Paris Hilton Siren ~ new perfume

Paris Hilton Siren fragranceParis Hilton will launch Siren, her sixth fragrance for women, in July. Hilton noted that she “felt like Ariel from The Little Mermaid” during the photo shoot for the ad.

Siren was developed by perfumer Honorine Blanc. The fragrance notes feature mandarin, apricot nectar, frangipani, honeysuckle, coconut orchid, water lily, vanilla beans, sandalwood and creamy musk.

Paris Hilton Siren will be available in 50 ($45) and 100 ($55) ml Eau de Parfum and in matching body products. The bottle design is meant to evoke a mermaid’s tail.

The fragrance notes don’t sound that bad. But then, it’s Paris Hilton, so that doesn’t bode well. (Although, I did buy Heiress, so clearly my standards aren’t as high as I think they are.)

I don’t think that is usually so much the notes, but the execution that makes them so bad. I’ve tried to avoid the Paris Hiltons as much as possible, but the ones that I have smelled have smelled cheap to me.

Just hoping it isn’t aquatic…but it probably is.

Ariel is probably a better reference…sirens are bird-women, not mermaids, although a common confusion. They’re closer to harpies!
Of course Paris can laugh all the way to bank…

Quite so…what does she care, LOL?

    • Posted on 22 June 2009

It depends on whose mythology you’re following, and when. To the Romans, the Sirens were the daughters of the sea-god Phorcys, who did have a fish tail, and in later Greek mythology the word was used interchangeably for fish-women or bird-women.

I’m sorry, did you say sirens are closer to harpies, or Paris Hilton is closer to a harpie?

      Ok, I’ll shut up now.

LOLOL!!!! whichever flavor of mythology you prefer…Sirens were something to be avoided….

That ad defies description- it’s like a bad romance cover mated with with a bad science fiction cover producing Paris the Mermaid…

      Yes! It’s perfect.

The bottle looks nice; It’s without doubt the best one from the PH line & the notes sound nice… I’ll try it out on my next US holiday. (I’ve got a long list of perfumes to try; forget Seaworld and Universal Studios; take me to Macy*s, Perfumania and Sephora).

But the ad campaign? No, just no. It makes Fairy Dust look sophisticated.

    • Robin
      Posted on 22 June 2009

Can’t argue with that…Sea World & Universal Studios don’t appeal to me either ;-)

Amanda, make sure you also make a trip to Saks Fifth Avenue, which has a more sophisticated range, and Aedas Venustas in the Village where you can sample niche perfumes and get samples!

Not sure why but Fairy Dust didn’t actually come out in the UK, so not sure if this one will. Wish they’d bring out the Jessica Simpson ones here too!

Should be soon, they just got a new UK distributor.

Fairy Dust is sold on this UK site, almost half price:

I’ve bought things here before and haven’t had any problems with my orders.

Just double checked; they also sell Jessica simpson. You can get the 30ml for £16 :)

Sarah; If you send me a postal address (to malibumands@msn.com), you can have my bottle (it’s 100ml and just under half full).

I bought it on impulse on holiday last year, and don’t wear it.

Hi Amanda thanks for very kind offer! I actually did buy Fairy Dust myself (ebay, lol) before smelling it and then realised I didn’t like it, so swapped it on MUA!….I’d assumed I’d love it because I really CanCan is one of my favourites! thanks anyway though!
I know what you mean about trips to America and perfume: Macys is my idea of heaven!
I’m definitely going to smell Siren before purchasing it, ha!
Will have a look at that website now :-)

But, weren’t the sirens bad? Didn’t the sing to the sailors and all the other people in ships and the singing was so enchanting, the men were under a spell. The men got xloser to the singing since they were under a spell, and when they got to the sirens the sirens ate them or killed them? That’s what I remember

    • Amanda
      Posted on 22 June 2009

I’m not sure; I think they drowned them?

      • Daisy
        Posted on 23 June 2009

the ship would be crushed on the rocks around the island and they’d drown.

    • Robin
      Posted on 22 June 2009

Yes, but presumably many women hope their perfume will put men under a spell, right?

    • miss kitty v.

BTW, i’m not a serial killer. I just realized that it could sound that way. That was just me being silly. I’ll shut up now. Really.

    Posted on 22 June 2009

Funny, but she really doesn’t bother me. At all. Heiresses are as old as the concept of money, and no reason she shouldn’t be out there *doing something* rather than *just* lounging around spending money “discreetly out of the public eye.” She’ll probably end up being a revered philanthropist. See Brooke Astor or Doris Duke… I guess the ad doesn’t bother me either.

Anyway, I’d be curious to smell it; I enjoy when a coworker wears the original Paris Hilton, but the sample I had of Fairy Dust was one of the cheapest, most vial things I ever smelled.

    • Amanda
      Posted on 22 June 2009

I enjoy her self named one and Can Can.
I hope this one isn’t Fairy Dust; The Revenge…

    • Joe

Er… most vile, I mean. Most vile vial.

    • Robin

I liked Heiress because it smelled like Mr. Bubble. I know that’s not a ringing endorsement.

Mr. Bubble! LOL I never sniffed heiress.

Oh no, not another one! Will this woman never stop? On the other hand, although this doesn’t appeal as a fragrance, it sounds like the description of a yummy dessert in a very fancy restaurant…

  12. APassionateJourney

Oh, she won’t be stopping anytime soon. She signed another 5 fragrance deal with Parlux. Her fragrances still sell very well.

Is this thing serious? Is SHE serious?? What’s her target – 13 years olds, or even pre-teens? If I would ever have to choose between making piles of money via placing myself in this picture and living in poverty, I take starving with dignity than laughed-at but felt-like ARIEL!

Ariel would never shoot a pornographic movie of herself having sex on the Internet. It must be nice to have money. You can do whatever you damn well please. So why do it on the cheap? The video was her claim to fame. I just can’t see adding to her wealth. Maybe that makes me a bad person. But she has became a role model for little girls and I think it’s a shame.

    • Robin
      Posted on 26 June 2009

Don’t know if I agree that the video was her claim to fame…I mean, lots of people have done the same and it hasn’t made them famous, right? She was already famous. Agree it’s a shame if she’s anybody’s role model though.

  22. alotofscents
    Posted on 28 June 2009

She is! There was a big controversy about it. The video was the first time I’d heard of her. What did she do before that?

    • Robin
      Posted on 28 June 2009

She was famous for being rich! Seriously, as near as I can tell that’s still mostly what she’s famous for.

Parlux is slippin’ on their Pimpin’. It’s July 1st and I haven’t seen Siren or Fancy Love on ebay. I saw a small thingy of Fancy love, but not a bottle

    • Robin

Did they promise July 1? I didn’t know.

  24. APassionateJourney
    Posted on 1 July 2009

Well, they didn’t promise July 1st, but usually we’d see at least a small bottle or a tester bottle on Ebay before the month it debuts.

  25. APassionateJourney
    Posted on 4 July 2009

I smelled it yesterday. Where do I start….

First of all, the bottle feels like a plastic water bottle! It isn’t even GLASS! Second of all, and here is the shocker, it smells EXACTLY LIKE VIVA LA JUICY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fairy Dust smelled like Juicy Couture, and THIS ONE SMELLS LIKE VIVA LA JUICY! It’s just A LOT LIGHTER! I can’t believe her. That being said, this is her best smelling fragrance

    • Robin
      Posted on 13 July 2009

Well, that’s one way to do it: copy other scents. But have to say I don’t think Fairy Dust was even close to as good as the original Juicy Couture!

  26. jonr951
    Posted on 12 July 2009

i got to test this yesterday at macys and it is just a lighter cheaper version of Viva La Juicy. Id say it is her best yet but it is just another copy like fairy dust was of the original Juicy. O well. i wasnt expecting much from her anyways. im not liking the bottle either. but i have to say my much older mom and aunt tested it too and they both really liked it! a first from them when it comes to miss Hilton.

    • Robin
      Posted on 13 July 2009

I’ll have to run over to Macy’s & give it a sniff, thanks!

  27. APassionateJourney
    Posted on 13 July 2009

Ok, I felt the bottle again, and while it isn’t plastic, for glass it feels VERY light. I’m not sure how to explain it. It feels like if I drop it it will break, but it feels very light and not as heavy as a full glass bottle would be in that sized bottle
