Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in CK One, developed by Alberto Morillas (along with Harry Fremont).
Reminder: on 5/27, wear a fragrance by Alberto Morillas, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: image is from the SS 2016 Calvin Klein Collection campaign.
Mugler cologne for me today! I keep my CK One in the fridge, so refreshing on a hot day!
Yum!
Wow, potentially Top 10 SOTD comment today.
It’s summer in the Big City! Wah, I want Fall weather.
SOTD = Atelier Cologne Sous le Toit de Paris
It is so refreshibg on this warm day. I may have to ger a back-up as my 200 mL bottle (from which I’ve split out 150 mLs ) is now running low.
You smell great! I love Sous le Toit, had to get 200mls all to myself. :-). I am pretending it’s fall since we have a nice breeze this morning.
Thanks! I have a 30 mL back-up but when it’s this good, I don’t ever want to run out. I fervently wish for body products in this scent!
I missed this one completely when I went to Atelier in NY. Is it less promoted than the others?
Because it is only available in the boutiques and online, it doesn’t get the mainstream exposure. I’m planning to go to Twisted Lily tomorrow and may pop into the boutique across the street. (Plus, I have a gift card I have to use by March 2017 and time flies!
Spring is gone in the big apple.. I enjoyed it while it lasted
If I have a choice, it will be Fall and in the low 50s all day everyday!
You smell fantastic. That’s my favorite one from their line and the only one I’d consider getting a bottle.
Thank you! It is definitely FBW!
Mmm, I still love this one!
Yes!
SOTD is The Dreamer. No Morillas perfume in my cabinet, so I won’t be joining Friday’s Project this week
I should dig that one out–I remember it being an interesting oddball–more like something that CdG would release than a mainstream masculine.
You smell great anyway!
Thanks!
It was in the 80s yesterday and will be again today. Time to break out the White Shoulders!
There’s a real oldie!
I bet White Shoulders smells fantastic on your skin.
So good that it’s been a summer staple for years
You’re a lucky ducky
I used to love that when I was a kid… would always sneak a sniff at the drugstore.
me too!
Ditto!
I miss the days when there were fragrance test bottles out on the perfume counter at every drug store. White Shoulders is one I love to sniff from the bottle.
Yeah, testers disappear pretty quickly in drug stores these days. 🙁
Prescriptives Calyx, I felt a little under the weather this morning, and there are few fragrances more uplifting than Calyx. Tomorrow will be dedicated to Morillas.
Hope you feel better tomorrow when the weather is supposed to be nice. I love her pic ;-)!
I hope you feel better austenfan.
Feel better soon!
Thanks for all the kind wishes!
Feel better soon!
Bummer about not feeling well. Hope you’re better soon!
Omnia Crystalline for me from a little travel atomizer. I am surprised how often I wear this, but I think that has more to do with the travel atomizer being handy. It is nice, but I have many things in the office friendly category I like better.
I am drinking some iced peppermint tea while they work on the office air con.
I wear Crystalline more than I do the original Omnia. I don’t think OC is better, but it is so wearable and just plain nice.
Perfect description-one of my first “non-green” and work friendly perfumes.
Scent Twins!
I hope they fix your air conditioner quickly 🙂
Déclaration Essence (Cartier).
Nice choice.
I’m wearing Regime des Fleurs Nymphaea Caerulea that – according to the information provided – includes lotus/waterlily, white ambergris and salty water notes (plus about 80 others). I really liked the beginning that smelled true to the description, but rich and complex. Then it turned quite aquatic, thinner and less interesting in the middle and now the dry-down is more complex again. But it’s so close to the skin that I feel I’m not getting the entire story – I only have a dabber sample and it’s also (mostly?) natural. I just don’t smell enough to make any definitive pronouncements, but the line is certainly interesting.
Sounds lovely! What makes the dry down more complex?
I just had two glasses of champagne and am in no position to answer that question. I’ll try to come back to it at some point in the future 🙂
🙂
Aaah, the one I had the most interest in! I generally enjoy aquatics, and soft sillage is a bonus in my office. Hopefully Lucky Scent will have samples of NC again soon, but for $425 for 8ml, I would really need to try out a spray sample. Maybe TPC or StC will start to carry?
Thank you for your review, looking forward to reading about the others!
$425 for 8ml is surely a typo?
Only technically – the website sells 8.5ml flasks for $425. Does the .5 make a difference?
It’s the extra $400 😉
I picked this one because you were interested 🙂 If you like aquatics, it’s definitely worth trying. The price is scary, though.
The price is terrifying, even Donatella would do a double take 🙂
But who knows, if it’s true love, then it will go on the FB list and maybe one day come to fruition as a gift, 10-year anniversary, maybe?
Yes, that’s my thinking as well. Five years ago, spending 150 or 200 euros on a perfume also seemed completely unlikely, but I’ve done it several times now. Plus, sometimes it’s just interesting to smell things, even if I may not be able to buy them.
Wearing Chamade today. I’m not sure which version as it is from a small decant that doesn’t say. Can Chamade lovers here (Ann?) advise on what strength (EdT, EdP, Extr) they love most? The extrait is beyond budget now, but that may change one day. Victoria of BdJ is positive about the current versions, I think that is the one in the (on the pics) somewhat ugly cannister with holes.
I also thought of a Friday project, wear the scent that is currently your favourite (all time or this season), but maybe this has been done before.
I only have the extrait but it is wonderful. I would like to smell the other versions to compare.
I agree, I’ve got the extrait as well. Not the most recent version, which apparently is even better. I’ve never tried either EDT or EDP.
I have the somewhat ugly canister with holes in the edt. I love it.
I didn’t even know there was an EDP, although now I see it on Fragrantica. Victoria of BdJ doesn’t mention EDP, only vintage and current, extrait and edt.
I’m happy with eau de toilette.
The extrait is gorgeous! I only had one of those tiny 2ml microminis of it, but I enjoyed every drop. I have a weird 1970s bottle with EdT and it’s lovely once the first wonky five minutes go by. I have two decants of 1980s parfum de toilette and that’s gorgeous too, slightly more powdery than the other iterations I’ve tried. Chamade seems wonderful in whatever concentration.
I pretty much think that Chamade is nearly the same in all the versions that I have smelled and used. But I’ve not smelled what is very currently for sale so I can’t comment about that. I have vintage PDT, and year 2000-ish edt (from the refill of the weird canister bottle) and year 2000-ish extrait. The extrait is just a tad bit more rose, but all the different versions I have pretty much smell the same and have nearly similar lasting powers. Chamade really wants to stick around! Which is good b/c it is so wonderful. Chamade is one of my HG fragrances for a good reason!
I only have the extrait, as well, and it’s vintage, and was not at all beyond budget on Ebay. 😉 I can report that it’s absolutely heavenly in extrait form!
Thank you all!
Still going strong with the Morillas goodies…..
SOTD: 212 VIP. The perfume Grinch in my office is on vacation, so I can get away with this stronger scent today…..I love it! LOL 🙂
You know, I don’t even think I smelled that one! Enjoy your freedom.
Vintage Salvador Dalí parfum: the top has gone to hell and smells like overripe bananas and industrial solvent, but after that is pure eighties bliss, a big gorgeous complex floral oriental chypre.
That’s a great description of ruined top notes.
I used to have a mini of this when I was in high school and it smelled so delicious and exotic. I wish I still had that mini bottle!
Nice cool breeze this morning so I am wearing Profumum Fiori d’Ambre, hoping it doesn’t get too hot.
SOTD testing Odin 12 Latcha
I don’t know, everything in this line seems to smell the same to me. I’ll see in a few hours how it develops.
This is the coolest May I can remember in southern CA and I am making the most of it by wearing some scents that would normally be out of rotation until winter.
Encre Noire this morning and for a bit of cozy this evening, Absolue pour le Soir.
Ooh, I’m intrigued at the thought of these two layered together. Might have to give it a try.
Ever since I read FK’s interview here, I’m determined to get myself a bottle of AplS. I can’t make it profitable but by God I will have some if he discontinues it.
Is it discontinued?! 🙁
Oh, no no but he said he only just had a new batch made for the first time in 7 years, and that he only sold 28 bottles last year. I want to be prepared.
Oh wow! I know it’s probably considered a difficult fragrance, but I didnt realise just how difficult. Well, actually, that’s probably not true. I remember the first time I tried it I was horrified at the urinous smell on my arm, but after several months actually started craving it.
I love APLS, and would definitely buy a bottle if he offered it in a smaller size, but as it is its just too expensive. I’ll bet he’d sell a lot more if it was available in the travel sprays like some of his other scents.
I bought a FB a couple of years ago, and I had no idea I was in such a tiny minority until I read the interview. It doesn’t smell at all urinous or otherwise unpleasant to me, but I don’t dare wear it outside the house for fear of what others may smell
That sounds really rather good.
SOTD is 24 Faubourg, which is gorgeous anytime, anywhere. Tomorrow, I’m predicting Robin and I will be twins. Stay tuned. 🙂
Aha — and I am wavering between 2 fragrances!
Wearing L’Orpheline today, thanks to a lovely perfumista. I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for this to hit discounters.
That’s a great one.
A hot sticky day ahead of us here. I’m wearing Bulgaria Black for its dry, powdery effect.
You smell great, in any weather!
Merci! ????
I rise in my Calvins? Bwhahahaha! Someone was having a funny goof with that ad.
SOTM: a little tea for two just because it was sitting there looking up at me with it’s big reproachful eyes. They know they’re getting the hatchet and now they are trying to get on my good side. Well, tea for two, this morning you did.
Yeah, I don’t know who selected that verb (I’m picturing a middle school boy), but they are having the best day ever giggling at that ad.
They’re getting the hatchet from YOUR collection or from l’AP?? I love Tea for Two, and if they’re getting rid of it, I’d better hurry!!
Oh from my collection! No need for alarm.
WHEW!
Now that I’ve calmed down, I can agree that that is one ridiculous ad. I expect the terminus of the underscore was also intentional.
I think it was a fill in the blank (or in this case fill in the Calvin) challenge
I think I would fill in the blank with I…pick up a tiny bicycle….in my Calvins
Sajini, I’m SHOCKED. 🙂
Wearing another Morillas today: Kenzo Flower. It’s very powdery (not my favorite thing), but the 4 ml mini bottle is darling!
I don’t like Flower at all, it’s the kind of powder that makes me feel very uncomfortable, but the bottle is lovely. Has the mini got the poppy as well?
It sure does! It’s an exact replica of the big bottle. I admire Flower more than I actually like it: it’s an ingenious scent but the powder really is too much.
Twins! I have 2 Morillas perfumes, but I am not particularly in love with either. I liked them more when I bought them though.
I never quite liked Flower (loved one of the flankers back in the day, though), but that bottle always made me want to buy it anyway
I like powders more than I thought I did, but Flower is POWDER. Could never wear it for more than a few minutes. It does smell nice to me in someone’s Flower wake.
Today will be Bronze Goddess EL by Alberto Morillas. Summer has arrived!
Most excellent pick for a summer day!! 🙂
You smell lovely. The enablers convinced me to get the body cream- which luckily doesn’t count .
Thanks Robin for the Calvin pic:) sotd is Chance eau vive. which I think is the best of the bunch.
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Royal Bain de Champagne from the 1960’s.
Voodoo Chile indeed.
This weather is making me giddy. Yah high 80s with humidity.
YMMV. LOL. 😉
If you stand on a podium and shake the bottle really hard does perfume spray everywhere?
😆
The other day, I temporarily changed my awful blond highlights to pink, so of course, I needed something to match. Gourmand Coquin today, as I audition it for a slot on my FB list. Unfortunately, as much as I like it (and I really do!), I’m not convinced I need 2.5 oz of it. It’s delicious and joyful, but I’m not sure how much wear it will realistically get.
Gourmand Coquin was my favourite of the three original Elixirs Charnels, but there is no way (to me) it’s worth the asking price, not when there are so many similar vanilla-heavy scents out there for so much less money. You could buy 100-mL bottles of Amour de Cacao, Vanille Extreme, AND Vanille Abricot for less, and have four times as much. Heck, you could buy the set of the five Maison de la Vanille scents from Luckyscent and then purchase any three full bottles for less.
HAHA, well gosh, when you put it that way…. 😀
But then you would have too many mLs of perfume! How are you ever going to use them up? I say stick with the 75!mLs of the Guerlain if you like it a lot 😉
I hope you have pink highlights at the next meet up. I would love to see them- I bet they are fantastic.
So many Guerlains are great to wear but hard to own because of $$. Interestingly, the Saks SA said there are clients who buy several bottles of the same fragrance each year for themselves. It’s the polar opposite of the NST community.
Yikes, I can’t even imagine spending $250 multiple times in a single shopping trip. (Nor can I imagine actually needing multiple bottles that size.)
Of course, I was at The Perfume House last year and a man there bought 3 or 4 perfumes after smelling just about every rose scent they had. He said it was cheaper than where he was from. I tip my imaginary hat to him!
🙂
Three cheers for unnatural hair colors! Do you know where you’ll head after pink?
I’m growing out the blond and planning to replace them with brown highlights that are slightly lighter than my natural color (boring 🙂 ). But in the meantime, since blond makes such a good canvas, I figured I’d try out something fun. Maybe if I can find a good electric blue, I’ll give that a shot before the blond is all gone.
That sounds so cute, I admire your sense of adventure.
Do you think those people buying multiple bottles are finding a way either to resell at a higher price elsewhere, or take the cost as a (questionable) tax deduction as work attire or something?
Senses of adventure are greatly enhanced when you have nothing to lose. Funny thing is that I don’t think a single person has noticed my pink hair, which leads me to believe that we can all get away with being more daring than we think.
I don’t know if this particular guy had any ulterior motives–he seemed so enthusiastic about the scents, it’s hard for me to believe he was in it for anything other than joy. But then again, I guess if he figured out a way to game the system, that’s one way to reduce the financial burden of a multi-bottle shopping trip.
SOTD is MFK Amyris femme. I’ve been hitting the MFK fragrances quite often the past couple of weeks. Tomorrow I will be spraying one of my Alberto Morilla’s perfumes.
Me too! I recently received the MFK discovery set for women as a gift and have been having all kinds of fun spritzing away. 🙂
Thursday… ah, one more day!
SOTD for me is a combo of Afterlier’s chocolate saffron body oil, and Guerlain’s Gourmand Coquin. Yes, I smell absolutely delicious and feel much comfort (albeit superficial) in being layered in such notes.
Delectable!
You sound good enough to eat. 🙂
Tell me more about this body oil! How does Your skin feel, smell?
Hi Lovestosmellgood…! the body oil is not a heavy oil, and seems to sink right into my skin. I don’t find it to be super moisturizing, but my skin is also not dry so maybe with dryer skin it is more obvious that it is moisturizing well. I’m glad that it’s not an oil slick.
The smell fades within an hour but it’s still there if you put your nose to your skin.
Sounds fantastic
Yum!
Yum x 2
I’m wearing Daisy Dream, from a sample that I was reminded of by commenters mentioning it earlier this week. I don’t have many things by Morillas and two I’ve worn recently and I don’t want to repeat too often. I can’t decide between Omnia Crystalline or Flower for tomorrow.
SOTD is MH Fleur de Sel from a sample provided by a very nice NSTer. I quite like it. Florals always seem to get really big on my skin, but this is offset nicely by the Vetiver. If a bottle knocked at my door, I would certainly welcome it.
Sort of Alice in Wonderland but I wish that bottles would knock on my door too. Nice visual, thanks for the laugh Deva! 🙂
Fleurs de Sel is really gorgeous stuff. I would love to have a large decant of this! It smells like what I remember of Greece to me – all that sea air, mountain air, sage and other herbs….
Good heavens, that sounds marvelous. I’ll have to try to get my hands on a sample.
great description and very apt!
It smells less flowery and more herbal to me. Very evocative scent. Hope that bottle makes it’s way over to ya’!
In with you on this. I get very little flower. But I still like it!
I found it somewhere online pretty inexpensively – wish I could remember where.
SSS Rose Volupté, which, I must say, I’m finding quite marvelous.
You smell great!
Inspired by foxbins’ choices yesterday, I’ve topped off my DK Black Cashmere shower gel with Etro Sandalo. Mmmmm
Can’t wait for the long weekend!
Oh, that sounds like a great combo.
SOTD is Roma Imperial. It’s lovely but short lived. I’ll be pulling a decant out of my stash this afternoon.
You smell lovely. We’re scent relatives today. RI lasts very long in my skin!
I work with a perfume dictator so I only used 2-3 spritzes this morning. The problem with allergies is that I have to spray liberally to smell some of my scents all day. I am still getting occasional whiffs but not the whole scent. It’s frustrating but office etiquette must be observed. Poor me… 🙂
That guy. RI is very office friendly IMO.
Short lived? Luckily that fabulous stuff lasts a full day on me- at least 8hrs!
I have you to thank for this find perthgirl. I would never have found this scent if not for one of your comments last year. It’s a beauty.
And I’m pretty sure I owe my LB Roma acquisition to perthgirl, as well.
Limon Verde for the warm weather… Ted baker floral skirt I scored on sale..with a tank top and a long Chrysoprase necklace for anyone that is into crystals
Tea today is homemade chai
Chrysoprase sounds lovely for spring. Is the apple green or the yellowy-green?
Green color
????
Cousins? In a splash of Tokyo Bloom.
I enjoy Limon Verde a lot. Nice for summer.
I get a fig , do you ?
This sounds pretty wonderful, and very refreshing.
SOTD for our second day of deliciously hot summery weather is Cartier So Pretty.
You smell great, I do like So Pretty.
SOTD is Grace by Grace Coddington. It’s really pleasing for this warm weather. I smell soft rose and peach with very muted musk at the base. I’m impressed with the longevity. I don’t think it’s a must have if you have other easy to wear rose fragrances. However, bottle and the pouch with cat drawings are appealing for feline fanatics! I will confess that I blind ordered it from Aedes because I love Grace Coddington’s style and her untamed mass of red hair 🙂
This was my first order from Aedes and they were amazingly generous with a wonderful variety of samples.
I’m not sure I’d wear that one as I prefer deeper rose scents, but I really want that bottle!!! Yes, I’m a feline-o-phile????
The bottle is really cute. It would probably look really great on your dresser…. just sayin..
It would… Hmmm
It’s going to be hot today, so I’m in Laura Biagotti Roma. A nice, light, aromatic creamsicle. It’s my birthday(again, ugh) and I’m working while my husband goes to the beach today since he’s off. Something is wrong with this picture. But my job is not too taxing. I’ll switch to a more festive scent tonight for dinner out.
Happy birthday to you! You should make it a “birthday weekend” with the holiday and all!
Enjoy your dinner tonight and best wishes for a really fabulous year ahead 😉
Thanks Floralgal! Yes, I’m all for Waterdragon’s “extended birthday” concept.
In my family, we regularly celebrate for two weeks ahead and one week after the birth date. It’s much more festive and less stressful to get everyone in.
I like your tradition!
I like your lack of birthday enthusiasm. But have a good one anyway!
Ha! I’d be much more enthused if I were at the beach today. But I plan to celebrate this weekend and, of course, treat myself to something nice 😉
Very good!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Elisa! I hope you have fun celebrating tonight and hopefully the party will extend into this weekend too!
Happy Birthday Elisa P!
Best birthday wishes! Do what I’m doing and stretch the day out!
A very Happy a Birthday to you????
Happy birthday! I hope your evening and weekend more than make up for any festivity you’re missing out on by not being at the beach!
Happy Birthday!
It’s better to have a birthday than the alternative. Hope you have fun!
Tis true. I’m not really as cynical as I sound. My life is pretty sweet and I have little to complain about.
Happy Birthday! And have a lovely evening out. 🙂
happy birthday!!
HAPPY Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your evening out and celebrate all weekend.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Party all weekend.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your evening out, and make the weekend a holiday for *you*!
Happy birthday! My job is none too taxing right now either…that’s why I keep showing up 😉
Happy birthday, and you smell great; I love Roma.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!!!
Thanks for all the birthday wishes! I’m in the company of John Wayne(I think my father may have planned it that way), Sally Ride, Miles Davis, Stevie Nicks, and Helena Bonham Carter to name a few. I started my self-gifting by buying 2 vintage chiffon or georgette summer dresses on my lunch break ????
Hope you had a happy day
Happy Birthday! They do come around rather quickly, don’t they 🙂
Happy Birthday, Elisa P! Mine was the 20th. May is a lively birthday month for the NST crew.
Happy birthday, Elisa P!
Happy Birthday!
I’ve been travelling and therefore am limited to samples and a couple of travel sprays. JM Velvet Rose and Oud has been the most used. Oddly, today it’s been quite oudy. Not sure whether I will end up buying it, but as I am in England at the moment perhaps the price is a little less painful…
Oh look, it’s almost noon and I’m just now actually getting to do work! UGHHH.
After all the interruptions this week the internet in our office decided: nope, screw you! So 3+ hours of my day have been entirely wasted again. The universe is seriously conspiring against me getting anything done.
Luckily, I am home now (yay!) with consistent internet and ZERO annoying coworkers (yay!) stopping me. So, time to buckle down now and FINALLY get to my reports!
It’s also disgustingly hot and humid out so I’m doused in Cristalle.
You smell lovely. Have a lovely productive afternoon.
Cristalle is very good for dealing with hectic workdays!
Jenkr, saw your comments yesterday and wanted to share this with you. Astrologer Susan Miller says that of 8 planets, 5 are retrograde during most of May. So don’t try to get anything done. Yup.
Looking for houses in the Charlotte area Tuesday, someone took a corner off my car at 50 mph. Glad its almost June.
In Good Girl Gone Bad–which I knew I wasn’t in the mood for, but thought I’d come around.
I think I smell like fancy dish-washing soap.
Not much love for that scent. Every comment that I’ve read sounds meh at best.
I actually quite like the scent, but I think it is such a happy, silly, sunny day scent, that my grey day and dark mood proved too much of a lift for it. Metaphor for this perfume moment?:
I really feel like watching Casablanca, but the only thing showing is Love Boat reruns.
Ha!
Love that image!
Excellent ????
😀
Yes, very funny, but hope you’re feeling better, Oakland.
Very vivid description! I shuddered a bit at it.
Hello. I should be asleep, but I’m not, and now I’m directly disobeying the instructions of my new (bossy, young) doctor who told me On No Account to use electronic devices if I’m awake at night. I’ve tried thinking about nice things and concentrating on my breathing and all that jazz, and it’s all a beastly botheration, so here I am NST, drinking tea, thinking how gorgeous you all smell and wishing my feet were warmer. No SOTD yet for the cold Friday that’s about to dawn, but I can just catch trace of Donna Karan Iris, which I wore to bed. It’s still pretty, very wearable, but unremarkable. I think I might wear Fate today, just ‘cos I want something golden to counter the greyness of the weather. I’ll do the project tomorrow. Yawning…might doze. G’night, all.
I like to listen to the BBC world news on my radio when I can’t sleep. I turn the volume to just that I can barely hear it. All those Brits chatting and occasionally shouting away lulls me to sleep when I can’t really hear what they are saying.
I listen to BBC documentaries on my Ipad. I turn the screen away from my face so the light doesn’t disturb me. Those monotone voices usually do the trick.
Great minds! I am very lucky that a regional college radio station carries it overnight.
I think your doctor may be right, the lights from screens tends to keep me awake and there have been several studies that suggest it is because the light tricks your brain into thinking it is day and you should be active.
My brother downloaded f.lux and said it eases his transition from computer screen to sleep.
Sweet dreams!
My doctor said the light was not a problem if you are able to fall asleep. She said waking up later was not from the blue light. So she said to consolidate the sleep cycles by getting really tired and staying up until 1 am, hoping to train my body to sleep well for 5 hours. Well, after a few days of that, I was absolutely ill and not sleeping better. I found the best therapy is vigorous exercise. Unfortunately, rearranging perfume samples is not sufficient!
There are light blocking glasses to wear if you need to look at your devices.
You could always count samples like sheep…..
Ok. I must not have enough samples 😀
Maybe if you had more samples… 🙂
🙂
Yes, need more to count!
You’re all so kind! I dozed a bit, which is better than I often do. Thanks for the tip about the BBC. I’ve not found my way to them, but I should. When I’m awake for hours, which I often am, I watch a lot of kapa haka, and catch up with John Clarke and Brian Hawes, read all sorts, do the ironing, sometimes mark assignments, and generally try not to feel anxious about being awake when I know I need sleep..Lately, though, I’ve found it impossible to relax and accept that I’m awake, and I’m getting splitting headaches almost daily. I get cross with myself, with noisy people, with loud car stereos, with the whole sleeping world, actually, and I seem to be dangerously tired all the time. I’m going to go back to see this child with two medical degrees –honestly, I swear he doesn’t need to shave yet!– and ask for a magic pill. Well, three magic pills, actually. Someone at work told me that the trick is to break the pattern of sleeplessness three nights in a row, so, three sleeping tablets.
I occasionally use an herbal sleep aid, around the time the light changes, and I think the 3-night idea is on target.
Recently I devised a project I want to work on in the next 6-12 months, that I’m pretty excited about. It seems that if I think of that at night, it generates some kind of happy hormones that cause me to fall asleep quite quickly. Make a plan for some perversely joyous future project and see if it works….
VC&A Bois d’Iris. This suits my skin wonderfully well. If it was back in the day of single signature scents, this one would be a candidate for me.
You smell lovely.
🙂
Trying OJ Woman today…
This is a beauty! Like a Christmas tree at first and now some powder.
Unusual and interesting.
You smell divine!
Twins! I’m enjoying this one thanks to an extremely generous NST-er. 🙂 Someone here was asking about Artemesia scents a few days ago, and OJ Woman has something in it that’s a ringer for one of the Artemesias that’s native to California’s central coast. Which, being my homeland, is making me EXTREMELY happy!
Love. It’s an amazing scent.
Love love that one
Earlier today I sprayed some Diptyque Oud Palao, now after a bike ride and a shower I smell of Ramon Monegal Ambra di Luna
Wearing Mimosa and Cardamom and drinking yummy chai-spiced iced sparkling lime water infused with extra cardamom and ginger. This will definitely be my drink of the summer, as I find cardamom to be incredibly cooling.
Gosh, who sells that water? Or is it something you made?
I made it, but it’s really easy! I based it on a ginger beer I tried at True Food when we had our meetup at Arielle Shoshana.
Sparkling Water (I like lime) with chai masala spice powder, plus ginger juice, lime juice, extra cardamom powder and stevia. It would probably work well with coconut water if you’re a fan of that. I just happen to enjoy the fun of bubbles! Trader Joe’s ginger beer is actually really great, but I’m trying to avoid sugar. I drink this with a straw since the powder tends to settle at the bottom. Let me know if you attempt it…
Cool cloudy day that called out for Box of Eels!
No perfume on skin, but I ordered some orange blossom absolute and neroli and it is exactly what I have been looking for. Just have to keep reading/ researching how to dilute it to make it “wearable.” Until then, happy to have testing paper filling my office with the scent of summer.
I guess sometimes the simplest solution really is best!
I’ve done the same in the past, dstsauve. I always have some of both on hand, as they fill me with pure joy.
Love reading comments! Quick chime in PSA:
Free Tauer discovery set and shipping with purchase of Une rose chypree, Une rose vermeille or Carillon pour un ange.
There’s also a Special explorer set 3×15 ml for $112
SOTD = No. 5
You smell gorgeous!
Thanks!
Had a spritz of Tokyo Bloom earlier but now Weekend in Normandy, which I really like in the heat. I’m still not back to work and sorry for those of you who are. Five more days of lounging in the sun and reading novels for me, then back at it.
Vanille 44, finally getting around to Morillas decant. It isn’t hot here yet, so I don’t know how I’ll do with the other one I have from him, Mugler Cologne, tomorrow…
I’m wearing Yardley Lily of the Valley today.
And, I’m drinking White Sage & Wild Mint tea.
Morillas #4 has been Eau d’Italie’s “Au Lac”. Sadly whatever charm this exhibits as a spray disappears as soon as it hits the skin. Or to put it briefly: “Au Lac? No Lac!”.
Off to see some of Paris now. After a week of late evenings and nights prepping for a big client meeting, we’ve held it and we’ve survived to fight another week. I am now in Chanel No. 19, using a last 0.5ml of an old decant, which I expect will comfortably outlast the 1.6ml Au Lac sample.
No Lac! That’s hilarious. Enjoy the No. 19.
Enjoy Paris!
Surprisingly, the water-logged lilacs are hanging on to their scented blooms after last night’s storms, and their fragrance in today’s very humid air is enhanced by the heavy white blossoms of the honey-locust trees in my neighborhood, which have just begun to bloom. My SOTD is Annie Oakley Morning Dew. The box says, ” As breathtaking as sunrise at a country cottage, as pure as lilacs drenched in raindrops,” and the website lists the notes as lilac, LOTV, grape and balsam. Not sure about the grape and balsam, but the lilac is lovely and seems to be joined by sweet honeysuckle, not LOTV, which closely resemble the fragrant honey-locust blossoms here. It’s pretty and sweet, not too demanding yet with a nice depth and perfectly suits the day. Annie Oakley is an interesting family-run perfumery worth visiting if you’re ever traveling through the Indiana Amish country.
Wow, the website has some cute things, especially under “Eclectic Remedies” – I like the essential oil sampler.
Yes, those are very nice and, if you have a horse, there are even horse-training aids. The tour is worthwhile and you learn the history of the business. Early on, as a young single mom, she started crafting (I believe) jewelry that she used to sell at Western-related events. She started experimenting with fragrance and created her first, Annie, and named that and her new perfume company, Annie Oakley. She remarried and her husband and family all became involved in her business, which is tucked very modestly into the Indiana countryside.
Sounds wonderful!
Wearing Matin d’Orage in the heat and loving it. Ah, Summer!
Gorgeous.
Enjoy!
SOTD is D&G Dolce. I needed a light, inoffensive palate-cleanser today after spritzing myself with Hermes Eau des Merveilles in Sephora yesterday. Did not work for me at all. Less than 20 minutes later, I was trying to scrub it off in Ulta and ended up covering it up with White Linen.
Don’t you risk being banned from NST for not liking EdM? Time out, at least.
Oops than I’m banned too. Not my thing. And true confessions: there is no Hermes that I love. ????
I think they just don’t work on my skin. 24 Fauborg and Rouge may work for me, but I’ve yet to sniff them. I genuinely don’t like the ‘jardin’ ones, though; I hate aquatic scents.
Well, EdM is not my thing either. It’s too sulphuric, or something. I do like the L’Ambre, however, so I’m hoping I can skip detention 😉
Have you tried Terre d’ Hermes Eau Fraiche?
I don’t think so and will seek it out. I do have some of the hermessences in the 15ml and I like them fine. Just not love, or consistent love. I think the Iris is my favorite, although the Osmanthus is ️nice too. I wear them at night as they grate after too long. Weird, huh?
I don’t like it either, so the three of us can go together. I gave my bottle away to a friend’s daughter a few weeks ago.
Hey, with 3 people we can consider it a club!
I’m the forth. In my head we are like “The Breakfast Club” now.
Waaah, Kanuka put me in a timeout! ???? I really like the top notes, but then it went all wonky on me.
EdM always reminds me of old-style cloth sticking plasters/band aids…so I am in the sin bin too!
Yep, I’m in trouble too. I got a big “Meh” when I tried EdM.
I do not particularly like EdM too, it is way too peppery for me
Too peppery, “too sulphuric or something” (as Elisa P said)–yes, all of that. I really tried to be a dutiful perfumista and nail down specifically what I didn’t like but kept recoiling every time I sniffed. Oh well.
Don’t apologize, perhaps salty sea notes just don’t work in the Arizona desert (I think that’s where you are?). I happen to love Eau des Merveilles but I don’t like some fragrances that most NST’ers love (here’s looking at you, Chanel No. 5, in any iteration). I don’t really know why, I just don’t like it, period, and don’t feel I need to in order to be a ‘perfumista.’ Your only fragrance ‘duty’ is to enjoy the scent you wear, no further explanation needed!
Ha, yes, maybe desert babies like me are allergic to the sea! I’m OK with not ultimately liking EdM. I was just surprised that it went from good to bad and then disappointed I couldn’t get a more empirical analysis of my dislike. (I’m with you in the ‘no’ camp on No. 5. Tho, I mostly like it but just can’t love the aldehyde overdose after a while.)
PS: How was your baseball game yesterday? We just got swept. Man, if the Pirates keep pitching at batters’ heads, some other team is going to decide enough is enough, and s–t’s going to get real for them. It won’t be pretty.
I love the idea and three or four iterations of salty sea notes – just not this one!☺️
Really, you are allowed to dislike EdM. You just aren’t allowed to rag on Bob Dylan.
Whew, what a relief! …So is this a good time to mention that Prada Infusion d’Iris does the same thing to me (starts out beautiful and then fairly quickly turns into a scrubber)?? ????
Well, I’m with you on this one; I don’t like it at all either!
Ha, don’t push me 😉
????
Floris A rose for – it feels beautiful and dramatic as ever and yet very wearable.
Ooooh can you tell me about that one?? They don’t send samples of that one, and I’m super-curious!
It’s not summery here at all but cloudy and cool. I’m staying with cozy scents until it warms up. Today I’m wearing Ambre Precieux, not a Morillas, but tomorrow will be one of my desert island scents which he created. When it was discontinued I bought a bunch so now I have enough to last a good long while.
So yesterday I wore Poison Girl. I then went into town and layered Dior Homme and Agent Provocateur L’agent ( as one does ) then …this is where it gets weird…I tried on a fake leopard skin coat…and then I realised that the sales assistant was wearing Poison Girl. The thing is, I thought PG smelled ok on me but terrible on her and in my dystopian perfume confusion I accidently bought the coat, thinking I looked like Kate Moss.
Does anyone remember Bet Lynch from Coronation St? Say no more.
And this happened in your waking life? That’s fantastic! And I’m sure the leopard coat and PG combo is fabulous in you.
Kanuka, I can’t offer an opinion about the Kate Moss thing, but I’m sure of this: you would never look like Bet Lynch, not even if you and a team of stylists worked at it with both hands for a week! I bet you look utterly gorgeous. And warm. Warm is good, I think, as my thin northern blood struggles to adjust to mornings at 12 and highs of 18….
Hahaha, tricky…
This is one great story, I’m sorry Kanuka, but it made me laugh out loud. It is such a random chain of events.
I’ve never even had the courage to try a leopard coat, let alone buy one.
I bet you look and smell fabulous!
Oh gosh, I’d love to go shopping with you. This sounds like a hoot!
I recently found myself inexplicably drawn to an animal print purse on eBay until I had the thought that I would probably resemble Peg Bundy and not Audrey Hepburn. However, I’m not sure I care;) Your coat sounds fantastic!
This is the best post I’ve read online in some time…brilliant. 🙂
A) I’m sure your instincts were right, and the Pioson Girl smelled fine on you. B) Rock that coat, girl!
Kanuka, the coat sounds awesome! But how you ended up with it is a truly surreal tale.
Seriously, I have this weird brain thing that I have never read about in a magazine…in my head I look like Debra Harry circa Heart of Glass (not having a mirror at home helps), and even when I’m looking at my 5’4″ , 150lb/ 70kg reflection (which I somehow imagine is all muscle) I still don’t see myself. Is that like visual anosmia? I definitely have visual anosmia….except sometimes. And that’s a shame, cause then I’m like whoaaaahhhhhhh, what???!!!!
SOTD = Ninfeo Mio — first time this summer, on a sultry day. Thinking I need to follow the lead of some other NSTers and pop the bottle into the fridge.
Perfect, I should be wearing that too.
I’m wearing Oryza Le Grand (sp?) Vetiver Royal Bourbon. It’s pretty obviously masculine but I kinda like it. At first I felt like it smelled like something my dad would wear, but it’s growing on me. The minty aspects of it could be kind of cooling in the summer, without smelling like toothpaste.
I’m also drinking a cup of Kusmi Anastasia and being frustrated with a project at work.
And wouldn’t you know it, Jessica reviewed a perfume from the brand I’m wearing today, so now I know how to spell it. It’s Oriza L. Legrand.
I’m hoping this alignment means you are soon to find your dream home! I’ve also just sampled the brand for the first time and am vaguely obsessed with Chypre Mousse.
I want to try that one too. The reviews seem to be split in either direction.
Lol from your keyboard to the ears of all the dieties!
I think I have a (dabber) sample of this. It was interesting enough for me to request it!
SOTD L’Ombre Dans L’eau.
It seems like so long since I last commented, but in reality it’s been no more than a couple weeks. I’ve had a truly awful few weeks. My step mum died, her funeral was on my birthday earlier in the week, so now I am going to have my birthday on Saturday instead, and I am going to wear vintage Yvresse and do something lovely with my family.
I’m really feeling better than I have in ages today, the sun has been shining, my kids are happy and healthy, I have wonderful friends, a supportive and kind husband, really a lot to be grateful for.
I had such a fun day out on Saturday with the lovely SophieC, such fun to be able to share this eccentric and multi faceted hobby with a like minded soul, it was really just what I needed to take my mind off all the horrible and sad stuff.
I’m also so happy to be part of this lovely and interesting community. You’re all such a great bunch.
I’m sorry to hear about your hard times.
I hope you will enjoy the celebration of your birthday and may the sun continue to shine on you!
Thanks Gi!
So sorry to hear about your step mother. I’m hoping you continue to find comfort in all the good things in your life. Nice to see you back!
Thanks, it’s really nice to be back.
Condolences on the death of your step mum, mayfly, and may you enjoy a wonderful belated birthday celebration.
So sorry for your loss, but love how you’ve managed to find your joy in spite of a rough week!
I am very sorry for your loss. Glad you have a good support system and a wonderful smelling perfume to wear.
Very sorry for your loss. Glad you’re feeling a bit better and great to see you back.
Condolences on the loss of your stepmum, mayfly. Have yourself a wonderful birthday celebration Saturday–enjoy the heck out of it!
Mayfly–
Please accept my condolences on your step-mother’s passing.
I am so sorry <3 My condolences.
Sorry about your stepmother, Mayfly. Go make merry, and maybe even take responsibility for exercising her share of happiness, too. Can’t let it go to waste, after all.
So sorry, and hope your rescheduled birthday is wonderful!
My condolences on your loss. Take all the time you need to grieve, but do take some precious moments to celebrate yourself and all the good in your life. Happy Birthday!
So good to see you here! I thought of you last Tuesday but forgot to send you a mail. Now I am glad I can do it Saturday. And you smell lovely.
So sorry for your loss, mayfly. I’m glad you have a good support system.
Now that I did Morillas and Kenzo flower died on me, I proceeded to spray myself with Bond-T from Sammarco….yum! I swear it smells like a box of yummiest tobacco, at least from some distance. With nose to skin, it smells like dried plants on the seashore I was taken to as a kid.
I’m saving my little drop of Palissandre d’Or for this evening, and going with Ormond Jayne’s Orris Noir this morning. I’m interviewing job applicants today and want to be able to bask in my perfume at any difficult moments.
Accidentally layered Fou d’Absinthe over Bronze Goddess body cream. Not bad. 93 degrees earlier today. Have a nice evening, everyone.
