Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Ayala Moriel Sunset Beach (and it's a shame I am not trying it on location).
Reminder: on 3/31, your pick of Swap Love or Blind Love...wear a fragrance you acquired via a swap, or wear a fragrance you bought unsniffed. Double bonus points for wearing one of each, triple bonus points for a Blind Swap Love. If you don't swap or buy unsniffed, just wear a fragrance you love. (adapted from a suggestion by Pixel)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m on a recruiting trip for work today and tomorrow so I grabbed a couple of “professional” seeming samples from the sample tin of mystery on my way to the airport.
Today is La Femme Prada and I HATE it. My notes from the last time I wore this seem positive but underwhelming — perfect for recruiting, right? Ugh no today it just smells so sticky-sweet and I want none of it.
Oh, so sorry! Can you layer it with something?
It turns out I have Dame Dark Horse in my makeup bag! The day is saved.
Perfect.
I thought as much La Femme. They took candy and then added this weird saccharine note that is really shrill.
Patty over at PP talked about Superstitious yesterday, so I pulled out Une Fleur de Cassie, and am enjoying the carnation goodness. For some reason, don’t have high hopes for Superstitious, but I do favor floral aldehydes.
Oh, I wonder why? I don’t have high hopes because I don’t generally adore floral aldehydes.
My Une Fleur de Cassie ended up being a cumin bomb and I’m afraid to touch it again.
I’m so glad you mentioned the cumin. I would have sampled it at some point. Money saved!
To confuse you further still: I don’t get any cumin at all from Une Fleur de Cassie 😉
It’s very stanky on me too, can’t wear it.
Me too – I thought even if I persevere and acquire a taste for it, I’ll never be able to wear it round other humans…
I have no idea what I’m wearing. I was going through a box of samples and one vial was unlabelled and half-full of a coral-coloured liquid, so I dabbed a little on and then just poured the rest of the vial all over my hands. It smells like creamy sweet coffee and chocolate (but it isn’t CSP Café Moka: I have a bottle of that and this isn’t it). It’s very simple and REALLY good, whatever is. I guess I’ll never know.
I just HATE unmarked samples. Plus, I too want to know what is creamy sweet coffee and chocolate!
It could be a more concentrated version of CSP Cafe Moka.
Isn’t that frustrating? Sounds delicious, though. I have an unmarked sample I keep trying but, fortunately, it’s pretty unmistakeable: Amouage Interlude Woman.
If you figure out what it was let us know!
Are there cards without vials hanging out in your sample box? I hate it when they label the card and hook a blank vial into it for this exact reason.
SOTD Cuir d’Ange, which was a blind buy that I ended up loving. Ebay is a good source for some of the more polarising Hermessences, lightly used. Vetiver Tonka and Ambre Narguilé, not so much.
You smell great!
You smell great! I love Cuir d’Ange.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Grace Jones, for a sweaty early morning aerobic workout.
Carnal Flower, more menthol than coconut today. Tuberose obviously.
Just looked at the bottom of my bottle- Fab 04/2010, Exp 04/2015.
My bottle is expired! !!!! Oh Me ! Oh My !!!! What shall I do?
Anyone want the rest?
LOLOLOL
What is with perfume people and idiotic marketing gimmicks ?
😀
Carpe Diem.
Triple strength coffee.
Peace.
I have a tin of Lush Potion solid perfume (solid is right, as unyielding as a tabletop, but so much clovey-carnation goodness): on the bottom it says MADE ON 15/OCT/07 USE BY 15/OCT/08. And here it is, 30/MAR/17, and it still smells as good as it ought to. Expiry dates on food are dubious at best: expiry dates on perfumes are sheer nonsense.
Preach!
lol! But that “nonsense” got me a bottle of Roja Dove Unspoken extrait several years ago because the owner bought a “fresh” bottle every year! Of course my bottle is still glorious.
Great catch!
I have a solid of Imogen Rose of about the same vintage, and it actually smells better to me now than when it was “fresh.”
Twins!
When I think of the fragrances that I pitched out in my younger days because they had “expired” I want to slap myself upside the head.
Bear – I would be more than happy to take that staledated bottle off your hands 😛
I went overboard 2 years ago when Lush had their holiday sale, and a year after the expiry date, my Lord of Misrule shower gel has separated, but a quick shake, and all is golden. Good thing, because I have a bottle of Dirty and Rose Jam yet to use up…..
With many Lush Shower gels unless you store them in super hot areas they will last for a couple of years!
I noticed the exp dates in my Lush shower gels and was surprised. I have never seen an exp date on perfume… bizarre.
I think Lush in particular does that because they use fewer preservatives than most brands.
Grace Jones and Carnal Flower?? Can I hang out with you today???
Bear, I saw a news story about “the world’s most caffeinated coffee” earlier today and thought about your daily beverage. The stuff is called Black Insomnia Coffee, and can be found on Amazon. I almost got a buzz from reading about it…
Oh, thanks Jalapeno!
I will look on Amazon!
Cheers!
😀
Wearing Ostara. Such a beautiful green-floral scent, refreshing, sunny, bright. Matching today’s weather in the Big Apple.I still do not understand why it was discontinued.
Because it didn’t sell?
Exactly. It is a shame that so many good scents are not appreciated and not lucky enough to survive.
LOL
Thanks for saying what I was thinking.
Follow the money- it applies to everything, for better or worse.
😉
I found a bottle for 70 euros and I am in doubt whether to buy it… I have so many perfumes already..
I would say “get it” while you can still find it.
I’m jealous of your Ostara. I need to get myself a botlle before it’s fully gone.
Twins!
🙂
Ostara was my first (and best) blind buy. So pretty!
I’m wearing the lovely and gentle Musc Intense, which is a refined floral musk.
Tea is an Orange Pekoe from the Azores. It’s rather nice.
I have only discovered orange pekoe teas a few months ago, and they are now one of my favourite teas, I really have been missing out, such a nice discovery tho!
Wearing Guerlain Habit Rouge EDP. Lovely.
Indeed it is!
SOTD = NV Mohur Extrait, the best rose perfume ever. IMHO. And when I have this on, adorable hubby invariably snuggles into my neck and says, “You smell GOOD!” I am a happy woman. 🙂
You smell gorgeous!
I got a sample of the perfume and wasn’t impressed, is the extrait very different to the perfume?
To me mellower and much richer. Rose is often a little screechie to me, but not this one.
Don’t shoot the messenger. There is a contender for “best” — Byredo Reine de Nuit. If you love POAL, you must try this. If you hate patchouli, don’t bother.
Ooh, never heard of this Byredo, need to track down a sample!
Patchouli is not my favorite, but you and I share many similarities of taste, so I will make a point of trying this… Thanks!
Yes, that’s Vancouver’s Sunset Beach in the West End. Hard to imagine the huge mass of high-density residences nearby. Wearing some coconut-scented dry oil, so I can pretend it’s beach season.
Good, I got it right for once. Thanks!
With this post below, my gravatar mysteriously came back, Robin! Yay!
Probably because finally the cache expired — now you can see what we’ve all been seeing 🙂
Thought I recognized the photo. Used to live nearby for years.
SOTD: Apres L’Ondee because it finally stopped raining in Vancouver!
I am wearing one of my first blind buys after discovering NST. I bought a full bottle Eau du Sud shortly after reading Robin’s review.
I’m afraid to ask, but do you love it?
I still have not tried the newer versions.
This is not the 2016 version, since I got it on ebay a few years ago. I do love it, but mostly for the summer. It is great during our hot humid summer.
Good then.
Fleur de Chine today because I discovered a budding perfume lover at work and want to give her a chance to sniff it. Am taking her a little selection of samples too.
Lucky workmate!
How fun! Enjoy!
What a generous person you are! Enjoy sharing!
Twins!
Leaving for the art museum in a few minutes and just applied vintage Bal edt. It might not be the greatest idea but better than something uber heavy like, I don’t know, Epic Woman.
Bal is never a bad idea….
Doctors appt in No22
No time for coffee or tea
Twins !!!
What an olfactory treat for the doctor’s office! ????
YSL Cinema. Warm but not too sweet. A vanilla go r someone who thought Organza Indecence was too much.
It’s definitely summer today. ????
For, not go r.
Jealous, wish it was summer here.
Kelly Caleche for my first day back at work, following my husband’s treatment. Yesterday I wore Durga as they rang the bell to celebrate his last day of radiation. Not sure how I feel about Durga. I think it smells better in the vial than on me. Or at least very different. The melon is honeyed, but also earthy somehow. Or maybe that’s the musk. It’s interesting at least. Will try again another day.
Congratulations to you all for his treatment being over. Wishes for fast healing!
Kelly Caleche is pretty. Haven’t smelled Durga.
Hurray on your husband last treatment! *blows a horn* and you smell great!
Yay for the bell!
Yay!, such wonderful news for u!
I love Durga!
You smell fantastic!
Ding ding ding ding ding! Congratulations, and you smell wonderful.
What a great bell to hear! It must have been taxing to both of you to get through such a difficult time – best wishes for things to get back to normal quickly.
Huzzah for the ringing of that bell! Now, hopefully things can settle down into a new normal for you all.
Congratulations to you both on making it through the treatment!
Wearing just a tad too much Chanel No 22 EDT…
I had always avoided this one for some reason, but after trying a sample from a swap, I fell head over heels and managed to snag a FB just before the dreaded EDP conversion.
The EDP version is not that bad. I wore them side by side and couldn’t tell the difference actually.
You smell fab, twin.
You smell great!
SOTD is Beyond Paradise Man, one of my many not awesome blind purchases, but pleasant and perfectly office-friendly
Which is better than a blind-bought scrubber!
SOTD =. Tauer Dark Passage
This was a blind buy love only available through a Kickstarter project several years back. I am really getting the patchouli and birch and cacao today. LOVE LOVE LOVE. If anyone has an unloved atomizer of this, I would swap for it 🙂
I had no takers for a freebie I mentioned earlier in the week. I have a pack of new mascara to send to anyone in the U.S. who posted a comment last week in one of last week’s daily SOTD. Caveats apply that I cannot replace it if the package somehow gets lost or damaged in the mail. Click on my name to get my comtact info.
Hey there!
If the notes are correct, you smell AMAZING.
I was originally in Hermes Eau de Narcisse Bleu, but now have several new The Body Shop scents sprayed on different parts of my body.
Bowhanti is my favourite, I think it’s a very nice woody perfume – reminds me a bit of Feminite du Bois. I think it should be a little bit cheaper, but otherwise a really good job.
Oh, almost forgot about that TBS collection! I must go try now that they’re finally in the US.
YSL Cinema today. Perfect for a cool spring day. Very light as I’ll be at work.
Yum! You smell great, twin!
Getting into the swing of our stormy Spring with some vintage Jicky. Love this dirty lavender. 🙂
Jicky is on my FB list. I bet your vintage is divine.
I’m wearing my most gorgeous recently acquired shirt today, and so had to pair it with my most gorgeous recently acquired fragrance: Galop. A blind split that I knew wouldn’t go wrong, but I was unprepared for just how *right* it would go! Galop makes me feel like Helen of Troy.
Oh, do describe if you have the time.
That is 1 of 4 I want to sample in the coming months.
TIA, Isabella. 😉
Yes please do describe! I’m also thinking of sampling this..Is the rose noticeable throughout? Love rose..
It’s a great big delicious red rose wrapped in slightly sweaty leather, to my nose. Simultaneously elegant and feral in a Pre-Raphaelite sort of way. And the drydown is gorgeous — it seems to fade away and then get a second wind and return as a radiant, shimmering scarlet thing licked with rose syrup.
You smell fabulous!
Good morning Y’all…..
Spring Break starts in just a few more hours! So ready for the family to slow down for a few days….
SOTD: Back in Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia. Really loving how soft and gentle is it….
It is really pretty, isn’t it? Very refreshing and light, perfect for a warmer spring in my (very humble) opinion.
English Pear & Freesia is one of my favorite warmer weather scents as well. You smell very nice!
I’m wearing Le Labo Iris 39. I got a small sample in a swap a while back. I totally fell in love with it and I ended up getting the liquid balm version. A blind swap win for me!
Every time I wear Iris 39, I fall in love with it again. You smell great!
I tried this one in Liberty last year, very lovely, u smell great!
You smell wondeful! I’m curious about the balm – how long does it last for you?
Nice!
It is dreary and drizzly here (again!) but I am trying to will spring to come in Apres L’Ondee.
Hi Al’O twin! 🙂
Hey twin! We smell great!
SotD = Apres l’Ondee, eight sprays. It’s almost impossible to over-apply this one.
It’s not been raining, but after heat and wind yesterday with cool weather ahead today, the scent fits my mood. It’s nice to wear Apres l’Ondee in the morning as I typically choose it for afternoon or evening. I wonder why.
Love! I usually do 2-3 sprays, but can see it never being overwhelming.
love that, a classic
meant to put that with acres l’ondee sorry
Wearing some Ostara I just acquired in the swap meet! I bought a small decant of this right after it was discontinued and managed to break it the first time I tried to wear it, so I’ve smelled it but not worn it before. Half-blind? Anyway, liking it a lot for spring (I was pretty sure I would).
The opening of this one is just wonderful. It’s so hard to believe it didn’t sell. Enjoy!
I have a fb of another lovely Penhaligon’s scent – Night Scented Stock – which was also discontinued very quickly. They ought to give their products a little bit longer to find audience, I think.
Jasmin et Cigarette today. It’s blustery and cool – more or less what one expects from spring in the southern plains, I suppose! I have a long day ahead of me, but not for the usual reasons, and forgot to bring a comb so I hope J&C helps me maintain the illusion of polish.
IPDF Talco Delicato for me today. Soft and comforting. I had a super long day at work yesterday, so I could use it.
The awful cough/cold that my grands had, has finally ‘caught’ me. ???? Sitting in the window seat wrapped in blankets and
Drinking Double strength dark chocolate coffee -and eating hot oatmeal with mixed berries, to soothe my throat.
Oddly / happily enough I can still smell, so I’m wearing my Beige Edt that I purchased in the split.
Spring is coming y’all!
Hope you feel better soon
Get better soon!
I wore Beige yesterday. It is so beautiful. Hope you feel better soon.
I wore Beige today because you wore Beige yesterday and I thought, “it’s been too long”.
Get better soon. At least you smell amazing!
Oh, bummer that the crud caught up with you. Get well soon!
Ugh, colds. Get well soon.
Thanks for all the well wishes!
Off to get a massage before I have to meet my boyfriend’s parents for dinner. Wearing Guerlain French Kiss since I wore it on our first date and that obviously went well….I think he may be more nervous than me
Oh! Have a good time and good luck!
Goodluck!, French kiss sounds like a really good choice. I hope that u like them!
Good luck! You smell fantastic for that special dinner!
Breathe. For 2 reasons, 1 being that you smell lovely.
Enjoy the evening knowing you smell fabulous.
Have a great time!
Best of luck with meeting the parents!
Good luck!
Rushing in and out to say hi on one of the few days I am still commando, (because too too busy)…it is almost 6 pm here. I have been wearing and enjoying tremendously April Aromatic’s latest, Agartha, one of the happiest springiest scents I have. It was a Hajusuuri size sample with no regrets whatsoever. Also wearing the very much rationed le Temps d’une Fete, I relocated a long lost sample and almost wish I didn’t as I love it to bits. Left another message, in French, at Nicolai’s parfums trying to verify the rumour they still make it on special request, but alas, resounding silence. You all smell lovely or if you don’t I am sure you will tomorrow!
Hi again!
Le temps d une Fete is my favorite spring fragrance and I sent an email to Nicolai last year and bought a bottle. It all went smoothly, I made a bank transfer and soon after got my bottle. Good luck. Let me know how it goes, I can send you another sample if you don’t manage to get a bottle.
Ola to you! I just mailed you. Did you leave a message on their website? Or do you have an email address? If so, would you mind mailing it to me (you should have my address by now) or even your correspondence so I can refer to it? I would be so happy if I managed to get a bottle!
Did you really? That’s amazing.
I had sent an email asking if I could buy it… this must have been fall of 2015, I think… and got an email back stating it was not available.
Maybe it has been available since 2016? Try again!
I have a small sample of Agartha and will try it shortly!
I’m wearing Alaia today. I need to get some paperwork together on this very rainy day. Very quiet. Just me, the dog and the raindrops.
That sounds really nice. I have been wearing the Blanche flanker. It is low-key but with a hint of almond (and musk)
I’m still working on the paperwork, but taking a break 🙂
I think I like the Blanche flanker just as much as the original.
You smell great!
Wearing Black by Bulgari. I love it but I need to feel in the mood to wear it, maybe a masculine mood? Cant really define it.
Well, in any case, you smell wonderful! ????
In honor of my Mom who is now undergoing radiation for Stage 3 Lung Cancer: Au Dela, her favorite new old style perdume!!
Best of luck to your mom.
A lot of strength to you and your mom!
Good luck and keep going!
Good luck to u and you’re mum!
The best for your mom. My thoughts and prayers with you both. Sending hugs.
Strength and comfort to you both!
Healing prayers for your mom. You smell lovely.
Wishing your mother and you the best!
That’s a lovely way to give support to your mom. I’ll be thinking of you both.
Sending positive thoughts to you and your mom.
Finger (and toes!) crossed for a good outcome. Best wishes.
Aack! That should be “fingers”.
Prayers and hugs for you and your Mom.
Strength and healing wishes to you and your mom.
So sorry to hear this, AngelaB. Sending healing thoughts!
I wish you all the strength in the world for this very tough battle. Hugs to you and your family. We’ll be thinking about you.
So late — but if you see this, AngelaB — know that I’m sending strengthening and hopeful vibes to you and your mom!
Happy Thursday guys!
1) SOTD: Homemade (unscented) body oil serum and Eau de Soir because I must admit, I love it. I may need to buy a full bottle of this as a b day present in a few weeks!
The body oil serum is an experiment, a less expensive take on Kahina’s Body Serum. Instead of Morrocan Argan oil, which is (rightfully) expensive, using grapeseed oil as the base, then swapping in avocado. watermelon seed and sunflower oil. I then added some drops of (synthetic) Vitamin A + E. The texture of this mixture is not as light as Kahina’s but it absorbs beautifully and I think that that you if have dryish and sun damaged skin, this mixture may work to soothe. I will publish a definite recipe in a couple weeks after experimenting.
2) Meeting up with a flaky friend up from Texas after work! I have not seen her in a year and a half so it will be nice to catch up!
I have a really good “flaky friend” from college. She’s a lot of fun.
That’s a nourishing recipe–do report back once you feel you’ve perfected it! (You’re right, argan oil definitely should be expensive to be both socio-economically and ecologically responsible!)
Hiram Green Dilettante from a tiny dabbed sample, so it’s already gone. But I did like it while it lasted. Wondering how much longer I would get from an actual spray. Only mildly obsessed with orange blossom….
With their travel bottles it’s almost free! Go for it! 🙂 (I haven’t tried it yet but want to)
I get a long wear sprayed. Love that perfume, you smell wonderful!
Lasts a really long time for me, sprayed.
Plan to wear Mona di Orio Vanille because I love it and a co-worker who doesn’t like it (and very politely asked me not to wear it) isn’t in the office today.
Was it the only one the co-worker objected to?
Actually, yes – that’s why I try to be considerate. That and the fact that it was my manager 😉
When I was on work leave last year, I used to go for a walk every day towards Sunset Beach. I would use that sculpture as a marker then turn around and head home.
SOTD is Ancient Resins body oil layered with Stash perfume oil. JJlook have me the idea for this combo.
Ooh, how do you like it? Have not yet worn the two together, actually, but I bet it would be extra-incensey!
(and you were right about the Cartier l’envol!)
I do like this smokey pairing! While not quite right for the office, i can just imagine how perfect it would be for a day outdoors, rain or shine.
Wearing Fleur de Chine this afternoon. Such a gorgeous spring day today, I was too hot in my jeans, and it feels so good to be bare legged! I did some weeding around the Daphne bush which smell’s glorious, it really is one of the most delicious smells, like tangy lemon sorbet or lemon sherbet whipped into cream.
Had an observation at work which was a bit stressful, so glad it’s over, and now can look forward to the Easter holidays with my little monkeys. About to decorate hard boiled eggs for the Egg Rolling competition at school tomorrow.
Do enjoy those colored eggs with your little ones. I miss those days. 😉
That sounds like so much fun. Sorry about the stressful observation, but at least it’s over now!
Life is filled with an avalanche of smallish difficulties right now, so reaching for a comfort scent today, my dear Vetiver Tonka. Yum.
Hope things get better. Vetiver Tonka is a very nice comfort scent. You smell good.
Scent twins!
Hope the comfort and sun are doing the trick.
Sometimes a bunch of small things are worse than one big thing. 🙁 Hope things are looking up for you in the near future.
I hope it worked, and that the small difficulties roll away.
Today ‘Blackpepper’ by Comme des Garçons.
From the swapmeet I am wearing Penhaligon’s Elixir, another one discontinued. It’s like but not love–I’ll use up the decant but I’m not in tears that I can’t get any more.
Oh hi Vancouver, and it’s actually sunny today, too…
Ancient Resins + Dries van Noten for me.
Robin: I can’t tell on my bottle of Stash oil if it is silicone based, but it doesn’t have that weird texture I think of, and is pretty potent, just a few drops kind of a scent. Hmm.
Ah, thank you! I bet it does, then. Use it up!
Plum on my right arm, 1970 on the left and a plate of toast and home made plum jam in front of me. Waiting for sunrise…about 115 minutes from now.
1970 is more jammy and less sweet than Plum, denser but closer to the skin
Plum is bigger, has that slight moringa sweetness
The toast is crispy, not too crunchy. Unsalted butter is smooth and creamy. The jam is sticky, deep red and rich, with a hint of prune.
1970 wins in the perfume category.
Sounds like a perfect morning. I think toast is my favourite food.
Toast is really good.
I’ll toast to that! Plum is good , too, but today I prefer 1970
Mmmm, toast. I’m eating toast with almond butter. 🙂
Buttered toast with cinnamon sugar! Yum!
Ooh, yes! Double yum!
Our cafeteria had toast with avocado spread and turkey bacon. I saw it too late today and will catch it next week instead. Oh, and toast with Speculoos spread is divine!
????? Specu-what???
SOTD is 4160 Tuesdays “Who Knew?”.
Top: strawberry, grass and bergamot;
Mid: cedar, sandalwood, ambergris, rose and geranium;
Base: vetiver, vanilla, green tea and benzoin.
Kiss test: it’s a very nice frog, but it’s a frog rather than a prince, for me. :^)
Have any of the 4160’s been princes?, curious about this line, I haven’t tried any yet.
The ones I love are Urura’s Tokyo Café (now Tokyo Spring Blossom, powdery violet/rose) and A Kiss by the Fireside (peated whiskey). Will retry Captured by Candlelight as it made a good first impression. Up the Apple and Pears was so-so and I didn’t like The Buddhawood Box.
She has a great choice of small bottles and a discovery pack, so really worth trying out.
I’ve smelled Shazam on a friend. It reminded me a little of Chergui.
SOTD is Fleuriste by DSH.
Yum.
????
Indult Rêve en Cuir for me today. It’s light enough to be worn on a sunny spring day like today.
I couldn’t decide what to wear this morning because I wasn’t really feeling any of it, so I decided simple and cleanish would work and went with Vetiver Tonka.
Missed a few days! Hope everyone is well. Cat with feeding tube has gained half a pound, my son who was in Africa is home and happy, and my husband is feeling chuffed for having asked for a raise (and was not turned down.. . if not exactly given a direct answer).
Challenges: Still no work for me, cat needs so much care!, and said son is leaving on Tuesday for Jordan for two months…
Delights: Coffee from beans my son brought back from Tanzania, our garden in the sunshine, and the swapmeet. I thought the swapmeet was about getting what I wanted. I got decants of a few fragrances I wanted, but loads of things I did not know I needed… weird and wonderful things!
Today’s weird and wonderful perfume: The impossible to say quickly 5 times in a row–Quinacridone Violet (DSH). Very weird. Strong, but with almost no sillage. It goes on lemon/lemongrass territory (not a fave note so I am not hankering for an FB), then veers into distinctly li hing mui territory (those salty dried plums), with a puff of slightly powdery violet rounding it all out. Wouldn’t want to live here, but awfully glad I got to visit!
Yay! for kitty and for you. Caring for an ailing family member is a full-time concern. Happy to hear things are trending upward. 🙂
Nice to hear that your cat is doing well.
I’m glad the kitty is doing better! Wow, your family has a lot going on right now.
I love those salty plums (especially in oatmeal with parsley!!), but I’m not convinced I’d want to smell like them.
Well, in truth, the perfume smells more like the plums taste than like they smell, if that makes sense?!
Glad your kitty is improving and your son is happily returned from Africa. Out of curiosity, if I may ask: will he be doing more volunteer work in Jordan or some sort of study…? I’m scratching my travel itch vicariously through other people these days.
Me too! That is scratching my travel itch through others…hopefully that can change in a year or so… My son is enrolled in a boarding school in Madaba for the fourth quarter–so he will be studying (he’s in 10th grade) and hanging out with kids from around the region.
We just came back from shopping for gifts. Among the items, I bought him a few bottles of cologne from Body Time, a local perfume and soap shop (used to be call The Body Shop before Anita Roddick bought the name) to bring people as gifts. My son is a little dubious about giving perfume as a gift, but I have tried to assure him it will be well received. We’ll see!
My younger sister did her peace corps service in Jordan and loved it!
Really? What did she do? And when? (Sorry to be so nosy!) I’ve been to Amman a couple of times for work, but would love to have the chance to explore the whole country at some point.
Late 1990s. She worked on a women’s economic empowerment project under the Noor Al Hussein foundation, you can see it here, look under the Wadi Mousa jewelry project:
http://www.nooralhusseinfoundation.org/index.php?pager=end&task=view&type=content&pageid=59
And adding — she went on to work for a number of NGOs in Africa, then married someone in the Foreign Service. She is currently in Montenegro, after stints in Nepal and Kenya & etc. If your son is planning a career overseas and he wants a contact, send me an email.
Lumiere Noire today.
MFK? Lovely!
yes indeed. 😀 thank you!
Hi all, it’s been a busy few days and I’ve got lots of NST reading to catch up on over the weekend. I’ll be in Paestum Rose today, i think.
Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue today. I am sooo tired. Ready for the week to end.
You smell terrific!
Surfing The Sample Sea Day 10!
Reeking havoc in:
Parfum Rare
Unter der Linden
Purple Reign
Fils de Dieu
Camellia (Aroma M)
It’s been said that it takes 21 days to form a habit, but I figure 10 days is much more my speed. (Actually I think it’s more like one day, but I’m not always sensible.) I’ll be continuing my sampling spree until I’m done but will most likely not inflict this upon y’all cuz boring. Now I just gotta figure out how to wear what I like as my sotd while still pursuing my project.
Not boring! I love to see single-minded devotion to an effort like yours. But if you’re done with listing samples I see no fault there. 🙂
Thank you, tiffanie! I figured establishing accountability for a while would help me stay on track, and it has.
Tiffanie- I agree…I look forward to reading about all the havoc Holly is reeeking 🙂
Wow! what a combo today 🙂
I’m curious what you thought of Purple a Reign and Unter der Linden? I have a sample of PR but never tried UdL.
I want to read what you’re sampling!
Blind swap for me today. Ylang 49. It’s not love but it is nice, if rather fleeting it seems.
huh.that’s a huge scent on me.love it!
Could be my sniffer. A lot of scents have seemed fleeting lately….
I’m in Dame Perfumery Mandarin, Neroli & Cedar today. Just right.
Have a great Thursday(/Friday), all!
You have a great day too!
Thanks! So far so good, and if it’s half as good as your toast and jam sounded, I’ll consider it a success. ????
10 CC for me today- it’s relaxing and cozy to me. Hope you all are having great days.
I hope that you feel a little better today and you smell great!
Another pick from the sample stash. I did not check Fragrantica for a notes list before I tried today’s SOTD, so that sort of counts towards a blind sniff?
SOTD = by Killian’s Forbidden Games. There is something in this that smells a lot like either SweetTarts or Smarties candy.
Lol! I love Smarties and SweetTarts to eat, not wear!
Am in Los Angeles for a conference, so I brought only California themed samples. Today – the gorgeous Oliver Peoples by Byredo. This stuff is great – it reminds me of sunshine and warm rocks and scrubby bushes and eternal optimism. (I lived in southern California in my early 20s, and it perfectly fits my happy memories.).
Was intrigued by that at Byredo this past weekend based on the description. But they didn’t have any to sniff.
Late to the party. I’m wearing Iris Silver Mist, just the right antidote for today (and the week). It’s my second time trying it out and this is crazy good.
Late, but you win, because ISM 🙂
Thank you Robin! It’s amazing 🙂
