Today's poll was suggested by Jaimie, who wants to know what you would smell in amortentia. Amortentia is a love potion introduced in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and purportedly everyone who smells it smells what they are most attracted to. Hermione smells freshly mown grass and new parchment; Harry smells broomstick handle and treacle tart.
What would you smell?

So, as we've already noted, Emma Watson is not going to be the new face of Chanel Coco Mademoiselle (or at least, not yet). Which is fine, as it leaves us open to imagine what fragrance her Harry Potter character, Hermione Granger, might wear.
Something young, intelligent and brave? Feminine, but not fussy or girly. Hermione would probably wear fragrance as an afterthought, if at all. I'm putting her in Hermès Osmanthe Yunnan, and I think the scent is perfect, although let's face it, the Hermione character would not be shopping in Hermès…

Mandragore is the latest fragrance release from the Annick Goutal line. It was developed by her daughter Camille in collaboration with Isabelle Doyen, the house nose.
Mandragore is, as far as I know, the first fragrance to feature the scent of mandrake, a Eurasian plant with purple flowers and a forked root, long thought to have magical powers. The other notes include bergamot, black pepper, ginger, spearmint, star anise, boxwood, and sage leaf.
Mandragore starts out with dense bergamot and spice notes. The pepper, anise, and ginger are all distinct. After a few minutes, the mandrake (or what I assume to be the mandrake, having never smelled one before) arrives, along with a little tinge of mint. It smells green, and sort of vegetal, and there are definite herbal-woody undertones that are probably from the boxwood…
