The 2008 fragrance awards season ~ the big winners

Marc Jacobs DaisyThe 2008 fragrance awards season is over, and we have a winner: Marc Jacobs Daisy, by a landslide. Daisy took a grand total of 7 awards for best fragrance, including Fifi (or equivalent) awards from the US, the UK and France, plus nods from the Canadian Fragrance Awards, Cosmetic Executive Women (US & UK) and Cosmetique magazine. I think it’s those chirpy little daisies on the bottle. Who doesn’t love chirpy rubber daisies?

The runner-up: Prada Infusion d’Iris, which took 4 awards for best fragrance.

On the men’s front, Narciso Rodriguez For Him was the “most honored”, taking 4 awards. The runners-up, Jean Paul Gaultier Fleur du Male and Diesel Fuel for Life for Him, took only 2 awards each.

Well I don not like this one, it smells like a chemical weapon in disguise. On the other hand, the bottle is lovely and there's a lot of marketing involved.

Okay…whatever. I do admit that I bought Daisy…for my daughter! She loves it, and that bottle is awfully cute.

    Hugs!

    You are absolutely right!

Marc Jacobs is very commercial. I admit I have a weakness for Blush. It is a fragrance I love on a friend of mine who is a smoker. Cigarette smoke works wel with Blush – it becomes much more interesting. When she finished the bottle and asked me what to wear, I recommended Lacoste Touch of Pink – all those fizzy fruity florals are designed for smokers!

Bottle is cute too, but after all one wears the perfume, not the bottle.

I have never sniffed Blush – is it a lighter version of MJ?

I can't imagine cigarette smell helping a frgrance, interesting idea! I used to be a smoker, but I was not into fragrances then.

Oh, I thought it was nice, although possibly not much more than that.

R, it is way cute…and perfect for anybody's daughter, seriously. I think it's a great first perfume.

Blush is not bad at all, and if they'd done it in a bottle as cute as this one, it would have probably sold like gangbusters.

LOL — you *know* I didn't think it was HER first perfume — she's your daughter after all! I just meant it would be a great first perfume.

I actually got Daisy as a birthday gift but I have a problem with wearing something that everyone else is wearing so I am saving it for when all the hype is gone! As far as the smell, it's definately fresh and I don't mind it for Summer. Just not this summer!

Regarding MJ Blush, I actually bought that unsniffed at TJ Maxx for $14.99 but glad to hear it's a nice scent, too bad I don't smoke (well not really)!

What a coincidence…I'm wearing Daisy today! I received it as a gift a few months ago. Though I probably wouldn't have bought it for myself, it's a perfectly pleasant scent. Nothing offensive about it at all. It's raining and muggy today, so I thought a green, light, summer floral would be a good choice – Daisy won the toss.

I really like Daisy and I wrtoe that plenty of times. I love to eat a fresh green apple and Daisy still smells like a piece of that fresh green apple in a glass of wonderful fresh champagne.

And this is not an apple scent at all…

To be honest, I didn' expect Prada Id'I do so well on the market. I'm glad it did. Although I haven't yet smelled it on a any of those half-naked early-twen students here who bustle around the streets on a friday evening. They still all wear fruity florals.

Hey, that's a deal on the Blush! Don't save the Daisy *too* long :-)

I think it's perfectly pleasant too. Guessing we'll get a Daisy flanker before too long…

Prada d'Iris does well in my area. Cashmere Mist fans are moving onto Prada d'Iris.

Daisy smells exactly like it belongs in a bottle with rubber daisies on it. Smells just like 'em. But no one asked me. Nor should they. I just spent a fortune on L'eau D'Hiver AND the body cream. And I'm glad I did.

Actually, I was just assuming because I thought these nominations reflect a bit what does well… but then, I can think of one, B*Men, that was discontinued soon after winning a Fifi.

Wow Quinn that is a good purchase. Have you bought Un Jardin Apres La Mousson as well or will you?

No, it's a sort of light jasmine-y thing.

LOL. Because twice as many of your swap pals can enjoy your “mistake”!!

I purchased Jardin/Mousson and the body cream, because I love body creams. I know it's been panned, but I love it. And now I'm having fun mixing and matching the various Ellenas in creams and fragrances. And will be selling my body on the street; I may have to go to a 12-step program and not buy any more this year. These purchases impoverished me.

Both body creams are great. The L'eau D'hiver is very light and absorbs quickly. Great for summer. Fans of thick creams be warned: the consistency of this is like half and half, not like heavy cream. It lasts forever at that great woody/cloud stage.

The Mousson cream is heavier, but not thick. Like heavy cream. It also lasts forever and is absolutely true to the fragrance, which I love.

So while I'm poor, after paying for those, I smell quite elegantly poor.

That is some idea, mixing-matching bodycreams or using a different bodycream under the perfume from the same parfumeur.

Those bodycreams and soaps are great for when travelling. That way you can still smell good without worrying if that bottle will leak or worse break…

Have not had any chance to try Jardin/Mousson for it is just not around here yet… but it is in Amsterdam and that is where I am going this sunday.. and then I might try Eau/Hiver as well, now that you mentioned it.

I would LOVE to have a Malle body cream. His vetiver soap is honestly the nicest soap I've ever used in my life.
