Happy Tuesday, and happy Ice Cream Sandwich Day! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing a dab of Jean Paul Gaultier Le Mâle, developed by perfumer Francis Kurkdjian.
Reminder: on 8/5, wear a fragrance by Francis Kurkdjian, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Rubj extrait de parfum. I enjoy it very much, but for some reason it doesn’t totally grab me. Tea is Earl Grey Goût Russe.
That tea sounds lovely.
It is!
SOTD- Assam of India (best lemon ever IMHO)
TORW- Hindu Honeysuckle
You smell great!!
thank you, Wendysue!
You smell great! My hand almost landed there but slightly to the right was SMN Tabacco Toscano.
My one tobacco light enough for summer
🙂
Aspara, did you insert the atomizer into the SMNbottle? How did you take out the stopper?
Hajusurri, I am pretty certain I bought it with the atomizer at SMN in Florence. Or, I have no memory of how I did it!
Hindu Honeysuckle got a compliment from my hubby, whom never says anything about the perfumes I wear. Enjoy
I remember when you wrote that in your comment the time you wore it…so I had very high expectations…unfortunately it is not one of my favorites from Providence Perfume Co……I would be curious as to the comments it would elicit from my nieces who are extremely opinionated about what I wear !
Wow, you’re really India’d out 🙂 As someone of Indian heritage, I always gravitate towards things with those kinds of names. I shall have to try both these scents someday.
As a person who practices yoga I bought the Assam of India bottle blind because of the elephants decorating the bottle and the list of notes (lemon, assam tea and MYSORE sandalwood)…lucky for me I was not disappointed by the fragrance!
All of their bottles are so wonderful!
I know….and I want them all 🙂 !!!
Me too!
Good morning Y’all!
Back in Escada’s Born in Paradise today…..hanging on to summer as long as I can! LOL
Here’s a pic of what’s happening this week….no other explanation needed! 🙂

Just keep spraying for strength. Love the photo.
I can’t even. I’ll have to soon, but putting it off as long as possible.
I should be disgusted with myself I guess, but my version of that image would be a big pile of boxes from Amazon.
Ooh, I may steal this idea! How did I not think of that??
I ordered everything from Target! But they did things like send ONE spiral notebook in a box…!
No disgust here, just 100 % agreement. I greatly prefer online shopping.
Trust me….I’m a proud Amazon Prime member who’s not afraid to ship anything and everything! LOL! Have oboe reeds coming for middle kid right now! 🙂
I still buy my daughter’s alto sax reeds from Amazon, and have ’em sent straight to her college address. 🙂
Schooool! This time of year I have to resist buying notebooks and pens. For myself. I’m long past it now, but I always enjoyed the start of the year at the university level, and it still excites me every time it rolls around. And I have a fondness for school supplies, which, I admit, is kinda weird.
Hang in there. And best wishes for a great year for your kids!
I LOVE school supplies too! A new pack of pens for ME will always make it into the buggy!
I am sitting at my desk now working on class schedules. Ugh! I literally start crying when I see the advertisements on television and in the newspaper for back-to-school stuff.
#summergetsshortereveryyear
So sorry!
Vanille d’iris by OJ today.
I’ve given myself a project concerning my perfume. My collection is at odds with my more minimalist lifestyle (and my budget – let’s face it, that’s a HUGE factor) and I’m now in that “do I really like that?” phase. So I’m keeping the majority of my collection in the basement (it’s safer there due to the heat) and only keep samples I want to use up in my drawer. When I’m done with those, I’ll go through another set of samples until I’m done. Then I will have no choice but to use my bottles and I’m not allowed to buy/receive anymore samples. I’ve been sort of doing this since I got back from the honeymoon and am amazed at how many samples of scents I forgot about, but want to use up. If something strikes me in that MUST BUY NOW sort of way, I’ll take note of it. So far, Ormonde Woman and Iris Nazarene are the only ones on the list.
This sounds like a really good idea, whatever the reason. It’s always good to ‘shop’ your own stuff too.
I’d put away several samples a while back and when I was going through them the other day I was amazed at how many I forgot I had. Totally that “out of sight, out of mind” problem. Granted, my collection is small, but still – I feel like it’s a little out of control even for me. I’ve always been better off with having fewer choices to deal with and sometimes, finding the right scent from too many was stressing me out in a ridiculous way that I didn’t realize until recently. I am glad to be shopping my own stuff now and have gone through 5 samples in the past week.
I like that plan. I may try that, too. I used to be able to remember exactly which samples I had, but not anymore.
I had that problem too. Also, I have a lot of samples that have just that tiny “half-dose” left in them so I figured I should just use them up.
Both of your “must haves” are available in travel sizes, so that’s a lucky break.
Yes, I was thinking it would be better to get the travel size options. Granted, the “must haves” are far away from being anywhere in the budget, regardless of how economical the travel sizes are.
Sounds like a good strategy, and I admire your self-control. I did the typical overspending and overindulgence when I finally let myself go fully down the rabbit hole a couple years ago and got it together again later, but there still is that impulse to buy when something seems like a good deal. I’ve kept it to decants lately, thankfully, but it can still be hard to reel in that gleeful “Oooh, it’s on sale and pretty – I’m going to get it!” instinct. I’ve started to ask myself if I really love or need any kind of item (clothing, etc.) when I’m about to buy it lately, and I’m trying to make this apply to perfume as well.
So fun to be impulsive sometimes though…
The husband and I want to do a lot of things to our house and we realized that it would take us until retirement to actually get any of them done if we don’t focus on how to save for them now. It’s easy to just spend a little here and there and perfume is definitely a luxury that I don’t have to have. But all those little “here and there” things add up quickly, which could’ve been better spent on fixing/ improving things we know will benefit us in the long run for the house. I’m not saying I’m giving up perfume for the sake of affording the front door of my dreams (several Roja Dove’s should cover it – let alone what that equates to in scents I’d actually like to afford), but I’ve come around to just appreciating what I have right now and when I’m down to the last dregs – then – I can look into that kind of frivolous luxury again. And as I mentioned earlier – having so many choices can be a bit daunting and stressful. I know I’ll never curate my collection to the Perfect Green Scent or Perfect Rose Scent, etc…. but I think I’d be ok with a handful that really say ME.
Considering how easy it was for me to get rid of a large part of my wardrobe, books, mementos of things/events I don’t even remember, cosmetics, and skincare products that really didn’t work for me I figured it was about time I address the elephant in the house – aka my perfume collection.
An excellent idea! Not only will you get to enjoy samples you might have forgotten about, but it also makes good financial sense in that by using up samples, the money you spent on them won’t be ‘wasted’ (as it would if, say, they totally evaporated before you could try them). I get what you mean about the stress: choice-induced paralysis! Reducing ‘clutter’ a bit is never a bad thing. Good luck and enjoy shopping your collection!
SOTD: Lumière Noire pour Homme (Maison Francis Kirkdjian).
VC&A feerie -probably spelling that wrong
Beautiful day today- getting coffee at Oslo and off to the park
Feerie is my daughter’s “signature” scent. I bought it for her because the bottle has the fairy on it and she likes bottles, fantasy, sci-fi, etc. It was in my pre perfumista days. It’s lovely on her.
You smell great. Have a good outing.
It has a note in it that goes off on me- like a musky smell
I bought it for next to nothing because of the funny/kitchy bottle, but my toddler made a quick work of disassembling the fairy to bits and pieces…who would have thought it could be dissassembled!
I just have a sample..but thanks for the warning if I ever get a bottle..
It’s rainy and grey in Brussels (not surprising, of course), so I’m wearing Olfactive Studio Lumiere Blanche – one of my absolute favourite perfumes for this weather. Or any weather, really.
That is a great scent for any weather. There’s just something about it that is soothing no matter the occasion.
I absolutely agree. And it’s truly versatile.
Must try this as London has just a few grey and rainy days.
Us too, in Vancouver.
It is a great scent by any measure, but I think it somehow works perfectly in unseasonal weather – also during warm days in winter.
That is a good one
Yes!
Love love love. You have excellent perfume taste. You smell amazing!
Thank you! I’m definitely not alone in liking this, so not the only person with good taste in perfume 🙂
Fleur du Male.
Your orange blossom cousin, Robin.
😉
Twins! I bought this for my husband and sons to wear but I’m enjoying it myself today.
Excellent, bastet !
It smells great all day long (I wore it yesterday also) .
Do your husband and sons wear it?
My 16 yr old wears it the most, although he’s a bit embarrassed by the bottle (its always pushed to the very back of the cabinet, hiding behind everything else).
Thanks for the reply.
The bottle thing apparently bothers a lot of males.
As an out gay male, I love it.
Not to be too stereotypical. LOL
😀
Well, he’s only 16, so it could just be that.
Hey cousin! You smell better than I do.
Sorry to agree, but yes I do !
LOL
The lavender and spearmint in Le Male don’t work for me.
😉
I have just received my blind buy bottle of Eau de Gaga. Found it for 10 euros. Sprayed it and really liked it plus its unisex.
So glad you like your unsniffed buy!
The guy in that pic really is Male, isn’t he. 🙂 SOTD is Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur, so great for the slightly misty, pre-sunny-day morning we’re having here.
You smell wonderful! I’ve been wanting a FB of Cuir Pleine Fleur forever.
Me, too! I got a sample years ago, after Nozknoz said she liked it, and I must say — Noz has never steered me wrong!
Trying out Hiram Green’s Shangri-la today. It’s really, really pretty and good company on this cool rainy summer day.
You smell wonderful!
You do smell beautiful! Such a nice one.
Love it!
i drained my 5ml sample already..
I’m back! After a vacation from work, the interwebs, and perfume I am feeling recharged and ready to dig in.
SOTD is Kerbside Violet
And you smell great, too.
Lovely.
Welcome back!
Carven Le Parfum. I hadn’t realized it was a Francis Kurkdjian creation. It’s pretty, but doesn’t work well on me compared to many of his other fragrances.
I will probably wear that one tomorrow.
I like that one.
Sampling Roses de Chloe today. It’s quite a pretty rose, but nothing exciting.
Agreed, it is a pretty tea rose, but there are better rose scents.
Bel Ami Vetiver by Hermes; vetiver wrapped in leather…what more can one ask? :))
Started in Aerin Rose de Grasse but then (excited) my two Le Labo exclusive samples I ordered yesterday arrived. So have tried Gaiac 20 on my left wrist and Vanille 44 on my right. Very tempted by both but will have to get to know them better.
I am itching to sample the exclusives..tell me what you really think? Which did you order?
I ordered the Tokyo Guaiac 20 and the Vanille 44. The Tokyo initially didn’t appeal when I sprayed it but I keep wanting to try it again- there is something compelling about the soft woodiness and I think it could be lovely in mid season weather. Maybe a somewhat thoughtful and meditative scent. The Vanille 44 is very lasting and even 8 or so hours later I keep on catching whiffs of it. I would classify it as a grown up boozy vanilla which is both very modern and also very in the lineage of the older orientals. Would be stunning in cold weather and probably great on a scarf. I even eant to spray more on a very humid grey day! Definitely recommend trying them.
Yes, keep us posted!
I suspect you would find both very worth trying – they are definitely slightly unusual based on initial impressions.
In the tiniest spritz of Narciso’s Musk For Him (edp, limited edition), signed by Kurkdjian. Iris, red berries and musk. Very smooth but can be heavy if not careful with the spritzing!
Trying desperately to finish a 30 ml bottle of Dior J’adore that was gifted to me last year. I don’t like it or dislike it. It is okay, kind of boring and bland compared to the vintage one. I feel it is just occupying an unnecessary space in my cabinet. Less than half is left, so I hope to finish it before summer is over. Therefore that is the SOTD.
Good luck! I have similar problems with some scents and can’t even claim that they were given to me.
I have so many scents that I feel I don’t need, either because they don’t suit me anymore or I was given as presents. I definitely finish them in a reasonable amount of time or they will need to find another home.
I’ve got some samples and minis to use up I feel the same way about. I usually end up throwing on those less-liked scents when I know I won’t be overly conscious of them – like being outside sweating while weeding the yard or running mundane errands, etc…
I use them also in my laundry, pour them in my oil burner, spray them in dry potpourris, wear them to bed, when I am cooking, etc. I have those moments when I really get annoyed and would like to get rid of everything I don’t want anymore.
Unless they were gifted to me, I don’t even try to use them up. I just put them aside for swapping, selling or giving away. Life is short! 🙂
I tend to open and try almost everything that gets on my hands. I have some full bottles that I have used only 10%, 20% just to find out later on that they don’t fit my taste.
That’s pretty much what I do these days. I can’t bring myself to wear things I don’t enjoy just to get rid of them.
Exactly!
From the ones that are in my “unwanted list” I wear those that I know I can enjoy at least in some degree, like J’adore. The others go for a “better use” 🙂
Even if they are gifts, and they don’t delight me, out they go. And that goes for clothing, perfume, anything. When I give someone something, I don’t want it to give them an experience that isn’t optimal, and I don’t think anyone wants it for me either, so I keep the love and good wishes and pass the thing on to bless someone else.
Turn samples/small decants into lampe berger fuel!
1 sample to about 75 mls of 99% isopropyl, and let it steep a couple of days before burning it.
I have many samples that are pretty, but not suited to me/my skin, but are great for lampe berger…
Nice idea. I’ll have to check that out. I did dump a few samples into an oil diffuser that was no longer diffusing.
Going to try this one too!
What an excellent idea!
I am, apparently, on a chocolate kick this week. After Frapin 1270 yesterday, Arquiste’s Anima Dulcis today.
Oh I have to try Frapin – you have been raving about it.
You smell wonderful!
Love 1270 and Speakeasy.
It’s cool enough that I can enjoy my decant of LM Parfums Hard Leather, so I’m about to huff my wrists throughout the course of my next conference call. She’s a dirty girl, this one. I like her quite a bit.
Hope everyone is well!
By the way, Lovestosmellgood, I finally picked up some of MF’s French Breakfast tea at Dean and Deluca. I’m realizing it’s not intense enough to get me really going in the morning (I end up having several cups of Tetley’s British Blend every weekday morning), so it’s turned into more of a French Afternoon/Weekend tea, but it’s still lovely.
Glad you like HL. I’ve not tried it, but it always seemed to be a much stronger leather than any of others I’ve tried.
On me, it’s actually less of a “hard leather” and more of a sweet & dirty leather oud, which I quite like. The word hard doesn’t suit it, to my mind, so I wouldn’t let that put you off. Though with my bizarro skin, who knows if you would have the same experience…
Actually I remember reading that it was a bit more on the skanky side than leather.
Yup – the oud gives it a skank that I like, though I know that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. And I’m realizing that sweet isn’t the right word – I meant warm. Warm and dirty leather oud. Yum yum.
This is a beautiful leather. I appreciate the longevity – sprayed some on a scarf a couple of weeks ago and it is still around
I had a cup this morning and followed with a decaf latte before going to the park.
I hope your not disappointed with the tea overall! I have tried some other black teas from MF and keep going back to this one or Paris Breakfast.
No no – not disappointed!! It’s a lovely one for when I don’t need a huge dose of caffeine to wake me up – like I said, afternoons and weekends and such.
SOTD is MK’s a la Rose. Pretty enough, a light weight airy rose, in the same vein as Diptyque’s Eau Rose, but almost double the price.
I do love A La Rose, though! I managed to get a couple of samples from Neiman’s and they will have to tide me over! SOTD is Robert Piguet Rose Perfection, which is much bigger and perfume-ier to make up a word. A La Rose wants to smell like a gorgeous rose but Rose Perfection wants to be a perfume.
Great description! Both fill a need don’t they, would be gorgeous rose and would be perfume…have you smelled Eau Rose?
A la Rose is huge on me…think I’d best stay clear of the Piguet!
I have a sample of it and like it but it doesn’t last on me at all!
Good morning, all! I couldn’t decide what to wear today, either clothing-wise or perfume-wise. Thus: jeans, T-shirt, Shalimar.
That’s a perfect uniform for a Tuesday. You and Shalimar smell great.
Agreed!
Excellent choices all around! I’m in Shalimar’s brother, Habit Rouge today.
I love Shalimar..
Scent of the morning is Eau de Guerlain. Mmm-mmm-mmmmm.
Hope everyone has a fabulously fragranced day.
I’m going to have to try that sometime, as I’m afraid I have a Guerlain addiction!
Lol, don’t do it. It’s divine! ????
I must admit I am a Guerlain fan, and Eau de Guerlain is among my most favorite of their fragrances. It’s worth a try (wink-wink).
Hoping to make it through the the summer without buying it. I feel that my desire will wane after summer. Fingers crossed! ????
Warm weather is the reason I fell for a bottle of Eau de Guerlain after waiting several years to make up my mind.
And I have a small decant of Chanel Eau de Cologne, so I wanted to compare the two scents. I blame science and summer. 😀
I bought a bottle of the original formulation of Chanel Eau Premiere off evilBay and am wearing it today…
Quite lovely. I had smelled it when it first came out and never got around to purchasing it. It is fairly light/effervescent…not sure how much longevity I will get w/ it.
I smelled the current formulation a couple weeks back and was surprised but how much I liked that one too. The current Eau Premiere smells like No. 5 EDT to my nose…and it lasted a long while on my forearm. The original formulation of Eau Premiere diverges more from No. 5.
Man…I may have to shell out for the current version too now…so little time, so much perfume!
I feel you. For the life of me, I can’t decide whether or not to buy Coromandel. Sometimes I love it and other days not so much. I have found that I actually prefer to wear it when the weather is hot but that is a short season where I live. I should probably purchase a large decant instead but Chanel decants are hard to find unless I turn to evil bay.
We are living parallel lives! I debated on Coromandel and just sprang for a bottle on eBay myself.
This is like Year of Chanel for me it seems…partly b/c I was exceedingly late to the Exclusifs party and partly b/c they are supposedly going up in price and/or will be reformulated next month. I had No. 19 Poudre and some vintage Coco going into this year and now I have 31 RC, Coromandel, Box of Eels, 1932 and Eau Premiere. 😯
If you are in the U.S. I would be happy to send you some Coromandel.
Thank you for your generous offer She-ra! I do have a decant of Coromandel. I just need to make a decision before the price hikes up. Ugh…
You have a nice Chanel collection and own many of my favorites, although I haven’t yet tried 1932 or Eau Premiere. I’m also tempted by No. 22…..
Tempted by no 22 as well. Might be bringing it to a splitmeet.
Hmmmm.. I’ll be looking for that then!
I will join in on any no 22 splitmeet!!!!
SOTD Auphorie Eternal Voyage. Of the 3 samples I ordered, this is the one I’ve been wearing. Miyako has grown on me and I like smelling it, but not sure I’d wear it out. It has a very pungent sandalwood that smells almost cheesy. It’s quite rich and complex and beautiful in a unconventional way. Regal Secret was meh for me and I could hardly smell it (musk?), and I actually gave it to a random server in a restaurant who commented on my perfume (a different one). I let her smell RS which was in my bag and she loved it so…
Off to Fire Island now for a few days, and am looking forward to beaching, eating, reading, and just relaxing.
Giving away your decant was such a sweet gesture. Enjoy your vacation!
Thanks! She seemed to really like it, which was nice. She couldn’t quite wrap her head around the fact that I ordered the samples from Malaysia. It was cute.
ha, ha, ha…. I’m so used to it by now that it almost surprises me when people think I’m nuts!
Enjoy and relax!
Thank you! Will do ????
I totally agree. Eternal Voyage is the only one I have worn twice!
I’ve already used almost the entire sample. Can’t really put my finger on what I love about it, but it feels exotic and familiar at the same time.
Hmmm, wish I’d tried Eternal Voyage when in SF. I did try Miyako and liked it. It did have a string blue cheese thing at the beginning…
Enjoy your trip and hope kitty is better.
Have a safe trip! Love Fire Island..haven’t been in years
I wore Iris Musque from Atelier des Ors today
Oh how is it?
I love it. A powdery, musky iris. Very much up my style
Thank you! I must try this out.
I’m wearing Hiris today and it’s not sitting well. I am feeling kind of queasy and hope I’m not coming down with anything.
Oh sometimes Hiris does that to me too! I hope it is just her having an off day, and not you coming down with anything.
A lot of Hermes does this to me. Sad.
I hope it’s just the perfume! Feel better soon.
I get that from Byredo
I get it from some byredo’s too.
I did wear no 19 in EDT form yesterday. I really did need that one to get me through a tough shift at work. Today, I am bathed in Theorema.
To be able to bathe in Theorema is a wonderful thing! Hope today has been easier…
Thanks, everyone, for your birthday wishes yesterday 🙂 They made me feel like a princess!
No need for a perfume today. My mother’s jasmine sambac bushes are perfuming one end of the patio, while the other is dominated by the tuberose plants (called “night scent” in Bengali, which I find to be the loveliest name). I’ve been collecting the fallen blossoms of both plants and putting them in a little crystal bowl of water on the breakfast table, so my days are gently and beautifully perfumed both indoor and out.
I don’t think I’d want a creepy-looking man, however well-muscled, leaping out of my perfume bottle. I would, however, like an ice cream sandwich.
Belated happy birthday to you Koyel!
Koyel, I hope you had a wonderful birthday and you should celebrate all week!
Happy belated Birthday!
Happy Belated Birthday.
Wow, it sounds like you’ve got your scent covered for the day. That sounds like a wonderful combination to be surrounded with.
The photo is a little creepy and I totally agree that an ice cream sandwich would be better.
Happy belated birthday! The jasmine/ tuberose flowers you are smelling sound so beautiful. I wish you a year full of delicious smells and as many ice cream sandwiches as you want.
Many happy returns! :^)
SOTD is Neela Vermiere’s Bombay Bling, for no particular reason but it is a sparkling and happy fragrance!
So so happy.
That really is a happy fragrance.
It’s very boisterous and it made me feel like I should be wearing a brightly colored sari with flowers in my hair attending some big, loud festival.
Happy Tuesday All!
Today I am sampling Baccarat Rouge 540 by MFK.
I can definitely smell the jasmine when I first spray it on, but then the dry down is more of a “woodsy” scent. Very nice fragrance, but I’m sure its way out of my price range!
I really like that one; lasts forever on me!
Just had 2 slices of pizza for lunch and now I need a nap…zzzzzzz.
That’s what I get for skipping breakfast.
SOTD for me is 31 Rue Cambon. Lightly dabbed, not sprayed.
You smell fabulous! I think 31RC works really well dabbed. Pizza sounds good…
You do smell great! I dabbed the last of my 31RC sample last week. I miss it already…
I put on This is not a blue bottle from Histories des Parfum this morning, but it has pretty much disappeared. It was pleasant but not memorable. Inspired by She-ra, I’m going to try Coromandel for the afternoon.
Glad to hear it is pleasant but not memorable since I guess I’m skipping it altogether!
I couldn’t decide what to wear today, and started thinking about some bottles I could give away. I started with Jimmy Choose Exotic, but then i sprayed it, and remembered how much I liked it. Which, of course is why I even have it. sotd, Jimmy Choose Exotic.
Don’t you hate when that happens ????
Any particular suggestions for perfume shopping in Portland OR?
I haven’t seen MarjorieRose around for awhile (expect she’s busy with wedding plans or on honeymoon)
So I’ll pass on her recommendation: The Perfume House which she calls Our Lady of Perfume.
Thank you!
There’s the new(ish?) Fumerie Parfumerie, stocking Slumberhouse and other stuff – haven’t been there yet. I think it’s supposed to be more indie stuff and PH is more classic lines…
I was eyeballing this one!
Hey, I’m going to Portland on Thursday. Fumies meetup on Friday at Fumerie@ 4! I’m in Portland for a wedding reception. Wouldn’t it be beyond coincidence if you’re there for the same event!
Oh if only! I went there today and had a great time, although I was a little rushed because of my MIL, who think she doesn’t like perfume. Splurged on Profumum Arso. I love it and just wish they had a smaller on this one as they do for some of the others. Have fun hajusuuri! I go back to WA tomorrow.
Wearing Eau d’orange verte to face this sauna of a day. I only wish it weren’t so fleeting.
Excellent choice. The lotion lasts pretty well.
Thanks for the suggestion. Will try the lotion!
I’m wearing TDC Osmanthus on this cloudy and chilly August day. I really love this one and plan to purchase more when my decant runs out soon. I also need to try Osmanthe Yunnan, as many people seem to list that as their favorite osmanthus.
OY is lovely, but it absolutely disappears on me. I’m lucky if it lasts half an hour, even with about 10 sprays 🙁
I don’t think I have any FK, and it’s an unsummery day, so I sprayed myself with petite rien for some incense-y cleansing etc.
Carpathian Oud from Soivohle since I can only wear it on my days off
Good stuff!
Xerjoff “1861 – Zefiro” – a blast of cinnamon spice for a rainy day in London. Spent my day in one tense ugly meeting after another, so I wasn’t willing to re-apply. I’ll respray for the evening once back in the hotel.
I hope you have a relaxing evening to make up for your day.
Thank you. Actually, I just fell asleep and later watched a programme about New Zealand wildlife. Days like today make me question what I’m doing with my life.
Do you head back to Malaga soon? Hope so, and that things improve. You might need a Xer off arso combination for work meeting.
I’ve only just seen this… oh my! :^)
SOTD = Ex Nihilo Sweet Morphine
A perfume fairy sent me a travel size of this for “almost half-Valentine” – how cool is that?!? She also sincluded a decant of Myths woman and a large sample of Vanille Hinoki (which I will oay forward since I have a bottle). Sweet Morphine is lilac, yellow flowers, iris, heliotrope and vanilla heaven, as long as it lasted — 3 sprays = 3 hours. I will experiment with a higher dosage to see how long it lasts!
Speaking of Sweet Morphine, I know I am really deep into the rabbit hole when I was shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale online (on Sunday, before I got the perfume fairy’s package) and saw a blouse in a shade of pink and the first thing I thought was not if I liked the style but rather how closely it matched Sweet Morphine juice 😉
This morning, I read Clayton’s post on Myths Man and Myths Woman. If you haven’t done so, do hop on over to What Men Should Smell Like!
Now *that* is accessorizing: dressing to complement your juice. I can dig it!
Thanks to Angela’s recent review, I just tried Myths Woman last evening. Gorgeous.
Bummer about Sweet Morphine, I was looking forward to trying this one but if it’s that short-lived, that is a lot less appealing.
Morning, good morning, NST. I’ve slept the migraine away, good job, and now I face a busy day, with a couple of hours of teaching to roundcitboff this afternoon and the lecture still not quite exactly, you know, finished, and how can I be this calm and sanguine about that? Anyway, look at me, not giving a toss. I’m wearing 31 Rue Cambon to assist this spirit of insouciance, and my Holly-Hobby-Turned-Goth dress, with boots of the sort that should make Trouble think twice about coming anywhere near me today. There’s something of a disjoin between my perfume (so elegant) and my outfit (stompers of the world unite), but who cares? Oh, there I go again, not giving a decent-sized damn about STUFF….be happy and safe, everyone!
Glad the migraine is gone. Trouble, you’d better watch out ’cause waterdragon’s rocking boots and 31RC and won’t be takin’ crap from no one!!
Good riddance to the migraine.
Congratulations!!!
Sorry, wrong post. That was for sweetgrass.
Rain! Clouds! 73 degrees F! If not for all the cacti, you wouldn’t know it’s the desert, let alone summer. So I’m taking advantage of the lovely weather and wearing Habit Rouge.
The rain is a welcome relief after the last heat wave in my area. Enjoy the rain!
It’s definitely a relief–for people, animals, and plants–and it does wonders for air quality. It was very enjoyable today because it was a light rain, as opposed to the typical monsoon downpours we’ve had the last several days.
Bet your outdoors smells great right now.
It still smells ‘just washed’ now, hours later.
That’s practically freezing for you!
You wouldn’t believe how true that is!
SOTD – Aftelier Palimpsest. Surprised at it’s longevity – I thought it would be gone by now, but it is going strong after 5 hours. Really like the honey note in it.
A lovely day for Cuir d’Ange since it is cool and gray.
Missed the doorbell this morning so will have to wait another day for my package of (I think) Rose Delight.
Scent twins, although it is warm here. But not hideous. Carried me through the dreaded trip to Trader Joe’s, which requires a certain patience. Although they were rocking some old funk music that I was enjoying.
After signing my name roughly eleventy million times and a lot of sitting and waiting, I have officially closed on my house! Woo! I wore Bottega Veneta for the occasion.
I wasn’t sure I had anything for Friday, but I realized I do have 1 FK, and that is a mini of Elie Saab.
Congrats! I was shocked at how long it took to sign everything when we closed on our house. I hope you have a wonderful first night in your new home, and years and years of happiness to follow.
Thanks! I won’t be moving in until later in the month because my lease on my current place isn’t up until the end of the month, but I look forward to getting that part over with. 🙂 New homes are exciting; the actual moving part, not so much.
It is exciting! I hope you have fun decorating and luxuriating in your new space.
Congratulations. BV was a great choice.
Congrats!!!
Congratulations!!!
Congrats!
Congratulations!!
Congratulations!
Congrats and great scent choice!
Sweeeeet!
Congratulations, Sweetgrass, on making it all official!! (And, if you sit bolt upright in bed at 3 am tomorrow thinking “What have I done?!?!” – remember that everyone else who has ever signed a mortgage for the first time has awakened in the same cold sweat… :D)
I have been on an amazing adventure. So, i am still kicking around with trying to find the plant specimens/ingredients for the Grand Maori Perfume and had a helping hand these past two weeks from an incredibly knowledgable botantist. I had assumed that pirpiri was bidibidi…a little round ball of hooked grass that sticks to your socks, from the rosacea family. But he thinks the piripiri is actually a filmy fern – which makes so much sense as the perfume is described by North Island explorers/ missionaries . But the cool thing is that the filmy fern ( bugger, haven’t got the botanical name to hand) has ‘sang’ in its title…and, as you might expect , smells strongly of blood when dried…so I’m guessing quite metallic. So…to sum up so far we have a resin/ gum that is quite sweet, a grass that is very pungent ( also known as holy grass ) and now a blood scented fern, plus a lemon scented native…so 4 notes have been identified! This guy is so amazing…as soon as he recovers from double knee surgery we are off on an expedition!
No FK in my collection but will mix up a heady rose with an overpowering orange musk ( Narciso plus In love again) and see how that goes.
Hymenophyllum sanguinolentum is the blood fern…couldn’t remember it off the top of my head.
That’s fascinating! I hope your botanist recovers soon and you find everything you need. Thanks for the botany lesson. I really would love to smell the blood fern.
Cool!
What an interesting adventure! I must’ve missed the previous chapters of this story; would you mind terribly giving a recap of how this started and why you’re reproducing this scent?
Sure…
I started doing a scent map of my neighbourhood
Started researching the native trees/ bushes
Saw a reference from the 1880s ( by a missionary in NOrth Isalnd of NZ) to the Grand Maori perfume…a list of ingredients ( grasses, mosses, ferns, leaves, resins) but problem with identifying the plants as only Maori names or numerous possibilities from botanical names being too general…so could be several, plants. Also rarity of plants due to deforestation.
Tracking down plants ….seeking advice….research…going nowhere fast
Solved one problem.
This is my email: zimmereleven at gmail dot com…I have written an essay about it for an anthology on HOME ( sniffing around the neighbourhood is my essay)…but it now needs revising .
Only about 1/10th way through the project…need to travel for some plants
Discovery of expert botantist!
Things looking up.
Apologies for butting into your convo with Koyel — just wanted to say that you were absolutely correct in identifying my dad’s mystery cologne bottle! I’ll send you a note at the email address listed above to say thank you!
I am visiting my family in Canadq and loving the cooler temperatures. Jeans and a sweater? Yes please! I am wearing Like This, and I may be falling in love.
D’oh! Canada does not have a q at the end!
No, just an “eh?” 🙂
You are obviously not in Montreal, it is 30C. 🙂
Celebrating the midde of the week by wearing my totally frivolous pink boots. When I bought them about 15 years ago, I wondered if they looked too ridiculous at my then comparatively youthful age – 15 years on, I really don’t care 🙂 Wearing Plum today, as that is also frivolous to my nose.
Pink boots! Oh my, pink boots….PINK boots? No, pink BOOTS! I might just have to be a copy cat and think about getting some PINK BOOTS! how cool!
I worked for a short time at Doc Martens – they have some fabulous picture boots and shoes. I was very tempted by a pair with a Japanese tatoo design!
Your pink boots sound awesome!
Ooooh, Ice Cream Sandwich Day??? That sounds like a fabulous idea. Might have to do something about that.
SOTD = sampling Alaia Paris EdP.
Hope you found that ice cream sandwich!
Day started chilly and overcast. Rain was added. Uncommunicative colleagues added frustration. I chose Shalimar for comfort and warmth.
Decided I needed to make a dent in my Kilian bottles, so I drenched myself in Rose Oud.
Today couldn’t have flown faster if it had wings, but the SOTD was Katy Perrys Killer Queen. I reached for it as I was in a hurry and kinda liked revisiting it. Happy Tuesday people.
