Hump Day! A couple quick PSAs: we will have our fall meetup poll on September 17, and the next splitmeet on September 24. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Calvin Klein CK One. It still smells like an old friend.
Reminder: on 8/26, wear a fragrance by Calvin Klein, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Epic Man (Amouage). May be a bit much considering the heatwave, but too late now… 🙂
Have you tried Dia man? I actually like that more then the Woman’s version..
I love Dia Man, have a small decant of it somewhere.
I love Dia Man, wear it all the time. To me these Amouage masculines are like fuller and very long lasting Chanel perfumes, if that makes any sense. I mean, they are complex, elegant, no nonsense, just make you feel like you are the boss, and they’re not at all hair chested, as one might expect from the Man in their names.
Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate
We’re House twins.
I scored a sample of that during my visit to S5A last weekend, will try it soon.
I like this one, but it lasts about three minutes on me!
If that! Such a delicious scent but longevity is so disappointing.
Hi Robin, I am wearing Un Jardin en Mediterranée which smells like an old friend to me too. It was one of the first scents I fell in love with after falling down the rabbithole. I think because it made me smell a perfume note for the first time: fig leaf.
That is a good one!
And one of my first was Philosykos 🙂
Do you still wear it?
I wore Philosykos for the first time yesterday, and although it didn’t last all that long on my skin, it did present as that rare thing, a wearable fig fragrance. So far, there are only Womanity, Un Jardin en Med, and Philosykos, that I can wear without wanting to scrub.
The Philosykos oil perfume lasts forever on me. Perhaps you could enjoy the figgy goodness longer in that version?
Didn’t know there was an oil of this one. I’ll need to find that!
Sampling Polianthes today which is a rich, happy white floral on me
I’m wearing Goutal’s Tubéreuse and a small spray of Mugler’s Supra Floral on my wrist. This time the Mugler wins. It’s one powerful and lasting scent.
Good Morning beautiful smelling people..
I am wearing Coco..but from the 90’s. Does anyone remember when Chanel use to put out their perfume wardrobes..I still have one that has 5, 22, 19, allure and coco. So I think its before they changed the juice. Coco is actually very nice in this heat..and I am drinking some homemade chai while the little ones nap
So for my six word review of Coco;
Liquor
Clove or is that my chai tea? 🙂
Sexy Cinnamon
Oriental
leather
rose
I actually went for my first jog this morning..my first in a long long time. It took me 30 minutes to jog 2 miles and I had to wear 3 sports bras ( I am still nursing)
You smell divine. I love Coco, but wouldn’t touch it in this weather.
Good job on the run this morning! It’s always tough getting back into the routine.
These small little bottles you can only dab so its actually unfolding quit nicely …and goes well with my chai.
Its it normal I am already sore from running at turtle speed..:P
Oof! You deserve a medal for jogging while still nursing! And very normal to be sore if you are not used to it. Remember the gait to jog is different from walking. Ease into it. Do a Couch to 5K program; this will ease any soreness.
Yes! Ha, it’s completely normal. Welcome to DOMS days (delayed onset muscle soreness). I’m in the midst of them myself since I had a tough weight lifting day Monday and then ran yesterday.
I like your review and ol Coco is great. The newer version is nice too, but not the same as I remember it. My husband had a an ex girlfriend who wore so he associates that one with her.
Good for you on the run!
The one I have has a different opening than the new version.
I don’t think Chanel does these perfume wardrobes anymore..which is a shame.
I love 90s Coco. Couldn’t wear it often, it’s one of Mom’s scents, but would love to have one of those little coffrets. I’ve been eyeing one and talking myself out of it.
Congrats on the jog. If I had to wear three sports bras I’m pretty sure I would just give up and have another cup of coffee (which is what I do when thinking about jogging in any case).
🙂
Nursing helped a lot with taking off the baby weight but more is needed to try and shed these pounds.
Not to be an enabler but the coffrets are so nice to have and you can enjoy those cute little bottles. I keep mine in the box and away from the light since they are getting up there in years and to my surprise none have gone off yet!
I’ve never smelled Coco, but your six-word review has me convinced that I need to! Congratulations on the run. I quit running a couple of years ago due to nagging hip pain, but I remember how good (and challenging) it felt to go for my first lap swim since my babe was born. No sports bras needed! (Though some of my bathing suits are comically small up top these days) 😉
I love Coco, and I think you smell fantastic!!! I will occasionally wear Coco in the summer, but just a tiny dab. The other day I wore some Natori which is very “chanel”, and it smelled great in the heat. I’ve had my eyes on Magie Noire too – I guess it’s time for fall fragrances already.
The last wardrobe I saw online was about 2 or 3 years ago. I don’t know if they still do that. The last wardrobe I bought was probably about 2010, and it had Allure, No 19, Coco, Coco Mme, and No 5.
Well done for the jog- and the first one is always the hardest. Plus you smell great.
Weather is much more agreeable for running! I was out Sunday and Monday for a run.. so nice.
Is it EDT or EDP
SOTD is Fragonard “Concerto”. It is undistinguished, and therefore an improvement on Monday’s and yesterday’s efforts. Fragrantica describes it as citrus/ floral/ green/ ozone/ spicy. I guess it’s a jack of all trades and master of none. :^)
I didn’t expect these Fragonard scents to have much sticking power so brought some of my 1ml decants for evenings. Monday evening I wore Montale “Aoud Musk”, which was strong and earthy with a hint of a specific vegetable I’ve smelled before and just cannot place. I don’t think this brute of a scent is for me, but it isn’t by any means bad. Last night I wore Creed “Virgin Island Water” for a meal taken outdoors in 30C evening temperature. The fruity flowery coconut was just right for a warm Summer night, and the lack of longevity didn’t matter for an event lasting a couple of hours.
Maybe you’ll have better luck with tomorrow’s Fragonard. I have only ever tried Billet Doux which was very long lasting. Hope your work is going well
Hopefully so – I have deliberately started with the weakest players to build up to tomorrow and Friday, at which points I may well reach the dizzy heights of quite-niceness. (I smelled them all, a little, on decanting into my 2ml samples and I don’t think there’s a mind-blowing experience waiting for me).
Speaking of which, SOTE is Jovoy “Les Jeux sont Faits”, a 1ml freebie from Scent Samples, and I love it in all it’s boozy wonder.
Top: petitgrain, angelica and dried fruits
Mid: rum, gin, tobacco leaf and cumin
Base: sandalwood, patchouli, vanilla and labdanum.
My only doubt: is it too similar to Nobile 1942’s “Rudis”, of which I have a 10ml decant at home? I think I’m honour-bound to get a crafty 5ml decant and do a side-by-side. :^D
Work is going just about OK, which is a huge improvement on where it has been for the past months. Thanks for asking!
I find Rudis to be much more boozy than the Jovoy.
Thanks cazaubon – what I want to find is there’s enough distance between them (and 4160 Tuesdays “A kiss by the fireside”) to justify all 3! :^)
They both sound so good…like Christmas mince pies.
Hi everybody – hope everyone is well!
Took yet another friend on a sniffing adventure to Bergdorfs last night, and the pleasure of introducing other people to new pleasures continues unabated. If this *were* a job, I would love to do it, but in the meantime, it’s a deeply satisfying way to bond with friends, and provides a fascinating insight into the different ways people experience scent.
I smelled the new Galop yesterday, and while the friend I was squiring around Bergdorfs loved it, I was a bit turned off by an unexpectedly strong citrus-y note, which I now know is quince (thank you Fragrantica!). I had thought it was going to be all about rose and leather, and my friend definitely got a lot of leather, but I had difficulty getting over the quince note. Rather disappointed, but perhaps others will like it just fine.
Perhaps citrus isn’t an appropriate description, but I experienced it as a kind of bracing fruity note that didn’t appeal nearly as much as many others do. But I’ll have to try it again and see if my opinion changes.
Thanks for reporting back on Galop.
You should do these perfume adventures as a side gig.
I am will go to BG this week..but more to hunt for a new lipstick for fall..
Thinking of you and hope all is well
Thinking of you too, and if you ever want to go to BG together, let me know! I’ll be happy to hold a baby or two. 🙂
Almost as nice as taking a friend sniffing is reading about it! Did Galop improve at all? Or was it quince beginning to end?
I didn’t spray it on skin, though my friend did, but we were smelling so many things that I lost track, but I will give it a proper try on skin and report back. If I recall correctly, the quince had dissipated some by the time I next smelled it, but it still wasn’t as rosy or leathery as I wanted it to be. But I will try again, and of course, my experience may very well be unique!
I was at Bergie’s yesterday too, but totally forgot about that one! I only breezed by the Hermes display. I guess I’ll just have to go back… It is fun taking people sniffing. I took a friend to Osswald. She’s only ever owned Daisy Eau So Fresh so it was fun to see her reaction to things totally different from what she is used to. Glad you had fun!
We missed each other! Poop.
I really, really need to go to Osswald more often – I’m just not often in that neighborhood, so I have to remind myself to make a special trip.
Glad you had such a good time out with your friend.
Sorry to hear Galop didn’t impress. I’d be a bit put off by a fruity note as well. Was the bottle at least nice?
I liked the bottle, but I remember it getting some mixed reviews when Robin first announced it was being released on NST.
I bet other people would like it – you just have to like quince.
Completely agree on Galop.
I am sampling it today for the 2nd time…I sampled it on Fri or Sat but didn’t want to prematurely put it on blast. 😉
I get leather and quince and I, as well, only know it is quince as based upon the notes. Kind of citrusy fruit but it is strong. So leather and quince and I guess I’m just not that into quince it turns out.
Quince and lychee are on my list of bad fruits now I guess. Fleur Narcotique has tons of lychee and I was not a fan. And I know some others feel strongly about fruit in their perfumes…I have witnessed some pear hate in the comments too. 😉
But I think quince fans, whoever you may be, 😉 will love this so it is worth a try…
Agreed – if you like that note, go for it! And as I don’t really know the note well, maybe I’d like it too in another combination, but this just wasn’t for me.
I’m not a fruit-hater myself (in the right combinations, plum, peach, pear, mango and apple can be lovely), but I definitely don’t like lychee either, so you’re not alone.
Ugh! I was so excited about rose and leather and love the bottle, too… I’ll give it a whirl nonetheless.
I got a pissy note unfortunately – maybe it’s the quince, although a friend told me Galop also has cassis bud, which can give that urinous smell.
One of these days you can escort me around Bergdorfs!!! Sounds like tons of fun and very good of you.
Absolutely!! I would love that, and I’d be willing to bet many others in the NY fumie crew would love to join us too. I hope we get to make it happen!
Interesting. I really like that bottle they use.
What about doing NYC perfume tours as a side gig? They have these in other cities, and you’d be perfect for this.
They have those in other cities? I had no idea. Is it in partnership with the stores or something? Do tell!
Paris of course! That’s the only one I’ve seen them for.
I think there would be a market for this. There is so much I need/want to learn about perfume, (what does oud smell like? sandalwood? why does Coromandel sometimes smell like liquorice?) and a field trip would definitely be a good place to start. go for it!
I read there is a somewhat weird veggie note in it that intrigues me; have you detected anything like that?
Louve Serge Lutens.
One of the unloved Serge’s.
Almonds and Musk.
Nothing more, but that’s what I want today.
😀
I’m also in the (apparently quite small) Louve fan-club! I have absolutely no idea why it’s called that, but other than the name, it’s a very nice fragrance.
Hmm…I have never smelled it, but a musky perfume called “she-wolf” makes sense to me 🙂
I’m not sure I’ve smelled this one, but I’m a fan of almonds so I imagine it’s great!
I love Louve. I like how it is almond without distractions …so it works in a way like Philosykos. Has that same warmth and singular vision.
I love it too. Same neighborhood as Rahat Loukhoum but less sweet and rich.
Good morning, and Happy Pluto Demoted Day! 🙂 Poor little Pluto…I still insist it’s a planet…..Today marks the 10th anniversary of its demotion.
SOTD: Gucci Premiere.
Marshall’s shoppers: My local store has a slew of perfumes right now. Overflowing shelves…it’s actually hard to look thru them! I have my eye on Versace Versence; hoping the price drops a bit! 🙂
I don’t think they should be allowed to change stuff like that. Who cares about the science behind it? *If I had to learn it in school it should be a fact!
*I mean stuff like proper spelling and grammar and which floaty spheres are planets, not history or other subjects that actually need to evolve.
As a scientist I understand the demotion, and yet, yet: Pluto is still a planet in my heart.
And oh yeah- Marshalls and TJ Maxx in the beginning of the school ALWAYS has something going on!
Yep. Planetary science, I thumb my nose at you! Pluto’s a planet!
I’ve been considering buying this t-shirt for several years now. You might like it:
http://store.mentalfloss.com/pluto-r-i-p-t-shirt/
I considered Orange Sanguine to combat the humidity, but went with the cheaper, and just as good, 4711 AC Mandarine & Cardamom.
Ooh what is that like? Sounds interesting.
I’m wearing Tom Ford Violet Blonde. I bought it just yesterday, from a woman who had two 100 ml bottles and was getting sick of it. It’s lovely by the way, definitely my favorite fragrance from Tom Ford so far — and of course, it’s the one they discontinued. This type of powdery violet is usually not my type of fragrance, but I still love it anyway.
Has anyone tested Orchid Soleil? So far, all I’ve read about it was very conflicting. I’ve also heard it’s very similar to Lys Soleia from Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria.
Violet Blonde is gorgeous – one of my favorites. You smell divine.
Ditto that – I’m glad I finally got my hands on a small bottle. Very nice and classy. Sexy too.
Because I have Noir pour Femme, a few samples of Noir Extreme and have tried other TF I thought i would like Orchid Soleil.
I HATED IT.
It was the first time I was glad that I did not spray a fragrance on my skin.
I didn’t spray it on skin, but from a quick sniff, it smelled like a coconutty white floral of the beachy variety to me.
So… similar to Soleil Blanc from their Private Blends, then? I tested that one a while back, and it smelled basically like a coconut suntan lotion — a very nice one, I admit, but for the price they ask, nice is not enough (which to me seems like a problem with too many fragrances from Private Blends line). I guess I’ll check Orchid Soleil out and see if it really is similar to Soleil Blanc.
I wouldn’t take my word on this one since I gave it and Soleil Blanc very quick blotter sniffs and decided “not my thing” so not very nuanced impressions.
I rubbed on a mag strip from either Cosmo or Glamour Sept issue, and it was definitely a rich TF composition. It was very intriguing and I really wish I could smell from a spray. There was something dissonant going on and my nose was challenged. Always good to be challenged. I can’t say if it is fbw for me though – mag strips are so unreliable.
Interesting! I also smell something dissonant in regular Black Orchid — can’t say I don’t like it, it actually makes me want to sniff it more and more. Besides, I always get compliments when I wear it. I have it in a decant and maybe someday I’ll splurge on a full bottle.
And I guess I’ll have to check Orchid Soleil out.
http://graindemusc.blogspot.com.au/2016/08/tom-ford-orchid-soleil-poison-gardenia.html
I tested it the other day and wasn’t overly impressed. There are a lot better tuberose fragrances out there like EL Private Collection Tuberose/Gardenia or Fracas. It smells like a lot of other BWF scents.
I don’t think I saw the EL one (the selection of EL fragrances is quite meager where I live… Plenty of Modern Muses, not enough of stuff like Knowing, White Linen and Youth Dew), but I saw Fracas in some stores, so I guess I’ll check it, too. I actually remember smelling it and liking it.
Oh, I love that VB and never got around to buying a bottle before it was discontinued. Lucky you!
I love VB but can hardly smell it on myself, so never went for a FB.
I’m trying Zoologist Bat, which surprised me by smelling intensely like a hair salon at first sniff, but the musks get dirtier on skin. Interesting…
Smelling like a hair salon can either be really good or really bad, depending on the salon. I’m guessing this was in a good-ish sort of way?
If someone is getting a perm, yikes!
Right? Nothing worse than freshly relaxed or perm smell! Mmmm, ammonia and lye smell!
It smells like expensive hair products, like the hair-washing station. Definitely not a bad smell, but I was expecting an animalic bomb!
No bombs from Bat – Rhino on the other hand……
I kind of assumed they would all be animalic.
SOTD is Gris Montaigne, a good-sized decant of which was sent by a wonderfully generous NSTer. Now to try to figure out a grey-and-pink outfit that will work in 90 degree heat. Hmmmm.
Wow that is a gorgeous one. The outfit sounds more challenging though!
Too challenging – total failure on the pink/grey theme. My pale grey slacks are missing somewhere, either in the house or at the dry cleaners. I still managed to cobble together a suitably chic and GM-worthy (I think) outfit – black-and-white pencil skirt, white shell and lime green cardigan, rounded out with black opaques and black suede high-heeled pumps.
Today is our office Spirit Day. At noon we “shut down” and will be eating a lot of pizza, bbq, and snacks. The fridge is packed to the gills with wine and a ridiculous amount of beer. Beer pong, can-jam, cornhole and darts for games – some of which will be played outside.
For some reason, despite knowing it’ll be in the upper 80s today I put on Field Notes from Paris. As soon as I did I thought: oh wait… this might not be a good idea. We’ll see…
Spirit Day sort of marks the end of summer to my mind, so I guess I’m anxiously awaiting autumn so I can wear heavier scents.
How fun! I’m in a profession where drinking during a workday is a big no no. Sounds so decadent to me.
Our office is ridiculously relaxed. People wear whatever to the office (many have brought in house slippers) and there’s almost always some sort of alcohol in the fridge.
…I wonder if the babies would mind if I just started making champagne cocktails midday..hahaha
I am rarely ever drink..but a cold beer on a hot day sounds nice, so enjoy
Yes, it’s going to be warm today. So a cold beer playing some cornhole should be nice.
What fun! Games and day drinking and pizza! Have fun!
Thanks. We do this once a year – usually when the office does their Final Fantasy drafting. The drafts aren’t ready today though so it’s just games and drinking.
What a cool office and what a nice day. Have fun.
Thanks. We are known as the “cool” office among our clients haha.
That sounds like a great environment to work in. My current organization is pretty bad at building a collegial environment, and therefore no one is invested in the place. It’s a serious problem, and they could benefit from doing more of what you’re doing today. Do enjoy!
We are completely and utterly spoiled rotten here. Everyone knows it too. As a result, we all work our butts off. It also helps that the boss is fun to be around and is a huge comic book nerd. He wears a comic tee to work every day – even under his dress shirts for client meetings.
Beer and darts – what could go wrong? 😉 We do something similar here every summer, and only occasionally have trouble. People are mostly well-behaved grownups (or, if they aren’t, they at least seem to know better than to hurl pointy projectiles around).
All on company property too! Hahaha, liability… what? It’s ok, our HR has already sent out threatening GOT memes about drinking and she has and WILL take/ hide car keys.
For the most part, everyone here is well behaved. It can get a little wild, but we all know better.
What kind of work do you do again Jenkr? I forget.
I’m an office manager for an SEO company.
I’m in Perris Monte Carlo Absolue d’Osmanthus today. Im really liking it so far. It’s similar in character to Miyako: strong apricot and sandalwood but it’s smoother and rounded out by vanilla and amber. Most Ismanthus perfumes I’ve smelled are more like pastel apricot/peach watercolors floating in tea. This is more oily golden yellow.
Sounds (smells) delish! 🙂
It is quite beautiful. I would love to smell osmanthus in nature. If this is close to the real thing, then I’m kind of blown away. Such a complex aroma!
Oooh – I am intrigued. Will have to smell. They have that line at BG, right?
I feel like osmanthus is having a moment right now, don’t you?
They do have that line, and the SA was generous and gave me samples. I actually went there to see if they had this one in yet. I think the hype around Miyako recently helped highlight this flower, which I’ve never smelled.
I don’t know this scent but the way you describe it makes me want to!
I really need to get to BG soon. It’s been too long. I’ve not tried anything from this line and I love osmanthus. Do hope to try it soon!
I’d only ever been there once before (Sniffa), but I’m re-amazed at their fragrance collection.
Sounds heavenly! Thanks for the mini review. I have the Dame Osmanthus rollerball which I love to experiment with layering combos. (It’s great with Dame Hard Leather and Guerlain Vetiver.)
Now I’m curious how the Dame compares.
Calvin Klein CKin2U. Lots of citrus and vanilla. Very long lasting on me with a good sillage. Fun to wear it once in a blue moon, especially on those days when I have so many tasks to do at home.
No perfume for me this morning, as we’ve got another round of vaccinations to look forward to this morning, and I always like to just smell like myself for my little bear on these challenging days. However, I slept in Ambre Russe last night, and fell in love all over again. I think of ambers as existing along a continuum from dry to sweet, like champagne, and while nearly all ambers smell good to me, I have a sweet spot for the dry ones. Ambre Russe is dry, to my nose, but enchanting in that it contains whiffs of root beer and spice cookies, somehow magically without smelling *sweet*.
That sounds gorgeous!
I love Ambre Russe. It’s best for me in really cold weather, which we never have here.
I hadn’t consciously rated its sweetness and would have said it was fairly sweet until I read your post and really thought about it. It’s more that it’s smooth and multifaceted, rich without being too heavy. I’m always reminded of the brandied cherries and raisins my parents had in a big jar on the counter when I was very small. Now I want a bright snowy day, some brandied fruit, and a few good sprays of Ambre Russe!
I was wondering about sampling that. You’ve sold me on it!
Collection Extraordinaire Orchidee Vanille by Van Cleef and Arpels.
The fetid heat appears to be gone from NE Canada, so I am starting to bring out the heavier scents that I enjoy so much
The fetid heat has left PA too, so I am thrilled. Nice sunny days and cold crisp nights are back. I can sleep again! And I am itching for my fall fragrances big time, so as much as I hate to see nice summer weather go, I am really wanting fall this year.
SOTD Ninféo Mio, lovely and green. I originally bought a 25ml bottle on ebay but have followed up with 100ml backup. Peskily hot today but should cool down a bit tomorrow.
You smell great!????
Exciting day home from work today! We got our marriage license, and soon I’m off to get my horrible highlights corrected and my wedding dress altered. Wearing DSH Perfect Veil because it’s polite enough for close quarters with clerks and hairdressers and tailors. Plus, the veil reference seemed appropriate. 🙂
EXCITING!!!!! 😀
Getting close! Exciting! I have that DSH sample set somewhere. I did like Perfect Veil. I remember it as a “your-skin-but -better” scent.
Actually, I think it’s Sarah Horowitz, and not DSH.
You’re quite right! That’s an embarrassing error considering that I’d just been reading about the scent minutes prior
Horowitz and Hurwitz gets confusing. It took me a while to realize it myself.
Congratulations! Enjoy!
Wheeeee! Have a good time!
Enjoy these moments!
Very exciting! Congrats!
HUMPDAY!
1) One week and counting. I really should start packing!
2) SOTD: Black Jade (from a sample). Nerd warning for teh rant below:
Now, youse guys, the story is very silly and quite untrue. Although Versailles records do show that a number of perfumes and essences were ordered for the court itself and for the more formal functions, we actually have personal records for Marie Antoinette herself. She loved bathing in what was termed “the English fashion”- soaking in a bath to refresh and scent the body. Her bath contained roses, herbs and almonds; and she used what we would call Hungary water and colognes like what made in Santa Maria Novella on her person. In keeping with the writings of Rousseau, MA designed a lifestyle that was influenced by a ‘return to nature’ sensibility, and colognes, both worn and ingested(!) would have appealed to her more than a rose/spice/incense scent.
However, I have no problem seeing Empress Josephine wearing this scent, and I willing to bet the last $20 in my wallet that if this is indeed based on a historical formulue than this is Josephine’s scent, and not MA’s.
3) Perfect summer day- but it will get so hot later on! Another excuse for afternoon swimming!
Black Jade is beautiful. You smell fantastic!
Agreed.
Oh, thank you! it really is a lovely, lovely scent.
One of my favorite scents. You smell great today and thanks for the interesting tidbit.
Black Jade is GORGEOUS!! You smell royal today! 🙂
How do you know when you really really needed a better night’s sleep?
When you realize several minutes have passed and you are still staring perplexed at your decants labeled BOIS D’ENCENS ARMANI and BOIS D’ARMENIE GUERLAIN (except in really tiny font).
Solution? Drain your decant of Maison Berdous Premium Lavender and pour yourself another mug of coffee.
Solidarity in tiredness. Time for tea. Hope the lavender and the coffee help!
This made me laugh and yes I do that too sometimes. Coffee double strength with cinnamon sometimes helps.
🙂
I am ALWAYS tired..feel for you
SOTD for me today is vintage Chamade edt. I needed some of that galbanum and balsamic goodness to help me through the day.
MMMMMM.
Hi Ann! You smell so gorgeous. I used up all your Chamade samples, except for the vintage, have a little left. And…I came across such a good deal for Chamade Extrait…well the rest will follow for Donatella. It hasn’t arrived yet, but I am in eager anticipation.
My letter to E. is waiting to be written, we’re too busy here, business is expanding fast and demanding all my energies (except short visits to NST).
I hope you are well.
Eau Dynamisante from a generous splash bottle gift with purchase from Clarins. Nice for the glorious late summer heat we are enjoying in the UK.
Lovely.
That pic made me think, “Awww, tough guys and starlets need love, too.”
CK One, it gives me the feels. I never wore it, but it was always there. I imagine I can smell it right now as I close my eyes and inhale.
SotD = a cloud of Infusion d’Iris Absolue. Woke up thinking of it thanks to the La Femme Prada review + comments I read last night before falling asleep.
Iris Absolue is my hopeful shield against sickness. My teen-age son was sick last night and couldn’t work his part time job today. My dentist’s office manager called to say my morning appointment was cancelled because the hygienist is out of the office. Her son is sick. Hmmm, cold and flu season coming early? Hope not.
Back to bed with the covers over my head.
Be fragrant and safe out there, NST people!
Let us know whether IA does indeed have protective powers!
I’m always intrigued by what motivates us to choose a particular scent on any given day.
Today I’m really looking forward to an afternoon genealogy program to jumpstart resumption of a former hobby (and passion!) I’ve neglected for far too long. In my current ‘thinking about history’ mode, I’m inclined to choose a fragrance that’s somewhat old-fashioned, at least with a nod to the past in its major scent note. My choice: JCB Fleurs d`Ombre Violette – Menthe The cooling green mint tempers the sweetness of the violet, as the sandalwood/mossy bottom tempers the scent’s powderiness. A very satisfying choice not only for my mood today, but also for a rainy/muggy weather day. Violette-Menthe is a cool and refreshing summertime take on an old-fashioned flower that’s a favorite of mine.
I don’t recall ever smelling fragrance on either of my grandmothers, but would my great-grandmothers have worn scent in the ‘Old Country?’ Oh, how I’d love to know!
Violette-Menthe sounds beautiful. I haven’t encountered it before.
Wearing Amouage Memoir at Cedar Point. Should have worn no 19. Too late now.
Have a great time! Ride the big coasters for me.
Oh, this transplanted Cleveland girl misses Cedar Point! Have fun riding all those giant coasters!
Ridiculously hot today in UK so my day consisted of a quick trip to the vets to get the fur baby checked after her spaying (all healing well) and a short walk before it got too hot. I then had a few hours in the garden reading a book and doused myself in AC Cedrat Envirant.
After a quick shower I doused again with AC CE and a small spray of AC Oolong Infini. These two work quite well together.
Busy work day for me so I chose 31 Rue Cambon for fortification. I hope everyone is having a great day!
Perfect choice!
You smell amazing!
Fab-u-lous!
I wanted the menthol blast of Tubereuse Criminelle this morning and it’s great. Looking forward to a lazy day and no cooking in the heat–I picked up a giant burrito last night and there is still half left for dinner tonight.
The one thing I love more than a half of a big burrito is the next day’s 2nd half of a big burrito, eaten cold while standing at the kitchen sink looking out the window, and feeling happy I didn’t have to cook dinner. 😀
SOTD is Mirus Driftwood. I smell like a walk on the beach, assuming the driftwood on this particular beach is cedar. I wish I were actually walking on the beach, not slaving in front of a computer…
Oooh, Driftwood. I bet you smell fabulous. After reading Kevin’s NST reviews of Driftwood and Wicked Stepmother I’m imagining great things.
It is nice. It has shifted from cedar-dominant to sandalwood-dominant over time.
Now I have Eau des Merveilles on the other wrist… I’m liking beachy sandalwood a lot more than beachy orange.
Oh yay, you’re trying your new bottles!!! Have you tried your other new purchases yet? I don’t even remember what else you got, but assume I’d recognize the names 🙂 And have you made decisions on your samples?
Haven’t worn the rest yet. Slacker here. How did you like your samples?
Alas, alack, my samples are in Toulouse while I am in Bordeaux 🙁 I have been daydreaming about Kulfi, though. I should’ve just gotten it. What’s $60 among friends anyway?
Bottega Veneta for me today. Calming scent.. and a great no-brainer.
Back to being freezing in the office. I’m wrapped up and downing tons of tea. I hate feeling this way.
Looking forward to see what folks are up for splitting in a few weeks 😉
You smell great! I’m also curious about the splits.
JM Rare Teas test #2 is Oolong. It’s sweet and a little smokey with a mild fruitchouli character. Being Jo Malone it’s not heavy so it still works well in this warm weather.
Doing a small Duchafour science project: Ostara in one arm and Seville a l’Aube in the other. Great so far
Queen!
Queen is sooooo good….and perfectly priced as well! 🙂
I am wearing Chanel No.22 extrait today. It is my husband’s gift for our wedding anniversary which was on the 22nd. It smells out of this world.
You smell lovely and happy anniversary. The years sure fly by.
No. 22 for the 22nd of August, such a thoughtful and poetic anniversary perfume present. You smell AMAZING.
Perfect gift ????
Congratulations Hera!
Happy Anniversary. What a nice present. You smell fantastic!
Temps are still ranging in the lows Pre-Spring,SOTD Jasmin Rouge. One of only a couple of TF that works on my skin!(Tobacco Vanille=SourAde…)Saw Kilian Back to Black at a local retailer today for around $500,sooo expensive, but I sooo WANT it!!Thoughts?
Johanob, I acquired BtoB in a set of four 15ml (I think) bottles with a black lacquer holder to take my mini of choice when I go out and about. I decided that I have so much perfume, that was the sensible thing to do, and of course it matters to me very much to be sensible…???? Also, BtoB is rather potent, and requires such a tiny spritz to give a good payoff that my mini will last for ever. An unexpected bonus was that I fell rather heavily for BtoB’s companion, Sweet Redemption. The set was less than half $500–maybe $205?I want to get Good Girl Gone Bad the same way, if I can. Might be worth your while thinking about this, but if you REALLY truly deeply forever love BtoB, then buy the bottle and revel in it.
I have two unopened travel atomizers of GGGB that no one was interested in swapping at the swapmeet. If you change your mind, I can attempt to mail you one while I’m in Sydney. ????????
Oh cool,I LOVE your suggestion and method!I did that recently with a couple of Hermès ones I really like, but not enough to buy big bottles of!Thanks!
If you can afford it ( without going into debt ) then defintely buy it. Better to get one perfume you love than three ‘good’ perfumes as a consolation prize. What does it smell like on you?
It’s a definite WANT on my skin, plus I am also a sucker for the Kilian packaging…lol!I won’t sell the house for perfumes, don’t worry!Hehe!!Thanks!;-))
Wearing L’artisan Al Oudh today ….whenever I wear it I get the line from the Paul Simon song going through my head (You can call me Al) which kind of diminishes the poetry.
Had a big perfume clear out yesterday…Poison Girl has gone on the bus with Gus to a brighter place (SPCA op shop) taking Lolita Lempicka Sweet with her. I don’t think it is actually possible to wear Poison Girl ( after Hypnotic Poison especially…because that is so good). With Poison Girl you really need to be able to come in after the first hour is up..it’s just too much before then, too abrasive. Still stormy here. Love to you all!
Awww. Bittersweet. Sorry to see those two go-just because I like hearing you talk about them. I’ve never smelled either. But you kept the leopard coat, I hope.
Yes I have the coat. And I think Poison Girl will be okay.
“Gone on the bus with Gus” made my day!
Hypnotic Poison is hard to beat with a flanker of a flanker like Poison Girl!!
A day of meetings and dread, so wearing Femme. I’m already beginning to feel my backbone slipping back into place…I was going to be-suit myself and look all corporate, but I think I long ago cooked my credibility along with the goose in that respect. Red boots will do that to a person’s rep. I’m relying on Femme for all the gravitas I’m likely to exhibit.
I need some red boots.
Yes, everyone needs some, or their equivalent. My sister has a bright purple coat that serves the same purpose in her life as my red boots in mine. Oddly, she has a yen for my boots and I have a thing for her coat.
Ha! Yes! Last fall I had to buy a proper winter coat for a trip to colder climates. I found a purple down coat on the clearance rack, which of course I bought, because: purple.
Hee hee, a few days ago I ordered a new purple purse also because: purple. My current go-to handbag is orange. 😀
Apparently there is a Japanese proverb that says something to the effect that “there is room in the cupboard of every woman for a pair of red shoes”. Either that or my husband made it up to make me feel better.
I have a pair of red boots and they are indeed powerful. 🙂
So much NST to catch up on! I don’t know what is happening to time these recent mornings. I’m on a first aid course today, doing a refresher since I’ve been one of the first aiders on my floor at work for a few years. All I’ve had to do in that time is give someone a band-aid, but good to think I might be able to help with something worse if necessary.
A drop of Iris Nobile again, I used half the bottle years ago and have recently rediscovered it.
Whoah, my identicon’s different. Did the interwebs gods decide I needed a change? ????
SOTD is AG Quel Amour!
I had a fun couple of days in San Diego taking in the cooler temps, visiting family, and catching a ballgame. (Of course, my team got creamed since it was a super-rare chance for me to see them in person.) Now I’m unpacking. It’s the same stuff that got put into the luggage, so why is the process so tedious compared to packing??
Am temporarily out of my apartment and brought a shoebox full of perfume with, so choices are limited and haven’t yet decided on today’s scent. May end up in Kelly Caleche EDP which I’ve worn quite a lot this summer.
Wore vintage Poison EDT to bed last night, which I’ve discovered I love much more in summer than other seasons. But last night I experienced totally different facets than I’ve ever smelled on my skin before. It was all tropical flowers with a hint of coconut and powder. Usually I get red fruits, grape and balsams, and I’ve never quite understood why people refer to it as a floral – maybe last night I smelled what other people usually get from it? At any rate, it was divine and I’m glad I decided to include it in my shoebox of selections!
Errands with quick stop at TJ Maxx. Not much if interest…just grabbed a tube of Body Shop Satsuma body soufflé. Various tempting scented shower products, but I’m already full up in that department.
Stopped at Cedra Pharmacy, which has some fragrances. Amouage, Juliette Has a Gun, Eau Moderne, Molinard Eau de Parfums (in the purple bottles), Eight & Bob, Bottega Profumiera… Spritzed on two of the latter. MonJardin, which is a quite nice floral and Shardana, an Eau de cologne. May need to go back when I’m in the neighborhood (60s east) to sniff some more…
I tested those at Twisted Lily. I remember the rose one was nice. I love those kind of pharmacies.
Dior Cuir Cannage layered over orange blossom body cream. Husband gave me a compliment, so it’s a winner.
That sounds a great layering idea. You smell lovely
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
I did not have time for lunch today and I am super annoyed at unethical business practices. If the subject of an email stated 50% off and you opened it because it said 50% off and you used the code that was given (brandblahblah40), would you expect 40% off or 50% off? On top of that, would you expect that every single brandblahblah be discounted as well? Anyway, for those of you who bought something at a discount, make sure to do the math and check that ALL the items with brandblahblah were discounted properly (pay special attention to the 1 mL specials).
How old was the email? Several nameless sites had some big “closeout” sales which aren’t promotional-they’re trying to get rid of stuff . And the % off changed over the course of a day or 2. I guess what I don’t understand is why they don’t just keep the original markdown until most of the stuff is gone, so it doesn’t get confusing. And then practically give the dregs away.
Anyway, to answer your question-50% but it sounds like they put the 40% code in the email? Or the discount changed, but they forgot to update the email heading?
I didn’t double check my orders but they were small sums to begin with.
The email was 8/21 @ 4PM, I wrote them @ 6:30PM and got the first reply back 2 full business later 8/23 @ 9PM. They did admit to being sloppy but that still does not justify the nonchalant customer service.
