Roca Perfums Núvol di Llimona / Lemon Cloud

The opening is truly good enough to eat, and it should be. Núvol di Llimona (or “Lemon Cloud”) was developed by pastry chef Jordi Roca of the renowned Cellar de Can Roca. It's supposed to be a lemon muffin soaked in milk — or "an all-pervading, ethereal cloud of lemon surrounding a sponge cake treated to milk and sweeties", take your pick — and that's just what it is, a sheer lemon sugar fragrance with subtle cake notes, lightly charred, lightly milky, not overly sweet. It's sort of like a foodier version of Fresh Lemon Sugar, and it's highly enjoyable — if I still worked in an office, it's just the sort of thing I'd want to have in my top right desk drawer for a quick dose of comfort and cheer in the late afternoon. Even though I don't work in an office, I'd still like a bottle, and it would be an excellent (if spendy) choice for a very young girl who wanted her own perfume...

From Lalique, the 2012 special edition for the Lalique de Lalique fragrance: "For the 2012 edition, Sillage, the spirit of the tiara has been revisited with the help of the know-how of the master craftsmen. The flower bouquet that makes up the very heart note of the fragrance has been sculpted in minute detail on the stopper. The polished and frosted effects multiply the play of light which animates the crystal." 30 ml, 1200€...

I do not know if this one is a limited edition or not — Lalique has repackaged Nilang for 2011, and this is the crystal bottle for the Parfum. "Round, sensual, tactile, a crystal sphere nobly presenting two delicate, blossoming lotus flowers. Intertwined, petal against petal, the two flowers present themselves in a bouquet, their stems merging together at the discovery of the delicious nectar." 100 ml, 1200€... ]]> More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.

Even though I've finally finished my years (and years) of higher education, I still think of autumn as a season of "back to school" anticipation, complete with new books, new shoes, and new friendships — as well as the renewal of older friendships. Angela's recent post describing her fragrance collection as a group of friends made me smile and made me look at my own fall fragrance line-up in a similar way.

Les Parfums de Rosine Poussière de Rose was one of my first "niche" perfume purchases, and it's still one of my closest fragrance "companions." I actually wear it from fall through spring, because it always feels right. It reminds me of rose potpourri in a cedar box; very nostalgic. We're two of a kind.

Rochas Tocade is another longtime acquaintance, a rose-and-vanilla floriental that I bring back into rotation every autumn. It can feel a bit overdressed sometimes, and it's definitely not shy, but I always know I can rely on it to boost my confidence for a night out.

Ormonde Jane Ta’if is a more recent arrival to my perfume wardrobe...
