Happy Hump Day, and Eid Mubarak! It's also National Fried Chicken Day and Frida Kahlo's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré over Tauer Perfumes Rose Delight Body Oil.
Reminder: on 7/8, wear a citrus cologne, classic or modern.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: you can find Pantone iPhone cases at Pantone Universe, about $25 each.
I love Eau de Neroli Dore! Off to find my sample to wear today. And perhaps soon I’ll treat myself to one of the travel bottles…
It smells lovely over the rose oil 🙂
it sounds nice.
Ditto!
LOVE that Rose Oil. Bought and received it so fast. Lucky since I didn’t win the giveaway : ( !
I love it too — enjoy your bottle!
Wearing the all-occasion heat cutter known as Sous Le Toit de Paris since it’s expected to be in the 90s here in Boston
You smell lovely! We’re expecting the same weather.
I love that one. It’s great for the summer heat.
Wonderful!
I am in a perfume oil today called Moon Snail, its beautiful but lasts all of a new york minute. Its from a local shop in NYC.
The notes are mimosa, hinoki, galbanum, egyptian jasmine, ylang ylang, ginger lily, seaweed, roasted seashells, tonka bean, mitti attar, ambrette seed
Perfect for summer.
Tea is MF French Breakfast
In my neck of the woods are having a heat wave! Good Grief
I was sweating on the outdoor platform at 7:50 – never a good sign.
How are you liking your new lifestyle??
Its hard but wonderful at the same time!
Its also nice to have the freedom of having my weekends back and being able to do normal social events with my husband and friends.
How are you?
Feeling California refreshed?
I am – just tired because I’m still so jetlagged.
Yay for weekends! And meatballs. 🙂
SL Santal Blanc. It works all year round. It might be in my top ten scents of all time: it’s certainly in my top ten Lutens scents.
I recently got a decant of this, never having tried it before. It’s maple syrup to my nose first thing out of the gate, but then gets more woody.
I think I’ll appreciate it more come fall.
Definitely prefer it to Santal Majuscule.
I have to give this one another sniff myself – I love sandalwood and old school Serge scents, but I’ve neglected this one. I personally love Santal Majuscule, but we all know I love rose, and I know it’s not for everyone.
Santal Majuscule is lovely, but if you own either Santal Blanc or Jeux de Peau, it seems superfluous.
Interesting! I experience Jeux de Peau as much too sweet for me, and yet I love Santal Majuscule…wonder what it is exactly that I’m turned off by in that one.
I actually smell a lot of overlap between SM and Vetiver Oriental, too.
Ooh I love Santal majascule too, I will be very tempted to buy a bottle come Autumn. Curious to try Santal Blanc, but it’s a Paris one, so will probably have to wait a couple years or so.
We are heading home from Mom’s this morning so I don’t have to sweat it up outside for once. My husband managed to find a can of paint at the general store yesterday, much to my chagrin, and I did a bit of trailer painting after all. Luckily, I only worked for about half the day because I was on my last disposable paint brush. I’ll have to finish when we come back next week.
Today I’m going for cool and elegant in a generous amount of Heure Fougueuse. I sometimes forget how much I love this stuff!
Trailer painting and Heure Fougueuse sound delightful together. I love it and it makes me feel that I am surrounded by beautiful wild horses and hay.
I don’t get anything wild from it, but it does remind me of being crisply suited up and tucked-in for short stirrup riding as a kid. I guess that’s why it feels “elegant” but comfortable to me.
Hey – I’m from New York/Brooklyn. How close to wild horses did I get? I guess I used “wild” as in beautiful and free, not stalled and stinky?? Lol.
Le dreaded canicule has come to France, but luckily, it’s much later than last year, and I pray it will be much shorter and less extreme than it was last year. A friend from Sweden is coming to visit this weekend, and I don’t know how she’s going to handle highs of 97 °F.
Accordingly, I’m in a Dame scent. I don’t seem to have much in the way of citrus, or if I do, I’ve forgotten about them, so I’m in Dame Passion Fruit, Orange Blossom, and Vetiver, on the grounds that passion fruit contains a fair bit of citric acid and that orange blossoms are the precursors to citrus fruit. (On another note, is there a difference between orange blossom and neroli? Dame lists the two distinctly, but I thought they were the same thing.)
I know I’m totally alone in this, but I don’t like this Pantone streak at all. I’m no fan of their swatches or their phone covers or their coffee makers. I long for the lovely, emo images that once headed these SOTD posts. You’ve got to run out of Pantone images someday, right, Robin? (I’m recalling with some dismay that you once said there were roughly an infinite number of Pantone images.)
i don’t like Pantone either-so you are not alone!
The difference between neroli and orange blossom lies in the method of extraction, neroli being steam-distilled and OB extracted by solvents. (They do smell different to me.) See here: https://nstperfume.com/perfume-glossary/
That is so interesting! And thanks for the link!
So interesting. I love the daily Pantone images! So many great colors and truly inspiring for one who’s wardrobe is roughly 50% or more black, if not gray, white or beige.
Just goes to show how uniquely different we all are.
I love them too!
Me too!
Ack, I’m so sorry! You are so right that there appear to be an infinite number of images, but I promise I will get sick of it soon enough. For the time being, beyond being fun for me if not for you, one big plus is that you really can’t imagine how much time it saves me every morning not having to think of a subject and then search for an appropriate, copyright-free image, and the past month+ has been much busier than usual for me. But I do not at all mean to do them forever, & actually thought I’d be done by now. Will see if I can think of something else for next week. Do not promise to never show them again, but it’s true that I’ve never done one single subject for this long.
Also true that not being a fashion / design person, the whole Pantone thing totally passed me by until I started doing this (can’t remember why now!). So it’s all new to me, and I do like colors.
Are Hubble space photos free to use? How about fractals? Just throwing out some ideas 🙂
Believe it or not I had recently plotted a week of vegetables. Fractals & space photos work too. Whatever I do, some people will like it and some won’t.
and vintage postcards always work imo 🙂
I will probably do those on my next vacation, again…thanks to the lovely Boston Public Library on Flickr!
we should do a vegetal perfume poll to match!
I love Hubble pics! They’re stunning. I have a book list as well as a perfume list and a big book of Hubble pics is at the top.
I feel like their time-saving aspect is an excellent reason for you to keep using them for as long as you’d like, regardless of how I feel. There are certainly lots of Pantone fans here (e.g., floragal)! I was just venting because I thought I was alone in my Pantone-negative stance (glad to hear I’m not, though, Lovestosmellgood!).
Oh, always remember that if you are annoyed by something, chances are someone else is too 🙂
HAHAHA!
I really like the pantone images cuz I’m a color freak. In any case, I do a weekly schedule email to my massage clients and usually include an art image at the top. There is a lot of free public domain material on the internet through art museum sites such as the National Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum, The MFA, etc.
????????
Koyel, I’ve been missing the photos, too. Nonetheless, it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere and at some point the living needs to be easier.
You have a point. After all, fish are jumping and the cotton is high.
I like images of things that cannot be bought.
Scent cousins! I am wearing Hermes Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate. If that first fifteen minutes went on for an hour, I would think of buying a bottle.
Drinking some soda water with lime. It is a million degrees and all of the humidity in Miami this morning.
you lime water sounds refreshing
Inspired by an NSTer’s wearing of PHI yesterday that I decided this was what I needed today. Probably my favorite rose scent.
It really does work all year round.
I want some Phi!!
I loveeeeeeeee PHI so much
Did you order Dilettante from Twisted Lily? Just an FYI- they hadn’t received their shipment yet, so that may be why your order is delayed. He said it’s expected in today.
And you smell lovely.
A-ha! That’s why the delay. Well, I’ll be really excited once it finally does arrive!
I was looking forward to trying it, too, to see if there’s another OB scent I might like. Looks like I’ll have to go back ????
Wow – I was randomly craving PHI yesterday and ordered a decant. (It is completely addictive layered with a vanilla — PHI with Tihota is one of the best things I’ve ever smelled.) I love unknowingly being on the same perfume wavelength with someone!
OMG, I so have to try this when the weather is cooler. Thinking that Vanilla Flash and Rose Flash would work well too!
Diorella EDT, which isn’t quite a citrus cologne, but close enough. It’s so lovely and perfectly suits the not quite summery weather here today.
I wore Diorella yesterday, though I’m not sure which concentration. Anyway, I am confident that you smell wonderful today!
Austenfan I saw your comment to my Donatella, the site is an .nl one and is called parfumdeo. Weird name and their assortment changes a lot, they sometimes have very good Amouage deals as well, and some niche among the mainstreams.
Thanks a million, I will check them out.
My garden is really making me happy at the moment. I’ve got a massive jasmine bush which is just coming into bloom now. The smell in the evening is – well, not ‘deafening’, but quite overwhelming . In a good way. I now know how faithful to nature A La Nuit is.
Anyway, due to recent rains I found some strange mushrooms under the jasmine. Also, my poor little gardenia plant is not only not dead, it’s finally putting out a blossom bud, I give it another week to open up. So (this was a roundabout way to get to the point) – I’m wearing Aftelier Cuir de Gardenia! Next salary, I’m splurging on a bottle of this elixir.
Feeling some garden envy over here. Jasmine and gardenia are not even a possibility around these parts. Enjoy!
Yeah, I’m taking it one day at a time, as an amateur gardener capable of killing even the sturdiest plants…
“Massive jasmine bush” sounds great.
Yeah, um… It’s really big! It’s more like a tree really. Except it’s totally a bush.
Glad to hear you’re little Gardenia shrub is beginning to thrive!
Your garden sounds lovely! I have a potted gardenia that was effected by either a bacterial infection or souder mites, or both. It’s still with us but I list a lot if the buds. No new buds yet but plenty of new leaves. The flowers that did appear smelled heavenly! And I have a potted jasmine (sambac) that is about to bloom again. They smell very much like Lush Lust or Diptyque Jasmin- very fruity. Enjoy your Garden of Eden!
“Deafening” is a fabulous description for jasmine’s nighttime scent! I’m envious of your jasmine — I bought a small one at a plant sale a few months ago and had dreams of suffocatingly fragrant evenings, but it succumbed to a combination of heat wave and busy-with-the-baby neglect.
I kill even the hardiest plants (spider plant)…yay yay on Cuir de Gardenia….animalic yet lushly floral!
Well, it’s supposed to be about 92 degrees in Cleveland today and the air-conditioning at work is STILL BROKEN (has been all summer). Trying to keep a good attitude about it and Chasse aux Papillion is helping – for now.
Oh yike. Can you rig up a fan?
Yes, we have fans all over the place. They do help take the edge off.
Criminy. Stay hydrated!
When I was growing up, our reward for making it through a hot day was a coke (cherry coke, if we could find it). I hope you get a reward today!
Can my treat be a new bottle of Eau d’Hadrien? That’s what I am craving at the moment. Haven’t had any in years.
What does Mubarak mean, Robin? I can’t decide on a scent for this hot day, but I think I’ll go with Un Jardin en Mediterranée. Got a small decant yesterday and found it refreshing.
Mubarak means “blessed”, so Mubarak Eid is kind of like Merry Christmas or Happy New Year, I think.
Exactly!

Chanel Eau de Cologne today, given to me by a generous perfume homie. Sadly, I can barely smell this on myself, which is the case with most colognes. My skin eats them almost entirely, and I have to cram my face up to my arm (which I coated with it) to get even a hint of it. I may have to find this one a home with someone who has more cologne-friendly skin.
BUT – I returned from vacation to find a swap package containing vintage Jean Louis Scherrer from an NSTer!! So clearly this is going to go on now that I can’t smell the Chanel – going to green myself up in preparation to go outside again and swelter later in the day.
“Green myself up” sounds like an EXcellent plan. 🙂
I have the same difficulty with colognes – they last all of three nanoseconds on me. 4711 might be okay because its price is proportionate to its lasting power, but frankly I cannot understand buying an expensive fragrance like the Chanel, or the Guerlain everybody loves so much, for such a short-lived thrill.
It sounds like we have similar experiences. They really are refreshing when I first spray them on, but they just don’t stand a chance against my scent-eating skin.
Eau de Cologne went with me on my honeymoon years ago and when you are out of the city you can really smell it in all its glory.
I would love to smell it in all its glory! Sadly, I really do think my skin just eats it up and doesn’t let me fully experience it. Will have to smell it on someone else to get the full effect.
The EdC is a great one, but yes, so fleeting.
The Scherrer is a wonderful green scent. Enjoy it
Eau de Cologne twins!
And I hope you enjoy your green. Hmm, now I want something green, too . . .
I hope the plush oakmoss helped out your day…
Carnal Flower today, which would normally be over the top for the 100+ we’re supposed to get today. But, since the office A/C is set approximately to Arctic storm, it should work out okay. . .
You smell great. And CF works great in the cold, so you should be all set. 😉
Hey twin! I actually love tuberose perfumes in hot weather — to me they’re sort of an ‘if you can’t beat it (the heat), join it’ fragrance.
wearing grey today so I picked Balmain Ambre Gris.
I have a sample of that from the freebie meet..very nice! you smell lovely and I am sure it compliments your attire.
Santa Maria Novella Tabacco
I overlook this bottle too often, and when I remember it , it never disappoints.
I wish I had a bottle of it to overlook 🙂
Oooo, cologne day on Friday! I got that in spades .
To go with the theme slightly, I went with Epice Marine. I’m shocked at how quickly I’m going through my bottle
I think I could do a cologne month!
I’m not that deep but I could easily do a week.
L’eau de Chloe for a hot & sunny day, so green and refreshing, with a lovely ‘fizz’ to it, a real rose lemonade perfume. I blind bought a partial bottle on eBay after reading Victoria’s review, and now it’s a ‘go to’ summer staple.
You’re reminded me that I should show my bottle some love in the near future.
Gah! That should be “You’ve” not “you’re”. Spellcheck does not correct grammar errors, phooey!
SOTD MCG Hanbury. One of the few orange blossomy scents I like since the honey and beeswax seem to eliminate any soapiness, yet it’s not overly sweet. It’s just do darned pretty. And, so far, ok in the heat.
I did get to test the new Charenton Macerations scent yesterday. I found it to be pretty subtle. A bit leathery with some dirty musk and resins. I’ll have to give it another try since I was sensory overloaded.
Ohhhh, I love Hanbury!
I’ve been wondering about the new Charenton Macerations – I like the others, but reading the notes on this one I haven’t been inspired. Good to read your take on it (thus far.)
It was fun to test it because I only saw it on my way out, and didn’t know they had a new one- so no expectations at all. I’ll likely give it another shot when I’m there next. So far, I’d only consider owning Asphalt Rainbow, which I find very addictive. Christopher Street was a bit too relentless for me. But I do admire the brand as a whole.
Stay cool today! i went to Oslo for an ice coffee
Yum. I drank hot coffee this morning. It’s cool at work. Stay cool, yourself. Hugs to the cuties ????
Eau du Sud for me today. I have to admit, I’m getting a little tired of citrus.
But you do smell great!
Bvlgari Thé Vert for me today. I’m already so sick of summer in Texas! Went for a jog at 6am and it was already 80 degrees and sticky.
I was thinking about wearing Eau the Vert today. It is great and uplifting on very hot and humid days. You smell beautiful!
Yes, it’s really doing the trick!
????
Oh yick to 80F at 6 AM!
But you smell fresh!
Yep. I always dream of summer nights as lovely for sitting outside, enjoying the breeze and gazing at the stars. The reality is that I end up sticky, sweaty, coated in ineffective bug spray, and sneezing. Went out at 10 last night to round up the cats and had to take another rinse-off because I was so sweaty from walking down the driveway and back 🙁 The only things happy ’round here are the grass burs.
Haha yes, I agree with all that! I’ve been in TX 4 years now but am especially grumpy about this summer for some reason. Going outside is no fun at all!
1725 Casanova by Histoires de Parfums. Very nice, especially considering that I am not that fond of many of its elements in general. I just read it is strongly considered a masculine. Again I am mixing everything up 🙂
I really enjoy Casanova and happily wear it. I find all their masculines wearable, probably because none of them are full-on fougeres or ‘sporty’. And Jules Vernes smells similar to my beloved discontinued Gucci Envy for Men.
After tremendous thunderstorms all night, I am feeling sleepy and am wearing Le Labo Bergamotte 22 to wake me up. Sadly, it’s lovely and calm and would be perfect for a nap.. Zzzzzz
Nobody’s looking, I’m sure 😉
Rosabotanica. Again. Every now and again, I get a stuck on a scent for a few days…not something I plan…it just happens….anyone else had this happen to them?
It has happened to me many times. I remember recently wearing Annick Goutal Rose Absolue for more than 1 month every single day. I thought I was never going to get tired. Similar experience with Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere, Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist, Tom Ford Jardin Noir Cafe Rose among many others.
Happens to me frequently.
Yep. Has happened in the past two weeks, for me. Sometimes, a given scent is just PERFECT for more than a single day.
I started off with JM Mimosa and Cardamom, then wanted more cardamom so added L’Aromatica’s Kulfi. Then, since I already smell like dessert, I added Demeter’s Honey which I received as a freebie and is wonderful! I’m drinking my refreshing chai-spiced icy lime seltzer with extra ginger and cardamom.
I’ve been waiting for Ari’s announcement and here it is !!!: Arquiste’s Carlos Huber will be at Arielle Shoshana on Saturday, August 6th from 12-3. I’ve already sent out the meet-up email, but I figured some other people may not know about the DC area meet-ups or may be out of the area but interested in traveling here for the event. I’m so excited! Our last event was when Ari hosted Barbara Herman of Eris perfumes, and it was fantastic! We really have an incredible group and I’m so thrilled to be part of it. Y’all should come!
I’m drinking a chai latte at the airport, so beverage half-twins??
Absolutely!
I hope you have a good trip to Riga and a wonderful stay in Estonia. 🙂
That’s great news, Holly! It was so much fun to meet Barbara Herman and more area perfumistas at the last meet-up. Thank you for being a catalyst!
It’s so cool, right? Thank you for being part of it!
Boo hiss, I’ll be in Portland OR for my niece’s wedding reception. Carlos Huber is eye candy – yummy. Have FUN at the meet-up and please do report back!
Hump Day! Actually first day back to work for me.
1) The sales were ridiculous, and now I have to be super thrifty. A lot of (depression and grief related) shopping this holiday weekend, including a number of linen dresses, all of which I must make an effort to wear before summer ends. More relevant: Portland now has an outpost of Tom Ford ( a sign that the rent too damn high) so got samples of Rive Ambre, White Suede and Italian Cypress, both of which is better than the Portofino, in my humbl eopinion. I also bought a bottle of Jasmine by Molinard at Anthropologie, where it was on clearance for 29.95. (Robin bait there).
2) SOTD: Mild summer day, so Niki St. Phalle. Iced coffee with homemade almond milk and a side of blueberries.
You will look fantastic rocking your new dresses and smell great, too. So well done! And the best days of summer are still ahead.
Thank you! I feel pretty, at the very least!
Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate. A joyous Eid al-Fitr!
I’m in Sublime Balkiss and feeling most sublime myself.
You smell wonderful!
That’s a pretty open one. You smell lovely.
I am on CK in 2 for Her. I find this to be a fresh summery, citrusy and sweet scent. Fun to wear and long lasting. Kind of girlish. Not worth of a full bottle, but I am enjoying my small sample in this super hot and humid day.
It’s swampy hot and gross again today, so I showered myself (twice) in Cristalle.
Hi twin! You smell soooooo good.
You smell great!
I’m going on a short business trip to Riga before my holiday starts next week. I plan to stay in Riga over the weekend and then go home to Estonia, where we have three weeks of family engagements. J actually made an excel table to ensure everyone is covered – even the remaining grandparents in the family are divorced, so there are LOTS of visits to make! I’m not complaining, though, I’m completely exhausted and missing home.
I sprayed myself with Jo Malone Nashi (?) blossom at the airport and it’s frankly doing nothing for me. I slathered some Chanel Sublime mask on to compensate.
yes, the Nashi Blossom is rather uninspired. hope your business trip goes well!
Enjoy your holiday!
Nashi shampoo. Boringest (technical term) perfume ever.
Yes, exactly. I guess I’m fine with them doing those sakura/plum/nashi/sugarfairy shampoos as long as they keep doing the nicer stuff too.
Yes. Not even going on my list of “nice clean shampoo-y things for when I’m too lazy for real perfume”. I have smelled better for less.
Hermes Hiris is my SOTD . Happy Wednesday !
You smell lovely.
Grapefruit week continues. SOTM is Hermes Eau de Pamplemousse Rose; SOTA will be Pacifica Brazilian Mango Grapefruit, which I have in a rollerball but may spring for the spray someday so I can Get More On. It’s a fun tropical grapefruit scent.
I’d like to get a decant of that Hermes eventually. It’s gorgeous and whenever I’m in Sephora I go over and give myself a few sprays.
So refreshing!
Ooh, the Pacifica is great! (It’s funny for me because otherwise I hate mango.) I just remembered I have some of the solid perfume, so I’ll have to go hunt it down…
Roma Imperiale is my SOTD.
🙂
Cristalle EDP for this morning. I’d received an older form in a swap a while back and it took me a spell to get it, but now it is true love. I’ll be sad when it is gone.
Speaking of love, I can’t wait to get out of work tonight and throw on some Rose de Petra. The lovely Elisa P sent me some and I’m completely infatuated with it.
You’ll be smelling good all day today!
Bvlgari Omnia. Le Originale, in case you’re wondering. This is my Friday and I’m THRILLED!
Lucky you!
Enjoy your weekend then Deva!
On my way to the dentist and I’m wearing no 19. Vintage Bal isn’t a dentist perfume.
Good morning! Just spritzed on some Fresh Brown Sugar – that qualifies for citrus week since it is super lemony, more lemony than Lemon Sugar IMO.
And for those that wondered what my SOTD was on Jeopardy! taping day, it was CSP Vanille Mohka. I thought the coffee part would wake me up (had to be at the studio at 7 am!) and the vanilla would be comforting and help with nerves. Bonus for metal canister so no worries about breaking a bottle while traveling.
I still need to see the end of the episode, but do tell us — was it fun??
It was fun. It was all a blur and I have some regrets as I know I could have done better. There as there were a couple that I knew and didn’t ring in and I had a hard time with the buzzer timing – there were lots that I knew but didn’t buzz in fast enough. You have to time it properly because if you buzz in before Alex finishes reading the question, you get locked out for a half second. But I got to be on TV, won a little money, and met Alex, so it’s all good!
Congrats! It was fun to watch, but nerve-wracking. You appeared calm and collected. My husband was excited because the male contestant had the same name as he does. He reaaaalllly wants to be on that show.
Thanks! Tell him to take the online test if he hasn’t already – sign up to be notified on jeopardy.com. Test is usually in January, I think.
He’s taken it before, but that was a long time ago. I always bug him to try again. It’s amazing how much trivia his brain holds.
Bug him! This was the second time I took the test. And some people take it lots of times because it isn’t just based on your score – people (over a certain threshold I assume) are randomly selected because so many people take the test. Then they re-test and audition people and narrow it down again. Some people auditioned multiple times as well – I got lucky and just auditioned once.
That’s so cool! When were you on?
It aired last night!
So glad it was fun, and agree with Elisa — you looked completely calm!
Khol de Bahrein for me today on a cold sunny day. I’m not envying any of your sweltering weather but I do miss the warmth. Still, considering we have about 9 months of warm/hot to 3 of cold/wet I really can’t complain as it’ll be over before I can blink!
I would switch places with you in a sec! LOL! I love the cold and hate the heat!
Bottega Veneta, because I am inside enjoying the AC instead of sweltering outside in the humidity. 🙂
Can’t decide if I will go out at all today.
My Monsieur Balmain picked a good week to show up, so that’s what I’m wearing today – I love it! Weirdly I do not love Vent Vert, which also showed up, and which I was totally expecting to love because Cellier. It’s for the best though, it’s always sort of a relief to not love something vintage!
SOTD is SL Sa Majeste la Rose. I felt like a light rose without citrus and this one fit the bill.
I need to try the Tauer Rose Oil!
Happy Hump Day to Everyone!
My SOTD is “Summer” by Dasein. This fragrance is described as a crisp, green-tinted citrus. This is a total scrubber for me. OMG! One of the notes is cilantro – which IMO overpowers the other notes ( grapefruit, jasmine, orange blossom, and grass).
I love cilantro – in my food and not in my fragrance.
I think if this note were left out,it probably would have been perfect.
Oh well, can’t love them all.
Anyone else ever try this one? Thoughts?
Cilantro/Coriander is a love it or hate in a fragrance. To me it smells like part of a curry, so I don’t want in a fragrance!
Noted: so if I don’t like Cilantro and see Coriander, I will know I probably wouldn’t like that either.
Good morning, all. I love reading all your summer perfume choices and remembering that it’s warm all day, and probably all night too, in The Other Hemisphere. It ‘s cold and rainy here, grey and dull, a sad old day. And it’s Exam Board: three hours of excruciatingly minute and painstaking decisions about whether this student should be excluded from the degree or that student’s extenuating circumstances are sufficient to allow another chance. Also, because the marks in my major are significantly lower than last year’s, and lower than the other majors, I expect attacks (sighs heavily and thinks “How tedious!”). Anyway, to lessen the tedium and to assist me in defending my borders, I’m wearing 31 Rue Cambon, which is ever glorious: effortlessly elegant and always urbane and charming. Believe me, Exam Board does not deserve 31 RC, so this is my act of kindness for Thursday.
That is a very generous act of kindness, and you smell fabulous, so hang in there!
You are kind! How was Melbourne? Did you exceed your perfume baggage allowance?
Melbourne was–crowded, busy, gorgeous, full of cool walks (culturally and literally cool–it was REALLY cold) and warm museums; some shopping, but not much, and less perfume than I had planned, partly because I was sick again. Got a migraine on the plane, so bad they put me on oxygen, which made me noticeable, and that was hugely embarrassing, but resistance was futile–some of those Air New Zealand flight attendants are as forceful as old time hospital matrons! So Melbourne wasn’t quite everything I had hoped, but South Australia, no the other hand, was. For six days my sister and i did nothing but talk and laugh and shriek and laugh and expostulate and laugh and reminisce and laugh–you get the general idea. I gave my little talk on perfume to her ladies, and that seemed to be OK, and I don’t think my sister realised that I was still quite unwell, which is what I wanted, because older sisters are also forceful…I loved my trip, but I was also pleased to come home.
You smell elegant, and sometimes elegance is the only armor we have against cold grey days.
!عد مبارك And Happy Hump Day.
SOTD is Maria Candida Gentile Rrose Sèlavy, thanks to a kind perfume fairy. I think by dabbing it I’ve more or less skipped past the green facets, but I am getting delicious clove/peppery spiciness with the rose.
I have the 15ml size. I actually like the green aspect. And I also get some salt. I find it fairly short-lived sprayed. How are you finding the staying power?
I’d like the green, too. I just think by dabbing it, it sort of passes up some of the top notes. (Also, my skin seems to really emphasize middle and base notes somehow, even when I spray.) The spice has worn away now to a very pleasant woodiness. I don’t feel like I have a ‘definitive’ take on the longevity yet, since I only applied a smidge. (Plus, given that it’s extrait, it’s going to probably stay quite close). *But*, I can still smell it (up close) after at least 5 hours.
My dries decant, because I wondered if it would work in the semi summer we’re having…
Poisoned Fig by The Rising Phoenix Perfumery on one hand and More Beauty than the beast on the other. I am very impressed with the fig – very smoky honey woody fix. Really like it.
Was this sex in a bottle?
Heh. Close to it 🙂 Ping me when you are back from vacay, send you some
Dame Lime, Gardenia and Benzoin today, from a small decant. I like each note but for some reason this doesn’t really speak to me.
Forgive me, Donatella, but ere’s a strategy for anyone seeking to purchase less of anything, including perfume:

Testing Masque Milano Romanza, a very pretty floral. L’Atessa did not work for me.
Ugh. Donatella sad now.
🙂
I love Romanza and L’Attesa! What about the latter doesn’t work for you?
I don’t know. It should have worked because I love iris and leather. I should give it another chance.
Nozknoz, I didn’t like L’Attesa dabbed but have not given up yet because spraying apparently works much better and I am just waiting to acquire a spray sample. The dabbed version became Sour Patch Kids on me.
Calyx for me today. There was a little while this morning where I felt like I was getting the garbage-y note more strongly than usual, but it’s calmed down now.
Scent twin, minus the garbage note.
Good morning sweet- smelling sisters/ brothers. I am wearing Black Flower Mexican Vanilla so Happy Birthday Frida! This perfume flew in to my letterbox yesterday ( along with Dark Horse and 6 samples of soliflores ) just as my mother and Byzance flew out. First impressions…I prefer Dark Horse for the nutmeg spiciness but Black Flower is nice and homely …..it reminded me why I don’t actually wear vanilla perfumes that often but like to have them around for security! Had a ( literally ) cool time in Wanaka at the book/ film festival, sleeping in a little wooden hut with no heating. Had to keep my hat and down jacket on all night to prevent my ears from freezing to the pillow. Missed you all!
Wanaka in winter with no heating! That’s cruel and unusual punishment!
You smell great! I think I’ll dab on some Black Flower Mexican Vanilla tomorrow. …Brrr, that kind of cold makes my desert bones very confused.
My neighbor is celebrating Eid, and she has cooked and shared her family’s favorite foods for the holiday with my family. So many sweets, and some with rosewater. Mmmmmm. I feel blessed. Eid Mubarak indeed!
The weather is warmer today.
SotD = Chanel Eau de Cologne
C’est parfaite.
BOOM.
*drops microphone* 😀
My mouth is watering now. I can’t say if it’s eaten as part of Eid al-Fitr, but one of my favorite desserts is basbosa, which I got hooked on in Egypt. Shoot, I really want some now!
So late today…went on a preschool tour for my just turned 3 year old…makes me emotional thinking about her going to school already…the feels!
I doused myself in 1932 this morning and I really like it. I am wondering how the extrait differs so please weigh in if you have tried both.
As with all Chanel Exclusifs…wondering if I should pull the trigger and get a full bottle before Sept….can’t believe it is July already…where does the time go….
She-Ra, what is happening with the Exclusifs in September? Another price hike?
The word on the street, and from various SAs, is the Exclusifs will be reformulated in Sept or perhaps just relabeled as EDPs without any change. But based on the higher price points for Boy, it is expected prices will go up for the Exclusifs regardless of any changes to the formulas. There have been threads….

Thank you for posting the links! Just checked them out. I’ve been out of the circuit for a few months and had missed this rather disheartening news.
In my opinion, 1932 EDT is sharper and more spiky whereas the Extrait is rounder / smoother. Have you tried Boy Chanel? I found Boy and 1932 EDT to be similar.
Thanks…I did sample Boy sometime last week and I can see the similarity now that you mention it…
Tomorrow I shall experiment with one on each arm! I love nothing more than sniffing my forearms all day. 🙂 Makes me feel like I’m doing it for science sometimes.
It is an impossibly hot day here in eastern NC and I’m in Ylang 49, which is beautiful in the heat.
SOTD was Vetiver Tonka and SOTE is vintage Fidji. Loving my perfumes today!
OMG -‘I am commando I was so busy rushing around packing that by the time the car came, I plain forgot! Got to the airport super early with all the TSA horror stories. It took me longer to check in than to go through TSA. Thankfully, I have United Club passes so my sister and I are living the high life right now while “the boys” are mingling with the hoi polloi :-).
Perfume-wise, I ended up packing Chanel No. 19 EDP and Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant, in addition to my No. 5 EDT travel staple.
Besides my reward for steps, I will reward myself with extra TBD $$$s if I gain no more than 2 pounds (you know, water weight) and if I maintain or go down, my perfume kitty will get …. fatter!
Bon voyage! Good luck with the rewards!
You’re gonna smell great while you’re sightseeing and earning your rewards!
Enjoy Yourself!
I just put on perfume after being in the car for 10 hours. Philosykos is a lovely “welcome home” scent.
I’m wearing Ninfeo Mio, lovely.
I have a friend who only wears Molecules and wants to find something similar that smell clean as well, any suggestions? I thought of En Passant…
SOTN: Tesing Van Cleef Orchidee Vanille and Chanel 28 La Pausa .
The Orchidee Vanille is amazing, but I am surprised that the La Pausa is a big MEH for me. I am a Chanel girl, and adore iris; but this smells like rubbing alcohol and sadness on me. Likely saves me a bundle.
After all the whining about Parfum Sacre versions, tonight I sprayed from the original decant I got from STC (the first PS I bought that started the whole quest), and I really like this one! It’s light but still pretty woody. It may be that it sort of reacts differently on skin that has been sweating in 90 degree weather. When I tried it last winter, it became instant baby powder.
