Etro ManRose ~ fragrance review
Ambra, Gomma, Heliotrope, Lemon Sorbet, Magot, Messe de Minuit, Palais Jamais, Patchouly, Royal Pavilion, Sandalo, Vetiver, Shaal Nur. I’ve owned all these Etro perfumes. A new bottle of Vetiver arrived at my home last week, and I’ve bought many bottles of Magot, Sandalo and Messe de Minuit, too. When ManRose1 was released I had to try it (though my love of Etro perfumes stops around 1997…recent releases have been “nice,” but don’t appeal to me like the older fragrances).

1946: French writer Colette went to Switzerland, where she would undergo treatment for severe and painful arthritis. She was delighted to find that the sparrows around her lodgings in Geneva were tame. They flew into her room from the balcony, slept under her bed, ate from her hands. They would even chirp protests when she would lock them out of the bathroom as she bathed. One day she found a pair of sparrows snuggling in a fold of her bedspread. With the animal world, we are subject to the same perils every time. To choose, to be chosen, to love: the very next moment we are beset by anxiety, the danger of loss, and the fear of spreading regret. What an array of big words when the subject is but a sparrow! Yes, a sparrow. In love, there is never a question of smallness. 1
A perfect segue to the love for, and smallness of…perfumes…

From DS & Durga, Bowmakers in a pocket perfume oil roll-on: “Amongst the transcendental woods of the 1800s, craftsmen from the Massachusetts Bay Colony built violin bows in the tiny towns of the Pioneer Valley. The shops were filled with old growth mahogany, burled maple shavings, amber pine rosin, aged walnut and the craftsmen’s unique, secret varnishes. An androgynous, full bodied scent, Bowmaker’s ether reek is subdued by supple leather and a variety of woods.” $72 for 10 ml at Twisted Lily…
