Happy Almost-Friday, and a very happy 80th birthday to Robert Redford! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Byredo Flowerhead. I'd sort of forgotten how pretty it is, but to my mind, it is too middle-of-the-road to qualify as perfect (or as something I'd be dying to own). I'd amp up the leather notes just a bit, and give the florals more bite.
Reminder: 8/19 will be Perfect Friday — wear a fragrance that is nearly perfect, and tell us how you would change it (or, layer it!) to make it completely perfect.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Robert Redford..makes me want to go watch Out of Africa..I do have the soundtrack on my computer.
I am in Coco Noir Body Creme, its very lovely
A lovely day to all of you!
I must have watched Out of Africa 300 times. The minute I hear the music I am transported. The first thing I did in Kenya was go to Karen to see her house.
SOTD TF Reve d’ambre.
Lovestosmellgood, succumbed to the siren song of a new lip product yesterday, YSL’s Vinyl Cream. Applied lightly and rubbed in, it’s not nearly as shiny as shown on Sephora’s site. Rouge Vinyle/401 is a winner.
I just looked, its it more of a berry red then a red red?
yep, more of a berry
It is an amazing soundtrack.
Have you tried the Coco Noir parfum? I liked the EDP ok but never tried the parfum but many have raved about it. Chanel has great body creams I just worry I won’t go through it fast enough and it may turn. Such problems I know… 😉
I like the parfum and not the EDP as much.
The creme is delicious, in fact I would rather wear that then the fragrance. I have had mine for awhile and it has not turned. It has a silky texture and doesn’t irritate my skin.
oh..I love lip colors! Thanks for the suggestion!
My favorite movie ever. How can he be 80??
SOTD Hermes Eau des Merveilles. I have not been able to fall in love with this fragrance like most people have, after so many years of testing it. There is something about it that puts me off all the time. The amber note is very prominent on me and for moments I feel kind of suffocated. But I don’t think is the amber what is causing that uneasiness on me. I just wonder what it is. I know it is a beautiful scent and I hope someday I am able to really appreciate it.
Maybe the “ambergris” note (quotes because I don’t think it’s real, but who knows)? That one is a favorite of mine, but I can see how it may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
I haven’t smelled a Hermes Amber that didn’t give me that slightly anxious gaggy feeling. I blame the ambergris accord because I have gotten the same reaction from several scents that claim to contain real ambergris.
I think that is why I do not get along with Mandy Aftel’s creations…
Interesting. I think it was Pixel who said the same thing. I get along fine with some Aftel’s and not at all with others, and I am wondering if it is the ambergris as well.
“Slightly anxious gaggy feeling” is a spot-on description for how some fragrances make me feel, though fortunately Eau des Merveilles isn’t one of them. 🙂
I have sampled it at least half a dozen times in Sephora because everyone loves it so….keep waiting for the “a-ha!” moment…..
I’m right there with you. I keep retesting, but so far….nothing.
I will check closely the ambergris accord in other perfumes. That might be the reason why I cannot enjoy this fragrance.
I’ve hesitated to say anything as the Merveilles get so much love. I only tried 2 or 3 once in Saks New Orleans, but got an odd note, something that seemed synthetic to me, pretty quickly, maybe in 5 or 10 minutes.
I often make my choices based on a line and whether I’ve had good luck with several of its scents. But lately it seems 3 or 4 might not agree with me but others do. So possibly an ingredient (or combo thereof). But what to do, can’t try every scent in every line? And it could take me another 20 years to ID said ingredient(s)! I’ve found this with L’Artisan and Hermes. I do notice lighter scents agree with me more often.
Dune Christian Dior Esprit de Parfum, the eccentric cousin of the perfume universe.
Endearing, once or twice a year.
I always think of the Seinfeld in which, Jerry dates the model for “Calvin Klein The Beach “,when wearing Dune. LOL
😀
The Beach was Kramer’s name for it, Ocean by Calvin Klein was its ‘actual’ name.
More COFFEE! !! STAT !!!
LOL. 😉
I find that so many occurrences in my life have me recalling Seinfeld episodes. Which is good, because I’m able to laugh through them. I don’t know this version of Dune, but I’m sure you smell fantastic.
???? I’ve never tried this version. How does it compare to the original?
Thanks lillyjo and Elisa P !!
It is the EDT with the notes condensed with no room between them.
I feel the EDT is truer to the spirit of Dune, airy with ample diffusion.
😀
Thanks! No need to hunt it down, then. I’m perfectly satisfied with the original.
I am wearing Aesop Mystra, which would be perfect for me if it were still available as I am almost done with my decant.
I am drinking Lupicia Momo Oolong Super Grade which is very peachy both in aroma and taste. Nice for a change of pace.
Robert Redford….aging quite nicely….I have a thing for older men! 🙂
SOTD: Clean Skin. LOVE THIS. LOVE THIS. LOVE THIS! There’s not much to it, and that’s the beauty of it. It just makes me smell nice, without making any kind of statement. Sometimes that is all that’s required! 🙂
I agree. Clean Skin is one of the few unsolicited GWP samples I haven’t immediately tossed in the giveaway pile. As I recall it is a nice, slightly salty musky skin scent. You smell gooood!
Clean often gets a bad rap but there are a few that I actually liked (Clean Provence and Clean White Woods come to mind)…will have to try Skin next time I am in Sephora…I think they make really good non-offensive office scents to wear when you don’t know what to wear!
Some of the older Philosophy fragrances were like that…I used to wear Pure Grace and Inner Grace as mainly non offensive office fragrances and always got a ton of compliments….
I still like Pure Grace and always complement people who wear it, because they just smell nice.
Agreed…it is one of those fragrances that you can wear anytime and anywhere…it almost reminds me of really great smelling soap :)..just pure and simple!
You smell like a perfect hug. I really think that is what Clean is going for.
I love this one too, Jada! It’s pleasant and interesting enough and not likely to offend…and sometimes I want that versus the big guns. 🙂 It’s one I can spritz in the morning when I know I’ll be going to the gym in awhile (and don’t want to waft sweaty Fracas around) or getting on mass transit in the summer. It’s also very nice as a relaxing/sleep scent.
Robin, you smell good and I totally agree about amping up the flowers in that one. I liked it too, but it definitely was just an “eh” floral.
I’m in EL Sensuous. Using up the mini of this one now and it seemed appropriate for a warm, rainy day.
Then again, I do think the reason Byredo does so well is that they mostly stick to middle of the road. I am quite sure taking my fragrance advice is not a road to success 🙂
A cloudy day with showers here in Paris. I am wearing Ys Uzac “Métaboles” which Kanuka mentioned way back in February, prompting me to get the sample pack.
Well, we all know the vagaries of human skin (especially mine). Others have described this as a lovely fresh green scent with tomato leaf/ geranium/ mint/ freshly-shelled peas. On me, it’s somewhere between mouthwash and peppermint butter icing. If I spray on A LOT then for a short time there’s something more like a mint tea with floral overtones.
I once had Joop! “What About Adam?”, long discontinued I believe, which was tomato leaf to the Nth degree. I don’t get that note at all from Métaboles, which also fails to last and fails to project. Ah well! :^)
I wore Joop! for Women when it first came out but had no idea that “What About Adam?” had a predominant tomato leaf note…had I known I would have snatched up a bottle! Even though discontinued it might still be in the online discount perfume sites.
Did some investigating and a 45 dollar bottle (retail value) sells for close to 100 or more on ebay…I’ll pass!
You can get it on eBay UK for around £100. I’m sure there’s some reason why I never got a 2nd bottle, but I just ordered a 5ml mini for £15. As much to remind myself why I didn’t replace it back then, as to experience that intense tomato leaf again (aging and reformulations permitting). When I was a kid I used to look after a row of tomato plants in the conservatory – under glass the smell of those leaves was really something.
What About Adam? was a Calice Becker perfume (not that I would have known her from a bowl of cheese at the time).
Top: mint, cassia, grapefruit, lemon and tomato leaf
Mid: sandalwood, lavender, cedar and geranium
Base: labdanum, vanilla, oakmoss and vetiver.
On re-reading those notes, doesn’t that sound scrumptious? :^)
Goodness that sounds divine!
I had ordered two 10ml decants from the Posh Peasant (which ended up lost/stolen as per the United States Postal Service) of Pucci Vivari Sole 149 which also had a very pronounced tomato leaf note…used to sell for a song at Sephoras but I never bought a full bottle thinking it would always be there…now sells on ebay for close to 300 USD last I looked…but I have to remind myself that it is OK to lament old losses and move on to try to find new things that are similar, right?
Another great discontinued tomato leaf accord fragrance is Annick Goutal’s Folavril (which also has mango and baronia)….that one makes an appearance once in a while in the AG boutiques….
Yves Rocher Voile d’Ambre, which I find very pleasing and think of as a no brainer. In spite of that, I can easily play this week’s game with it: would love it to be smokier and darker in the dry down.
Yes!
Yves Rocher cousin – Cuir Vetiver for me.
Shaal Nur, always appropriate, and I wouldn’t change a thing about it.
Shaal Nur is lovely. You smell fantastic!
yes, agreed! it is perfect.
Hello, scent twin! You smell fantastic!
Redford – delicious. Great photo.
I’m in a thorough application of 19 EDT in an effort to get through another ridiculously busy day at work. Argggghh.
You smell great!
I love 19!
No 19 EDT is perfect for busy “aargh” work days. Hope it helps!
Today is the Back to School Fair here at the library, with several hundred people coming through the library for three hours. We give away school supplies among other things, so this is super popular. I’m wearing Timbuktu, because I was reminded how great it is even in summer.
You smell great, and what a great library!
Library-to-library shout out! Sounds like a great idea for a program. I might steal it! I just returned from the first annual school librarians-public librarians summit meeting. It was great to share ideas.
I can’t even say how much I love my local library….It’s one of my very favorite stops to make every week or so! 🙂
And Timbuktu is awesome too!
What a gorgeous photo!
Wearing L’Impacte de pour un homme, which is perfect, and my favourite lavender.
Tea is a white Nepal tea with some orange blossom added. It makes for a nice soothing beverage.
I add orange blossom to my teas as well..
Sounds lovely.
Happy Birthday to Robert Reford. He’s been very active inside and out of the film world, while staying under the radar, as much as someone who looks like him can :-D.
Le Temps d’Une Fete by Parfums de Nicolai. Just about perfect. Perhaps in a few years, I could figure out how to improve it. But I’m not there yet!
It would be perfect if it was still available 🙁
Yes. I was fortunate to nab a bottle when I read about the discontinuation.
It is still available, you can order it online!
Couvent des Minimes Eau du Cloitre. Perfect scent for mowing the lawn on a still, super muggy day. Roses, mild geranium, and minty fresh herbs. I am really astonished that mint isn’t a listed note and that cedar is. I may look like something dragged from a swamp but I smell like a fairytale cottage garden.
Ha. Am not familiar with this line. Looked it up. Rose with ginger? Sounds great. Can you smell the ginger?
I don’t get any ginger from that one. It’s as Lizzie described: light, fresh, and tangy rose. Very summery.
I can smell something that resembles ginger flower more than ginger. Perhaps very freshly dug, mild ginger. It’s mostly a fresh, light herbal rose. I’ve seen a lot of references to it as a watered-down Florabotanica, but I don’t see the resemblance. Ulta usually carries the line and has a 1oz splash version for $16. It is a very light fragrance, great as a linen spray if it doesn’t suit as a personal fragrance. It isn’t a powerhouse scent by any stretch of the imagination, but it lasts longer than I would expect.
This one doesn’t seem to get the love the vanilla does, but I love it too. It’s my favorite in that line. It is especially wonderful right after shower on a hot day. I also used it on my sheets recently. I mostly get a light fresh rose, rose and more rose.
Oakland Fresca, you can find it in CVS or Walgreens or on the online site, where they have sales….
Oooh…sounds like something I should check out.
Agree with every word on Flowerhead.
I’m wearing Chanel Eau de Cologne and I have to admit this is pretty much my perfect cologne.
It is a wonderful cologne, but it lasts no time at all. I it stuck around longer, I would own a FB.
That is THE perfect cologne.
You smell great 🙂
You smell great. It doesn’t last long, but if you carry it with you, it’s just so pleasing and refreshing to spritz throughout the day ( albeit $$).
It is fabulous but fleeting.
I so remember reading in some thread on Basenotes or elsewhere about the upcoming changes to the Exclusifs that an SA said Eau de Cologne will be going away entirely. This could be completely wrong of course as many things on the intertubes turn out to be false but it has made me ponder getting a full bottle.
I heard the same rumour about No 18, and my FB arrived this morning.
If so, it’s a good thing I accidentally blind-bought no. 18. Mine is due to arrive this evening and I really hope I like it.
A happy accident! 😉 Let us know what you think. I have a sample I am working through and have enjoyed it.
I just ordered an exclusif from the Chanel Boutique in NYC and the SA told me that NONE of the Exclusifs range will be disco’d. However, she did say that six of the Exclusifs will be offered in Parfum Extrait concentration. I asked her opinion about purchasing the current EDT vs the Extrait and she told me that there really wasn’t a huge difference and to stick with the current EDT. She seemed very honest and friendly but really, who knows? Still debating as to weather to purchase 31 Rue or No 22 before September.
whether… ugh…
No22!
Jus’ sayin’ !
😉
No. 22 is the bomb!
Definitely no 22!!!! and if you are looking to lower the cost with a split count me in!
I’m going to disagree and say 31 Rue Cambon – I think it’s one of the best scents ever made, extremely versatile and beautifully balanced. Perfect for the office, too. But you should of course buy the one you want more????
One of each, is my vote ???? I’m sure you could split some off of each to cover the cost.
Eau de Cologne Eau de Parfum just doesn’t sound right to me.
One of my French high school teachers loved Robert Redford, and we’d get bonus points in oral quizzes if we said, “The most handsome actor in the world is Robert Redford.” (I prefer Paul Newman, but Mr. Redford is quite lovely.)
I’m wearing Rose Ikebana; I have the rare good luck of the Hermessences lasting a long time on me, and the rhubarb note in this is great. This would be perfect if it wasn’t so dang expensive. Any ideas for similar light, citrussy-rhubarby roses?
Bexca where do you live? I have a small bottle of Rose Ikebana that would receive the love from you that it isn’t quite getting from me. But I don’t think I can get it safely across the Atlantic and perfumeborder police.
Oh, that’s very sweet! I’m in Boston, Massachusetts, but you’re in Europe if I recall correctly?
Yeah, and I’m afraid it will get stuck somewhere. But I will keep you in mind, the opportunity of a mule may present itself 😉
Yeah, I’ve had issues just with samples within the US, so getting stuck is a real possibility. Thanks for keeping me in mind, though!
Wearing Comme des Garcons Leaves: Lily today.
Such a perfect floral scent, and I do get the green leaf bottom note.
When CdG gets it right, they really do.
Yes they do! And that whole series layered nicely.
SOTD is SSS Jour Ensoleillé, which I do believe is perfect yet somehow even better layered with a few small sprays of SL A la Nuit.
Yowza! Jour Ensoleille is my deserted island scent…you smell amazing!
Jour Ensoleille is on my list for FB one of these days. You smell wonderful!
I love JE when it works for me, but when it doesn’t it realllllly doesn’t. You smell great!
That does sound like a wonderful combination.
I recently finished my purse spray of this. Eventually need to get more.
Happy Thursday! Visiting family in blazing hot Florida and not sure that any scent I brought will work. I did not bring many choices, so it will be Diptyque Getanium Odorata again.
I wore that in the evening over the weekend and I think it also serves as a mosquito repellant! My husband got devoured, but I wasn’t touched ????
Wow! Great alternative to bug spray. Thanks for the tip!
I really like G.O. Good choice.
Suffering from a bit of sample ennui–not that I need another scent to fall for. Didn’t really care for the new Prada Femme I spritzed at Nordstrom. Began promisingly with tropical florals, but quickly turned into pure beeswax.
For those of you who prefer nonchemical deodorants, Lucky Vitamin now has perfumista-worthy sounding options, Vetiver & Spice and Lady Fern from the Common Sense Farm brand. Am tempted by the Valencia orange body wash, but looks like the only option is a 64 oz jug–quite a commitment!
Agreed on the new Prada.
1) I tried the Femme scent too- and I agree; it totally turned waxy and oily, and not in a good way.
2) 64 ounces will last you for several years!
L’Homme Prada is 100x better!
My college bound niece was laughing this morning as she lent me one of her Bath and Body Works scents for tomorrow’s challenge…she has really made me eat my words-LOL!
SOTD- Assam of India (only six more rows of elephants left until I finish the bottle)
Testing- Vanille Insensee on a base of Pacifica Mexican Cocoa…really liking this….
You smell great. I like the elephant counting 🙂 .
I am actively working on finishing the bottle…the elephant rows are a great way to keep track-LOL!
Wow! Redford is 80 years old. What a handsome man he was and still is!
In wearing 31 Rue Cambon today.. it’s been too long.
I wore that one to a beach party in CT last weekend and it really held up in the heat..31 RC is so elegant.
I am nervous about all this talk about the Chanel’s changing that line I am tempted to get a bottle, but I am still working on my decant so I feel like its a waste of $.
Elegant is the right word for it.
I too have plenty left in my decant. It’s my 3rd one, but it lasts a long time since I can’t seem to stop trying (and buying) other new scents.
Same here. Especially since I prefer it dabbed now. There’s a pungent green note that I get too much of when I spray.
You smell wonderful!
I dab too 😉
Trying this, because I’m a lucky lady who was given a decant, and everyone calls it perfect. So far, so good. and hopefully will last a long time and not upset the office where I’ll be working this afternoon…
It lasts quite well on me (one spray will last most of a day, especially if a bit hits clothing, too), so fingers crossed for you.
Hi, twin! You smell lovely!
Lorenzo Villoresi Tropicana which smells better on me than when I sniff the bottle
It’s my son’s first birthday today, too! One whole time around the sun — how did we ever make it? I’m wearing Amouse Bouche in honor of the whole cake-and-birthday theme.
Happy Birthday to him! I feel like I just read that you gave birth on NST a few weeks ago (kidding but time does fly)
My little meatball is 7 months today and he is growing so fast -make me happy and sad all at the same time. Enjoy your day today, and don’t worry about the fragrance and try to hold on to the baby head smell..
Oh, his smell! Everyone says that babies smell “good,” but no one told me they smell like caramel custard and honey nougat!!
Happy first Birthday to your son. Enjoy the day!
Oh, happy 1st to your son! My son turns 18 on Monday and I can literally still remember him swinging in his wind up cradle 2 feet from where I am sitting now — you are not going to believe how quickly it goes.
Happy Birthday little guy!
Congrats!
Happy 1st birthday to him. Such delights!
Happy birthday. Enjoy the day!
Happy 1st birthday to your son!
Happy Birthday to your son!!!
Happy Birthday to your little one!
Awwww, how cute!
Happy first birthday!
Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile EdP which is pretty perfect.
I love the EDT. I need to spend some time with the EDP to see the difference.
I think both are lovely, the EdP has more longevity on my skin, and a somewhat lovelier dry down.
It really is perfect, isn’t it?
Yes, I am very glad Ann S. send me samples of it, I was immediately smitten.
wearing Darcy by parfums de marly. I really love this one for some reason, it’s like a trashy/heavier version of Coco Mademoiselle. at least that’s what I always think when I wear it, but I haven’t compared it on skin to Coco Mademoiselle or Angel.
…trashier/heavier… 🙂
Wearing LUSH Smell of Weather Turning (in the hopes that it actually does 😛 )
Good luck to us all!!
1) Thank you all for the words of encouragement and support yesterday. Deeply appreciated!
2) For the next few days the planet Vulcan will be making an appearance here in Portland, so refreshing fragrances will be key. BUT- I am in Niki St.Phalle today, which is working wonderfully in the early morning heat. We shall see if it can last to the 101F (yes) temps we get today.
3) OOTD: White cotton dress and clogs.
LOve love love NIki!!!! Another blast from my past as I plowed through at least 3 bottle of it in the 80s (I was a bit more monogamous back then)…you smell great!
Hope you are feeling better 🙂
Hey there!
1) This is a very lovely and wearable fragrance! At first it was weird to me (the saffron and mint notes) but overall this is a lovely soft chypre.
2) Thank you so much! I do feel better- words of encouragement and several laps in the pool work wonders, it does!
Almost chose the same frag…! Perhaps I would have been better served. Sigh.
It really suits the early morning warmth, and will probably burn away to a skin scent by midday. Which is fine.
Over applied Bal A Versailles from a mini. A bit of an inauspicious beginning for the day. I am writing a strategic plan for an organization, which so far had been light both on strategy and on plan. But you can probably smell me a room or two away….writing flannel.
There is no such thing as over applying vintage Bal.
Was just wistfully thinking a few days ago about my Dad’s favourite movie, “The Sting”, and the great, long piece one of the best pop journalists ever, Grover Lewis, did on my beloved Paul Newman during the making of that movie — so interesting to read now about Redford as the young guy on the make. A very memorable portrait of Robert Shaw is included in that piece, too, and Lewis later interviewed Shaw again, during the making of “Jaws”. And my mind meandered on to Redford’s “Quiz Show”, which was one of my favourite movies when I was a teenager. Haven’t watched it in a very long while but I think that was the first time I fell in love with Ralph Fiennes.
Flowerhead is a *perfect* nearly perfect scent!
I once had a dream where Ralph Fiennes in Quiz Show asked me out. It was really hard to wake up from that dream.
Is the Lewis piece you’re thinking of “The Redoubtable Mr. Newman” in RS?
The piece was indeed “The Redoubtable Mr. Newman”, which, for some reason, was not included in the recent Lewis best-of anthology “Splendor in the Short Grass” (although that collection is really worth reading otherwise). I once took a reference copy of “Academy all the Way” out of the special collections for an afternoon in the reading room, and laughed and laughed and have often thought since I should buy a used copy online.
I LOVE The Sting.
Wearing Un Fleur de Cassie, which, to me, is not a good rendition of the flower, nor does it take my breath away as a perfume.
Somehow, I never saw any movie with Robert Redfort. The only association I have is his Sundance catalog, which would help you to channel your inner cow-girl.
LOL. The jewelry looks huge but teeny-tiny in RL.
Still haven’t accomplished anything on my almost over vacation. Making a last ditch effort to wear my summer scents. Sotd is MK Sexy Rio De Janeiro. I know it’s silly, but i feel I would reach for it more if I liked the name better.
That name thing makes perfect sense to me. I tend to turn off at anything Pretty! Sexy! Happy! In love! I think it is the flirty, light-weight ‘ emoji’ aspect of the title. The lack of class? Originality? I think I might be a snob!!!
I think a name like that might keep me from trying it in the first place. But, if I happened to smell it and loved it… Just call it “Rio”.
Ha ha, “accomplished” and “vacation” don’t belong in the same sentence!
SOTD is Penhaligon’s Ostera.
Ostara, the vanishing! You smell lovely.
I love Ostara. Fleeting but beautiful!
Gorgeous!
It’s defanitly an Amouage type of day. I am wearing Lyric today, I was going to wear Beloved but it just seemed to be too much today after taking my dog to the vet. I will probably end up wearing Beloved tomorrow though.
Beloved is perfect in my book.
Mine too! 🙂
And mine!
Lovely!
Still culling through neglected samples. SOTD is Majda Bekkali Tulaytula. Not sure why I never came back to this one. I really like it. Almond, cherry and something vaguely green which keeps it from being too sweet or gourmand. Really pretty! And the aqua colored juice is nice, too.
I hadn’t heard of this one (or ignored it because I couldn’t pronounce it), but it sounds beautiful.
It is really nice. It smells like an almond grove near a seaside. I get a hint of sunscreen-sans coconut, and the cypress gives it a little earthiness. Something very calming and nostalgic about it.
Wearing Boy today…
Wood, lavender and powder to my nose…nice but thankfully will not require a FB.
Wearing from Mandragore from the fridge. Will figure out what to wear next after my shower.
I wonder how Redford feels about the remake of “The Way We Were” with Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in Redford and Streisand’s original roles…
I’m wearing GIRL by Pharell/Comme Des Garcons. The beginning is a bit challenging but it becomes very pretty within an hour.
The Way We Were slays me. That scene in NYC…. Didn’t know about a remake. I see that BC and LG are also doing a remake of A Star is Born, which is not as sacred for me.
Oh sorry, I think I got the two confused.
My bad…Sorry
(Both before my time…ha)
Ha — that is indeed a big mistake for those of us of a certain age 😉
Dame Mimosa soliflore, basically because it was on the top of my vanity today and I didn’t feel like making decisions. I’ve got big plans for today, so naturally I’m avoiding them by tidying up and commenting here. Ah, well. Mimosa is good company.
that is a pretty one!
Trying out Monsillage Eau Fraiche this morning. A very nice little thing from which I’m mainly getting an orangey citrus which based on the description isn’t even there. Nice but no wow factor for me.
Love Robert Redford…
I am wearing Etro Palais Jamais, a deliciously smoky green scent. Perfect in the heat.
Palais Jamais is such a strange scent, and I love it! To me it’s what Un Jardin sur Nil should have smelled like.
SOTD is Cristalle. I must not have applied enough because it’s disappearing on me. Sigh.
You smell wonderful!
Love Cristalle. You smell great!
Robert Redford…such a good-looking man, and I’m not attracted to blond men. I’d make an exception for him, though. When I lived in NYC I saw him jogging with a bodyguard in Central Park. He has nice legs.
I’m wearing No. 5 edc today which is helping me cope a little. My mother, who is one week shy of her 92nd birthday, developed pneumonia and was moved to hospice last Thursday. Antibiotics did not work and she is too weak to last much longer. She has a DNR order so we are just waiting.
Even though she is nearly 92, this must be tough. I’m very sorry, and I hope it’ll be a peaceful process.
So sorry to hear about your mother! Hoping hospice is able to keep her comfortable and anxiety free.
So sorry Foxbins. Wishing you peace as you wait.
So sorry. Sending you warm and comforting thoughts.
Sending good wishes and thoughts your way.
So sorry to hear. Hugs to you.
Wishing you peace, foxbins. No 5 edc is a comforting choice.
Sending hugs to you.
I hope you will find peace and comfort, foxbins.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Sending prayers for a peaceful transition. No matter how long we have our parents, it’s hard to say goodbye. Big hugs to you.
Really sorry to hear this, Foxbins. Sending lots of love your way.
Sending my sympathy. May you, she, and your family have as easy and peaceful time as possible.
When I lived in NYC I saw him up close and personal….what astounded me was that the quality of his skin was not so good (as in he must have had lots of acne as a teenager)…that was about 30 some odd years ago…nonetheless, he was still a great looking man!
And also wanted to say before I accidentally posted hoping you find peace during this difficult time……
I am so sorry, and will be thinking of you in the days to come. My mom is 90, and I know this time won’t be far off for her either. There is never enough time to say everything you want to say to a loved one. Hugs.
Thinking of you x
Thinking of you Foxbins. My Mom passed away on the 3rd,it’s still so fresh.Stay strong.xx
Wishing you strength Foxbins!
Wishing you comfort and peace, foxbins.
Peace and comfort to you, foxbins.
So so sorry to hear this news. Keeping you and your family in thought and prayer.
So sorry! I’ve been through this and know how hard it is. Wishing you strength, peace, and comfort.
Oh dear, adding my good wishes for you both. We will be thinking of you.
Foxbins, so sorry to hear that you are going through this now. All positive thoughts are going your way.
You and your family are in my prayers.
Very hard… Sending you peace and strength.
Catching up with NST this morning, and reading about this difficult time for u, foxbins.. my thoughts and prayers are with u and you’re mum, hope she is as comfortable as possible.
Enjoying Past/Presence today. I encourage all tea lovers to give this a sniff. It’s longevity is good (on me!) and has a lovely powdery dry down.
SOTD is PdE Corsica Fusiosa. Because I’m in a great smelling rut ????
The best kind of rut!
According to Style Redux, Robert Redman wears Creed Irish Green Tweed cologne (along with Richard Gere and Cary Grant):

I was testing vintage Hermes Bel Ami yesterday (old enough to have real sandalwood). Now I see why that’s one of Kevin’s favorites.
Wearing Bel Ami (current) today, still need to try vintage. How many vintages should I be looking for?
Mine is a decant. What I looked for was one that came from the “cocktail shaker” bottle, which I finally found. I haven’t tried current, but plan to. I tried Bel Ami Vetiver once and sort of liked it, iirc.
Really, how could Robert Redford be 80! My favorite movie with Robert Redford and Oaul Newman is The Sting.
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
Verdict: It’s perfect
Good film choice. I think my fave RR movie might be Barefoot in the Park, a TCM perennial!
Oooh, I have to check this out!
I like Oaul Newman too 🙂
and you smell great…getting a lot of usage out of your no 19 lately, eh?
I need the spine strengthening aspects of it as work had been even crazier!
Paul Newman – what a classy guy. He / or a foundation he controlled founded the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Connecticut. Kids with life-threatening illnesses AND their siblings go to a week-long summer camp on full scholarship (separate camp for the siblings). One of my nieces was born with a rare genetic disorder that doctors deemed “incompatible with life” and had gone to the camp 3 or 4x as did my other niece as the well sibling. Anyway, my niece is now 23, living independently and works too hard in a professional services organization. There’s no cure for what she has but I think her time at the camp without her parents’ watchful eyes helped her gain confidence.
That is an amazing story! I am glad that your niece is thriving and yes, sometimes time away from parents watchful eyes does create strength and independence!
How fleeting is it on you? 8 sprays La Pausa just needs 3 sprays to stick around on my for a day, but the perfect no 19 EdP checks out a lot earlier!
6-7 sprays = 6 hours and then it plays peek-a-boo. I may up it to 8-9 sprays to see what happens.
Wonderful choice!
I really liked Redford in The Horse Whisperer. He’s a posterchild for aging gracefully. Can’t believe he’s 80.
I sprayed on a No. 5 EDT from a sample this morning but had to scrub. Sacrilege, I know. I guess I’ll have to keep trying or maybe another version? La Danza delle Libellule by Nobile 1942 is my SOTD. I haven’t worn it much lately and It smells a bit like Tihota in the drydown.
He was great in the Horse Whisperer, even though the film was not true to the book. La Danza delle Libellule is such a fun scent.
I never read the book so I wasn’t disappointed. I find that in most cases, the book is usually better than the movie.
It’s my birthday ( and Coco Chanel’s…the 19th here ) and my wedding anniversary. My husband has ducked off to Melbourne for a conference ….so I’m thinking I am going to have to make my own entertainment today ( but really, every day is a birthday …kind of). I never do this BUT I think i might buy some flowers. It’s almost spring here and last night the smell of grass hung over our garden and everything felt so alive under the full moon. So, I will buy a bunch of daffodils, a nice danish pastry and take the dogs for a picnic on the hill ( fill my thermos with coffee), then maybe buy a new book, or do some writing…and then celebrate not having to cook dinner by eating muesili and fresh fruit for tea. Sounds pretty perfect! Ostara or Cristalle or Monsieur Li…possibly all 3.
Happy birthday Kanuka! Sounds like a fantastic plan.
Happy birthday! Your plan sounds perfect.
Happy birthday and happy anniversary!
Happy multiple celebrations to you, Kanuka!
Contemplating your life without distraction, is sometimes the most worthwhile celebration.
😀
Also…All the President’s Men. And the one where he is in a sinking yacht. He’s been in our local paper a bit recently as he just made a film in a little farming town not far away in Southland (NZ) that reminded him of USA in the 1970s….but with better meat pies and scones down here, I imagine.
Oh, happiest of days, Kanuka! Your plan sounds perfect, except that you should get two Danish….it’s all about balance.
Spring is here now too, according to the tui in Albert Park. He was sitting in a magnolia warbling and chuckling away yesterday morning, looking very smart in his iridescent green, and clearly, he was inordinately proud of his neck wear. A flight of rosellas swooped in, too — I worry about them. What on earth could they find to eat in the inner city? Mad Aussies!
Project started. First meeting was hell, but I got some unexpected support in the very difficult conversation I had to have, and probably it will get easier as I go along.
Good luck with your day. And I hope you bought that lipstick – it was very cool.
Happy birthday and happy anniversary Kanuka! I hope you have dropped unsubtle hints about suitable spoils to be brought home from Melbourne. :^)
He’s ordered me a cell phone for my birthday. He once got me a little plastic scoop-shovel thing for cleaning out the gutters ( on the roof) for my birthday. We are pretty yin and yang …but we’re still laughing and having fun after 20 years.
Happy Birthday!Hope you have a wonderfully fragrant year!!x
Happy Annibirthday! Sounds perfect, for any day, really.
Your in good company! Happy birthday and your day by yourself sounds perfect, and you smell perfect too.
¡Feliz Cumpleaños, Kanuka! And Happy Anniversary! Your plan sounds great. Have yourself a lovely day. ????
That sounds like a wonderful day and a very good way to celebrate.
Happy Birthday, Kanuka. Enjoy!
Happy Birthday and Anniversary! And I’m jealous of your spring coming.
Hope it is a lovely day!
Happy birthday & anniversary, Kanuka!
Happy birthday and happy anniversary. Enjoy!!!
Happy birthday and happy anniversary!
SOTD is 31 Rue Cambon. It is, imho, about as perfect as a perfume can be. I decided to wear it as a bit of a public service for my fellow air travelers later today, as I will be escaping the desert for a quick family vacay in cooler climes.
Have a great Thursday, all.
The only thing I would change about 31RC is to increase its availability 😉 I hope I’m lucky enough to sit next to you the next time I have to travel.
Yes, increased availability…for the perfumista world, like a secret club. I know *I’m* never lucky enough to fly sitting next to anyone smelling this good! ???? OK, where are we traveling to?! I could just accompany you and be your personal air freshener when you have to travel.
I considered 31RC for today – in fact I had pulled it out getting ready to wear it when No.19 leaped into my hand. Lucky fellow travelers!
Well, either way, you would end up smelling fabulous with Chanel! …They *are* lucky people! ????
Smell Bent Tipsy Social Blah Blah, which smells like celery and lime, which I do not appreciate …. Robin, is there another swap coming up someday soon?
Yes — thank you for the nudge, I should have updated the sidebar by now. The next splitmeet is in September, and the swapmeet in October, freebiemeet in January.
Oh great! I didn’t even think to check the sidebar.
In the very nice Kenzo Amour. Decant from the freebiemeet (thank you Elisa P!). I had been curious about this one and like the milkyness… It’s got something that seems a bit medicinal to me, which is interesting. Really enjoying it.
My favorite Redford is Barefoot in the Park. Love that movie. No denying how gorgeous he was in The Way We Were. I do wish he’d let go of the hair thing, though. It’s time.
Arabie, my newest FB. It doesn’t go with the weather outside, but it works very well with the office air conditioning. Oddly enough, it has a celery-seed amber in common with Aimez-Moi. Amazing the difference putting cloves with one and violets with the other makes.
In Bel Ami today. I feel like my week is just getting rolling…
SOTD = Etro Shaal Nur.
