PSA: there are still lots of goodies to be had at episode 9 of the splitmeet! And it's open until Saturday, so it's not too late to start a new split.
Meanwhile, happy World Day of Social Justice. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Keiko Mecheri Osmanthus. Tea at the moment is Hong Cha Mao Feng from Upton.
Reminder: 2/23 will be Library Friday...honor National Library Month with any sort of fragrance association you can think of.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Silence Please Mug is £12: "Kettle on, feet up, a good book. Bliss! This fine Bone china mug is made exclusively for the Bodleian Library Shop, University of Oxford." (And the proceeds help fund the library!)
Commando today since I there is no point if you can’t smell anything..Dear Nose, its time to clear up!
I caught the Canadian figure skaters last night and they deserved the Gold. What a pair! Their routine brought tears to my eyes and you can see they were hungry for the win..
Tea is Pleine Lune
Hope the nose clears up soon. ????
Weren’t they wonderful? Their routine was beautifully done.
And I must say, I’m strangely transfixed by the curling competition!
Me too on the curling! I have always just thought it was crazy but this year I looked up the rules/scoring etc and now I am completely hooked!
They are so intense and focused when they are playing!
I looked it up just for giggles, and there’s actually a curling organization here in town, in Houston. It just seems so incongruous to have a presence in a southern city.
I caught the American & Chinese women’s curling yesterday while at the gym, and burst out laughing while on the treadmill because I realized I’d never seen curling before and it was just such a bewildering sport. The people around me stared at me as I tried to clamp my mouth shut! Super awkward and also kind of dangerous (laughing and running at the same time is difficult for me!), but great fun.
It isn’t like anything I’ve ever seen, either. It strikes me as kind of like a cross between shooting pool and playing golf. On ice.
Hope you feel better soon! Very happy for another Canadian gold medal, they were great.
My better half was so happy for his mother country last night..when the bobsledding team tied for Gold I looked over and saw his eyes wet with tears…
The Canadians deserved the win, but I was rooting for the French team. It was so sad what happened to her in their short program and she handled it with such grace.
I always assumed their costumes were secured like Fort Knox to handle the rigors of skating. Apparently I was wrong. ????
Me too!
I enjoyed the curling too!
The bobsled teams are amazing..their arms are bigger than my legs! Massive muscles
I thought they were soooo beautiful! Hope you feel better soon.
Wearing 7 % Solution by En Voyage in honour of National Library Month. Sherlock would be proud.
I completely forgot about the Splitmeet – off to see if there is anything left 🙂
Brilliant interpretation! 😀
Wearing Hermessence Osmanthe Yunnan.
Connection to the library theme? Ellena compared the whole Hermessence line to haikus. 🙂
Good thinking!
Also, librarians are famous tea drinkers. Well done!
Ooh, I think that’s my favorite Hermessence! I have a lot of fondness for Vetiver Tonka, as well, but the combination of tea and osmanthus in OY is gorgeous.
Dragging this morning. I don’t bounce back from insomnia the way I used to. SOTD = Ombre Mercure
Oh, not fun 🙁
I hope you sleep better tonight
Thank you — me too!!!
You smell lovely! My sympathies, I am a chronic insomniac.
Ditto. Mine comes and goes, at least!
Insomina is a curse, I am thankful every day that I don’t suffer from it and sympathise with those who do!
Sleep well tonight!
Fingers crossed that you have a good night tonight! ????
SOTD Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia for an early am meeting. Works nicely in the humidity and it’s warm out already. I’m overdressed but rather too warm than too cold.
Library connection: this is the scent equivalent of whispering in the library.
Body chemistry is so funny – this one SCREAMS on my skin.
Both freesia and linden notes turn into monsters on me – my body seems to have an aversion to delicate flowers.
I suspect it’s because my skin is on the oilier side so scents don’t diffuse as rapidly.
My take on it is . . . really pretty, easy to wear but just a hair too sweet. I have a 30ml bottle and I wanna say I layer it with the Grapefruit.
And I like it precisely because I don’t find it sweet at all (at least by not having any vanilla, amber, or honey in it). Go figure! I have a very low sweet tolerance these days.
Wearing Bottega Veneta Eau Legere and ready to face a busy day with warm temperatures. Coffee and more coffee and waiting anxiously to spend lunchtime outside to enjoy the weather.
Happy Tuesday NST!
How does this version compare to original BV? And yay for finally wanting to be outside! It’s pouring rain here all day.
Eau Legere is a lighter version of the original. Less leathery and more flowery with the wood note more pronounced. I find it sparkling and more cheerful.
Oh that sounds lovely for spring like weather.!
It is! Hope your rainy day turns into a sunny one soon!
Enjoy your warm temperatures!! ????
Thank you! We will have a 2 day break. In my particular case I love it! ????. Hope your weather improves soon.
Forgot perfume this morning, so Balmain Ivoire from my desk stash. Very excited for my splitmeet goodies to arrive, and thanks to everyone who hosted a split!
I need that mug! For HOME!! 🙂
Going back to Iris Month with a dab vial of L’Heure Bleue which I’ve had rattling around and never ever sampled.
The splitmeet was FUN! Robin, thanks for offering it, and all my split partners in both directions, I’m so excited!!! Debating what to do on the Baccarat Rouge 540…. do I splurge on the 200 ml vat even though I’ll only be sending away less than half of it to my splitters? It’s such an investment (ugh) but the per ml pricing is SO much better. Maybe people would be interested in the Baccarat for swapping next month? (Hint: This is an invitation to enablers!!! And also to more rational types who want to walk me off the edge! Please help me decide!)
I personally would go for the bigger bottle if you love it. Prices will only go up and reformulations happen.
They used to make a Silence Please tea for one, I’d love to have that:

Splitmeets are the BEST, and lots of NSTers were seriously READY to do some shopping this time around!
I’m really hoping we can do one in June this year for summer perfumes! ^^^ *hint hint* ^^^
Argh, but then your decants are traveling all over the world, boiling away in the back of mail trucks!
Mid or late May, then?
It’s a possibility, let me think about it!
I’m wearing Infusion d’Iris edp Absolue this morning, for only the second time. it is definitely earthier and less spring-like than the scent I wore yesterday. I may prefer the original Infusion d’Iris. I’ll have to do a side by side test.
Hey twin!
I love the Absolue. You smell wonderful!
I may actually like the absolute better than the original. You smell great!
*absolue*
Trying out Diptyque’s Eau Rose for the first time. Not bad, but smells like it should be a bath oil or something.
I liked that one a lot, and have a rollerball of it. However, I do know what you mean by bath oil!
It’s actually a lot of fun – it was a good choice for a gray day!
I am wearing Tauer L’Eau today.
Have a good Tuesday everyone!
You smell great Barqs!
First: that mug is everything and a bag of chips.
Second: no one in my tribe of doctors seem to be in a hurry to write orders. I want an MRI, people. ????
Third: I’m trying Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant one last time. Connection to the library – you learn things in the library, right? So I blind bought Jungle based on the notes list, which sings to me as a list of all the things I love. But this is No Worky on my skin, although it’s a bit better today than it has been in the past. I have learned that note lists can be quite deceptive. Schooled by the Elephant, indeed. ????
oh no!
Money saved!
Love the mug too…just needs a rock to come with it, so I can crawl under it….;)
hmmmm, I do hope you are OK Nancyleandros! I do certainly like getting needed medical data too, don’t know what you are going through, but hoping all the rights doors will open.
I tried Elephant for the first time over the summer and it didn’t work, but it works great for me in cold weather. And that Elephant on top! I’m sure you will be able to swap it for something you like better.
Well, in short, I need an MRI on my shoulder to see if I have a rotator cuff tear. I broke it last October, and physical therapy has helped, but I don’t have the range of motion or strength I should at this point. So, MRI and possibly surgical repair is in my future. ????
I truly hope you get the proper medical attention you need.
I had a dislocated shoulder (4 times). Finally after the 4th time, I was able to get the surgery and had resulting physio for 1 year. I don’t have complete 100% range of motion on my left shoulder but it made all the difference in the world to me.
Wishing you the best of luck!
I’m sorry, thank you for asking, Coin-op!
The last and final time I wore Jungle l’Elephant, my husband had to remove himself from the room. I kind of liked it, though 😉
Final time? It sounds like you’ve given up on it also!
Yep, my bottle is sadly splitmeet bound.
I actually like it but in small doses!
It’s a one or two spritzer, max! ????
I like Jungle Elephant, but have only tried it from a dabber. I haven’t sprayed it yet. Wonder if it is one of those scents that change depending on the application method?
Has anyone tried the new Jo Malone LEs? I am curious about the Honey & Crocus one as a blogger mentioned it smells like the very best marzipan ever.
Actually, I am curious about all of them so if anyone has tried them please do chime in 🙂
I have smelled them all.
Primrose & Rye- it reminds me of the now discontinued Vanilla & Anise
Green Wheat & Meadowsweet-opens as a green scent, grassy, then dries down sweet.
Oat & Cornflower- a gourmand, I get hazelnut and vetiver
Poppy & Barley-very office friendly and in the vein of Peony and Blush Suede for me.
Honey & Crocus-delicious gourmand, almondy-sweet. I get more almond than honey, which for me is a good thing.
Doesn’t sound like I need to rush out and test them myself. Nothing is grabbing my attention.
Oh! Ooh! Honey & Crocus is going straight to my wish list! Thanks, Elizabeth!
Elizabeth!!! many thanks for the mini reviews! I am going to have to sample the Honey and Crocus as you are now the second perfumista to compare it to almond/marzipan note and I am on a quest for the perfect cherry almond scent.
*perks up* somebody said marzipan?
thanks Elisa! that must be the one I was reading about smelling of marzipan. If can get into the city one of these days I will give it a sniff. The Meadowsweet and Wheat I was also looking at…good to know it veered into chemical so I can cross that one off my list.
OOps! that comment was for Elisa…
but I am with you mals…I perk up as well when I read marzipan 🙂
I will say I loved the ceramic bottles.
Yeah I thought they looked nice too
I have tried them mostly on strips. There was definitely one that smelled like marzipan. I only committed one to skin-the green wheat and something or other. I liked the top notes but the middle exploded into something too sweet and chemically for me.
Springish today in AG Grand Amour.
Hurrah The Bod!
Day off today, and haven’t got to moving yet. My daughter has taken to wearing perfume to school, and today she chose Bvgari Au the’ Blue. Not something I would have picked for her, but I let her choose. I have a small spritz on myself. Connection is daughter, school, library.
I just bought a mini of the’ Blue! Saving it for hot weather.
My four year old’s favorite from my collection is Penhaligon’s Night-Scented Stock, but I am trying to steer her towards something that is not discontinued . . .
Uh oh, maybe time to hide it!
LOL — yes, that is too young to head down that road!
Good morning all and thanks for kind notes of support yesterday. Today I’m trying out Byredo Blanche, which I received in a nice little batch of samples from Twisted Lily along with my prized new bottle of MFK Grand Soir. This one is pretty and nice, rather simple and, as reviewers all say, “clean.” I’m surprised it has so many negative reviews on Fragrantica. To me it’s definitely floral and I do pick up the peony smell. So it’s not bland or just a laundry musk smell at all. We have warm weather forecast and it’s humid today, with rain predicted.
P.S. On the Library topic: My mom was a librarian, and for awhile they had a library cat, a gray kitty who just showed up there. They had a contest to name it and the name that won was “Whisper”, because that’s what the librarians would constantly tell the school kids who were there for various projects. Whisper lived there several years before someone, inevitably, complained about allergies, and then the head librarian took her home to live with her.
Our tiny local library has a resident cat.
Lucky!
I wish we could have a cat at our library. Yeah, yeah, I know why we can’t… but I still want one! Someone offered to donate a bearded dragon to us last week, but we declined. No one on staff was especially jazzed about taking care of it. Maybe we’ll get some more gerbils.
A gray library kitty named Whisper sounds about perfect!!
wow that is lovely! I can see when people have allergies but a cat on the lap amongst books sounds really relaxing. I am sure you can come up with a lovely pick for Friday’s community project with that in mind
I have a really lovelyly Do TERRA scented oil called Whisper. I don’t know what the notes are but it’s almost like a creamy lemon curd with lavender flowers on top. I love it.
I’m enjoying the Do Terra Forgive oil: spruce, bergamot, juniper berry, lemon, myrrh, thuja wood, nootka tree, thyme and citronella. Very relaxing.
I like the idea of a library cat. Glad she at least found a home, though.
There is a cute picture book called The Library Lion . The lion is allowed to come for story hour as long as it doesn’t run or roar. When the librarian falls and hurts herself, he has to run and roar at the head librarian so he will listen. When he does that, he thinks he must leave and not return, but eventually the librarian tells him that sometimes there are very good reasons to break rules. Let’s hear it for breaking rules! Oh, and libraries are often not silent any longer either – I tell the students they just need to maintain a “library buzz”.
Oh, I love that message! Just ordered that book from amazon for my granddaughter. Thanks for the recommendation!
Day 20 of iris month: Sienne l’Hiver, as winter has finally arrived in San Diego this year. Quite nippy outside this morning with the dogs.
Enjoy your week of winter 😉
I haven’t come up with any library associations yet…. but today I chose SSS Forest Walk. I should have chosen something more spring-like and bright – it’s very warm today.
Forest – wood – paper – library!☺
It’s rather surprisingly warm here. (I don’t LIKE IT. February should feel like February! So that we really appreciate March, of course.)
Retesting NV Rahele, which should have been great and wasn’t, but I thought I’d give it another shot to be wearable.
But no.
Sigh. BD’s murky vasewater accord strikes again. To heck with this, I’m gonna scrub it and put on some Le Temps d’une Fete.
I had more or less the same experience with Rahele. Le Temps d’une Fete can’t ever be wrong!
It’s like that here, too! I had to pull out my spring favorite, Chanel 19 Poudre because it’s not feeling like February at all. The rain has washed all the snow away! ????
Yeah, but March can sometimes feel like February, and there’s a higher chance for “wintery mix”.
The weather is turning cold here for the first time this winter, but fortunately no snow, just clear blue cold skies.
I am wearing AG Ce Soir ou Jamais, I have really fallen for this one. I have an older EdT I found secondhand, any thoughts on the older or current EdP? And I don’t really care for the new bottles either…
It’s spring like here in Cleveland and I spent most of the morning in Mitsouko. Now since I have showered, I’m looking at either Courtesan or no 19 edt. Kyoto is in the running too.
I know! This weather! Woo hoo!
It’s fabulous! Hope you both can get outside and enjoy it.
Enjoy and let us know which you picked
Hi Dawn,
I have a bottle of Turn on the Northern Lights that I bought and realized just isn’t me. Never even used it past brushing it on a thumbnail. I would be happy to send it to you or swap for something. If you are interested, email me at brenda dawt moyes at yahoo dawt calm.
And which did you choose, Dawn?
Scent of the day is Russian Leather, by Memo Paris. From a sample.
Its nice, but first few minutes were borderline cleaning product and after that it turns into a generic herbal-woody scent without depth.
My first reaction was “this is probably in the 50-70 euro range”. I
looked up the price and its 200 euro for 75 ml haha ????
The bottle looks nice though
“Borderline cleaning product,” heh.
(I have noticed that linden notes smell like powdered toilet cleanser to me, totally unlike the real honeyed-floral thing. It’s just a real shock to expect pretty flowers and get Comet.)
I associate a certain kind of lavender with bathroom refreshners. Yuck.
And citrus and eucalyptus are used A LOT in cleaning products here in The Netherlands. In some perfumes those notes remind me of doing the dishes and cleaning windows, so elegant…hahaha. ????
I have a few of the Memo scents but the only one I really love is Shams Oud. Lots of them just smell odd and they’re very ambitiously priced.
Oh, I love Italian Leather.
“Ambitiously Priced.” Priceless ????
Ambitiously priced… Haha ????
Now if only they had put a little bit more of that ambition in this fragrance. ????
When I was in Paris last year I passed a huge Memo counter in the Galeries Lafayette.
The whole line up was pretty big, so many bottles, and the SAs seemed very erhm ‘too eager’. So I just skipped the whole thing after a quick look at their impressive decorations.
“Ambitious” pricing (I love this term, btw 😀 ) perhaps due to the bottles? They look gorgeous in photos, though I’ve not seen one in person.
Most of them are nothing special, really.
I like the bottles in person. They’re nice and weighty. None of the scents that I tried really worked for me, though. At least not enough to own.
Hello, all. I’m wide awake at 4.30, and have been for more than two hours. Sigh. However (brightening up) I was determined to leave my “can’t even” funk behind, so last night, I sprayed myself with a little Musc Intense by Patricia de Nicolaï. I tend to forget I own it, because it’s in a coffret with a couple of others I bought in Paris a while back. I fully expected to have a horrified “What did I just do?” reaction, but actually, no. It’s nice. It was slightly green and slightly sweet going on, perhaps like the smell of a very high quality green lolly. In fact, I vaguely remember a thin oblong “lime”-flavoured sweet from my childhood that tasted the way this smells, if that makes any sense. It’s pretty in the top notes and perfectly acceptable in the heart. I’m glad I tried it. It’s a different sort of smell for me. Simple. Easy. Clean— not always a bad thing.
I came home last night and began to take the clean washing off the drying rack, and couldn’t understand why the sheets had subsided into three deep hollows between the top rungs. Of course, the “three” was the clue, and also that two were deep and one much less so, clear evidence of the activities of two heavy Stripies and little Eric Redfeather. The cats had made themselves wallows in the damp washing. I’m really quite impressed by their ingenuity: it’s terribly hot all the time, and I think they were very clever to find cool, comfortable hammocks. I should probably be horrified for the sake of my laundry, but really, it’s too hot to bother.
Well, it’s now five-ish. I could improve the shining day by showering and getting to work, I suppose. I might just wear Musc Intense and see what I think of it in the light. Be well, NST.
Clever kitties! 😆
Kitties are so very creative.
Hahaha! I love the image of kitties in hammocks. Mine love to lounge on my wet sweaters when I lay them out to dry. Whhyyy?
Kitty hammocks!! ????????????
I happen to have a sample of PdN Musc Intense sitting on my desk. Have to agree, there is a candy sweetness there, something I usually avoid, but in this particular configuration I find it pleasing.
Also quite pleasing is the mental image of kitties in hammocks. 😀
Cat hammocks! That’s so clever. I wonder if you’ll ever catch them in action?
I love that mug!
It was a super foggy morning today, so I wore Hiris. I hadn’t realized that some perfume from my sample of Dzongka had transferred to my hands when I opened it to sniff before deciding, so I spent the morning in the most lovely Dzongka/Hiris cloud. Wowee.
Happy day everyone! I’m a little disheartened by all the things that need official days when they should just be everyday – kindness? Social justice? However, I am always excited about days celebrating the good things in life like libraries and food.
I’m going to have to get my hands on some Dzongha. Based on talk here and reading reviews, I think it’s something I’d love. I’m not one for bling buying though so I need to order a sample! I
Good morning everyone! Long time lurker, first time commenter on the scent of the day. Feeling springy in a sample of Byredo Flowerhead. I put myself on a 2018 no-buy (except for Chanel 22 in any form), but this scent is making me rethink that!
And as is custom, tea of the day is Tea Forte black currant.
Welcome!
Welcome!
You smell beautiful! Flowerhead is so festive and fun.
Hello there!
Welcome to the NST community! waving hello
Welcome!
Welcome chibibrooklyn! You smell pretty.
Welcome!
Welcome!!
Welcome!
Hello, perfume house twin and welcome!
Hello, perfume house twin and welcome!
Encre Noir today for the “library” association. I have a bottle but usually neglect it in favor of something sweeter, so it’s nice to have an excuse to let it out to stretch its legs.
You smell great.
Encre Noire is on my list of “library” scents, too.
House twins….or rather sister and brother…Encre Noir Pour Elle is my SOTD…..
I’ve never actually tried the pour elle – I should get on that!
Some say it is a blander version of the male but I think it makes a great office scent.
Diorissimo for an almost-spring day!
Bellisimo!
Fantastic!
I miss spring, you smell gorgeous
Glorious!
Alvarez Gomez Agua de Colonia Concentrada for this unseasonably warm day. It matches the cup of lemon tea I just finished.
Very nice! :^)
VQ ‘18 continues with Maison Vanille…trying out the Mexique and the Tropiques today.
The Mexique is quite nice.
Th Tropiques smells like sweet banana bubblegum laced with vanilla.
I have a bottle of the Mexique – one of my first non-department store perfumes (they used to carry them in Anthropologie). I never tried the Tropiques and now I know I am not missing anything as that description definitely does not sound tempting. Money saved – thanks!
Narciso edp on this warm and extremely rainy day. All the rain we’ve had the past two days has melted all the snow. Lots of huge puddles (and flooding????)
We are under a flood warning until Thursday! Stay dry, you smell great!
We’ll be getting a lot of rain starting today, so I understand the anxiety. Take care and stay safe!
Hope that all the folks who are in the middle of the wet can stay dry! ☂
I’m in Masque L’Attesa, a gorgeous multi-faceted iris that I want to have one day.
You smell smell wonderful. I am about to need my second bottle of this one. A rare perfume I wish came in bigger sizes.
It’s quite expensive for a 35 ml bottle. And I actually don’t like their bottle design.
Expensive yes, especially for 30ml. But I like the bottle design, even though I can see hating it. But I like it’s oddity, it feels good in the hand, and it has a great sprayer!
The bottle is fine, I don’t like the cap though
You smell great!
I’m wearing the infamous unidentifiable “melange of scent” on my flannel shirt today, which smells divine!
The split meet got my attention this time and I’m SO excited to try all my little surprises. I’ve branched our into the land of flowers (gasp!), making my oriental loving heart proud!
It’s snowing. Kind of. We’re not getting the big fat fluffy flakes (say that 3 times fast!), they’re more like grains of salt: Small, granular, and ugly. Oh well. I’ll try to skid my way over to the post office to pick up my bottle of Chypre Mousse. It’s been waiting a week for me, but I had no time off when the post office was open. Pretty certain I will be wearing that later.
Now to read comments…✌????
As a former floral hater, I say there’s hope. And there’s always the floriental for compromise. Enjoy your Chypre Mousse! That’s a wonderful oddball.
It’s a polarizing scent, I guess. Thanks for the floral encouragement! When I tried BF Au Dela Narcisse, I thought “Now wait a minute! This is floral, and I love it…what else could I be missing…?!” Quite a revelatory moment! ????
Brrr chilly here today. Was awakened early by a critter in the walls, grrrrrrrrrr. I know they want to be warm too, but Nature is supposed to Stay Outside. And this one sounds too big to be a mouse. Not going to be fun evicting it.
SOTD is Tom Ford Oud Wood. Oh how I love this scent.
If you ever want more Oud Wood, ping me! I have a gallon I’ll never get through.
Ha! So do I.
Hmm, swapmeet candidates??
I’m exploring leather and iris pairings for 2-3 days and tied it to the library theme with the image of a weathered old leather chair that is a staple of the library in a mansion. First up is Cuir de Nacre, a beauty that is quite short lived on me. I already went to the bathroom and resprayed a little here at work. I’m wearing a pair of the jeans I bought yesterday as well as both of my new shirts – black long sleeved tee and light grey drapey open cardigan. Accessorizing with one of my recent favorite jewelry finds – a necklace with a silver ouija planchette (pointer) pendant.
Iris and leather is a very appealing idea to me.
Oh me too!
Ooh! Want that necklace!
Tea (even though I much prefer coffee, but I’m out) is Hunan Black Mao Feng from Upton. SOTD is Le 3eme Homme, because it was a novel by Graham Greene and believe me that is as close to this theme as I could possibly get.
We are tea cousins?
And hey, good thinking — you nailed the theme.
My husband is out of town for a conference for a few days – he gets migraines from scent, so I generally wear very light stuff and only at work. I have been having fun wearing some heavy hitters (at least to me) and luckily, the weather has been cooperating and cooling down a bit here in San Diego. So today it is Angel La Part des Anges from a tiny sample I got in a swap long ago. Think it is similar to the Angel Liquer de Parfum. Whatever it is, it is so sexy and smooth. I will be sniffing my wrist all day. The only Angel I can wear.
Angel liquor is really sexy.
We’re on the tail of Cyclone Gita and man is it wet. The rain seems to be dolloping down. I have been craving spring floral scents for some reason and loved going through some of Robin’s spring floral lists yesterday. The autumn are in full bloom here, and also lots of water lilies and irises in the bamboo pond area of the botanics. So, my very disciplined continuation of Hermes week will honour the pond…either of the water lily variety or the big pond that has formed in my laundry and garage . Monsieur Li for me! What a great day! Falling rain, fresh air, happy trees and lakes…go nature!
Oh, and pair it with the short novel Monsieur Linh by Philippe Claudel . Beautiful and spare .
What a lovely way of getting to Monsieur Li!
Good morning,
it’s a chilly day here in NorCal so it seemed fit to try on a scent called Gingembre by Yoshi from the Freebiemeet (thanks Erica!!). It’s a bit too heady, grande dame for me – I don’t think I can pull this one off. The library connection – maybe this is what the slightly intimidating boss of the library would wear to a staff meeting to make sure everyone knows their place.
I think I am going to order a whole bunch of Parfums de Nicolai samples today – my split meet doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, and that’s ok, since I am taking a bit of gamble on the scents anyway.
If anyone feels like sharing their favorite Parfums de Nicolai with me, feel free 🙂
My favorites:
LeTemps d’une Fete
Week End a Deauville
Sacrebleu
Juste un Reve
Rose Oud
Your first 3 are my 3 favorites (and in that order, even!) 😀
Great minds think alike! 😉
Wearing Vilhelm’s Basilico Fellini — to do with the dvd library, perhaps? It’s very figgy, arguably more so than his Purple Fig. I have to compare more carefully.
Go I meant.
I am wearing Opium Fleur d’Shanghai courtesy of the very generous ElisaP. This is a beauty.! Thank you so much!
My pleasure and glad you’re liking it!????
It has a beautiful spice note and the base is a nice sheer green. BTW, I think the name of this perfume would make a great title for a romance novel. ????
My SOTD is Regime des Fleurs Bel Epoque. I am in my last 3 weeks of librarian-ship before I retire and I have to say that these decades have been a bel epoque in my life. (The scent is kinda boring though.)
Hurray! and congratulations on the coming end of your library bel epoque.
Congrats! Sounds bittersweet.
How exciting! New adventures await you!
Wow! Early congratulations ScentSpirit! I hope you find retirement a bel epoch as well 🙂
Best of luck with your upcoming retirement!
Congratulations on your retirement!
Congratulations! Enjoy your upcoming retirement!
In Chanel No. 19 Poudre… thought I was just going to spray a spritz in the air for a happy, powdery flash. It smelled so good I decided to wear it as my SOTM!
I recall some clever person comparing their perfume collection to a library, so I figure whatever perfume I wear fits the theme – of course, this might be lazy thinking on my part 🙂
I’m wearing Harem Rose, from the Fort and Manle discovery set that finally arrived. It’s beautiful so far, a warm and rich rose, with none of the sourness I sometimes get in roses.
I really enjoyed Harem Rose too.
SOTD: A little Mississippi Medicine for a humid summer day. Like walking in a cool forest fully of cool savory almost medicinal notes.
Ooh Mr 7 doesn’t often comment on my perfume but as I hugged him goodbye just now he gushed “I loooove that perfume!”. Feeling pretty pleased lol.
Sweet! Isn’t that always nice? My husband never uses the word love with regards to perfume. Bit the other day he said what I was wearing wasn’t bad (which is high praise) without me asking if I smelled good. And it was no 5!! The ultimate in perfuminess.
That’s hilarious. No. 5 is also one of the few perfumes my husband expresses approval of when he sniffs it on me. Perhaps it is what they were brought up to think of as ‘proper perfume’?
That’s an interesting point. Always think he’d appreciate the unproper perfumes more. Also, it does just smell good!
Late to the party today thanks to a bad start shoveling snow and not getting to work on time. We need the precipitation here badly, yet I can’t help but yearn for Spring to get here already. Ummagumma is hitting the spot on this Tuesday-that’s-basically-a-Monday.
Tuesday always feels like “late Monday” to me….
Ummagumma is da bomb! You smell great????????
Happy to hear that Denver got some much needed moisture. I’ve talked to family out there who have been a little nervous about the lack of snow, etc.
I’m in Rania J Cuir Andalou which I really love. I’m convinced I like anything “Cuir” lol. But it fits the theme today because to me it smells like an old library that someone has been smoking in….
Weather has been quite warm here in NM overall but we got a bit of sleet and snow last night. Was very pretty when I woke up this morning.
Ambre Loup is my favorite from this line. Have you tried it?
I have not! This is the first time I’ve sniffed from that line.
SOTD has been Boucheron “Jaipur Homme”.
Top: lime, bergamot, cardamom and lemon;
Mid: carnation, cinnamon, jasmine and rose;
Base: tonka, patchouli, benzoin and cedar.
Spicy washing-up liquid.
ha! I’ve not smelled Jaipur Homme, but now I want to. 😀
I had the opposite reaction… anything that mentions soap, detergent, or washing up liquid is usually a big “Nope” for me.
SotD = PdN Musc Intense
As I opened this dab sample it made a little splash all over my fingers. A happy accident as I do like it, though I usually avoid anything named musk. I would have missed out if I had “judged this book by it’s cover.” (See what I did there?)
My hands smell very nice at the moment, and I thank waterdragon for mentioning Musc Intense today.
A sample of Iris Silver Mist is up next today for the month of irises.
Very clever!
????????
SOTD… Hacivat by Nishane Istanbul.
Sticking with Nishane as I continue my studies at work. It’s cold here, business is slow. I continue my research, not in a library, but on the sales floor of fancy shop in SF.
Hacivat is a nice scent…pineapple, cedar, and oakmoss. On me however, it dried very sweet. On the store manager (a man), it dried into something tending toward “masculine” on the M-F scent scale…. not at all sweet. Hmmm? Amazing how one scent can vary!….
Or is the research question how we “perceive” scent on men and women? What role does gender play in perfume?
BTW, is there really a Marvel Superhero series on Netflix coming out about people who can control the world through scent? HAHA! If it starts raining Clinque Happy, duck for cover!! HAHA!
Late today! Been distracted by the Olympics. Unseasonably warm weather today in my neighborhoos. Might break a record high temp tomorrow. Not sure I am ready for that…
SOTD = Byredo Gypsy Water, from the sample that refuses to be used up.
Argh! “Neighborhood”, not neighborhoos!
Very late to the party. Tuesdays are my usual night of late calls with Asia Pacific colleagues.
SOTD = 31 Rue Cambon EDT
Day 20 of Month of Irises! This one is super chic!
