Quick perfume news: Memoire Liquide, Parlux…

Memoire Liquide will open a new in-store boutique at Bloomingdales in New York City; look for it to open mid-April. (via wwd)

The latest celebrities to sign deals with Parlux: Rihanna and Kanye West. Look for their debut fragrances in the summer of 2010. Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and an unnamed female star are reportedly in the works. (via cosmeticnews, wwd)

The UK Independent has a feature on the 50 best perfumes, with selections ranging from Diptyque Philosykos to Elizabeth Arden Pretty. Thanks to Becca for the link!

I’m interested in that Independent list of 50, but good grief! Scrolling through page by page got on my nerves and I stopped around 30 for now. It’s also so blatantly skewed toward new and recent launches with a few “classics” thrown in. Still, always interesting to see anyone’s list (although I hate the idea of labeling it THE 50 best…..).

I know. It was so much easier to read it in the paper. And there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to the list and no personal flavour at all.
Why must so many websites for news etc do things page by page instead of just displaying everything at once? Advertisement maybe…

You did good! I made it through 10 and gave up —got stuff to do, you know? Besides: I hate Opium and once I saw that she kind of lost credibility!

Does anyone know when the new Hermes will debut and will be available for samples on TPC? :) TIA

Joe, at least they could have done 1 page w/ thumbnails…I found it quite annoying too, and there was one I was interested in going back to but was not going to scroll around looking for it.

Agree, very odd mix of scents.

I got through the list but I think I was kind of hypnotized and still a little sleepy.

Mostly I am annoyed that Kanye will have a fragrance when I really just want him to go away.

Happily (or not) I don’t know who he is.

WOW!!! He is almost impossible to avoid! I never listen to rap or r&b stations, or watch MTV, or VH1 or pretty much any celeb-sighting kind of show, or read youth-oriented magazines, and yet he is everywhere…. If anyone can be more full of themselves than Sean John it is Kanye West.

LOL…I don’t read any magazines other than the New Yorker, watch only 2 TV shows, don’t listen to the radio…I can avoid most anybody until they release a perfume!

I made it all the way through, but I found it a bit disappointing. I guess I was hoping for a bit more of a justification for each perfume. The write up just gave a brief description of the perfume without really saying WHY it is one of the best perfumes.

Yes, it was not heavy on the text, and it was clear they wanted to fit in lots of new releases.

I PRAY that “Unnamed Female Star” is NOT Beyonce! I want her to go to COTY soooooo bad! Beyonce, PLEASE don’t go to Parlux! They suck at advertising! At least at COTY she’ll have her own fragrance website!

Parlux doesn’t seem to invest as much as Coty, it’s true.
