Best to you. All of that is effed up in about a thousand different ways.
May beauty get you through the day.
Sometimes I really can’t with people. Sorry you are having such a bad one.
Hugs to you!!!
I hope all the dust has settled by now. Ugh! That’s a weasel thing to do, leaving you to deal with the hostile meeting. You smelled and looked great, at the very least.
Memo Italian Leather today. This perfume really gives me a Dolce Vita vibe 😉
You smell great Lucas, I am a fan!
You smell fabulous!
Hmm… I’m curious as to what you mean by a “Dolce Vita vibe”?
I’m being a copy cat this morning with Osmanthus by Ormonde Jayne – lovely, easy Osmanthus scent, not sure I would pay top $$ for it (and if Fig-Tea by Nicolai didn’t have those darn calones, I would probably go for that) – but it sure is a super pretty scent!
It is super pretty. I am not sure if I will replace my bottle when it’s gone, but glad to have it.
Reading the comments I am in wonderful,Iris-y company today.SOTD Van Cleef & Arpels Bois d’Iris.Comfort and class, exactly what I needed for a day of endless meetings and copious amounts of emails.I hate admin days, when all I wanna do is help get a cataract removed from a patient and see their reaction post-op!
Happy Tuesday!
Pig in a blanket+ Tobasco= comfort food(plus a good pint of craft beer)
X
You smell super good! Bois d’Iris is one of my favorites.
You smell lovely! And pigs in a blanket are great party snacks! Who doesn’t love them?
Ugh, one of my favs!!! You smell so freaking amazing.
Last week I attempted to pour a sample of Diptyque’s Eau Rose into a larger decant of Eau Rose, but accidentally poured it into a decant of L’A Drole de Rose. So today I am wearing Eau de Drole, which starts our smelling just like Drole de Rose, then morphs into Eau Rose.
I also decided to start taking gelatin in order to preserve my youth; I read somewhere that you could stir gelatin into a cup of hot coffee and drink it. FYI this works okay – if you put coffee/milk in the coffee you will get a little solidified dairy lump with your coffee.
You smell really lovely!
Collagen peptides -for the same reason – do you just guy gelatin from the grocery store?
Based upon my research (which was internet-based and by no means exhaustive) gelatin is pretty much the same as collagen peptides. The peptides are easier to deal with because they don’t gel, but the benefits are the same. I bought some individual packets of Knox gelatin and am trying that out.
And on goes Knox to the grocery list! I’ve been buying collagen peptides off Amazon for a while and a tub is about $40
I like the collagen peptides mainly because I can mix it with ice coffee and it not clump up.
I don’t know what kind you are using, but if you buy hydrolyzed collagen, you can stir it right into hot tea with milk and it does not clump up.
With regular collagen, you soften it first in a bit of water, then add the hot liquid after a few minutes, then the milk, and it should not clump up.
Sampling Fauni from Angela Ciampagna and god does it love my skin! Sprayed it on and immediately went ah…So expensive but it’ll probably be on my buy list for a couple of years before I cave.
Oooh, I’ve never heard of this line until now!
Still sick! Sick enough that I am taking the whole day off of work. I hate hate HATE taking sick days; it feels like admitting failure. That said, now that I’m getting older, maybe it’s getting more important to take care of myself.
Things I can smell right now:
– My Palais des Thés Lapsang Souchong tea, kind of
– The enormous pink lilies from Whole Foods, which has shockingly nice and relatively cheap flowers most of the time; they’ve really become my go-to for flowers since I got back to the US last spring
– The lime blossoms out on the balcony
– The gardenia blossoms on the balcony that my mother said would never bloom; ha! (they smell incredible! no gardenia perfume comes CLOSE)
– The giant purple roses on Rosie, who is flourishing this year. This is her second year, and after our terrifying and ruthless pruning this winter, she has come back with a vengeance!
– The yellow-pink roses on Rosa, who is in her first blooming season with us. The blossoms are less strikingly golden than the photo 🙁 but she’s been great. Unfortunately, I discovered evil hordes of little green insects on her!!! Does anyone know if spraying with anti-evil-creature spray is bad while a plant is full of leaves/buds/blossoms? We sprayed her when we got her, but I guess that didn’t do quite enough.
Things I cannot smell:
– Pretty much anything else.
Therefore: No SOTD.
Boo, you’re not feeling well! It’s not a failure, AND you’re actually doing all your colleagues a favor by not passing it on, hopefully, so you can think of it as a public service ???? (if that makes you feel better about it). Green bugs, are they aphids? You have to re-spray regularly or they just keep coming back. Hasn’t killed my roses to do that. You can also keep hosing them off.
I am reminding myself of how much I hate it when someone else comes to work full of infectious sneezes! I’m just being a considerate person 🙂
Yup, they’re aphids. It’s GREAT to hear spraying your roses regularly hasn’t killed them! We can’t hose our roses down because they’re on a balcony 🙁 but thanks for the spraying advice!
Re: taking sick days – what Elisa P says, x 1,000,000.
I have no idea why most Americans are so proud of themselves for showing up to work sick. You’re also doing your colleagues’ families a favor. I’m also quite convinced that if restaurant workers were able to take paid sick days it’d be a massive boon to public health.
And yes, you’re not admitting failure, you’re taking care of yourself! No failure in that!
I think it’s partly that though they give you paid sick leave (in some jobs), you are encouraged by the employer not to use them. My husband will get his insurance completely paid for post retirement if he accrues some ridiculous number of sick days-which amounts to only using like 1 day/year. And that’s a hospital!
The hospital I work for, however, has a policy that you are asked not to come to work if you are sick, and if it’s the flu, have to wait until no fever. They dock people who come in sick and then go to employee health later because they are realizing they feel too sick to work and then want to go home.
Haha, fair point 🙂 Until now, I’ve been in school, and not going when you’re sick just means screwing your own life up a bunch, since profs don’t look kindly upon such weaknesses as illness. It’s all about culture. I will say my current boss has been wonderfully understanding about me staying home yesterday and today, so maybe it’s time for me to let go of grad school culture.
I hope you feel better soon, Koyel!
Thanks, Jiji 🙂
You could just mix some dishwashing soapy detergent with water and spray the leaves until they are drenched and then wipe away the aphids…and repeat as required. Works for basil, too. The first time you do it is a bit time consuming but it works. Use cold water.
Mix it in an empty spray bottle with a trigger …like the spray n wipe ones that contain kitchen bench spray or glass cleaner etc. it won’t drip from the balcony.
I did that last year! Actually I kind of went crazy doing that last year >.< seriously nuts. I was hoping to avoid doing that again.
Koyel, I am going to join other posters in saying “Well done!” for staying home when you are sick. It means that you are able to concentrate on getting better. ????
I was indeed! I slept a ton and watched a lot of TV, and only did a couple hours of work on my computer 🙂 A very reparative day! And I feel much better than I did this morning.
It took me forever to learn the lesson being preached here Koyel, but now I am an adamant believer in the stay home it isn’t a failure school of public health. You not only don’t infect others, but I find I get better more quickly and permanently — usually. I hope you feel better very soon!
Thanks, Amy! I already feel much better than I did ten hours ago 🙂
Feel better soon! I only hate taking sick days because I like to save my time off for fun things like vacation ha! And I wholeheartedly agree with you about how good gardenias smell irl.
Thanks, KellyC! We have unlimited sick days that cannot be used for vacations :-/ which is both good and bad. I think the older I get, and the more frequently I get sick, the happier I will be with this policy!
I am hazarding a guess that your company gives you PTO so you can use the days as either vacation or sick? My company still splits up vacation from sick from personal days. We found many employees using up their entire allotment of sick days in January. Several years ago, the company changed the policy so that half of sick days is available to use in the first 3 months and the remaining available on April 1.
OH oh, Hope you recover quickly!
Thanks, hajusuuri 🙂 I’m already much better than I was this morning! I think I’ll be back in tip-top shape by tomorrow. (I hope. DayQuil will help.)
SotD is Ormonde Woman
Had a dentist appointment this morning. A very tiny crack in one of my teeth needed to be fixed, this meant drilling off the top layer and filling it. no biggie, but hurray for the person who invented (local) anaesthetics!!!
Snap!
My lovely husband bought me a giant bottle of this for my birthday last month. It’s such a great scent.
Hope you’re twinge-free when the anaesthetic wears off!
Your husband made a great choice!
I also have a bottle and I am very happy with it. 🙂
No kidding, right? I was watching a Netflix series last night and it’s 1889 or 99 and they are just starting to use chloroform for surgery- the thought of surgery with no anesthetic is terrifying. Anyhow, don’t bite your lip!
Yeah, these are good times to be alive, also glad we have a health insurance system that makes this all quite affordable!
You smell awesome.
SOTD for me is Arquiste Anima Dulcis. The nose is identified on Fragrantica as Rodrigo Flores-Roux and Yann Vasnier. I think maybe they’re on the young side? At least, the Arquiste line is pretty recent (founded in 2012), so perhaps anything from that line can count? Anyway I am smelling calm and collected for this last day of the semester when I’m not quite too c&c due to being behind on everything for my classes after hip dislocations.
You smell wonderful! And yay for the last day of the semester!
Happy last day of term!
Nice tea set Robin! Two dogs in the blankets twitching away. Still dark outside. Kenzo jungle at the moment , so nice in autumn.
Mmmmm you smell great!
Enjoying Iris Celadon today. My kiddos were raised on pigs in a blanket! My youngest, now in college, has taught her momma a wonderful thing by making them with the addition of small slices of cheese. Gouda and Monterrey jack are my favs. Yum!!
I have to find my decant and wear this. You smell great!
Thank you!!
Hello, all. It’s all cool crisp here, and I’ve broken out the lovely 1270, so I’m lazily drinking tea and smelling the heady scent of a boozy vineyard. Love it! So does the dear man. The cats are piled in a heap between the dear man and me; Titus, I’m happy to say, is on the bottom. He’s exactly the right size and shape to form the foundation of a pile. Eric is too tiny to be squashed by the vast weight of the Stripies, and Alexander is feeling rather delicate. He’s still not eating much, but he’s brighter in himself. $1011.21 later, I am able to tell you that he has not ingested plastic, nor has he got pancreatitis. It seems he has had gastroenteritis and is still feeling proper poorly. I think the medical term is “wonky”. Seriously, although that bill was toe-curling AND eye-watering, I’m happy to know that he doesn’t need an operation to remove a foreign object.
I’m starting to feel a little more reconciled to the Europe trip. I still want to go back to the PNW, but this trip will offer much joy too. Christmas in Venice — a favourite city— will be fun. Perfume shopping in London: I will make it a mission to try Papillon Dryad.
Well, this post wasn’t much about perfume, but never mind. I’m going to relax and spend ANZAC day sewing on buttons and patching jeans and other small repairs. Oh, and scrubbing the kitchen tiles. Dull work, but I will smell heavenly while I do it. Be well, all.
Glad to hear that Alexander didn’t need surgery. But yikes! That vet bill is a whopper!
Yes, but the long tall Stripey is worth it. Full bloods, urines, MRI and something else…I didn’t look at the itemised account, just smiled a little weakly and ran my card through their machine. I feel reassured that he will get better with time. He ate some bunny this morning, and he’s beginning to relax and sleep curled up again instead of hunching miserably over his feet. The worst thing is that they shaved his tummy for the scan, and now his chocolate spots have gone. I hope they come back.
Any possible leads on what caused his gastroenteritis?
Glad that Alexander didn’t require surgery. The late great Omer the Pussy Cat, a red Persian I gave my mother for Christmas (a giant pet don’t, but she asked for him), developed the awful thing where male cats can’t pee. My mother would never admit to a soul how much she spent getting him fixed up!
Dryad is amazing! I wore it just the other day.
I love Omer’s name, and I would have done exactly what she did. Our pets return unconditional acceptance and love. And, of course, they’re fun.
Glad to hear about Dryad. I love green perfumes, and Persolaise’s review is really encouraging.
I’m glad Alexander is on the mend! We’ve spent a pretty penny on our puppygirl to get her teeth fixed, and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Good on you for taking such good care of Alexander and I’m sure his spots will come back.
I barely register perfumers’ names and gender (if it’s not obvious from the name), it’s too much for me to think about their age.
Jo Malone Mimosa & Cardamom for me today: I like it almost in any weather but it seems perfect for the sunny spring day.
I bought a small bottle of Mimosa & Cardamom for sunny spring days. Thanks for the reminder – just sprayed!
You smell mmmmgood!
Watching clouds roll in this afternoon. Rain is on the way, which should make my allergies happy.
SOTD = Byredo Pulp, from the sample stash. No idea who the perfumer is for this. I’m liking Pulp quite a bit… no rotten fruit for me, thankfully. I get a gigantic passionfruit note, a bit of black currant, some cardamom, and a whisper of pine needles.
Sounds like something I need to try out! I love passionfruit…and black currant…and pine needles. 😉
This one is apparently crazy-dependent on body chemistry! YMMV for sure!
It definitely smells much better on you than on me. It was a chemical mess.
Ick. That doesn’t sound good at all.
It’s a public holiday here, so I’m lingering over breakfast as I contemplate the day. No perfume yet, I’m just lazily running through possiblities.
Best kind of day!
I really like the Tango sample you gave me. It’s lovely .
Hope everyone is having a good day. I love those teapots and cups etc. Very minimalist. I am in Comme des Garçon Series 7 Sweet: Sticky Cake from a NSTer who sent me a sample. It’s mainly cereal with a bit of iris to me- which is not a bad thing, mind you! I don’t love it but have enjoyed it today. My fiance said, “mmmm you smell good,” when we hugged goodbye this AM, so that’s always nice to hear!
I really like Sticky Cake. Can’t quite describe it myself, but it doesn’t smell edible to me, which is probably why I like it. You do smell great! I’m thinking that might be my into Fall purchase this year…
Hmmm. Intriguing. I’ve not even considered this one because I assumed it was just an edible sweetie, which doesn’t interest me. But your comment about it not smelling edible has me very curious.
I don’t like sweets or gourmands much and this one seemed much more abstract to me and not super sweet. Can’t think of anything to compare it to, though.
Maybe you can buy it and use it as linen or room spray?
Too late for anyone to be reading, but I am wearing II (Deux) very happily and enjoying one of our first days of spring. The scent fits the day.
Too late? Says who? I wore that last night layered with Revolution and got a compliment! You smell lovely.
Not too late for us Aussies! Only 8:30am here and you smell lovely! 🙂
I usually leave my comments way later!
It’s not even lunch time…keep on posting! Deux keep on posting haha.
Not at all too late! I usually comment between 5 pm and 6 pm.
Wow, late check in today. I was in the remains of the Elephants & Roses sample yesterday in hopes it might be better. I was testing it on the same arm as Coddington, so I thought it might just be musty in comparison. Nope, it’s just musty on me. ????
I started out this morning in Santal Massoia, which faded pretty quickly, then went to Bombay Bling this afternoon. Wow! That one is a party! Not sure I even need more than the sample, but I’m glad I tried it. It’s a very happy perfume. I ordered a Neela sampler from Olfactif, so I have more to try. ????
Bombay Bling is such a joyous riot of a fragrance! You smell gorgeous!
Thanks, Lillibet! It’s a fun one.
SotD = Oeillet Sauvage
Also worn last night and will likely be worn again this evening. Oeillet Sauvage feels happy. 😀
I could never eat pigs in a blanket, not even when I was a kid. I go veggie most of the time now, so I guess I’ll never know why they have their own day!
As near as I can tell, anybody who wants anything to have its own day can make that happen. There is no bar too low 😉
SOTD = Guerlain Baiser de Russie
I am wearing it because Deva mentioned it yesterday and it is a wonderful perfume. It’s a sweetish vanilla tonka.
Hypothetical situation – to encourage call center employees to complete a survey or to allow them self-paced time (up to a certain maximum duration), managers were empowered to provide paid time for the employees to do it on premises. Let’s say the manager allotted 30 minutes to the employees to take self-paced training. If the person is done in 20 minutes, should the employee go back to work for the remaining 10 minutes or is the 10 minutes for the employee to use for other pursuits (like reading this blog)? I am not looking for the labor law answer but rather what you would tell the employee?
I just had to take a survey at work, it was estimated that it would take 15 minutes. It took me longer, because I had a lot to say. The other associates just went back to work, but there was some hanging around talking about the survey for a few minutes.
I just took a survey too but just saved it so I can think about how to answer the open-ended questions.
If the company was a place I would want to work for, they would allow the employee some discretion if they finished the survey early. Some folks would probably go right back to work, while others might use the time for personal pursuits. Just my $0.02 worth.
I would allow the employee discretion except leaving the premises.
I should have also specified “discretion within reason”. It’s a bummer that you have to think about potential bad apples.
In retail, an employee taking five minutes to do as they please costs less than 1 cent.
i would take 2 minutes to do the survey because most surveys are pointless and a waste of time. I would then spend 28 minutes scanning the situations vacant for a more interesting job. Hypothetically speaking.
We couldn’t require employees to take the survey but only encourage them to do so.
If the company has allotted 30 minutes for everyone to complete it, and someone finishes in 20, why shouldn’t they be permitted to do as they like (within reason) for the remainder of the time? Otherwise, the company is, in a way, rewarding the slower respondents and penalizing the quicker ones.
Long-long time ago, in another life, we had to pass exams to be accepted to the university. Students-to-be with the highest school GPA-equivalent had to pass 1 additional exam, and if they were to confirm their proficiency with the highest grade, it was enough to be accepted. Otherwise they had to go through all 3 or 4 exams with everybody else, and then be selected (or not) based on the total score (when the number of admissions was lower than the number of applicants).
I was the one who had to do just 1 exam. I passed it, got admitted – and then I and several more students with the same situation had to come to the university every day for a couple of weeks and do some cleaning work after the remodeling while the rest of the applicants were studying at home for the upcoming exams. I remember that it felt wrong: as if I was punished for being a better student. Of course, the management who needed free cleaners looked at it differently: I had to “pay” for not worrying any more whether I’d pass.
For waged employees with meaningful work (not a call-center agents!) I would say that it’s their choice whether to return to work immediately or not.
For hourly employees with repetitive numbing work I would do a free time (on premises), maybe even encouraging them to relax/get a cup of tea/discuss the survey with others/browse Internet/etc.
Reasoning: If it’s a one-time thing, the company won’t go bankrupt if employees relax for extra 10 minutes. If it’s a periodic thing, the surveys are well designed, and it’s important to company to get good/true feedback, they need to cultivate good will towards that activity in employees: they might be inclined to do it better/put more thought into it the next time. If it’s not important or poorly designed, the company should stop wasting its and people’s time.
If it’s organized well, people who would still abuse that “self-paced” privilege to save extra 10 minutes for doing nothing and not provide the expected input despite of company/their manager trying to do the right thing by them, are probably not good at what they are doing beyond this task, so it doesn’t really matter what they do, and they shouldn’t be a part of consideration – unless the complete workforce is like that, but then why would anyone need their opinion from the survey?
ANZAC day holiday here too. Wearing the fragrant remains of Bogue MEM from last night and drinking coffee in bed. There’s a small tuxedo cat sprawled on my lap and I am catching up on this blog and trying to decide what to wear for the rest of today…
Late again with my SOTE. Kind of a busy day so I grabbed my sample of Le Labo Iris 39 that was sitting on the dresser. It’s been in my stash for about a year so it is time to use it up!
Two small dabs, and it was strong but has calmed down a bit now. I have the oil so I may have to refresh at bedtime with both to compare.
Every time I wear Iris 39 I feel amazed how much I like it. And then I forget about it until the next time.
I was testing a sample of that the other night and I found it very similar to cuir de Lancôme which I LOOOVE. I’m currently rly lusting after a bottle of the noir 29
I might need the perfume, me thinks, even though I have many other Iris loves already.
I’m in Van Cleef and Arpels Midnight patchouli for a cold rainy day in Denver.
