Le Labo Oud 27, Byredo Fantastic Man ~ new fragrances

Le Labo Oud 27 fragranceByredo Fantastic Man fragrance

Le Labo will launch Oud 27 in March. It will be their first global (i.e., not a city-exclusive) fragrance launch since the brand debuted in 2006.

As usual, don’t expect to only smell Oud in this creation… Atlas cedar, incense, Patchouli, Saffron or Gaiac wood make this composition an intimate vision of the East.

Eddie Roschi of Le Labo described Oud 27 as the One Thousand and One Nights, bottled*. Update: see a review of Le Labo Oud 27.

And Byredo has introduced Fantastic Man, a fragrance created in collaboration with Fantastic Man magazine. The scent debuted in Sweden last fall:

Fantastic Man is THE Dutch magazine but it’s also is the name of Swedish BYREDO’s latest cologne born from the creative collaboration between Ben Gorham, Jop Van Bennekom and Gert Jonkers. Enjoy notes of Bergamot, Star Anise and Cardamom on Geranium, Incense, Lavender, Vetyver, Moss and Patchouli.

Le Labo Oud 27 and Byredo Fantastic Man will both debut at Colette in Paris in March. (via colette newsletter)

Update: Byredo Fantastic Man is now called Sunday Cologne.

I'd feel kind of weird having a perfume called Fantastic Man, but that sounds like something I'd like and I've seen favorable reviews for other Byredo releases
Oud 27 sounds good, even though I really thought that was the Tokyo city release (I think that was Gaiac now that I think about it?)

Yes, the Tokyo was Gaiac. Looking forward to hearing which perfumer did Oud 27…

A new Le Labo! . And only next month!!! Oud sounds good.

I was only recently inquiring about Fantastic Man in a comment on Kevin's Green and lo and behold here it is! If anyone has tried it, do share your thoughts. And Oud 27 – a thousand and one nights bottled? If that's really the case, I'm off to Colette now (well when I get to Paris in May…).

I like the sound of hte Le Labos. An insider at Mecca Cosmetica, a beauty site and stores in Australia, told me that they are going to carry Le Labo soon so I can't wait.

I'm looking forward to trying the LL Oud 27.
Meanwhile, I saw another new Byredo at Barneys this week, that I haven't seen mentioned much online. It's called Bal D'Afrique, and is built around a nutty vetiver. The vetiver reminds me somewhat of Vetiver Tonka.
I've been rather lukewarm on the Byredos, but this one is not bad.

Hope it will be! They've really done a great job with the line so far, so I'm hopeful.

I had never even heard of it until Colette sent out their newsletter…but personally am more excited about the LL. Oud 27 sounds great.

Hey, that's great! Then perhaps Australia will get their own exclusive scent eventually.

Hey, that Bal D'Afrique sounds wonderful!! I'll keep an eye out on the Barneys site, although they can be dreadfully slow to put things online. Shame that Byredo doesn't put any real info on their website.

Hooray for a new Le Labo that will be globally distributed! I love the city exclusives, but I have not yet had the opportunity to try either Musc 25 or Gaiac 10. I'm sure that I would like both of them, but teasing myself with a sample or a decant could be so frustrating! That's certainly the case with Poivre-I have a small decant that I am savoring bit by bit. Maybe it's better not to try them at all if I cannot obtain them myself.

Hmm a Le Labo in Sydney? What could the exclusive be I wonder… Frangipani 21?

I agree wholeheartedly….wish they'd do a new addition to the regular line every year.

    I'd buy that.

If it ever eventuates, I'd be happy to be your personal shopper in Sydney and send it to you Robin!

Thanks, that's very kind! Doubt I'll ever be able to return the favor: Le Labo is not coming to my little town anytime soon.

Tea Tree perhaps? Maybe Australian Sandalwood, even though it is nowhere near as delicious as its' Indian cousin.

Mecca has an online store too!

Tea tree would be interesting! Elsewhere, though, they don't seem to rely on indigenous ingredients so much as “indigenous inspirations”.

I am very excited about a scent interpretation of Fantastic Man and will be eagerly anticipating an olfactory translation of Butt.

Very much like Le Labo, love oudh. This sounds promising. But *sighs* wish the line was more widely available. . .

A note to anyone wanting to check out Butt: NSFW!

Gosh, but it isn't so hard to come by, is it? Other than the exclusives?

The border between the US and Canada makes things dicey for online purchases — duties cost $$$ — and it's not available at retail here, as far as I know, Robin. Canadians, please correct me if I'm wrong — which, in this case, I'd love to be!

Oh, that's so true. I am not good at remembering where everyone lives — I need a chart, or a map with little stick pins.

Well, they've certainly been expanding rapidly elsewhere, maybe they'll make it to Canada soon.
