The Annick Goutal line occupies a rather in-between place among perfume fans — the company probably qualifies as niche based on their size and their limited distribution; still, they are available in a number of mainstream stores (three department stores in my local mall carry them), and the line doesn’t feel niche. The feminine perfumes are emphatically pretty, romantic even; they don’t, like so many niche perfumes, challenge traditional notions of what a woman ought to smell like.
Eau de Camille and Eau de Charlotte are both very much in that mold. They were created by Annick Goutal for her daughters…

Calypso Chevrefeuille is my second favorite honeysuckle fragrance, after Annick Goutal Le Chèvrefeuille. The notes for the Chevrefeuille are bergamot, orange blossom, honeysuckle, amber, and musk.
Calypso’s Chevrefeuille starts with a sharp burst of bergamot, and calms to a very soft, summery blend of orange blossom and honeysuckle. It is less of a soliflore than the Annick Goutal, and the brightness of the floral notes is tempered by the amber and musk, so this is a warmer, softer, slightly sweeter fragrance, with just a touch of green…

Today I am wearing one of my favorite honeysuckle fragrances, Le Chèvrefeuille by Annick Goutal. Le Chèvrefeuille was released in 2002, and was the third in a series of limited edition soliflores, after Le Muguet and La Violette. It was created by Isabelle Doyen and Camille Goutal, and features honeysuckle, green notes, narcissus, jasmine, lemon petitgrain.
Le Chèvrefeuille opens with sharp citrus notes, and settles into a very green honeysuckle. There are hints of narcissus and jasmine, but the honeysuckle stays in the forefront. Honeysuckle is so often overwhelming in perfume, as though the flower had been placed on steroids, but the Annick Goutal is bright, sparkling, and summery, and not at all cloying…
