Givenchy Play ~ new fragrance

Justin Timberlake for Givenchy Play cologne for men

Givenchy will launch Givenchy Play, a new fragrance for men fronted by pop star Justin Timberlake, this coming September.

Givenchy Play will be available in a “regular” and an intense Eau de Toilette, both centered on amyris wood. The Eau de Toilette will include notes of bitter orange, grapefruit, black pepper and patchouli; the Intense version features bergamot, tangerine, pink pepper, vetiver, tonka bean and patchouli. The scents were developed by perfumers Emilie Coppermann and Lucas Sieuzac.

The Givenchy Play bottle is designed to look like an MP3 player, and will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette or 100 ml Eau de Toilette Intense. (via cosmeticnews, abc-luxe, glamourparis)

Update: Additional notes for the regular version of Givenchy Play include bergamot, mandarin orange, coffee flower and vetiver; the Intense also has coffee flower and labdanum. Play Intense will also be in 50 ml. (via wwd)

Another update: see a review of Givenchy Play and Play Intense.

Is it just me, or does this look like exactly the same ad as Josh Hartnett for Emporio Armani Diamonds and Matthew McConaughey for Dolce and Gabbana The One? Same ad agency? Or just an epidemic of non-creativity?

It didn't strike me that way at all — they've got this one in the plane, and another where he appears to be in a recording studio, and perhaps others I haven't seen. But no paparazzi or adoring fans or anything, so I'm not seeing the link? I mean, it doesn't seem to be playing on the idea of “wear this, get mobbed by adoring fans”.

Eugh. Timberlake is much worse than Josh Hartnett. No, wait, he's even worse that McConaughey. Oh, Givenchy, couldn't you find someone actually attractive?

He doesn't do anything for me either. But we are probably in a very small group, everyone else seems to find him sexy as all get out.

Well, good. They can all mob JT, and we'll have the real men to ourselves – take your pick:))

LOL — is that how it works — if we turn down JT, we get *anybody* else we want? I like that.

Fine with me! I think JT will spot my subtle charms and pick me out of the mob :) Although, heavens, I wouldn't recognize him on the street if he looked like he does in that ad. He is in camo.

    But of course he will!

LMAO at JT! I love this trend in spokesmodels Robin does not find attractive. Am I crazy, or did Givenchy already have a fragrance called Play? I definitely remember a Rewind… Shaped like a cassette tape? Nothing like newfangled marketing to make me feel OLD!

    HA! 2008 advertising trends:

    1. Black & white photography

    2. Oddly unattractive male spokesmodels

And hey, I forgot about those Play scents…Oblique Rewind, and 2 others, right? Can't remember if the word “play” was in the name or not.

Found the listings on Perfume Emporium (I'd link but I'm too Oblique). The other two were Play and Fast Forward. And the bottle is a blue… depilator?

Yes, that's right! And one of them was a kind of cool cherry cough syrup, IIRC. Thanks.

Sounds tacky… but I do wanna try it ^_^

The notes sound pretty good to me!

That was Rewind. Very good, it was. Play was less memorable.

From here the bottle looks a lot like the deceased CK Crave.

Justin on the airplane looks space-y like some Versace ads with Madonna a couple of years ago. I would not be surprised if the photographer is Mario Testino (which I love most of the time) trying to be “cool” and “corporate” (you end with robot-looking people like the ad above)

The notes sound ok to me, and Givenchy I like a lot. So I'll give it the benefit of the doubt ;-)

p.s.: I didn´t post earlier because I was afraid of my coworkers thinking I was ogling over timberlake. I am not. He looks too kid-dy to me. I mean he barely looks 21. Not funny. :-P

I don't know the Crave bottle, will have to go look for it.

JT doesn't do a darned thing for me — it is a complete mystery to me why anyone finds him sexy. But most everyone does!

Whats an Eau De Toilete intense

It has no “official” meaning in terms of concentration — just means it is presumably stronger in smell than the “regular”.

This one hasn't made it to Macy's. Strange. What's going on with this one, Robin?

Just looked it up: Women's Wear Daily said in August 08: “At the end of this month it will be introduced in France, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the U.K., Russia, Greece and Kuwait. The rest of the world will get the fragrance in about a year.”

So, we may not get it til the summer. If at all — might depend on how it's done elsewhere.
