Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aoud de Nuit fragranceComptoir Sud Pacifique Nomaoud fragrance

Comptoir Sud Pacifique has launched the Voyages to the Orient collection, a new set of fragrances in their Eaux de Voyage line:

Aoud de Nuit (shown above left) ~ “A sensual and captivating nectar revealing the magic of the East thanks to an armful of precious woods and vibrating spices wrapped up with musk and vanilla, sustained by a pinch of warm caramel”, with notes of bergamot, blackcurrant, black rose, iris, vanilla, cardamom, saffron, cedar, caramel, patchouli, sandalwood, oud, tonka bean, musk and animalic accord.

Aouda ~ “The traditionally woody aspects of Oud has been reinforced by adding natural Patchouli and Moroccan cedar wood oil. To this base, we have incorporated a floral top note highlighted by Rose and Egyptian Geranium oil. The heart of Aouda has been exalted with such sensual ingredients as Tolu Balsarome, Amyrs, Myrrhe and Copahu.” Additional notes include chamomile and niaouli (from the same botanical family as tea tree).

Nomaoud (shown above right) ~ “An intense and captivating perfume which is vibrating thanks to powerful spicy woody notes sublimated by purple rose and cistus and wrapped up with black musk, leather and warm amber leaving a mysterious and unforgettable trail.” Also features saffron, ylang ylang, cedar, cashmeran, oud, amyris, sandalwood and black musk.

Oud Intense ~ “Come to travel in the East with this rich and subtle perfume composed with delicate floral scents, typical and precious woody and amber notes, that give a perfect exhilarating harmony”, with notes of blackcurrant, lemon, rose, patchouli, amber, cedar, pine needles and musk.

Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aoud de Nuit, Aouda, Nomaoud & Oud Intense are available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum. (via comptoir-sud-pacifique)

these actually sound great. don’t know about all the “vibrating” going on in them, but it’s better than the super sweet stuff they’ve been releasing the past few years.

it seems that oud is definitely the new pink pepper.

Yes, seems like CSP is trying to expand into other arenas lately.

I love woods and spices, but isn’t it the wrong time of year to be launching these? I’ve been searching for a new spring scent that’s NOT heavily wooded or spicy.

My thoughts exactly. These seem more like cold weather fragrances to me. Time to go floral for summer (assuming that we will ever get summer here in the midwest.)

Hard to say…if you read the notes for CSP Gouverneur, for instance, it sounds heavy, but it doesn’t wear heavy at all. I’d like to try these, at any rate.

      • Posted on 21 April 2009

I just received a bottle of Gouverneur that I ordered for my husband’s June birthday. Based on our recent sampling experience, I’d say that it’s a year-round fragrance. Nice!

          Posted on 21 April 2009

Exactly: you could wear it in hot weather easily.

That all depends on where you live. In the southern hemisphere, winter is on the way, right?

But I’m the center of the universe! ….aren’t I?

          Posted on 21 April 2009

I guess that makes me just left (West?) of center? At least, if I remember your general location correctly, lol…I’m a few states over, and 15 min from the ridiculous MOA.

While I understand that woods and spice can be soft, I’m looking for a departure from my usual for spring. Or so I thought. Then I read the Gouverneur review and now I’m dying to try that!

Do they give away samples? A friend of mine is in Bruxelles right now and I would ask her to go to Senteurs d’Ailleurs to try and get one sample of these oud novelties, if the case.

    • Robin
      Posted on 21 April 2009

CSP makes samples; whether Senteurs d’Ailleurs gives them out (or even has these yet) I don’t know.

If these have got oud, I’m “ouda here”!

    • Daisy
      Posted on 21 April 2009

I’m afraid I have to agree. I want to love oud, really I do. I keep trying fragrances with oud…can’t seem to help myself. It always sounds so attractive to me then once it’s on my skin bad things happen.

    • Robin
      Posted on 21 April 2009

      LOL!

    Posted on 21 April 2009

*Picking jaw up off the floor* Woohoo CSP! Here I thought they were just going keep doing a zillion variations on vanilla and coconut. Oud is such a daring leap! Though I do have issues with the stuff myself. I have a feeling that these will be some of the more gentle ouds on the market and will definitely give these a try. Nomaoud definitely seems to be whispering my name.

I know CSP will never be what it was, especially with all the new restrictions, the fact that they are expanding their line like this gives me hope. Maybe they can make all their money from the sugar-sweet fans out there and afford to do more interesting things in the future.

    • Robin
      Posted on 21 April 2009

I’m guessing these will be gentle too…will be interesting to see what they’ve done w/ oud.

  6. Posted on 21 April 2009

Just having fun trying to wrap my tongue around these names. So – just to check – “Aouda” would rhyme with “Gouda”?

These fragrances do sound well worth trying!

    • Daisy
      Posted on 21 April 2009

If we’re getting pronunciation help….I’d like some clarification on ‘niche’ is it “sheesh!” and “quiche” or is it like “itch” and “pitch”?

      • capillary
        Posted on 21 April 2009

If these niches are anything like the architectural variety, “neesh” is the standard pronunciation I believe. Sounds better, also. =)

        • Daisy
          Posted on 21 April 2009

I agree….’nitch’ would sound too much like a rash type situation. Maybe that’s what happens when using real oakmoss?

        • flittersniffer
          Posted on 21 April 2009

Yes, it’s “neesh” all right, in Europe anyway, but the US pronunciation may be “nitch” – I am sure I have heard that before.

    • Robin
      Posted on 21 April 2009

I have no idea how they want you to say Aouda — “rhymes with gouda” works for me!

So even CSP has entered the Oud arena. Can’t say I’ve been overly moved by any CSP..or the ones I’ve tried at least…. except for Bois De Filao. These do sound interesting enough that I will seek them out.

CSP has not piqued my interest as a line yet, but these aouds might get me in the door. Any CSP favorites out there for those who avoid vanille-banane-coconut?

    • Robin
      Posted on 21 April 2009

My 2 are Eau de Gouverneur & Aqua Motu.

    • LaMaroc
      Posted on 21 April 2009

I was a fan of CSP in the late 80s to mid-90s when the line had more of a variety to it. Of late, it’s been obnoxious girly-drink in a can to me. The Perfumed Court has a few of the older ones to sample now (Eau Gris, Fleur de Pecher, Opoponax). There’s even a set of 45 1mls that I am drooling over. Unfortunately if you get hooked, like I did on Eau des Artes, you have to either do with samples or squirrel around online for vintage bottles.

    Posted on 21 April 2009

Second Robin’s thumbs up on Aqua Motu… and that’s really the only one I’ve tried, I think. Oh, there was Mage d’Orient, which I don’t think I like at all.

I’m always really curious about all of them though… I need to just go in Sephora for a CSP sniffing spree. Plus, CSP can be gotten SO inexpensively at discounters and on the bay.

These are interesting to me to try, but I think I have my oud needs covered by a couple of Montales. Always curious to try more though — it’s like vetiver for me, always a new way to spin it. Four is a lot to launch at once though; I think Aoud de Nuit sounds most interesting to me.

    • Robin
      Posted on 21 April 2009

The thing about the Montales is that I’m *already* covered by that category, you know? That is, I have a few Montale ouds I like and can’t see needing any more in that style. So hoping these are entirely different…and you’re right, they can be found so cheaply, unlike the Montales.

      • Joe
        Posted on 21 April 2009

Exactly — I own Montale Red Aoud and a decant of Black, but it might be nice to have one that’s lighter. A light EdT type of Red Aoud, if you will, because even the tiniest spritz of that goes a long way. If CSP is doing something in a more fun and light vein, that would be very welcome.

      Posted on 21 April 2009

Joe, I hated Magi d Orient. Purchased it unsniffed, but the online store took it back. I find that Sephora usually doesnt have the entire CSP line…well not the ones that we discuss here anyway…ie Governeur, Motu, Filao etc. They seem to only carry the different varieties of Vanille.

      • Robin
        Posted on 21 April 2009

My Sephora doesn’t have a good selection either.

  10. Jill
    Posted on 21 April 2009

These do sound interesting as most of the CSPs are way too sweet for me. Several years ago I wore some of them, but I was much more into “sweet” then than I am now (although I occasionally still reach for Matin Calin as a comfort scent). Still need to try my neglected sample of Gouverneur!

    • Robin
      Posted on 21 April 2009

Do try the Gouverneur, it’s entirely different from the sweet ones!

More (a)ouds in aluminium! Aoudluminum! I am all kinds of psyched to try these 3 CSPs. The only CSP I ever liked was the sadly discontinued Turquoise.

    • Robin

Aoudluminum — perfect!! You made me spew my tea ;-)

This does sound interesting, but I’m in Spring/Summer mode. I would like to try though, the Aoud de Nuit sounds great!

    • Robin
      Posted on 21 April 2009

I’m in spring summer mode too…but would be happy to try these any time before August!

    Posted on 21 April 2009

These sound amazing, but was wondering: can caramel be pinched? What’s more, will the caramel pinch back?

    • Robin
      Posted on 21 April 2009

It can be pinched, and it can sustain.

  14. Joe
    Posted on 21 April 2009

Also just noticed that all these and other new CSP launches are only 100ml, no 50ml… Pity. So even when these finally make it to the discount sites, that’s too much juice. It’ll be decants or nothing I guess…

    • Robin
      Posted on 22 April 2009

Joe, don’t know if they mean to add the 50 ml later though? I don’t know what their standard operating procedure is.

Definitely heading for winter here so i will have to send away for a couple of these- Aoud de Nuit and Oud Intense- as soon as i see them on the net.
Both sound like my taste in fragrance-yum

Thank you. I waste a lot of money on fragrance that isnt quite what I expected. Being so far away from the rest of the world makes it quite difficult . I love reading all these reviews and have found some fragrance loves through them.

Hi Debbie, it shouldn’t matter…there are people commenting here from all over the world so there’s such thing as “late”…

Hope you’ll like the CSPs, I look forward to trying them myself.
