It's Freaky Friday! Our community project for today is Let Your Freak Frag Fly — wear your oddest fragrance. Thanks to Monkeytoe for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm smelling fantastic, and only just ever so slightly like fox pee, in Serge Lutens Miel de Bois. I'm not sure it's really my oddest fragrance, but it was the first thing that came to mind this morning. (The second was Lush Voice of Reason, and I briefly considered layering, and decided, nope.)
Reminder: on 3/10 we're taking the Booze Cruise...wear a perfume with a booze note. Suggested by Koenigsberg.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I went with “Robocops Deodorant” Evil Max
The other two I had picked for today were Cepes and Tuberose and Santal 33.
I had a freaky frag week..and I liked everything I wore so I am not sure what that says about me 😉
Happy Friday everyone.
Evil Max is a great scent. You smell fantastic today.
Thank you BobH
Your rum and apple scent sounds de-lish
Huh. Can you detect the sour cherry?
more of a tobacco cherry, what about you?
Fox pee! Waving my freak flag with vintage Joy edt–neither “clean” nor “fresh” are anywhere in evidence (nor “youthful,” for that matter). Indole heaven.
PSA that The Cultured Cup is offering 10% off all in-stock Mariage Freres teas through 3/9 with code frenchtea.
heading over to culture cup! Thank you! I am on their email list I wonder how I missed this
Oh dear. Thank you, I guess.
(And you smell lovely.)
You probably smell elegant and diva-ish. Never tried anything from Patou 🙁 this probably makes me the worse perfumista ever!!! 😮
Oh, you smell terrific! I don’t get to wear my vintage Joy as often as I’d like — it’s too sexy for my very polite and proper office, and when I wear it at home it elicits knitted brows and dubious “Whoa”s from my partner.
I am wearing CdG 2011. The note list includes industrial glue and brown scotch tape. It’s definitely a weird one. Glue, leather, flowers…
They really have fun with their freaky scents, don’t they??
Yep, I think the perfumer(s) really had fun creating this weirdness.
Great choice!
The CdG that never got a proper name 😉
I really wanted that one to smell like packaging tape and was disappointed that it didn’t.
😆 I agree, it does not smell like scotch tape. The glue note does not disappoint though. Overall, to me it smells like a shoe repair shop. Surprisingly, I am really enjoying this freaky scent.
I had a cat who used to lick the glue off of scotch tape, if I left it out somewhere. If he found a wrapped present unattended, he would go to town until there was nothing but wet paper and plastic strips remaining!
????
My husband had a cat who acquired a taste for popcorn. If we were having movie night on the couch, we had to give him his own dish to keep our fingers safe!
That one smelled terrificly like scotch tape to me! Great pick!
Wearing Slumberhouse Pear & Olive – definitively a freaky scent, but one I adore.
Green green olive oil and slightly-past-prime pears waft out behind me. This has been a really fun week.
I love that one! So sad it’s discontinued, my decant is used up.
Twins! I also smell a bit like…cream cheese? I am continuing my end-of-year resolution of using up my samples before they evaporate, so I spritzed the P+O sample with abandon. Maybe we could start a petition to have it brought back.
This one gets a lot of love around here, but I have to say that combination sounds truly nauseating! lol
It smells like coconut to me 🙂
I don’t really have anything freaky anymore. Any freaky samples I had I went through already.
I’m in Nuit Rouge, which is the only sort of freaky I think I have now.
LesNez Manoumalia. One of my most distinctive and memorable fragrances. It smells like it’s from another world, and it is. It’s wonderful antidote to a grey day. Don’t buy unsniffed, as not everyone seems to love it.
http://perfumeposse.com/2010/07/13/lesnez-manoumalia/
Oh yeah, NO, do not buy unsniffed.
Man, that’s a freaky one.
I remember when I finally sampled this one, I was so excited! Folks spoke of it with such enthusiasm, I couldn’t wait to open the tester. I put a little on my wrist, and wait, WHAT?!
I may still have that little dabber somewhere, in hopes some day I will *get* it!
It’s languishing in my maybe-someday-I’ll-“get”-it box, too.
I was finally able to remove Mitsouko from that list last year, so you never know!
You don’t want to know what it reminded me of.
Oh, yes I do!
Twins! I adore Manoumalia and its note of decaying vegetation. Nothing else like it.
Yes! It glorifies decay like nothing else. I love it too, even though I don’t wear it very often.
Totally agree! I bought a bottle as soon as I opened my sample.
Adding this one to my sample list, too- this week will end up being very terrible for my wallet over the next month, I can feel it
A friend who’d lived in New Caledonia said it smelled just like it. I found it eh, okay, myself.
Finishing the working week with caramel baked apples, a touch of rum and METAL(!). Deliria, the weirdest of the L’Artisan Explosion series and sadly discontinued. Good job I have a back up bottle.
I had a sample of this a while back and definitely thought it was freaky. The mix of sweetness and metal was a bit too much for me, but it fits the bill for this challenge.
I have a small bottle of Onde Sensuelle from that series, it’s a grapefruit freak! That was a very strange series.
I’ve obviously got that one as well! I like me a bit of freaky.
Cousins! What’s up with all the metal in that series?
Anatole Lebreton Grimoire – I love it, but it probably isn’t for everyone. It’s a little sweaty, cumin-y, and smoky. I only have to go into work for a little while, and my boss is gone, so I sprayed generously!
Sounds like I need a sample of that!
This week has taught me that my fragrance freak flag is not particularly freaky! La Fin du Monde’s popcorn quirkiness is about as close as I get.
Quirky can be good.
Like Robin I also chose a Lutens- Tubereuse Criminelle- and decided against a LUSH (The Bug). TC to me is tuberose with Deep Heat, and the Simpsons episode where the Flanders kids are excited about wintergreen icecream 🙂
Twins in spirit!
Scent twins! The opening is very strange indeed but the dry down is sublime.
The drydown is nice.
“the sunshine fragrance by Estee Lauder” , so proclaims the golden yellow box.
Is it Bronze Goddess? The latest Pleasures flanker?
No and nope.
It is the butcher than an Indigo Girls concert audience, Azuree.
Herbs, bone dry leather, gardenia in the distance, geranium, and oakmoss.
Vintage bottle- 180 degrees is a half hexagon, the other 180 is rounded.
More anachronism than weird.
😉
Workout music – the Best of INXS.
Carpe Diem. Peace.
Triple strength coffee always.
My favorite aunt wore Azuree in the 70s. It was hard to know where the bourbon and cigarettes left off and the perfume began 😉
Great music choice!
Azuree is the best kind of bonkers. I also considered Alliage this morning.
Azurée was my first full bottle. I love it so much. Peace to you too!
I wouldn’t mind going to an IG concert….????
Smelling great in Azuree!
SotD: I am wearing the completely unfreaky Guerlain Derby since I was called in to a meeting with among other people the president of the university. Had I not had my surprise meeting, I think I would have gone with CdG Tar.
You smell unfreaky and very lovely.
First, thanks for the great idea for the Friday challenge. I applaud your decision to keep it classy whilst meeting with the brass. I hope your meeting goes well.
Tar is one of my biggest perfume regrets, as I never got a FB. It was so weird, and wonderful. I’m glad to hear someone else give it love. One of my great joys was layering it with other things. Be well!
SL certainly has some unique ones. No freak for me this morning, I should have looked through my samples. My regulars are fairly tame.
Mine too. Plenty of weird samples, but the weirdest thing I own is Memoir Woman. Which, okay, is moderately weird.
I chose Memoir Woman today, too. It reminds me a bit of SL Chypre Rouge, and I think I was one of 10 people who actually liked that one…!
????I think you might be perfume braver than I am. I don’t think I have anything that really qualifies as weird anymore. I’ve already worked through and passed on the stuff that is honestly challenging. Weirdest thing I have right now is a sample of Rhubarb Escalarte! ????
I love the Rhubarb!
I haven’t given this much thought, real life has gotten in the way this week and I’m not sure that I have anything especially freaky. I’m searching for my decant of CdG Odeur 53 that I forgot to look for last week but I don’t recall that it’s too OTT. Have a great weekend everyone 🙂
It’s freaky enough — you have a great weekend too!
I probably should have worn Miel de Bois or Chypre Rouge, but Etat Libre d’Orange is getting all my love these days (mostly Rossy de Palma). I COULD have gone with Sécretions Magnifiques, which is weird enough for any three scents, but you’ll never get that on my skin again, so I went with Nombril Immense, which isn’t very freaky (delicious patchouli) but has a freaky name (“gigantic belly-button”).
The big belly button becomes quite cozy after a bit.
Penhaligon’s Tralala. It starts out trollop, but becomes girly glam. The bottle and box are freaky fun. It’s weird and wonderful to wear at home.
That bottle would win any freaky contest!
Truly.
Finally FRIDAY! Wearing Bond No.9 New York Oud. Very weird. It smells to me of burned meat. I guess the very potent oud here is causing that. I don’t clearly get any of the other notes like roses, saffron, honey, plum, etc. It is very animalic and super overwhelming, but at the same time captivating. I will never buy a full bottle, but I see myself wearing the sample at home. I guess layering it with a rose perfume will do the trick.
NYC does smell like burnt meat in some areas where there are the street carts grilling
You couldn’t have described it better!
If there was to be a oud for New York, burnt meat is part of that. One of the few Bond’s that I like.
New York Oud was a big surprise for me considering that i have not been lucky with Bond No.9 lately. Weird but astonishing.
My husband would love ot if I smelled like a grilled steak ????
😀
Well, I had decided on Broken Theories for today’s theme, but the sprayer decided “no dice, babe”, so I went with CdG Sugi. It almost feels like an insult to call it odd because it’s so pretty … but it’s oddly pretty so I think it fits. Happy Friday!
Broken sprayer on Broken Theories? That’s too much!
Broken Promises!
????
Very ironic, n’est-ce pas?
I have no impulse control. My plan was to wear Chypre Mousse, which is the weirdest scent I own that is wearable for me, but then I saw my tiny little treasure- vintage Mitsouko. I guess the freak part will be me huffing myself all day.
The weirdest scent I own is SIP Musk Botanique. To me It smels like all of the plants on our planet start taking over the world. I just can’t wear it, it’s too creepy.
May your Friday be without incident!
I remember trying SIP Musk Botanique a while ago- I thought it should have been named “Audrey II” from Little Shop of Horrors….
This has intrigued me now!
Seriously — I have to try this!!
Plants taking over the world is great!
Kevin hated SIP MB! I love it!
I’m wearing Chypre Mousse today. I adore it! I don’t get many compliments but I don’t care!! Most people just like sweet trashy perfumes anyway. CM is classy, timeless and so well done. And lasts all day❤
Twins!
In the probably not freaky to others but super freaky for me, Iris Silver Mist. The is only the second time I’ve worn it but it feels so unwearable to me. Carrots/turnip/metal/powder. Maybe one day I will “get” it, but I don’t think it’s going to be today. 😉
There’s lots of love for this one around here, but I don’t get it either. It was very metallic on me.
I wore that yesterday. Not super freaky but not a love either.
KellyC I can’t do metallic either- very weird to my nose!
Tauer’ line is my most recent-‘ everyone seems to like this but- nope!’ experience. Lots of other pretties out there, right? ????
I’ve liked the only two Tauers I’ve tried thus far- Lonesome Rider and Au Coeur du Desert. This is the only SL I own, so I’m definitely going to have to sample more. If I judged on ISM alone, it’d be bad lol.
If you like Tauer’s, I would highly recommend trying SL’ s Ambre Sultan. It’s extraordinary imo.
Thanks! I love amber and it’s on my “to sample” list! I’m sure there are SL’s I’ll love, just not going to be ISM I don’t think.
FWIW, there aren’t many SL I’ve taken to, and a lot I quite dislike or can do without. It’s not required to love his line, even if it seems like it at times 😉
I have a small decant that I wear rarely. When I first tried it I was amazed. If was so otherworldly! But after wearing my tiny bit all day it turned into carrots. The opening is stunning but for me it’s all about the drydown. Has why I love Chypre Mousse. The drydown is heavenly❤
Kate, I hope one day I can appreciate it like you! Even this afternoon, I want to spray something over it. It’s something that I can appreciate from the bottle but I have not enjoyed wearing it. 🙁
KellyC, I’m a huge fan of iris but to paraphrase Lucas from Chemist in the Bottle, ISM smells like boiled carrots and tombstones on me. If that note is new to you, Robin did a wonderful series according to season devoted to it.
It is somewhat a new note to me! The only other iris I have that I know of at least is Silver Iris by Atelier Cologne which I do enjoy much more than ISM. And yes, that’s the perfect description from Lucas! I love exploring new things (as I suppose most everyone here does) but I’ve had to accept that there are some highly ranked/reviewed frags that I’m simply not going to love or “get” and that’s okay haha. I’ll search for Robin’s series because I’d love to explore more iris- do you have a favorite, Holly?
Oh gosh, honestly I would compare an iris note to cloud formations…that sense of weather on the horizon. I think a great place to start is Prada’s Infusion d’Iris and their Absolue by the same name. A personal favorite is Iris Nazarena, but I think that iris is a note that is difficult to interpret, much like the weather.
Frozen carrot vodka from Mars – not my favourite either…
I’m sure I won’t be alone in my SOTD: Zoologist Bat. It’s weird but its wonderful.
On another topic… I bought 5 samples from The Perfume Court. One had leaked and was almost empty when I got it. Another has a defective lid which I can’t get off in order to spray it. I tried getting in touch with TPC by clicking on “contact us”. It tells me to submit a help ticket, but when I click on submit a help ticket it says “page not found”. Anyone have a secret email or any other ideas?
Joining you in the bat cave!
Sorry to hear about your samples. I hope someone has a solution.
My last batch of samples from TPC don’t spray very well (the sprayers get perfume all over my sprayer finger), but at least they didn’t leak. I didn’t try contacting them over a relatively small thing, but if I were you I’d keep at it on their website. Was there a phone number on the packing list, by any chance?
Oddly, there was no packing list included!
Well that’s disappointing. Have you tried contacting her through the TPC Facebook page? In the About section there’s an email link……
That’s a good idea!
I really need to try this brand. Soon. 🙂
You should! Civet and Bat are phenomenal and carded samples are adorable
Bat is wonderful! I love the smell of dirt that weaves through it.
I emailed them about a sample that had leaked recently and got an immediate replacement and kind apology. I think I emailed them by responding to the shipping notice they’d sent me, and it worked fine.
+1. Batgirl here. It was always going to be Zoologist today for me. I debated between Macaque, Beaver, and Bat — Bat won.
support@theperfumedcourt.zendesk.com, perhaps
Yes! And it worked! Thank you so much Annie, I knew someone here at NST would be able to help!
Spending the day in Aesop’s Mystra. Not exactly freaky, but dark green and unusual. Also, discontinued – I’m using my last rollerball very sparingly . . .
I never did get to try that one. I know Kevin loves the Aesop line.
I had hopes New Sibet from Slumberhouse (from a sample) would turn out to be somewhat bit freaky or weird. But no! Lovely orris with hints of leather and furs.
But that goat picture in the notes section (on the fragrantica page) sure comes across as a bit weird. 🙂
…most of all because the goat seems to be wearing a knit 😀
SotD = Hiris
I vividly remember my first reaction to Hiris: “Why would anyone want to smell like this?” But I put some on, then after a few minutes I thought, “Everyone should smell like this.”
Thanks to Sistine for wearing it earlier in the week, reminding me that Hiris is comfortably odd and perfectly wonderful. 🙂
Yes!
Yes to Hermes! and Hiris! 🙂
Ha ha — I love your initial reaction, and I agree — Hiris is a beauty!
You smell divine!
The first time I wore Bat, when I explained the story to my husband, he said “Are there really people in the world that want to smell like a bat cave?”
LOL, sometimes I want to the smell like a bat cave. 🙂
I love the icy cool iris in Hiris, but I had to spray my entire 2 ml decant on myself to get any projection – then it only lasted an hour or so.
Can anyone recommend something similar? Elena of Perfume Shrine recommended Yardley Iris to peeps looking for a bargain-rate version of the Hermes, but I find zero similarity between the two.
Nothing freaky today: Eau de Cartier. But I’ve lined up my Arquiste #57 (J.Crew) for next Friday!
But you do smell great!
Recovering from the worst case of the bug I’ve had, I considered Dune, but it was too much for my delicate sinuses. So I am cozy in Black Flower Mexican Vanilla, which I can barely smell, but what I can is soothing… and maybe black flowers qualifies as freaky in some way?
????Sorry to hear you’re sick! Black Flower Mexican Vanilla is a great scent- Dame makes some good stuff. Hope you’re feeling better! ????
So sorry you had that bug- it’s really striking everywhere. I hope you are feeling better – the BFMV should definitely help.
Oh dear, hope your recovery is swift, and cozy!
Thank you for all the kind comments! I am getting some interesting additions to my try a sample list reading through this thread…
Oh no, you got it, too! I hope you feel better soon. I had it bad, and went through a period for about a week when I couldn’t talk, hear, taste, or smell! It was awful.
Yes,it really was awful! Are you all better now?
Yes, just a tiny bit of leftover congestion. Hope yours clears up quickly!
Yes I am looking forward to spellings things again.
Ugh, get well ASAP! That is one nasty-sounding bug.
I am workino on it!
Considered Angel solely for its freak everything-but-the-kitchen-sink mix of notes. Thought about SJP’s Stash b/c that “pickle juice” comment from reviewers makes me laugh. Once that very present black pepper opening passes, the low-throw dry down has me wanting more. There’s Magie Noire, my tiny vintage edt spray. Never more appropriate name for a fragrance. Witch’s brew indeed. But alas, work environment renders all of those choices ineligible.
Went with Armani Mania, original 2000 version, black cap. When I inhale, cannot discern a single note. All I know is that it has me hooked from start to finish, spicy and fresh, light and dark at the same time. Anything that leads with a top note of labdanum and ends with a base note of iris, tosses in some saffron and cloves in the middle for good measure, qualifies as slightly freakish, no?
Mania is definitely freakish, and an old favorite. You smell fantastic!
everything but the kitchen sink is a great description! And village a mile wide.
Agreed on Magie Noire!
Been uber busy and not able to check out posts until this morning. Hermes Rhubarb Escalarte today. Probably not weird to most but it starts a tensy peppery and wonderful rhubarb and roses to zippy grapefruit and morphs to grapefruit skanky something that stinks a little with rhubarb and maybe basil? Just wish it lasted longer! Does well in clothing though. Loving this!
Went with Angel muse today, I love it, but unfortunately my mum who is visiting, has had some kind of respiratory reaction to it.
She’s walking my little boy to ballet, hopefully some fresh air will help.
That’s a pity! Such a pretty smell. Hope she feels better. ????
Yay for boys in ballet! My older brother was the only male in my dance classes for years–and now he’s an opera singer. Men in the arts!
Wow — so cool!
I have some very precious photos of my oldest son in a toddler performance of the Nutcracker Suite. He was the only boy in the class and so despite the very abridged version, he had about five costume changes.
Haha! Cute.
Yay for ballet AND Angel Muse!
Yes!
I was planning to wear Le Labo Patchouli 24 which is probably the strangest smelling fragrance I own, but while searching for my big-sized decant of it I came across Histories de Perfums Petroleum and thought “That’s just the thing!” So I have it on now pre-shower and will switch later in the day. I had no memory of ever trying it before. Well, it’s good and stinky and smells pretty rubbery. I looked up reviews on Fragrantica and some of them are pretty funny. One person comments that it’s like something you smell right before you go into surgery–Ha ha and right on! I’m not sure I’d want to go around projecting this stuff but the little rose note in it does give it an odd kind of elegance. I’ll touch base later on today after I don the Patch 24.
I find that tarry note pretty addicting!
Twin! :^)
Weird for me… Fruitchouli Flash. One tiny spray and 3 hours later it’s still a peach bomb!!
You smell great. FF was on my list for today.
I’m wearing Dzing!, out of an almost empty decant. I sprayed it lightly, but it still smells of crayons.
I have yet to try Dzing!, although I’m sure I have a sample drifting in The Sample Sea. If it smells like crayons, it would fit into my Cuir Cannage purse with the bubble gum.
It’s really interesting to read what different people get out of Dzing! It’s usually a leather/fur scent on me, with some spices – but other people get very different results. I’d never have guessed crayons.
Isn’t it? On me, it’s a cozy vanilla comfort scent.
Twin! I was planning to wear CB:IHP’s Black March, but I couldn’t get the top out of the dabber vial (boooo!). I grabbed my bottle of Dzing! because I know people who smell it on me think it’s great but weird.
I get gasoline, hay, and an extremely subtle sweetness. I love love love it.
I’ll have to see if I can detect crayons next time I wear it. I personally get the ‘cardboard’ effect some people talk about. It’s so weirdly good!
I’m wearing Smell Bent Fashiony, which is like a saffron leather but it smells to me, especially in the first few minutes, like cherry snowcone syrup. But in a good way.
I can’t remember the last time I had a snow cone..
Maybe this summer I will find one
For a while in high school we’d stop by a Hawaiian Shave Ice every day after school …. so good
Love, love, love Fashiony. I wish I had a full bottle instead of the several travel size decants I picked up at Smell Bent’s last sale. Should have bought it on the first day of the sale, because they were sold out of full bottles by the second.
Is it sold out forever? Hope not!
It was a special edition, made in collaboration with a fashion blog, magazine, or something like that. I hope it will be available when they have the next garage sale, which I think is when they sell the bits and bobs of older (discontinued) fragrances that they have left in stock.
My plan for today was to finish the last drops of my Heeley Sel Marin decant, but when I got there the decant was bare, so instead I’m joining PriscillaE in Dzing!
You smell great!
I am in Jour Parfum/extrait today…much like the EDP and Absolu but deeper and warmer…
And please see below a variation on my own comment I left for the lovely Hajusuuri yesterday re: enabling and finding the perfume community…I liked it so much I am reusing w/ my own permission… 😉
There is a bridge between mainstream perfume and niche/the rabbit hole/other side. Some people stumble upon the bridge on their own, some never find it and others must be gently led.
Be leaders, folks! Happy Friday.
I love your comment She-ra! ????
That’s awesome!
For me, the toll to cross the bridge is so high I try not to cross very often. 😉
Hear hear!
Happy Friday!
I struggled with this challenge….I don’t really have any super weird scents, except for a few Smell Bent samples that I just wasn’t in the mood to attempt.
Sooooooo, I’m going with 3121 by Prince. I smell very masculine, but not really freakish. But Prince himself was freakishly talented, fashion freaky, and just his own freaky self. So I tip my hat to him today! 🙂
You get points in my book-Prince had his own unique style that is for sure.
Prince!
Whenever I need proof this world is capable of awesome, I watch his SuperBowl performance.
Never smelled 3121.
And I bet His Royal Badness himself must have been into perfume! I once read he smelled like lavender…I wonder what his choice was, or maybe it was tailor made for him…(would not be surprised).
I read he smelled like lavender too and I’ve wondered if it was Caldey Island or essential oils.
YES. And I am so sad I never got a bottle. You smell great- guy-ish but in a good way!
I’m wearing Cuir Cannage, which reminds me of a patent leather purse lined in a floral-sprigged fabric I had as a little girl that I thought was the bomb, and in this instance contains bubble gum.
Interesting – I get leather, powder, violets and sex appeal from this one.
I think my nose interprets the ylang ylang in this one as plastic and bubble gum.
I can just picture you with that patent bag. You smell great.
Aw, shucks. Thank you! 😉
Home sick, again. I’ve given in and made an appointment with the doctor this afternoon. Hopefully, it’s just a bad cold, but with my complicated medical history, “persistent, low-grade fever” begins to worry me after a while. 🙁
I feel like I need to shake up this freaky scene and wear Cuir et Champignon, although I’m not sure I can handle musty work gloves, mushrooms and cedar mulch this morning. This scent got so much attention when it was released, and then pfft! Gone!
Gosh, I hope the doctor helps., and you get well soon.
I hope you feel better soon.
Get to feeling better soon!
Good luck with your app’t!
Hope the doctor’s appt went well!
Hope you’re better soon. Cuir et Champignon must have been a thing before I fell down the rabbit hole, because I’ve never heard of it. Of course, I would never have searched for “mushroom perfume” to run across it later.
Well, I was all set to wear Black Vines today, but wasn’t feeling it this morning. So I’m in Traversee du Bosphore, which isn’t all that freaky, but it *is* unusual, so maybe I get half points?
I was going to wear TdB today but my decant had evaporated, boo. It’s plenty freaky to me, apple leather that turns into Turkish delight….I get an urge to smell it a couple times a year.
Interesting how freakiness is in the nose of the beholder (be-smeller?). I was aiming for something that freaks *me* out, which Black Vines does, in a yummy sort of way, but I get that TdB is a weird one. For me, though, it’s a cozy, languid, silk-pajamas kind of scent.
TdB was my second choice for today. I think it is weird, at least, if not full-on freaky.
I really didn’t put enough thought into today’s project. I went with Myths Woman and because it wasn’t freaky enough, I layered it over Smoky Poppy body products. Both are polarizing scents. Probably not office appropriate but at least no one has complained. ????
I love Myths Woman. Daffodils on steroids.
Starting out with my second testing of my not perfect coffee sample, Follow. Visit with some people who work for the city for my site-specific play in the fall…
That’s only moderately freaky, but I assure you I’ll top up with eau du fier later.
J, that really is very reassuring. 😉
What makes Follow less than perfect? And good luck with your play.
SOTD: just a bit of Breath of God from a very old decant from when it was labeled B Never to Busy to Be Beautiful.
On me, this smells like the inside of an old garage on a hot summer day complete with a just-turned-off push lawnmower with blades still covered with clumps of cut grass.
That IS a freaky scent! It is never boring. I have a small 10mL and forget to bust it out. Definitely a perfume to wear for me…and Luca Turin in case we pass on the street ????
Ha! I had totally forgotten that Turin gave it five stars. 🙂
Yes, and it also made his list of Best Strange Fragrances, so I think you get double points today.????
On me, Breath of God smells like God just lit up a Marlboro.
Not what I get at all (mostly incense with a hint of soap), but my SOTD seems to be gone now, so I’ll dab on my solid and see if I can find the cut grass, which is a note I love.
I’m taking a new hire out to lunch today so I’m just wearing Vanille Insensee. I enjoy this scent a lot, but it’s 100% NOT freaky.
I think a freaky scent I might have chosen instead is BPAL’s now-discontinued Bluebeard, which is violet, lavender, white musk, and vetiver. The first time I opened a sample it smelled like stale cigarettes, and it was *strong*. But I was intrigued. I wore it. It lasted for hours and hours. Eventually it morphed into an angry, dark violet with a punch of ozonic white musk, like the air right before and after a major lightning strike. I found the scent so hypnotic I had to buy a whole bottle, though I don’t often wear it out!
A runner up choice would have been NEST’s White Sandalwood, which has a salty, briny aspect that reminds me of decaying seaweed washed up on a beach.
That NEST sounds great. I’m always up for that briny seaweed smell.
I have realized I don’t have much weirdness among my bottles, so I’m relying on samples and decants this week. Today I saved the best for last and went with Bat. The first couple of minutes I thought I kind of smelled like olives, but that settles down pretty quickly into fruit and dirt.
I’m going to be the last on earth to try Zoologist 🙂
Boudicca Wode for me today! Hemlock and opium saccords eemed to fit the bill on paper, but now that I’m wearing it, it’s not nearly as weird as I remember it- the marketing website is probably 5 times weirder. (http://boudiccawode.com) Mostly I smell like a very expensive gin cocktail, I think.

Wode is wonderfully weird. Of course I wanted more hemlock in it. Kidding! I tried it back when it was bluish and stained things. Nice choice!
Smelling like an expensive gin cocktail is a good thing imo! 😀
Oh, I agree! I’m enjoying it quite a bit. : )
All this talk of freaky perfumes has me waxing nostalgic about Black March, my first truly *different* scent sample. Anyone have any thoughts on purchasing the water perfumes vs. the absolutes?
Do you have perfume-eating skin? PES laughs merrily at water perfumes…
No, I don’t generally feel like my skin is especially scent-eating, although I *do* enjoy spritzing with abandon. 🙂
On the other hand, it also gobbles up oils. I’ve yet to find an extrait that lasts more than an hour on me.
Absolute. The water perfumes just don’t last (and I don’t have PES).
Sounds like the consensus. Thanks!
My samples of the water perfumes turned back into water after awhile (i.e. they barely smell like anything), so I’d stick with the absolutes. I love that he offers 2 ml bottles!
Yes, it’s those 2mL bottles I’m eyeing!
DUDE! Just began to place this in my cart, etc, and nearly $16 for shipping?! What the heck!
I will be the lone voice for the water perfumes, but then, I just don’t like oils.
Tell me more! (I still haven’t pulled the trigger due to the ridiculous shipping for even a teensy bottle. . .)
Really, nothing more to say except the water formulas feel less greasy, probably just because you’re putting them over a larger area. I use them almost like a body product or dry oil.
The CHIHP scents, like Demeter, are not generally all that long lasting, and not sure I think there is much difference between water and oil except how much of your body you cover and how oily they feel.
Don’t forget — there is meaning behind the brand name! He is not worried about your sillage or lasting power, I don’t think.
Happy Friday!
1) Made appointments to FINALLY fix the water damaged ceiling and floor from the January storms! The off the cuff estimate was within the parameters of what the insurance company paid me; I will get a more exact work up of the work, and hopefully I can price out the job with insurance settlement.
2) Am in the distinctly unfreaky combo of Aromatic Elixir body wash and Molinard’s Jasmine. I smell and feel quite pretty indeed!
2a)I am even wearing some of NST Fairy Godmother (Hajusuuri)’s very lovely and perfect makeup, which is perfect on me! I have a couple of meetings today and then a dinner date with an old college professor and a college mate of mine- it has been 17 years. WHAT THE BLAZES.
AE body wash? Who knew? I’d love that. Must investigate.
You must, you must!
When you shower with it, keep the bathroom door open so that your home will smell of AE – with a subtle soapy finish.
Ditto!
I’m wearing the wacky but lovable Gucci Rush today.
Always a party with Rush 🙂
I almost wore that!
Ooooh…can’t do Rush. On me it was sweet plastic fruit syrup. Not a scrubber but sooooo not me.
Hello, scent twin!
Waving back at you!
Freaky Frag Friday SOTD = Oriza Legrande Chypre Mousse
On a scale of 1 to 10 for weird / freaky perfumes, this is a 12. Damp earth, mossy, green, mushroomy, roasted chestnut, vetiver…there’s nothing bright about this oerfume but it holds the promise of spring.
What were they thinking?
Who* in their right mind would carry white white luggage? The Tommy Bahama window tabkeau had a tower of white luggage. I get the travel concept but white luggage?
*ok, MAYBE if one travels privately all the time and everyone handling luggage wears white gloves and the luggage doesn’t ever get mingled with the general population.
I often feel that way about white dresses or purses. That doesn’t stop me from buying them, but unfortunately, it does often stop me from wearing/using them.
I do, too. White luggage sounds incredibly elegant. I just about bought a white handbag the other day (until I checked my bank balance.) I have fantasized about a white leather Jonathan Adler sofa for years. I love wearing white, and often do, but I always carry shout wipes and/or a tide pen. The upside is that white fabrics are generally easy to wash. (Unless it’s silk… *side-eyes my stain-covered white silk pillowcases*)
OMG, a white leather sofa!!! I too have always wanted one, but as someone who was a student until a month ago, never had the budget or space for one. And silk pillowcases and sheets have been a dream of mine. Mmmmm.
I don’t have the budget for it either! But I did convert to silk pillowcases when my (curly) hair was long and I was doing everything possible to eliminate frizz. It does make a big difference, and my H wanted one for his pillow, so now we both use them. But I can’t seem to get the stains out 🙁
Silk eliminates frizz?!?! Ok, silk pillowcases are now high on the to-purchase list!
OxiClean. If stains are stubborn, presoak. Switched from washing all white bed linens, towels, etc from bleach to OxiClean, and the laundry turns out whiter. It’s very soapy, though, so any OxiClean loads get put through a 2nd rinse cycle.
White clothing, accessories, and furniture are lovely if you have a good cleaner and/ or can replace them when necessary. A book group member spilled red wine on a beautiful white embroidered upholstered chair and light Persian rug and was horrified. But we all deduced that in some circles, this must happen with regularity. Fortunately, the hostess found a trusted professional who was confident about restoring the pieces.
If your furniture is finished with that stain repellent stuff, red wine will roll right off it. I witnessed this when a friend dumped her wine on my mom’s (fabric) sofa. No damage done!
Mushroomy, you say? Think I may pass on sniffing that one…
White luggage is definitely not meant for the kind of traveling I do! ????
Maybe the white luggage is for those who replace their luggage every year, or possibly every season. The same people who think a $600 perfume must be four times as good as a $150 perfume.
SOTD and weird perfume #5 is “Petroleum” from Histoire des Parfums.
Top: bergamot, oud and aldehydes;
Mid: amber and rose;
Base: musk, patchouli, civet and leather.
This is more of a familiar-but-with-a-twist perfume than an out-and-out weird one. The petrol is dialled down to the same levels as the rose and amber.
The other Mr Koenigsberg and I were looking at apartments in Málaga today. Found one that is a good match from every practical and logical point of view, but I am somehow not feeling it. I’m minded to hold out for something I love – what do you guys think?
For me it’s mandatory that home = love, but then I’m a Cancer – ymmv ;-).
Hold out for love. It will happen sooner than you think. That sounds like a fortune cookie thing, but having a place that you love is such an extraordinary high. I love love love my house with its forest of Oak trees out back and deck in the back that every room on the first floor has French doors that open onto it… And the quiet street, and Bougainvillea climbing up the front… Find that place for you!
Well for the opposite point of view I bought my house for practical reasons and was really afraid I’d regret it but have since come to love it passionately.
You will instantly feel it when you find it. Hold out, or you will always be second guessing yourself.
Go back and take another look. I tend to agree with Bastet, being someone who’s all about practicality and logic. Maybe on your return visit you can pinpoint what’s leading you to hesitate – or maybe it wasn’t the apartment at all but something else that was nagging at you when you were there.
I’m really glad I held out for something I love- I lived in an extended stay hotel room for three extra months rather than move into any of the serviceable, practical apartments I toured when I was moving and I love it more than anything.
I think you should try to articulate why you’re not feeling it- maybe you’d love it if you rethought the layout or redid the bathroom?
KellyC, I’m a huge fan of iris but to paraphrase Lucas from Chemist in the Bottle, ISM smells like boiled carrots and tombstones on me. If that note is new to you, Robin did a wonderful series according to season devoted to it.
Oh good heavens, what did I do here?
You made me laugh is what you did 🙂
In an ideal world, I’d go for what my heart and soul are telling me. In the real world, I’d balance that with practicality. Usually the former wins.
Late to the party but spent the morning in Sarrasins in all of it’s indolic, leathery jasmine goodness. That is one purchase that I don’t regret one bit. I think that I will apply vintage Bal since it’s freaky to a lot of normal people. People who are not used to a lot of skank in a perfume.
“Freaky to normal people” made me laugh!
Hello from America, my dear NSTers! I moved back to CA on Tuesday, and am now comfortably installed in a becatted apartment. My freaky SOTD is OO Seattle Chocolate, which is chocolate and pine and Indian fried foods (toasted caraway? oil vapor?) on my skin.
Already missing the ability to walk two minutes to the nearest bakery to get an excellent 1€ croissant. Here in Silicon Valley, I’d have to bike three miles to get a mediocre $4 croissant. Sigh.
Hey, welcome to the West! May your dams not runneth over! 😉
(And you are 100% correct about the state of pastries. There are some lovely bakeries to be found in the States, but it takes some footwork to find them. My stepmother was a baker and made one of the best baguettes to be had, but when she left baking, I lost my source.)
Ugh. I’ve taken to poking the bread at supermarket bakeries to see if it crunches. No one has glared at me yet, but I feel this may be just a matter of time.
I hear you on the baked goods. I live in Seattle where there is a lot of fantastic bread, very good pastries at a few places, but no good croissants. It’s really frustrating. Also lots of fake baguettes – not sure what is up with that. I bought one the other day that looked promising, but turned out to be Italian-style, and not at all baguette-like.
Welcome home!
On the plus side, I am willing to bet everything that the Mexican food is better in CA than in France 🙂
EVERY kind of food is better in CA than in France except for French food (and, in Toulouse, thanks to our proximity to the border, Spanish food). I’ve already indulged in Chinese dumplings, Korean soft tofu soup, and tamales. It’s been suggested to me that I acquaint myself with Mexican pastries.
My love of mexican pastries is more about nostalgia than flavor. But maybe you can find some that are actually made with lard.
One of my Mexican-American students brought me the most wonderful homemade bun a few months ago-it tasted of honey and lard and some sort of dark flour (whole wheat?). I asked him what was in it, and he said he didn’t know–Grandma always makes them when she visits!
Seattle Chocolate is such an interesting perfume. I never would have thought that chocolate and evergreen would work so well together, but it does!
Many years ago I also lived in France, and now I live in Seattle. I dearly miss French bread and pastries as well. Alors….
Welcome back to the US!
I almost went for Manoumalia, like many of NSTers today. But in the end I am in SL Muscs Koublai Khan. I smell like a sweaty horse! I don’t always work up the nerve to wear this perfume, even though I love it and I know a lot of people don’t perceive the dirty note that way I do. Funnily enough, my cat hates almost all of my perfumes, but loves this one. He must “get” it too.
Love MKK! You smell mahvelous, and kitty approved. My cat has two scents she yowls about–MKK and Bal a Versailles. Be well.
Riiiight, so Bal a Versailles as well? I must try it. Do you have the vintage version?
I’m unsure of the vintage. I got it in a swap. It’s the EdT not the more rare EdP that people rave about. It’s plenty musky/civet-y with chewy florals in the mid range for me. certainly worth seeking if you love civet and vintage smelling perfume.
Vintage Bal is the only way to go when wearing it. The current formulation sucks because it’s been neutered and doesn’t smell good.
I only have a sample of MKK, or it would have been perfect, but I get sheep instead of horse. Hope you enjoyed it today. I think people mostly don’t notice perfume, even when it feels big on us.
I was all set to wear Womanity this AM, but I was in a rush and it appears I’ve stored it with my summer scents. No idea why. So I grabbed the first thing that came to hand, which is only freaky in its absolute unfreakiness–Bvlgari pour femme.
Anyone else seeing double?
*eyes cross*
Maybe if we look at it long enough, it becomes 3D?
*pouf*
A couple of options for today:
Chypre Mousse, Parfums Quartana Hemlock- green leaves, vanilla, and vinyl, Majda Bekkali Fusion Sacree-celery/rhubarb sauteed in butter with a dash of vanilla.
Ultimately went with L’Artisan Amour Nocturne: hot metal, gunpowder, milky caramel, with a dash of dill. I have to be feeling tip-top for this one as one millimeter off center and this can be super nauseating. Fortunately it fades pretty fast as a whole day of that smell would be too much. But otherwise, it smells great ????
That whole series is freaky! It’s funny how many perfumistas turned to these for today’s project. Duchaufour must have been channeling the Addams Family. I’ve got Memoir Woman on one hand, Onde Sensuelle on the other. Fortunately, I don’t work Fridays! I can be alone with my strange perfumes.
Ha! Now I want to scent all the members of the Addams family. Yeah, I had to be discreet with this one for work. Enjoy testing your lovelies!
Sometimes that caramelic (I just made a word up there, did you notice?) reads a bit coconutty to my nose and then I have to scrub it, but I might have to wear it tomorrow now that you’ve mentioned it…
That seems like a perfectly legitimate word! Huh. I think I’m mostly distracted by the metal and that dill. Does anyone else smell dill in this?
I love Amour Nocturne. I wore it tons this winter. But it has a very big presence, so I can see how it might be a bit much sometimes. That said, I got a sample of it a few summers ago, wore it lots that summer and have pulled it out every summer since. Which sounds really crazy, even to me.
It also has massive sillage on me that lasts all the way through, and is one of the longest-wearing scents I own. Most perfumes barely make it past the 2-hour mark on me. Amour Nocturne does me a good 8 hours.
Omg, the thought of this one in the summer. I have a decant and have never sprayed it on, which is maybe why it fizzles out relatively quickly on my scent glue skin. My cats are afraid of this one! It’s so funny to watch their reaction to it.
I considered MKK, TC, and Chypre Mousse today but I don’t find them very freaky, so I went with an odd combination of notes that somehow work beautifully together–Mistral Patchouli.
Mistral Patchouli smells like black peppercorns to me. Do you get that at all?
That’s ALL it smelled like to me, but I’m anosmic to the musk in most of their early releases.
I like that one 🙂
I decided that Frankfurt Kitchen (by Social Creatures) is my most different scent, so I am now looking for the bottle so that I can put some on. It has coffee, dried fruit and a slight metallic note (not too strong, fortunately).
Wow, forgot all about that one! That brand just disappeared.
Nothing too freaky here- maybe just a little quirky. Demeter Gingerale. It smells like ginger ale – so fizzy and fun!
Yum. I may go put some on tonight…
Yeah, I got nothin’ today.
I considered wearing my darling Memoir Woman, but my stomach was all like “Um, nope,” so I am actually unscented. Just can’t deal with this particular project on this particular day. I also considered Tableau de Parfums (Tauer) Loretta, which is a dang split-personality FREAKFEST of grape tuberose patchouli, but digestive system nixed that one as well.
Might dig up my vintage Emeraude later for comfort, if the tummy settles down.
I remember Loretta, I was sent a preview sample. It was very strange, sort of Twin Peaks Retro, and matched the character in the movie quite well. I would not wear it while suffering from a wonky tummy, that’s for sure.
I hope you feel better.
I hope you feel better soon! I think you mentioned earlier this week that you felt queasy too…? For me, I’d rather deal with pain than nausea, there’s nothing worse…so I’m sending good thoughts your way.
Oh no, nausea is the worst. Hope you are well soon.
I was planning on Andrea Maack’s Coven, which has a rather wierd opening, but my beloved is not keen on it and we’ll be an enclosed space for some time today. We’re going to his mother’s place for the weekend to celebrate his 60th birthday, which is a four drive.
So I’ll be wearing Myrrhe et Délires, definitely not wierd to my nose and hopefully pleasant company in the car.
I thought about that one for today, also, but I don’t find it that weird actually. At least less strange than the name would imply. I love that one on warm summer eves.
Happy Birthday to your beloved!
My boy got some sort of virosis and I’m taig care of him, so can’t go all freaky with Kerosene Black Vines as planned. Wearing Lush Kharma instead.
Hope he feels better soon!
Poor little man. I hope he feels better soon.
You smell very nice, and I suspect that patchouli and orange are just the things to scare away a virus.
I think this week’s challenge was made for me. I love reading people’s choices. I think I will carry this theme all weekend. My weirdest is Onda EdP. The passion fruit atop coriander and vetiver makes it much more difficult than the extrait. I love it, but wear it when I’m not out much in general population as it garners weird responses. It makes me feel like a passionate wild woman.
I wore that one last Sunday. I wasn’t intentionally gearing up for weird week, but it wasn’t a bad segué. :^)
I have Onda EdP. I love and don’t find it weird at all but it is very
melancholy.
Too busy this week even to read comments. So sad. I must get my priorities in order. I hope everyone is doing ok and feeling freaky in a good way. I am wearing Norne, which I don’t find that weird, just very intense. I would have gone for Jeke but thought I should save it for booze Friday!
Sorry you’re so busy!
Hi! Late to the party here as well–and wearing Byredo M/Mink, my favorite freaky scent. With a spritz of Ostara, because I needed to smell Ostara today.
The Fragrantica reviews for this one are a hoot! :^)
Today I am sampling Borneo 1834, beautiful but odd. I wish I had a bell jar of this. Need to find someone going to Paris who can bring it back for me.
No need for Paris! Aedus in New York now carries the bell jars and they have Borneo. Of course it’s listed at $300, but I’m not sure Paris would be any cheaper.
Paris is a LOT cheaper for the SL bell jars. A compromise is to hire Suzan at shopfranceinc.com; she buys in France, and brings the items back here. Her bell jar price is about midway between the France price and US price — I think it’s around $240, but check with her. She got me my bell jar of De Profundis.
I’ve bought lots of stuff from her ebay store, but never had her mule for me. Good to know!
You smell fab! Love that one.
I did the best I could for Let Your Freak Flag Fly Friday: I’m in Louis Vuitton Mille Feux because I find the idea of combining raspberry and leather pretty weird.
Make the world a little more freaky-smelling today and enjoy your Friday, NSTers!
raspberry and leather does sound odd
Right? But it smells nice. It’s not like LV would be likely to target luxury buyers with something genuinely strange-smelling.
I think it must smell wonderful.
I think it’s very wearable. I might have to try to score another sample after this one runs out.
I thought about Traversee du Bosphore, because to me it smells like cotton candy and leather, but it was a little warm here for it.
I agree with Womanity and Gucci Rush as being freaky. I nominate a men’s: Givenchy Very Irresistible. Upon first sniff I thought it smelled like a tomato patch. It did grow on me though and it especially suited swarthy-complected men.
Now I’m intrigued because I want to smell like a tomato patch.
Came back from vacation to find that my cat apparently has a kidney infection and was severely dehydrated and emaciated. She got fluids and antibiotics yesterday and is much perkier but she’s peed on my bed twice in the last 24hours. Not up to dealing with a freaky scent at the moment so I’m in Guerlain French Kiss which I bought a full bottle of yesterday to celebrate 8 years cancer free.
Oh, poor kitty! And your poor bed! In case you need it, I swear by Nature’s Miracle to clean up cat pee in furniture. My neurotic fuzzy bundle of joy went through a peeing on the sofa phase, and it has saved my leather sofa! Not even a whiff on a warm day.
Second on Nature’s Miracle. That stuff is …..well named.
Nature’s Miracle was put to use this morning…..
Sorry the kitty’s not well, hope she’s better soon.
Congratulations on your milestone!
Sorry about your kitty.
Congrats on your 8 years!???? Celebration is in order!
Congratulations on your 8 years! I hope your kitty recovers soon.
Congratulations! And another vote for Nature’s Miracle, if you can still find it.
Poor kitty! Hope she feels better soon. And massive congrats on your personal milestone, 8 years!
You smell great and congratulations on being cancer-free!
Congratulations on your anniversary (and your celebratory perfume), and best wishes to your cat.
I’m wearing Black by Bulgari. Not so freaky to me because I really like the initial rubber hit upside the head. But I had brunch with a friend this morning and after our warm greeting she asks, “why do you smell like an old tire?” LOL
By the end of our meal it had mellowed out and she then admitted she liked it, but not that first whiff.
Great comment by your friend! I can’t wait to try this one…
My local BonTon department store still has a tester of this and one lone bottle in the case. I am sooo tempted every time I’m there.
I think you smell lovely.
You may want to check out the online discounters for probably a better price.
Yes, I’m sure you’re right….but, I have thought about trying to haggle with the SA for the tester since they’re down to two bottles and the tester is still almost full.
Why? “Because I want to!” ???? You smell great.
Slightly odd SOTD = Gucci Rush, the original, from a sample. I smell a little bit like warm stereo components, a bit of solvent, and a hint of floral perfume. It goes surprisingly well with a rose body butter.
Which rose body butter are you using?
Pacifica’s Persian Rose.
Lol about the stereo components. You are so right! I do love Rush so…
Le Labo Bergamote 22 today. To me the only thing odd about this fragrance is that L.T. only gives it two stars.
Thank you to all the well wishers yesterday. It has been quite some time since I’ve flown and all your kind words helped to calm some of my pre-flight jitters.
This morning I woke to blue skies, sun and a pair of sand hill cranes and their two fuzzy, adorable chicks out my window.
Happy Friday NST! It’s almost happy hour!????
How cute! Enjoy your visit!
You smell great!
My oddest fragrances are MFK Absolue Pour le Soir and Imaginary Authors A City on Fire. However, I could not wear either one of them to work so I went with Zoologist Hummingbird…it’s not odd but it’s very different from anything else I have or have smelled.
I really should break out my discovery set!
75 degrees and sunny. Carnal Flower it is!
Oh, so green with envy right now! You smell wonderful!
I generally love odd scents and have a lot of them. I love both smelling weird and like no one else and smelling traditionally great in equal measures. If I knew where my Phoenicia samples were when I was selecting my SOTD this morning, I could have chosen any one of them. Other options were Bat and Aftelier Cuir de Gardenia. But I settled on Cadavre Exquis by Bruno Fazzolari and Antonio Garodani (sp?). This is a strange mix of chocolate, patchouli, curry and fenugreek, dried fruits, and more. And I adore it! Plus I think it is more of a cold weather perfume, so I want to make sure to get plenty of wearings in before spring.
Spring, shming! Methinks it’s not happening this year.
Do you remember spring about 6 years ago when it was in the 30s & 40s and windy as F all through April and May? I suspect that’s what we’re in for. And probably another 6-week summer, just like last year.
We had one of our worst snow storms last year in may.
Oh no! That sounds miserable. I’ve only lived in Seattle for four years, so I missed out on that experience. I’m still going to try to be optimistic and hold out for a real spring.
Just spritzed my sample of Panorama from Olfactive Studios for it’s wasabi accord. Definitely wasabi…realistic enough to make my nose wrinkle LOL.
IAt least it didn’t make your eyes water.
True! Plus will teach me not to spritz new scents too freely LOL.
Travelling so nothing freaky just Hanbury and now 24 Faubourg to carry me thorough the trip.
Oooh 24 Faubourg. You smell good 🙂
I’m surprised that no one else has chosen my freaky scent of the day: Niki de Saint Phalle. A power chypre with a standout note of artemisia is just about my level of freakiness.
I was going to wear Niki but the temps plummeted. It’s a hot weather scent for me so I found something else.
I can see not wanting to wear this one in cold weather. It does bloom so well in the heat!
Ooh ooh, I just retried the JM Bloomsbury line and the one that stood out was Leather and Artemisia. I actually don’t know what artemisia smells like but apparently I like it.
Well, I’ll just have to make the trek to Nordstrom to try these! This does sound promising.
Hi! I’m new here, but a major fragrance enthusiast. Nice to meet all of you!
I’m wearing Hermes Eau des Merveilles. Not too freaky, but I’m still trying to decide how I feel about the way it smells on me!
Hello and welcome! It’s always nice to see a post from someone new. I really enjoy EdM but prefer to wear it during hot weather. You smell great!
Ditto on all this!
Welcome, and no need to rush into freaky!
Welcome! You smell nice!
Hello! I hope you decide EdM works for you!
Hello! Plenty of time to find freaky in your perfume. I hope you find lots of wonderful things to smell in the meantime.
Scent cousins–I’m in Eau Claire des Merveilles. I think they’re both kind of weird.
Inexcusably late today. SOTD was Orchiee Vanille, which is as far from freaky as a perfume can get. However, my decant has turned a very unbecoming and freaky shade of brown, so in my book, that counts ????
Thanks for the heads up on Natures Miracle. I just saw the carpet shampoo on Amazon, which is perfect timing because I was wanting to steam clean my carpet before I leave at the end of the month. The things you learn by visiting NST are priceless!
My Pacifica Island Vanilla turned very dark.
I looked through my bottles, and couldn’t find anything particularly freaky. I went with a travel spray of Hermes Eau Claire des Merveilles, which I got in a swap. I do find it very odd. It has that saltiness that Eau de Merveilles has, and its elusiveness. It seems to be gone, but I expect that as soon as I really give up on it, it’ll pop up for a moment. I suspect that I can’t actually smell it properly–I don’t get any sweetness at all–but it doesn’t disappear completely for three or four hours, at least. I don’t know that I really enjoy wearing it, but it is certainly interesting–powdery, salty, ghostly.
