Good morning! It's Tuesday, and in my neck of the woods, a perfect summer day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Calvin Klein Reveal, one of the (IMHO) better recent fragrances from the brand.
Reminder: on 8/26, wear a fragrance by Calvin Klein, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Misia for me today. It’s so nice outside – for the first time this summer.
Love this one. You smell wonderful!
Thanks. I can’t say I love it, but it’s nice enough.
It’s so nice to finally have all the windows open!
YES! We opened ours last night and I went for a long walk. I’m looking forward to my after work run today.
You smell so pretty!
Thanks. It’s a pretty scent.
You smell amazing
Thanks. As I was driving in to work this morning I wondered what about a lipstick scent was so appealing – well, it’s LIPSTICK scented!
Love.
Thanks Floragal for the TPC sale…I bought 2 decants and between that and the STC guerlain sale its been an expensive perfume week.
Since I don’t have any CK fragrances I am doing the lazy poll from this past weekend.
Lys Noir
Close to skin
Lilly flowers
tuberose
is not a Noir to me
art deco
sandalwood
My in laws are visiting so I am drinking homemade chai.
We are also celebrating raksha bandhan while they are here ( a few days late)..so I will have to get a small gift for my little chunky Buddha to give to my toddler.
I also indulged in the sales at TPC and STC this week.
I couldn’t help myself!
Really, it would have been irresponsible to let the opportunity pass. At least that it what I am telling myself.
Exactly! Although now I’m thinking I need a new sample organization system. I was just wearing what I had in a tray, but they are multiplying exponentially!
Me too. If they are discontinuing things I have on my sample list and offering a discount, it would be foolish not to take the opportunity. I’m pretty sure this is one of those times where I would have been kicking myself for not indulging. I mean, it could save me from an unfortunate blind buy in the future so it’s really a necessary expense 😉
This is bullet proof logic. I have to use that in the future!!
I had to indulge in the Guerlain sale at STC. A decant of Liu, vintage Mitsouko, Apres L’Ondee, and L’Heure Bleue parfum. I didn’t check out quite fast enough to get a decant of Tonka Imperial.
Raksha bandhan!! I’m an only child, but I participated in the past when visiting my cousins in India 🙂 Rakhi (especially gender-neutral rakhi) makes me feel so warm and fuzzy.
all the cousins are considered “brothers” and “sisters”..so tonight my husband will take his female cousin out to dinner as her gift.
It is such a warm gesture..tying the rakhi..offering your protection and love.
It is a summer day where I am too and I am wearing Chanel 1932, trying to decide if I should get a full bottle. I am undecided on this one just because of the lasting power. Every time I wear it I enjoy it a lot but it is gone after an hour.
1932 has no last power on me..starts out strong and then fades fast
1932 is my favorite fab-but-fleeting.
I heard that the Les Exclusifs will be changed to eau de parfum concentration, so maybe wait and see if the new 1932 will last longer.
I’m very curious about the longevity of the majority of the exclusifs in EPD version. I hope they last longer, but I’m also nervous about them being different.
Wearing Fougère Furieuse which is nice enough. I made the mistake of spraying some Sablen my wrist as well, and that is pretty much all I smell.
“Sables on” and not Sablen
But what a fortunate mistake!
It just confirmed how much I love Sables. Mind you the Mugler is good, just doesn’t have the projection (or the longevity) of the Goutal.
Sables is so good! Thank you for bringing us together.
Wazamba, which I’d love a full bottle of some day.
You smell great! Love wazamba.
SOTD TF Venetian Bergomote
Well, I can tell you with certainty that the Wazamba bottle and spray mechanism is straight out of heaven. It’s worth a FB purchase not only for the perfume, but also the most EXCELLENT packaging. Just sayin…
Ah! I do love the PdE bottles….
You know I like the sprayer, but to me the HG of sprayers is Malle. Those things are killer.
They are great. I put makeup brushes in mine.
Also good for chopsticks in kitchen.
Second day in a week of Fragonard; SOTD today is “Eau de Hongrie” and purports to feature bergamot, jasmine, labdanum and amber. Named for the perfume of the 15th century Queen of Hungary, who evidently spent much of her days cleaning up crime scenes alongside the wearer of yesterday’s almost indistinguishable “Beau Gosse”.
If you like modern, clean Penhaligons stuff like Endymion, then (a) you may well like this and (b) seriously, what is wrong with you? :^P
I have Fragonard’s Iris..very nice. I love their soaps and the sample towelettes they give.
Fragonard gets a lot of love, and the shops I visited were friendly and cheerful. I have no great hopes for the 5 male scents I got in their discovery pack – haven’t worn them before this week but decanting them gave me a sneak preview. The women’s selection was wider and seemed more interesting.
My husband wears Fragonard Homme Elegant all the time. He got pursuit at work by someone wanting to know which scent he wore! Apparently it is close to Dior Homme, but I like the Fragonard one much better.
Inevitably, this one isn’t part of the discovery pack! I tried vintage Dior Homme during A House Divided week, when it was okay but struggled with my skin.
It’s even possible some of these Fragonards I have would work on normal skin. I shall never know!
I bought 3 decants from the Jo Malone Rare Teas collection during a sale at STC. Trying out Darjeeling today and it is quite lovely. Floral, a bit of fruit for sweetness, mildly creamy. It is an apt choice for a sunny summer day.
Update: a coworker just asked if they sprayed for bugs because she’d been smelling something like ant spray this morning. I have a bad feeling it’s me she’s smelling.
Well, I think you smell nice. None of the rare teas knocked my socks off, but there weren’t any scrubbers and a couple were very pleasant (but not worth the $). Perhaps your co-worker just has a limited scent vocabulary.
Ouch. I still need to try the Rare Teas…
????????
To add to the TPC and STC events, The Posh Peasant is having a closing out sale ( 🙁 )
25% of with the code farewell
SOTD for a day with unbelievable humidity, Tauer’s Vetiver Dance, which I will forever think of as Vetiver Dan thanks to a typo last week.
yes..also indulged in that. They have decants from the Divine house that I happen to love..
Welp, there goes some more of my money.
Gotta ask a dumb question: what is TPC?
The Perfumed Court – one of the online decant houses
Oh gosh, I shouldn’t have asked. I bought 7 little sprays.
Jo Malone White Jasmine & Mint is my SOTD.
My best friend wears this and it is lovely on her, I am sure on you too!
Thanks! It is very pretty. I’ve tried it in winter, spring and summer. I think I like it more in cooler temperatures.
Back to going through neglected samples. SOTD Byredo Bal d’Afrique. I’m not really feeling it today. It’s one of the few Byredos I’ve tried that I don’t dislike, but today it’s smelling like Cap’n Crunch cereal to me.
Oh dear, that does not sound appealing. Maybe it will settle down soon.
I did like it enough at some point to keep the sample, but it’s just rubbing me the wrong way today. Some people on Fragrantica compare it to Hermes Vetiver Tonka, which I’ve never smelled.
..add milk. 😉
????
Haha!
Eww.. not a nice smell to wear around all day.
Yeah, the only Byredo I’ve liked from the collection is Rose Noir. Nothing else has appealed to me.
I like this one – not as much as Pulp, but I think it’s fun and would be great as a shower gel. But I can completely see how it might not work on the wrong day. (And I think it’s fruitier than Vetiver Tonka, to me it smells like pineapple and vetiver, although the first is not listed among the notes.)
I like it too. To me it smells like a really sweet grapefruit, but admittedly I haven’t smelled it in years and possibly it was reformed.
I definitely get a fruuty/citrus top note, which is the part I like. It may be that the dry/salty vetiver+nutty/sweet tonka register as “cereal” to me. In any event, it’s not unpleasant. I actually find it a bit bland.
This is my second fav after Pulp. I find it really sexy (i am sure Capt’n Crunch smell would be considered sexy by certain segments of the population).
I’m sure. A Lab on Fire Made in Heaven has a pronounced cereal accord(intentional) paired with orange blossom, which was interesting, but I couldn’t wear it.
So funny! I wore it a few weeks ago, and I was getting a lemon sugar cookie scent out of it.
???? Not far off from what I smell.
SOTD is Le Temps d’Une Fete, and weather today is near perfect here as well.
You smell lovely! I wish I’d worn that today.
Thank you! It’s never too late to switch. 😉
SOTD: Cuir de Lancome, so good for this cooler weather.
Can I get a “hallelujah!” NYers, for the change in temp/humidity that’s upon us? I feel like a new person with new energy and happy again.
I know! I’m moving faster than a snail’s pace and feel almost giddy. Amazing what an effect the weather has on mood and energy.
Amazing. 🙂
Hallelujah!
🙂
I think the east coast in general is sighing relief from the humid bog that’s encapsulated us the majority of this summer.
You smell wonderful. That’s a great cool weather scent.
It really is wonderful in this type of weather and more so as we get into fall. Thank you!
Hallelujah, must be why I was extra chipper this morning and I attributed it to coffee.
It’s amazingly sunny and warm here, but I don’t exactly smell weather-appropriate. After reading about Italian perfumes on BdJ, I’m wearing Rubini Fundamental on one hand and Antonio Alessandria Nacre Blanche on the other.
please do tell what you think! I read that article and I am intrigued.
Fundamental is very intriguing – it mostly skips the citrus/fruity part on me and quickly settles down to a low woody hum (although a certain voluptuousness remains, I suspect it’s the grape). The leather and honey in this make it smell sort of animalic on me, although in a very smooth and refined way. It’s probably not for me, but people who like darker vintage scents and are interested in a modern interpretation could find this very pleasing indeed.
In Nacre Blanche, on the other hand, I do smell quite a bit of citrus and greenness. It’s not a tuberose soliflore in the way Fracas or Carnal Flower are (it reminds me more of the latter) I’m not even sure I would have realised it’s a tuberose scent without the prompt. It’s more powdery than creamy and the most interesting thing about it is the addition of leather – it smells like the leather in Bandit to me (probably because the green element present), but much, much softer. I need to try it again, as this is a dabbing vial and we all know what I think about those.
Nacre Blanche is the only one by Alessandria I haven’t tried. I have a FB of Nuit Rouge, which is a favorite.
Fundamental sounds very interesting.
Oh, what is the Nuit Rouge like? If you have a full bottle, I’m interested…
I was just thinking I need to get some decant supplies. I’ll order some and then send you some of my Nuit Rouge.
I’ve talked about it a lot on here before. It’s very citrusy at first – grapefruit and rhubarb – and then settles to a light but very long lasting spicy incense. I tend to get a LOT of incense out of this, but I think more general results are spicy freshness with a wee bit of leather. I’ve read about it being likened to a more spiced up version of Aedes de Venustas (signature fragrance – not L’Artisan) with some sweetness in the dry down and I’d say that’s pretty accurate.
These all sound lovely
Thank you both for the descriptions of these- sound like I need to put them on my to try list.
This sounds great – I didn’t know the line and therefore probably didn’t pay attention to your earlier descriptions. And reading my comment now I realise it sounds like I’m angling for a sample but that’s really not what I meant! We have a significant overlap in our tastes, so I’m therefore interested in everything you find FB worthy, but I’m sure I can sniff it somewhere.
Annikky,
Oh I totally understood what you meant! Yes, we do have a lot of overlapping likes in our perfumes (except Pulp :p). I was thinking though that I’d like to send you something because you were so kind as to send the Chanel+ samples before. I know you have a lot more available to you to test than I do, so I get a little excited by something that I may have that you weren’t aware of or didn’t know about. 🙂
I’m in Dzongkha today, hoping the cloud-cover holds all day.
I signed up for a a wromg class this morning, and the replacement class is on the same days as my other classes. I’m so excited!
Oh, and I made some lovely iced houjicha yesterday. Sipping on some now!
You smell lovely.
We’re having a sort of yin yang weather relation with the East Coast US, often when it is (too) hot there it is (too) cool here and vice versa. Since NY has cooler weather it is very hot and humid here (too much so for me)!
Wearing Rose Delight body oil which is lovely.
I am glad for the NYers much improved weather condition!
Sorry you got our weather, but you smell delicious.
I found several scents that I wanted at the STC and TPC sales. Unfortunately, I’ve already spent way too much this quarter. SOTD is Philosykos, which I’m sampling for the first time.
Like? No like?
Good morning Y’all….happy to report that it will still get in the 90’s here in Atlanta! I LOVE summer, and need the heat! LOL! 🙂 I’m cold natured the rest of the year….
SOTD: Lady Gaga Fame. Meh. It’s perfectly fine, but certainly nothing memorable. But for $7.99 it’s quite nice!
LOL at needing the heat! 😀
And yeah, Lady Gaga Fame is literally something you spray on to go errand running. Pretty, but all the hype is meh.
I am wearing Caron Narcisse Noir in vintage Eau de Cologne. It is probably a bit much for the office, but I have no in person meetings today.
I am drinking iced green tea with mint.
You smell great. Enjoy your day!
Such class.
That sounds delightful especially in an edc concentration which I never knew it came in.
Inspired by the comments yesterday regarding Safran Troublant, I decided to blast myself with it this morning. It does work well in heat and humidity for those who are wondering. It’s quite transparent and diaphanous, but still has presence and good lasting power.
I’m having serious cool weather, open window envy down here in the swamp. Enjoy your lovely weather and abundance of energy and send some down this way, please!
Tomorrow may be a Safran Troublant day for me–you smell great!
Bouquet Massai from Perfume Generale. Also “adequately pretty”.
🙂
A sunny, chilly (for our tropical standards) winter day and I’m wearing Lolita Lempicka. Nice stuff.
I am so curious to try that having heard so many positive comments.
Let us know what you think about it.
Calvin Klein Obsession for Women. One of the finest oriental/amber perfumes created. Really. YMMV
Do not test the current. Not good. Vintage has a completely opaque cap.
Carpe Diem.
Twins!
You smell great! 😉
Carpe Diem, Bear!
Congratulations on the success of the Olympics, solanace!
Thank you, Bear. It was organized by the previous, legitimate government, mind you. 😉
You smell great!
Thanks MikasMinion !
So do you!
Epic Woman is also a fantastic oriental perfume.
I work with a women who has worn Obsession since i have known her, about 22 years. She always smelled wonderful. About two years ago though, I realized i hadn’t noticed it for awhile. Because i am an insane perfume person, it concerned me enough to ask her about it. I said, why are you not wearing Obsession anymore? She said that she was wearing it. I chalked it up to being the newest version.
Yes, I tested the current at Macys.
Watery with low quality ingredients have made it virtually unrecognizable.
They’ve really yanked the heart out of it.
How I can tell is that I used to hate it, I mean HATE and ABHOR and DESPISE it with the loathing of a thousand thousand hatreds, and now when I sniff a bottle to test my courage, I only sort of hate it.
“The loathing of a thousand thousand hatreds” I’m so going to use this line to direct at any future hates. That was awesome.
I don’t understand why she hasn’t noticed a difference. And since she is a one perfume forever lady, I didn’t want to say anything more, and ruin for her.
That’s strange that she hasn’t noticed……….
SOTD is YSL Cinema. Relative to the last few sweltering weeks, it was fall weather last night and this morning. The Cinema sample is out with others that need trying , filing, or new homes. I may need more….
I really like this one, but admit only wear it in the cooler (less than 85F) weather. You smell great.
You smell gorgeous and perfectly matched for fall.
SOTD: L’Homme (Prada). I discovered that I have a mini of Obsession, so I do have a CK in my wardrobe. Not sure if I’ll wear it on Friday, the temps will be high with humidity to match. 🙁
Calvin Klein Obsession. Wearing just one spray considering that the day is cooler and the AC in the office is pretty strong. It was one of my favorite perfumes back in the 80’s. I used to be crazy about it. These days I still appreciate it. I have a mini that I bought 10 years ago but it is not as glorious as it was back then. However, good memories and a smile come to my mind when I rarely wear it.
In the mid-eighties it was spectacular stuff. Reformulations don’t do it justice. I too have a ten-year-old spray mini that’s okay, but only okay.
I love Obsession and have a bottle from the mid ’90’s. I don’t wear it often because it’s so potent. The tiniest spray is enough and anything more is overkill.
I got a mini in the kidney (although it looks more like a nipple) bottle from my cousin who used to work in a perfume company; I don’t know which one because always pretty evasive about it. It was from the late 80s. I hope I haven’t given it away but until I find it (and I have a suspicion it’s in a box I couldn’t get to easily), I can only dream.
You are lucky to have your mini from the 80’s and I hope you find it. I got mine 10 years ago and it is not so good. Latest reformulation is even worse.
Eau Sauvage, which is never the wrong choice, as far as I’m concerned.
Amen.
I just got around to trying this for the first time recently, and it was a major “Where have you been all my life???” moment!
Ha- I felt like that when I discovered it!
I’ve been enjoying it this summer, too. I bought it for the hubs and have been wearing it more than he dies (which is never, actually). You smell great!
Been raining heavily yesterday but the sky cleared and as an added bonus, the temperature cooled with even a little breeze!
SOTD: Knowing. 🙂
Glorious.
Knowing ????????
It was _nice_ weather here in Boston last night and this morning so I’m wearing Oeillet Bengale in hope that the appropriate weather sticks around
Oh, you smell beautiful.
Woot! How was Philly?
Back from Florida and the weather at home is glorious!! I have missed my perfumes and am wearing NV Mohur.
Beautiful.
Mmmm, come sit next to me 🙂
After a truly aggravating day yesterday, we are off to do some completely unnecessary antique shop browsing today. We only came out to Mom’s this week so we could accompany her to a doctor’s appointment yesterday and when we got there the doctor refused to see her because he only specializes in shoulders now. Since he was the surgeon who repaired her spine and elbow, gave her the X-rays, and told her to come back every ten years for a checkup, we were really annoyed that the person who scheduled the appointment didn’t mention this tiny change. We spent almost the entire day sitting in the hospital, waiting for them to give us a referral to the new spinal specialist and now we have to go back next week. It’s a two hour drive each way, plus the three hours for us to get to Mom’s, so my husband was most put out.
I’m very glad I didn’t remember to perfume yesterday because today I’m making up for it with a Waterdragon-sized dose of Epic. I hope nobody in the antique store is perfume phobic.
After the day you had yesterday, who cares if they are!?
Wow, what a fiasco, so sorry.
What a bad day and what a terrific perfume remedy.
That does sound frustrating. Hope the browsing and the Epic forcefield restore you today.
Ugh, how utterly aggravating indeed! You deserve the shower of perfume!
Sorry about the day yesterday and at least you smell wonderful today.
Thanks, y’all. Today more than made up for yesterday. We found a fabulous black and white ceramic panther lamp for an excellent price (even though it will need all new hardware, the base has only one tiny chip), so my husband is happy. The rest of the stuff was terribly overpriced but fun to browse and the antique-shop cat was very friendly. I also had pancakes for lunch 😀 and everyone knows that breakfast for lunch or supper makes everything better.
Glad the day turned for the better! I was hoping as I read your post there’d be a special find waiting for you at the antique shop.
Pancakes !!!
Always a great meal ! 😀
Ugh about yesterday! Now would they be so kind as to reimburse you for at least the gas, never mind the time and aggravation? After all, don’t some medical clinics charge a fee for no shows?
Same weather as yesterday and I am in Kyoto which seems to pair with wet, chilly days just as well as with warm, dry ones.
I love Kyoto. A beautiful incense scent!
Very beautiful. A lot of the time I get more steamy cedar but today the incense is in the forefront.
After spending yesterday in vintage no 19, I’m wearing Cuir de Russie. I think that the tester EDP of no 19 is probably from the ’80’s but it smells great. Right now, I am drooling over a bottle of Dior Granville. I’m saying not to it right now because even though it’s an 8.5 ounce bottle it’s $300. Just can’t afford it right now. Maybe after Christmas.
You smell wonderful. Those Dior privees are tempting aren’t they? I don’t think I’ve smelled Granville yet, but I like many of the others. And such a bargain, really!
It is a bargain but I seem to have blown through my perfume budget. What I admire and respect about Dior is that their prices per ounce are not out there like Chanel has gotten.
Simply gorgeous day today! Sotd is Commodity Mimosa. I really do love this one.
How is the staying power and projection? I have been flirting with their fragrances, but have not pulled a plug.
I have this in a spray pen, and spray about 4 or 5 sprays. I would say I get about four hours out of Mimosa. As for projection, with that many sprays, it’s probably medium. It is just so darn pretty. The other one i like is Commodity Gold. I would say these are similar to Atelier Orange Sanguine and Vanilla Insensee. The Commodity lasts longer on me, and feels deeper.
Wearing Mohur today, which ought to make for a great day! But coupled with my nightmarish headache (bordering on mild migraine?), it’s unfortunately overwhelming.
Knowing that Trayee makes me feel ill (though it’s beautiful right up until I get nauseous), I’m a bit worried that my headache is actually perfume-induced. Not an appealing possibility when you already have an FB. 🙁
I am sorry to hear about you and Trayee – it is such a beauty. The sandalwood in it is incredible.
Trayee is really special. It took me a LOOOOONG time to accept that I needed to avoid it like the plague
If it makes you feel any better, I have a nice new bottle of No. 18 that smells lovely for almost two minutes, then suddenly causes a good old queasy headache 🙁 You have my sympathy.
Ugh, no fun at all. If only headaches could be reserved for scents we don’t like
Sometimes Mohur is the most beautiful and happy making thing I’ve ever smelled, but every once in a while it is too much and inspires a slight queasy headache. Let’s hope this is a one off for you!
I think you can swap some mLs away.
Ahhhh no, that’s so sad!!! That’s how I feel about Ambre Narguilé, but luckily I don’t own a FB of that. Do you know what note in Trayee gives you the headache? At least it’ll be super easy for you to swap or sell your Mohur 🙂
Tuesday! Huzzah!
1) Did the final walk through for the house yesterday. The sellers did all the small repairs I requested, and the appraisal came in higher than the asking price- a good $20K higher.
2) Last minute mortgage foolishness. I am trying to NOT grind my teeth.
3) Am in Chanel Eau Premiere- layered over homemade jasmine/rose oil. Perfect for focusing on a moderately warm summer day.
Congrats on almost closing. Exciting times!!
YIKES!
Almost there, hang tight!
I am hanging on with my fingernails!
Congrats on the house stuff. You are in the final stretch! You smell great.
I hope I don’t stumble! Thanks! 😀
Congrats…now I want to know which perfume you picked to celebrate the achievement.
Hey Lovely Lady!
Despite the bs of the origin story, I am really pulled to Black Jade- it’s a lovely, lovely scent, and the bottle is so glam!
Do not own any of Calvin Klein in my collection. For some reason, his fashion house irks me – clothes, perfumes etc. I have tended to stay away away away from anything he makes :). Plus I truly hated his fragrances in the 90’s – everyone would be blasting themselves with Eternity or Obsession.
SOTD Ylang 49. Debating if I should go in on a split of some of the city exclusives. I do want my own bottle of Vanille, but man it is so pricey!!!!!
Basenotes…although it takes a while for the splits to fill.
I do love his bras and jeans….
The Perfume Court is having 50% off closeout sale with code “halfoff”. Getting some samples and decants…….
It’s a perfect summer day here, too…I tried Reve en Cuir last night and the sweet cinnamon/clove leather lasted quite a while. This morning to get ready for 8 hours of driving o spritzed a little keiko mechieri Jasmine, but for the rest of this trip it will just be a couple of decants on the road with me. Unobtrusively dosed for research trip purposes…
Oh, the Reve en Cuir sounds lovely!
SotD = Geisha Vanilla Hinoki.
I remember enjoying CK Reveal on a magazine scent strip. It was nice enough that I wanted to find a tester, but I never did. Time for a trip to the shopping mall.
The “I _______ in #mycalvins” ads are #strange.
I liked reveal and I think I swapped Burberry Body for Reveal but I don’t know where it is!
Wearing No. 19 Poudre today…
Was 69 lovely degrees downstairs in my house this morning. 🙂
I’ve been on a green bender lately, helped along by my recently arrived green fragrances sample pack from LuckyScent, which has been pretty great and only involved one scrubber. Today I’m in DSH’s gorgeous Celadon, a green that aims to conjure greenness without resorting to galbanum. I do love galbanum, but I also love this plush swirl of violet leaf and who knows what else. It’s a perfume that conjures both dewy springtime and soft, cuddly blankets — perfect for a little comfort and cheer on this chilly, drippy grey summer fog morning.
This sounds nice. I love me some green.
Another gorgeous day in the hood so I am wearing Myths Woman to celebrate. I think that I need to get a decant of MW since dabber samples are pretty useless for judging new scent. I decided to try it after reading Angela’s review. It is pretty but the longevity isn’t great especially for Amouage prices.
I tested it, and MM, on skin in a shop last month last month, and it was only a whisper about an hour and a half later. It is a pretty green and I preferred it to the MM, which lasted much longer.
Thanks Elisa! I could smell MW pretty well upon application but it faded on me too within a few hours. Lovely while it lasted.
Back from a lovely and relaxing and almost wireless-free vacation and not feeling happy about going back to work. Wearing Fille de Berlin which I find very cheering and it has just cooled off enough to wear. Back to steamy here tomorrow.
It is actually lovely in these here parts 🙂
I think you were on the Cape, weren’t you? My mom has selective hearing and was telling me that she heard that the Obamas were vacationing in Martha’s Barnyard 🙂
Now that’s funny. ????
Your story reminds me of my mother-in-law who routinely said the funniest things. When my husband and I were dating, I would call his mother’s house looking for him and she would tell me to call him on his xylophone. ???? I miss her.
All these malaprops!
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
I’ve come to the conclusion that if there were to be a perfumapocalypse and I can only save one bottle, it will be No. 19 EDP. It is not the most precious (in terms of current availability and cost) but it is one that I’ve reached for most often since March 2015 regardless of weather and time of day and occasion. It had never garnered compliments but t has never offended either.
It matches my OOTD: Pistachio button-down LS cotton shirt from Lands End, black slacks from Coldwater Creek (R.I.P. brick and mortar stores) that hug my curves in just the right places, Coach Legacy bangle (one of the stripes perfectly matches the color of my shirt) and double-loop diamond huggies.
This all sounds perfect and I know what you mean about Chanel 19 although sometimes a few others call my name…
Well, if you ask me tomorrow, I may save a different perfume altogether 😉
I complimented someone at work on No 19 at work-so it does get compliments 😉 I remember Coldwater. I bought mostly earrings there.
Hee! I work with heathens (except the one who wears POAL) who can’t tell the difference between Axe and quality perfume 🙂 !
Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles. I was a bit afraid of how it would smell in warm weather, but it turned out to be wonderful.
That is such a lovely scent.
It is! It’s my favorite of the SLs that I have (the other two being La Fille de Berlin and La Vierge de Fer), and feel that I doesn’t get the love it deserves where I live, since too many people here think it smells “churchy”
because of incense. My hairdresser seems to be the the only other person to like.
RUSH
Places to go, people to see 🙂
Coucou les amis, it’s been a while since I’ve spent any time on NST! Vacation is tiring 🙂 I spent a week camping in Yosemite, then feverishly hanging out with Bay Area friends while stuffing all available food in my face. I even got the chance to go to Tigerlily with Pixel! I think she’s already mentioned it on NST, but I’ll add that the shop is absolutely lovely and is staffed by people who are even lovelier (the marvelous Antonia talked to us FOREVER), and if you find yourself in SF, you must check it out.
I’m not really back to NST; I’m at a condensed matter conference in Bordeaux this week, and the physics is just flying over my head. Seriously, I haven’t thought about this stuff since college. I’ve spent half my time at this conference on Wikipedia looking up all the jargon everyone’s tossing about.
I just wanted to say that on my way back to my charming little hotel next to the opera house, I came across a perfume shop! Obviously I stepped in, and I saw SL Baptême du Feu. I had just read Angela’s review of it earlier today during the 20th mention of the Schrödinger equation (seriously!), so I decided to try it on. Hmm…a bit headache-inducing, at least in this heat. It doesn’t remind me of 5 O’Clock Gingembre at all, actually. It’s a very molasses-y ginger on me, gingerbread baked with orange peels that have been sugared beyond recognition. I think it’ll be worth a try in winter, but right now, it just makes me feel a bit ill.
Good you’re back Koyel, and hang in there with all this Schrodinger stuff, sounds ever so impressive 😉
Bapteme de Feu sounds right up my alley! I am scheming to get a (free) sample 🙂
Enjoy the rest of your conference. I was in Bordeaux many years ago and had lunch across the street from a winery. It was where I had my first taste of fresh figs, prosciutto and parmesan cheese dotted with balsamic vinegar glaze.
That sounds delicious 🙂
You know, it reminds me very much of Ambre Narguilé. To my synesthete’s mind, they look the same. I’m still not sure if that means they share notes or just some mysterious underlying qualities.
Eeek, just realized I meant Burgundy and not Bordeaux!
Ibteresting about looking the same vs smelling the same. Its similarities to a number of perfumes either means it is not anything special or it could mwan that it’s a chameleon.
Greetings and salutations! My father used to say that to me when he saw me after his day at work and my (sporadic) days at school — i bunked off as much as I could get away with it, and I got away with heaps. I’ve been thinking of Dad a lot, because I’ve been rather grimly battling through a thesis about national identity and the Gallipoli exhibition at Te Papa– not that he fought at Gallipoli because hadn’t been born, but because the of candidate’s conclusions about the attributes of the Kiwi character.
So. Dad loved fishing and fish to eat (shudder) and once started the building of a twenty-three foot boat in the second sitting room–mum had litter after litter of multi-coloured kittens until he organised a boat shed outside to work in. Anyhow, after all that preamble, I wanted to smell of the sea to keep my thoughts of Dad going, so I’m wearing Epice Marine. It’s …. odd, but I like it. Not enough for a FB on its own, but if I buy another of those sets of 4 15ml bottles, it might well be the fourth bottle.
Today I have the rare pleasure of being a guest at a lecture instead of giving it. Such fun– I’ve been asked to interject and turn it into a conversation, but I won’t be the main performer. Sounds great to me!
Thanks for a further glimpse into your day, waterdragon! I can’t wear Epice Marine – all I smell is cumin / body odor.
This is Day 4 of Dame Perfumery Cassis, Rose & Sandalwood and the last day of my San Diego vacay. Both have been very enjoyable.
One of my favorite Dame’s; I must get my bottle out soon. Glad you got a ballgame in, one of my favorite things to do when visiting other cities. Have a safe trip home!
Glad you had a great time. Safe flight!
I noticed the first grape hyacinths in the garden yesterday. And I saw a sparrow tug a stray feather out of a duvet I was airing to feather its nest…I can’t even fathom how birds build nests with nothing more than a beak and claws. It’s difficult for me to get my bed to look ‘made’ most days. Stormy outside. The rain is battering the roof so I might start the day in Plum.
Some birds even use their spit – I don’t know if they all do. Not to gross anyone out but “Bird’s Nest” Soup is an authentic Chinese delicacy. I think only certain species of birds qualify – e.g. Swallows
Ashoka today which I rather like- it is dabbed from a sample and clearly I need to try it sprayed. All gone after a swim but it even worked well in the late blast of real summer we are enjoying in the UK.
I’m almost positive I’ll be in London late December / early January. Would love to meet up with some NSTers if time and schedule permit!
I’d be up for it – let us know!
And a PSA, but not a $ saving one, for anyone in NYC: Bergdorf’s has the new Perris Monte Carlo Absolue d’Osmanthus-the tester, anyway. Stock hasn’t come in. I’d been checking the website in antipication of this one, though it’s still not listed, so I swung by at lunch to check anyway. So far, I like it, but needs closer attention. The SA was also very generous with samples.
This is on my must sniff list. Please share your thoughts at some point!
The gift card event is coming up Sept 12 to 17 or thereabouts. Maybe we can consolidate our purchases to get the higher discount???
Sotd: LaP Fleur de Oranger. Thank you Ann E for the introduction to this lovely perfume!
It’s a breezy and beautiful summer day here, too. Windows wide open! SOTD is one of my late summer breezy and beautiful favorites, C&E Sonoma Valley. Nectarine, fig, mimosa, grape leaves, happy memories of a hot air balloon ride at dawn in the wine country!
Nice visuals, Laila!
I am wearing Kelly Caleche eat…on a leather binge lately.
edt…darn auto correct
Oooh, what leathers have you worn lately? Kelly Caleche EDP is a very soft leather on me. The extrait is slightly more intense.
