Whoa. I can’t believe Hermes would put out ANYTHING that cheap, let alone a parfum! I’m actually curious to see how this pulls off; Ellena + Density = Craziness for the whole family.

I didn’t actually enjoy wearing the ED… T? But this could be nice. And I love the bottle so.

I was surprised at the price too!

Get me now to the nearest Hermes boutique! I sure hope this ready and waiting for me when I’m in NYC in just over a week.

    Can you hear me panting?

yes, and it’s fogging up the inside of my computer screen, so cut it out
So you’re planning some perfume shopping while in NYC? What all are you looking for?? (other than the Hermes ….although, the Hermes boutique alone would do some serious damage….all those Hermessences!!!! Goodness, now I’m panting too!) )

        Oh Daisy…indeed I am!

I’ve got a serious plan that includes Enfleurage, Patyka, Diptyque, Caron, Bendel’s, Aedes, SpaceNK, Lafco, Bigelow, and whatever else I can manage!

        Hermes as well!

Do report back if it is! Very interested in this one.

Mmm, I feel an evil plot forming. I can’t see my husband wearing perfume, so I virtuously buy it for him and when he ignores it, I swoop in and claim it for myself.

Can’t wait to get my hands on this! Terre d’Hermes is the one scent my husband, my son and I all wear and love, but I’ve always wished it could last longer.

I adore it. Luckily my husband does not, more for me.

that’s right! and if he loves you as much as he says he does; he’ll even INSIST that you keep the bottle on YOUR dressing table… or, ya know, if he ‘knows what’s good for him’ he will.

I sniffed this yesterday, and to be honest, I wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference between the Parfum and the EdT or whatever it was before. I expected a tiny bottle, so the 50ml size was a bit of a surprise. It’s a spray, which also takes away from that dab-it-on-my-preciousss vibe you get from, say, a Chanel extract. I’d be interested to know what the concentration actually is. I did notice that the Parfum lasted a lot longer and stayed more true to the opening than the original.

Thanks very much for your review :)

Good to know! I don’t have trouble with the original lasting, but I’d love to smell/try just for information’s sake.

    • Robin
      Posted on 12 August 2009

Oh, thank you Nina! If it’s not that different, I might not care: I’m pretty happy with the EdT.

  8. Posted on 12 August 2009

I’ve tested this twice on my arm in the past week and find it smells no different and I *genuinely* think it doesn’t last any longer than the EDT. It stays closer to the skin also. So basically it seems like they’re charging more money for a fragrance that doesn’t project and doesn’t persist anymore than the original. I’m not a Terre d’Hermes hater by the way, this is my honest opinion!

    • Robin
      Posted on 12 August 2009

You know, I’m perfect happy with the EdT. Unless this *smells* better, I’m not interested.

  9. Posted on 12 August 2009

Well I couldn’t detect any noticeable difference in the smell. Perhaps it’s tiny bit less “bitter” than the EDT, but even on that I’m not sure. I’ll personally be sticking with the EDT, as I genuinely feel it projects better. I don’t want to have to sniff my arm everytime I want to smell it. With the EDT, I get nice lttle “wafts” of it for hours. With the EDP, I got nothing unless I purposely tried to smell it.

  10. Posted on 12 August 2009

I know that the definition of perfume (versus cologne, EDT, EDP, or what have you) centres on its concentration and composition, but, like a bunch of other people here, when I think of perfume, I think of 1) tiny bottles that are 2) usually snazzier than their larger siblings, and 3) have a stopper you can use to dab on the contents. I think an extrait should seem special, somehow, so I’m always disappointed when a company calls something “perfume” and then puts it in a big old spray bottle, even if it technically has a perfume’s strength and composition. I believe (someone correct me if I’m wrong) Clinique does this with all its women’s scents, and so does Estee Lauder with White Linen (though it’s careful to note that although they call it a “parfum spray” it “has the concentration of an Eau de Parfum”).

Sorry to ramble. I was expecting Terre D’Hermes to come in a smart little half-ounce bottle, and I’m disappointed to see that it doesn’t look significantly different from the EDT, and even more so to hear that it doesn’t smell that much different, either. Why did they even bother?

    • Rick
      Posted on 12 August 2009

And it’s going to come in a 200 ml bottle! Can you imagine a 200 ml bottle of Chanel No. 5?

    • Robin
      Posted on 12 August 2009

My guess: the feeling is that you can’t sell extrait to men otherwise.

      • Robin
        Posted on 12 August 2009

Probably wasn’t clear: I meant if it wasn’t a spray.

        • Posted on 12 August 2009

I think you’re absolutely right. Even an EDP is kind of a tough sell to most men, I would think, though some companies (such as Boucheron, bless ‘em) keep trying (and they got it right: Boucheron Pour Homme is a drastically different animal in the EDP than in the EDT, a big rich chypre versus a citrus fougere). The only other company that regularly tries to vend perfume to men is Clive Christian, and that’s a whole different market–one with a whole lot of money and presumably elevated tastes to match. (And even CC vends its perfume for men in a 50-mL spray, although you can buy it in a 30-mL stoppered bottle as well.)

          • Robin
            Posted on 12 August 2009

And my (snarky) guess is that much of the CC output is purchased as gifts anyway, to impress, so doesn’t necessarily mean any sort of elevated tastes other than tastes in expensive packaging.

they clearly wanna say “Eau De Parfum”, not “Parfume”, right?

    • Robin
      Posted on 12 August 2009

Not sure if I understand the question, but it is supposed to be Parfum (extrait) and not Eau de Parfum.

      • prism
        Posted on 12 August 2009

parfum extrait? in 200ml? for less than 500 bucks? no freaking way! lol. the other extraits from Hermes cost several hundred dollars for 5 – 7.5ml!

        • Robin
          Posted on 12 August 2009

Going to take a wild guess that the ingredients here are not so expensive, and also that given that it’s a spray, it isn’t nearly as strong as many of the extraits for women.

    Posted on 12 August 2009

I have a sneaking suspicion that they probably know how many women wear Terre and are stealth marketing this to us.

  13. Posted on 12 August 2009

As a huge fan of Ellena I tried several times to get into the Terre hype. I did not get it. With the new “extrait” – it is perfume they say on COSMOTY! I hoped there might be a difference (like Chanel).

My BF wears apŕes la Mousson, which he willingly shares with me:-) I guess we are just not the “Earth” couple. I am gemini and he is aquarius, maybe that’s why?!

I am very keen to try it though. Might even give the regional DOUGLAS ago for that.

  14. Posted on 12 August 2009

Here’s a discussion on POL about the extrait.

This smells absolutely wonderful! Love it even more than the original.

It doesn’t seem to wear like a traditional parfum though – so-so lasting power and average sillage on my skin. Still very much a JCE fragrance.
