Welcome to 2016! Our community project for today: wear the perfume that will bring you luck, health and prosperity in 2016.
What fragrance did you pick? And was it an easy choice, or did you have to give it some serious thought?
As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm starting the year with some warm weather beauty — Ormonde Jayne Frangipani. It was literally the first perfume that popped into my head weeks ago when I added this project to the list.
Reminder: next week on 1/8 we're doing Woodfest Friday. Wear something woody — but no oud, because we already did oud! And don't forget, the damage poll is coming up next Tuesday!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Happy New Year everyone! I’m wearing Misia, just because it feels so right that it can’t possibly bring me BAD luck!
As I mentioned yesterday, I made a list of top 2015 perfumes mentioned in 11 blogs. Some of the perfumes were listed under “best mainstream” or “best natural”, etc. I lumped them together in one list. The number after the name is how many times it was cited. I stopped at 3 mentions. Here it is for your perusal.
Papillon Perfumery Salome 9
Neela Vermeire Pichola 9
Chanel Misia 7
Amouage Sunshine (man and woman, I didn’t make a distinction) 7
Azzedine Alaia Alaia Paris 6
Aftelier Vanilla Smoke 6
Penhaligon’s Ostara 6
Bulgari Eau Parfumee au The Bleu 5
Arquiste Nanban 5
Slumberhouse Kiste 5
Naomi Goodsir Iris Cendre 5
Frederic Malle Cologne Indelible 5
Hermes Le Jardin de Monsieur Li 4
Unum Lavs 4
Hiram Green Voyage 3
Maison Ciel de Gum 3
Dior Feve Delicieuse 3
Olfactive Studio Panorama 3
Thanks for taking the time to make this list. Unfortunately, for me, I have not smelled any of them except au the Blue. I’m very interested in the Dior.
You took some time to prepare this Suzy, well done!
Seems like my favorites were a little bit different than those of other bloggers.
You are awesome, thanks so much for posting this!
I’ve only heard of three of these! I guess I better get it together this year. Thanks for putting this list together.
Nice list and I admire your discipline to make it! I wish I possessed that kind of focus. Salome and Ciel de Gum are 2 I’m itching to try.
Thank you for this list of temptations. I hope the project was fun for you.
It was fun! And it satisfied my curiosity. I’m happy to share.
Happy New Year, Suzy! Wishing you fragrant days ahead.
Oh if only I had waited a bit longer I could have copied your list rather than trawling through them myself! 😉 lol.
I’m glad someone else does this too though. I write them in my ‘perfume’ notebooks so when I make a decant/sample order I dont have to try to remember what I wanted to try. I’m looking forward to trying Nanban and Salome.
We are in a mindmeld–me three for the trawling, and Nanban and Salome are the two I’m really hoping to get a chance to try! (I admit I have tried 10 of the 18 on this master list, with not yet one that I felt a need to buy. Altho a few I wouldn’t mind spending more time with–hi Iris Cendré!)
Oh and I definitely want to try Iris Cendré. I’m such a victim of FOMO.. lol
I just went and looked up the meaning of FOMO. Is that an example of FOMO?
I looked up FOMO too! I love it! I have definitely succumbed to this waaaay too often.
Fear of Missing Out 🙂 it must be an epidemic to have its own abbreviation.
Thank you for the list!
I have totally absconded with your list! This is just great and I haven’t sniffed a single one. As soon as my no buy is over, I am going on a sample splurge ????
Love this! Thank you so much!
I was doing a list like this in my head as I reviewed the various lists out there. Vanilla Smoke and Pichola are my top two to try, and Aftelier Bergamoss too.
This is so cool, SuzyQ! I have a few on the list I look forward to trying: Ciel de Gum, Alaia Paris and Au The Bleu.
I actually own 8 of these but want to try Ciel de Gum and Ostara.
Thanks for this list! The only three I’ve tried (The Bleu, Monsieur Li and Sunshine) I have felt very meh about, so I will stick to the top of the list! Salome and PIchola are so universally acclaimed I gotta believe they are knockouts….
Thank you, love the list!
Thank you for the list, Suzy Q! While reading everybody’s “bests” I had a feeling that I haven’t tried any of the perfumes. Now I know that I tried at least one third – which isn’t bad, I think.
Very interesting!
Thanks for the information.
You’re amazing for making this list. Thanks so much for sharing!
Happy New 2016!
I decided to wear Prada Infusion d’Homme today as in last couple of years I always decided to start a year in one of my Pradas, so here it is again this year 🙂
I almost wore Infusion d’Iris absolue. Prada perfumes have been a staple in my collection as well. I’m looking forward to sampling their new Les Infusions collection. Happy new year, Lucas.
Suzy, I wore Infusion d’Iris Absolue for New Year’s Eve last night 🙂
That’s a nice tradition! Wear it in good health.
Thank you and all the best to you and NST for 2016
I love your Prada tradition, Lucas!
Thanks sweetie
Not to sound like a cliche, but I thought both the name & spirit of my choice were a propos: my bargain estate find of last year, vintage Joy edt. Just a smidgen, but it’s in perfect condition, and does make me think of luck, prosperity & good health. It did take some thought to arrive at this choice. Happy New Year, everyone!
I considered Joy as well (and Diorissimo) but decided to go with my first gut choice. You smell perfect!
Great choice, for great reasons!
I almost went the vintage Joy route, myself!
A beautiful scent and decision. Happy New Year!
House twins with Joy’s little sister spinoff flanker EnJoy -a pretty lightly peppered rose bouquet.
Robin, this project is causing me anxiety!:) I don’t know that I can put the pressure on any of my bottles that I truly love, and don’t want to waste it on something that I don’t. I’m going with Dior Addict ( current version ) to inspire me to make the effort and get the original. which will require a little bit of wealth and luck. does that count?
Ah, but anxiety is just what you don’t need in the New Year! Whatever you pick, wear it with confidence and don’t worry about it 🙂
Happy New Year! I couldn’t do today’s project, but I wanted to wear Volutes. After looking around a bit I think I gave that sample away, so I am wearing Mona di Orio Vanille instead. So far it’s not working for me the way I remember. Oh well, sometimes January 1st is just regular.
LOL — so, so true, and I do think the pressure to make a day “special” is so much the source of so many people’s holiday stress. So go with the regular!
Happy new year!
I’m wearing Jo Malones Tudor rose and amber – and it is very close to Lush Rose jam scentwise. A jammy and rather deep rose with a nice amber base. Not as fleeting as the usual Jo Malones. I like it very much – and hope it will bring me good luck for 2016.
Oh, I will have to try it again then! I think I only smelled it very quickly on a blotter. (And I am awaiting my shipment of 2016’s Rose Jam stash)
Enjoy your stash!!!
I spent two hours trying to score a Rose Jam stash of my own but the website kept crashing (I even put multiple bottles in my cart hours before the sale started). By the time the site finally worked, Rose Jam was all sold out. We’ll see if I can stretch my last 5ish ounces through the rest of the year.
It was a real pain to buy it…hope next year Lush does a better job keeping the site operational.
Oh, no! It has really grown even more popular. Last year the BOGO sale for Rose Jam lasted much longer.
The Pearl massage bar is another option for that amazing scent. I like it very much.
The Rose Argan body conditioner is also a good option. I actually mix it with my regular body lotion after shower instead of using it in-shower. Scent is lovely and lasts…
Rose Jam had been in and out of stock several times since the sale began. As I post this, I see that the 100 ml bottles are in stock again along with Lord of Misrule shower cream which is my personal favorite.
Thank you for the tip!!!!!
I love how we’re all wearing perfumes that coordinate with Rose Jam these days 🙂 Tis the season!
Adding another voice to the must try list! My sister lives near a Lush and Rose Jam has become my traditional Xmas present from her. You’d think that with how popular it is, Lush would just give in and make it available year round!
Well, 2015 was a bit of a bust for me and I’m glad to see it go. Last August, just when I was getting ready to tell you all that I was expecting baby #2, I miscarried. That was my third loss. In many ways it was better than the two before I had my son, because I wasn’t wondering if I would ever have a traditional family; And in some ways it was worse – I was so busy with baby Jack that I never had time for a proper meltdown and the grieving process has taken forever.
…So SOTD is Jo Malone Orange Blossom. I tore the house apart looking to take JM Grapefruit with me to the hospital when I had Jack in 2014, but I couldn’t find it and had to take OB instead. It was the only scent I had to wear for the entire six days I was there. For me it signifies hope, optimism, love, family, and infinite happiness, which is what I want in the new year.
Happy New Year everyone!
Hugs to you, Lucy. That sounds extremely tough. I love the story behind your choice-and white flowers do feel optimistic. Wishing you continued healing!
Thank you. It’s going to be a long process, but the clean slate of the new year has helped to move it along.
I am sorry for your loss and hope 2016 brings you the fulfillment of your wishes!
Thank you
I am familiar with that sorrow and hope that the new year brings brighter skies.
Thank you. I’m sorry for you too – I wish no one ever had to go through this.
I’m terribly sorry to hear this, Lucy. I too know something of the pain and grief of this sort of loss. I have no words to say, but you have my thoughts and wishes that all manner of everything will be right for you in 2016.
Thank you, your good wishes are so sweet. I’m sorry that you’ve been through this too, but it is nice to feel understood.
Sending you a big hug, Lucy. I’m sorry for your loss and I hope that the coming year will bring you all that you’re wishing for.
Thank you. Hugs are always appreciated. 🙂
You’ve been so chipper I would never have guessed. NST is certainly a soft place to land. And with the strength you’ve built you should go roaring into the new year. 🙂
Chipper? Thank you, that might be the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. I am a pessimist by nature and make a conscious effort every day not to let it show. It’s getting better, but still a struggle.
…and you’re right about the strength. I’m ready to take over the world in 2016.
I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope 2016 is full of all the hope, optimism, love, family, and infinite happiness that Orange Blossom foreshadows.
Thank you. When I read the words in your post I realized that they really should be standards for everyone, every year. So, I wish the same to you and your loved ones as well. 🙂
So sorry for your losses, Lucy! I remember the Baby Jack watch and your joy. Wishing you fulfillment in 2016!
The Baby Jack watch was the best time of my life. And I remember that you were so supportive. You were one of the first people to congratulate me when he was born, even before most of our family. 🙂
Thank you for the good wishes. We are doing everything we can to bring you another baby watch.
Sending you hugs and all possible best wishes in the new year, Suzy, and I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. I’ve experienced something similar, and hope you don’t feel alone. And here’s to a new year, a fresh start, and all the fresh and heady optimism that orange blossom brings!
I’m sorry you’ve gone through this too, but I appreciate you sharing. It is helpful to hear that I’m not alone, that there’s not something wrong with me physically,…but I hate that anyone else has had to experience this because, well, it just sucks.
Thank you for the kind words. I’m very much looking forward to 2016 and wish you a good year too,
Lucy, I am sorry for your loss…it happened to me years ago and it is a sad emptiness that no one realizes unless it has happened to them.
Hang in there and keep on trying!
Thank you. I’m sorry you’ve been there too. I asked my doctor how many more times I could handle going through this. He said, “Physically? About a dozen. But you’re going to need a good Therapist if we get anywhere near that number.”
Last time, I got pregnant with Jack less than two months after the miscarriage, so a lot of the sting was lessened. This time we aren’t having so much luck. Nonetheless, we haven’t given up. I hope to report some really good news in a few months.
So hope that 2016 is better for you.
Thank you, Robin. I’ve been so busy with Jack that I’ve fallen way behind on reading this blog and my participation has been sporadic. But there were many restless nights last fall where your site gave me the escape I needed. What may seem like a fun little perfume website to some is a welcoming community of friends and a place to embrace and develop a hobby to me. You provide this stay-at-home-mom with something other than diapers and Curious George. Thank you for keeping it going.
And no surprise I started this site when I was home with a young child!
I honestly don’t know how you found the time. He must be very independent.
Oh, sweetie. Wishing 2016 will be a happy, fun, lighthearted year for you.
Thank you. I wish you a great year too.
I wish you all the best in 2016, including joy and healing.
Thank you. It’s already beating the pants off of 2015.
Happy 2016 to you too.
Sorry for your loss.
Thank you, Poodle.
Sorry for your loss! I hope 2016 is a great year for you and your family!
Thank you, Mariann. Happy 2016 to you too!
I wish you a much happier 2016 than your 2015 was.
Thank you. I’m off to a good, mentally healthy start. Talking about it here has helped. So many of my IRL friends and family don’t know what to say, so they’ve avoided talking to me about it. These wonderful messages from NSTers have helped me to face my sadness, cry real tears, and start to heal. I’m making more progress in the two days of 2016 than I did in the last four months.
Happy 2016 to you too, Undina!
I am starting out the year in Mona di Orio. Today is the first day of my 2016 project to wear every single bottle in my collection once. Since I suspect I have about 700 bottles, this means 2 per day.
Today’s scents will be MdO Oud and Odori Zafferano. Whee!
your collection must be amazing!
Stay tuned for a future NST post with photos of my collection – I am working on it with Angela. 🙂
Oh goodie – I love those! Thanks for doing it!
Me too!
Wow! What a cool project. Please keep us posted.
Hmmm. Good idea Cazaubon. I might take some inspiration from your fabulous mission and try to make it a mini-project too. I have over 400 bottles and some never get worn so it’s a great idea to make a conscious effort to.
Lucky for me I started the new year with 5 so I’m on my way! 😉
Looking forward to reading what you choose.
???? wow! I am trying to visualize that many bottles in my head and failing miserably. Color me impressed!
Wow! My collection PALES by comparison! Looking forward to reading your SOTDs (x2) and your project with Angela!
Now that’s a resolution!
Excited for Angela’s post on your collection.
Great idea Cazaubo…I have at least that many (I think) though I’ve never actually counted them but I should do the same thing.
Wow, what a fun project!
What a great idea!
A perfume that will bring you luck, health and prosperity in 2016 is a tall order!
My first thought was DSH Scent of Hope, a bespoke recreation of the legendary Iris Gris. It’s a beautiful perfume, and 30% of the sales are donated to Sense of Security, a Denver-based breast cancer organization that helps those undergoing treatment with their medical and living expenses. But winter is not its season so I probably won’t actually wear it today.
Next thought was one of La Via del Profumo’s Scents of Soul, such as Sharif or Mecca Balsam. I think these natural ingredients connect to a deeper level of awareness, and humans have used them to send messages to and seek favor from the gods for millennia.
Another thought was to wear a fabulous vintage blind-buy for all the luck involved in discovering and winning one of these rare treasures that has survived the decades to end up in my grateful hands.
Meanwhile, my skin still smells deliciously of rose and plum from the BK Liaisons Dangereuses that I wore last night, so I’m in no hurry to decide. 🙂 Wishing everyone the best and most fragrant 2016!
I vote for a vintage blind buy!
That idea is sort of irresistable – and I don’t wear them often enough, either.
What was the blind buy, if I may ask?
Well, I would have had to pick one. 🙂 Most vintage perfumes are blind buys, effectively, either because I’ve never smelled the perfume before and it’s impossible to find samples, or because of successive reformulations or changes in the perfume due to age or storage conditions. There is always an element of anxiety and surprise, as well as delight, in these acquisitions.
All great possibilities and no matter what you choose, it’s the thought that counts 🙂
Yes, simply setting an intention for the year is useful! Have a great 2016, perthgirl!
Another vote for the vintage! I’d want that kind of luck to last me the whole year through!
Happy New Year nozknoz !
You are so thoughtful in your fragrance selection.
I just pick what smells good to me on a particular day.
I enjoy reading your posts. 🙂
I always enjoy your posts, too, Bear – wishing you all the best for 2016!
Happy New Year, everyone! My SOTD is L’Heure Bleue parfum from my little vintage stash. I’ve worn L’HB for at least 30 years and it has seen me through thick and thin. Lately Box of Eels has given it a little competition, but there is really no contest, and no other contenders for a perfume that will bring luck, health and prosperity so my choice was easy.
Also, the dog had an ultrasound yesterday and there’s no obstruction, so we are celebrating that today, too.
That is great news Foxbins. It’s a good sign that 2016 is beginning with good news.
T-Rex and I are so happy to hear the good news about your dog! Hopefully the poor thing is well on the road to recovery 🙂
What a relief! Good news, indeed.
Yay for good news from the vet. One of the very best types of good news 🙂
So glad to hear this! Wishing him a speedy and complete recovery!
Great news! You must be so relieved!
Yay! So happy to hear that.
Still camped out in our Long Island Hotel but we’ll be going home to clean up the mess left in our apt after some emergency work was done yesterday.
Nothing fitting in my sample stash in my bag but while we were perusing the local strip mall yesterday looking for lunch, I found a perfume discount outlet and got a bottle of Fracas shower cream. Looking forward to using that after a quick swim in the indoor pool in a bit(thinking it’ll make a nice shampoo, too!)
Funny how my aversion to white flowers is disappearing, and I’m now finding them uplifting and optimistic. Happy New Year, everyone!
You make it sound like an adventure rather than an inconvenience. Might as well enjoy it and I hope your apt is put back in order with minimal effort!
the Fracas shower cream is very nice–enjoy!
I’m a fan of it too!
White flowers are my toughest challenge, so you give me hope. Good luck with the apartment issues.
Thanks, Siciliana! And the scent that lingers from the shower cream is just enough Fracas for me 😉 Bathing in it feels quite luxurious. Recommended.
Francas is a great way to start the new year!
Your ability to make lemonade from lemons will definitely make your 2016 great. And enjoy the white flowers, they can be lovely.
I’ve found white florals sneaking up on me lately too. I’ve added a little fragrant shower gel to my shampoo before, your hair is going to smell amazing!
I’m wearing Tauer Sotto la Luna Tuberose today, for a few reasons: 1) I got the sample in a discovery kit during the advent calendar this year, when I was lucky enough to be chosen, so it symbolizes luck to me (and I will need a lot of that in 2016); 2) I never have really liked tuberose that much, but I really like this one, so it represents a step outside my comfort zone (something that 2015-16 is all about for me, fortunately or unfortunately); and 3) I am on a vacation and only brought the discovery kit and a decant of Jubilation 25 (for last night), so it had to be either a Tauer or Jubilation. 🙂
Happy new year — health and happiness to everyone!
Nice selection and congrats on the win! Tauer’s Sotto la Luna Gardenia was my gateway white floral. I smelled the tuberose on paper recently and liked it as well. Part of the fun of sampling is finding that “one” that makes me change my mind about a note or genre I was sure I didn’t like.
I tested SlLT last time I made a pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Scented Wrists (The Perfume Shoppe, to the unanointed), and it seemed wispy compared to his other offerings, although admitedly, I only sniffed it on a cotton ball. Do you find it has enough body?
Had a vague recollection of the term “sotto voce” meaning spoken or sung in an “under breath”, softly or to one’s self. If this is a hint of tuberose, it would explain both the name and why its considered a gateway. (Haven’t tried it myself. :))
Uh, besides “under the moon.” Duh.
It lasts well on me.
I find it has staying power on me, too. The Perfume Shoppe — you mean in Vancouver? My favourite shop when I’m at home (which I’m not, for a year…no real replacement in my neck of Germany, sadly)!
Ack. I meant the Perfume House, here in good ol’ Portland, OR.
But yes, The Perfume Shoppe is a lovely place, too! (I’ve had the pleasure of sniffing with some fumie friends when visiting up north!)
For a brief moment I wondered how silt could seem wispy.
Happy New Year!!
Thank you to everyone in the NST community for your eloquent and thoughtful posts. I’m a relatively new perfumista and not a writer. I’ve had some challenges over the last few months which have limited my activities. Things are improving, thankfully. Enjoying my fragrances and learning so much from all of you has been uplifting.
…Hiram Green Voyage is SOTD. The year may take a few directions, but I hope will ultimately be smooth and comfortable.
Well best of luck in 2016! In addition to NST being a remarkable community, I think its a testament to the healing power of scent in general that so many of us are drawn here while in the midst of trials. Kind community + healing fragrances make NST what it is. Thanks, Robin. 🙂
Seconding that!
Well said, and you smell great too!
Welcome to NST, Wendysue! Hiram Green Voyage is perfect as it does take different directions once worn!
Welcome, Wendysue! Glad to see you here!
Welcome!
Very good morning, all. I’m having one of Those Nights: can’t shift my brain to neutral, so I’ve had only about two hours of sleep. At least holidays mean I can nap deliciously this afternoon if I need to. A perfume for health and good fortune? I think I’ll choose 31 Rue Cambon, which I bought in Paris at the place itself. It is full of memories for me, and is a scent I often choose for both solitary introspection and working in close groups. I’ll be doing quite a bit of both in 2016 as I make sure everything is in order in my department for my on-coming retirement. I can’t find the words to say how much I’m looking forward to the next stage of my life–I’ll be leaving Auckland and returning to the heartlands, though not to my home, and whatever I end up doing next, even if it’s only growing potatoes and parsley, I’ll be doing it to my own rhythm and timetable, and that is bound to contribute to health and prosperity as well.
I find unearthing a crop of potatoes rather exciting actually. It’s such a simple joy and appreciation of nature. It’s like look! Another one! Look how big this one is! and another one! and another! Ooh so many little potatoes from just one potato! Lol 😉
Wonderful!
It’s been a while for me– I’ve been in Auckland since 2001–but potato excitement is definitely in my future!
Like this thought. So true.
I am currently wearing the remnants of La Danza delle Libellule from bedtime last night. I’ve been wanting to try this scent for a while as I’ve seen it mentioned several times this year. I haven’t done a side by side comparison but the dry down reminds me a bit of Tihota. (Of course, I could be completely wrong!).
After I finish my housework today, I plan to wear Equistrius because it’s like a big ole’ pillowy iris balloon. Probably not the most appropriate choice for January in RI but I find it uplifting. Wishing a happy, healthy and prosperous new year for one and all.
Not sure how this ended up here. Apologies Waterdragon and Happy New Year!
Absolutely no problem. Always happy to chat about everything! You put into my mind, in any case, mthst I need to add Equistrius to my “Try & Buy” list.
???? It must be wonderful feeling to be counting down to retirement. I hope that your final months at work are a breeze.
It is wonderful. I’m not exactly retiring covered in honours –I was never interested in A Career, so my working life has been determined by a series of haphazard, idiosyncratic decisions that have led to lots of fun, on the whole. I think I can look back and say that at least I did no egregious harm.
“Big ole pillowy iris balloon” goes on the sample list…
IMO, Equistrius is not a big scent but the iris note, while always present, becomes more prominent as the scent dries down. More petal than root to my nose. Very fem and pretty.
To paraphrase the Irish Spring ad “Fem but I like it too”. LOL 😉
Although I described it as fem, I am sure that it would smell great on a Bear too! ???? Happy New Year!
I retired in May 2015. Wishing you a happy and relaxing retirement!
I have about 18 months to go — maybe only 12; perhaps (horrors!) 24. This year is the busy “getting tidy” year: all curriculum changes and development have to be sorted out by May so as to be published in the 2017 Calendar. I’m determined to leave everything tidy for my successor, at least according to my vision and standards. After May, work should be a rather gentle pootle, but it probably won’t be: students are never predictable. My uncertainty about a finish date should be settled in a few weeks, when I see my HoS for my performance review, which, these days, is merely a chat about this’n’that– he, like me, is trying to work out his own exit strategy.
Love 31 Rue Cambon! It’s my go-to professional scent, though…which I’m trying hard not to think about, since my professional life is in serious flux right now. 😉 Your next stage sounds fantastic — jealous!
Hope your work life settles the way you want it!
Wonderful choice! Much to look forward to, all the best to you this year.
Good luck Waterdragon! My mom said that the two years before she retired were the hardest, since she was mentally checked out, and trying to leave stuff in good shape for the next person was a challenge.
Everyone has such lovely, thoughtful responses today.
I’m excited about 2016, and the energy that promises new directions and opportunites and a blossoming of all the seeds planted over the last few years.
I actually forgot about the challenge today, but having read Cazaubon’s great idea I’m going to take inspiration and offer my 5 wearings of today to a year of options and unlimited possibilities.
First my wrists hosted a rose-off with my 2 rose GWP’s- MFK A la Rose and AdP Rosa Nobile. They’re both of the pretty light pink rose variety, rather similar, with the AdP skewing slightly richer and the MFK slightly brighter.
Post shower I wanted to try some rarely worns again to see how I feel about them in hot weather. All HdP. Tubereuse 1&3, and whatever year Jules Verne is. I adore Jules because it smells like the discontinued divine Gucci Envy for Men. T1 Capricieuse I can live without but T3 Animalic is really sexy in the heat. Been sniffing my arm all night 🙂
Fabulous! Happy 2016, perthgirl!
What a fun idea! Always good when you keep sniffing your arm.
I chose to wear one of my favorite scents that I bought in 2015, Jour d’Hermes Absolu. One of my resolutions for this year is to invest in full bottles of scents that I know that I love. That means Jour and Mitsouko edt. I was torn between the two this morning because I fell in love with both in 2015. I also have a resolution not to buy one more mini until I’ve worn each of my collection at least once. I am a little addicted to buying minis and coffrets and discovery sets, and then not wearing them.
I find I neglect minis and coffrets too as I hate the idea of running out so I hoard them. Silly I know, as I could just buy a fb of the ones I use up.
Oh yes, I’m a member of that club too! I (smugly) never knew I had any hoarding tendencies until my Sample Sea turned into a gyre. I finally realized that not only do I not want to run out, I don’t even want to sniff for fear I’ll want more. Apparently I’ve been channeling a lot of my insanity into a very narrow tunnel. 😉
Lol!!
Happy 2016!!
I’m wearing Chanel Coco. Oh, how I love this perfume. It’s been there for me in so many situations: ultimate nighttime scent , beautiful daytime scent (if applied lightly), times when I need a warm hug, etc.
Coco was the scent I went to this morning when I was thinking how to start this new year !
May everyone have a peaceful , prosperous and fun new year !
I really think Coco is one of the best perfumes in existence, and how wonderful to have it part of your memories and future. All the best for 2016, Barqs!
Such a beautiful scent.
My SoTD is Lyric Woman. I just received my Amouage sampler from Luckyscent, and Lyric is the one I’ve been most looking forward to trying. After an initial blotter sniff of half of the 12 samples, it is also the one that had the most immediate impact. I loved it so much I almost didn’t want to wear it. But then I decided that 2016 is going to be the year I step into myself and into life with complete abandon. No more best for last. I’m all in. So…I’m wearing Lyric, and it’s now my “good luck/live with abandon” scent for the year.
Happy New Year everyone!
What a great attitude lizbee!
I had the same reaction to Lyric too when I first tried it, and it’s still my #1.
❤️I’m spritzing more as we speak. It’s just so darn good!
I think fragrance is such a great way to practice treating ourselves and living life with delight!
I get a little annoyed at the sales tactics aimed at folks to “treat themselves because they’ve earned it.” We ALL benefit from beauty and pleasure for their own sakes, without justification. Revel in it!
Yes, beauty and pleasure without justification. Perfectly said.
Lyric is a great choice for this poll! Happy 2016!
The way I feel this morning, it might be my answer to *every* poll, no matter the question. Scent of the Day? Lyric. Favorite 80s cover band? Lyric. Favorite steakhouse? Lyric. ???? Hehe.
😀 😀
That’s a steakhouse I would go to!
Good for you. Enjoy every second of it.
Complete abandon!! Yes, I’m with you! Does this mean I can eat dessert first? :/
Yes, floragal! Yessssss!
Hi everyone and Happy New Year! It’s been ages since I commented here and I’ve really missed it. I’m happy to be back and I love being part of this community so the lurking is officially over!
This last year was tough for me, as I continued to grieve over the deaths of my parents in late 2014. My only sibling bowed out when the going got tough, and I felt like I had suddenly lost my whole nuclear family in a period of six weeks. Simply put, it was stunning. I know that many of you here on NST have had some difficulties with various losses that you have shared here, and I thank you for doing so.
Whew, okay and on to the community project! True to my past performance, I will cheat! Well, kinda…
So, I fell in love with Iris Nazarena in November and coveted not only the fragrance but the freakin’ bottle too! I. WANTED. IT. I could afford it (grudgingly) but my goodness I did not want that amount of any perfume ever ever again. What to do? After infinite dithering I finally bought a 5ml decant and I can always admire the bottle from afar. That will definitely improve my prosperity and I will keep the decant front and center to remind me that restraint can be mentally healthy for me, and that luck is always available but seldom recognized. Or something like that. Cuz honestly, now I’m wondering what luck actually is … but I guess it’s okay to make it up as we go along. I consider myself lucky to have figured anything out at all.
The cheating part is that I will also include Caron’s Fleurs de Rocaille. This was my first “grown-up” perfume which I chose with my mom almost fifty years ago. This perfume represents the wealth of remembering the past and honoring it, and having it in my collection will always make me smile and what could be healthier? For the luck part, see above. Plus the bottle of the vintage parfum is a lot cuter than my decant and makes a better lucky charm in terms of aesthetics.
So that basically covers everything but the practical issue of wearing these two today. I’m all for experimenting and layering but I can assure you that that can’t happen in this instance. I will wear Fleurs de Rocaille for the day to represent the past, and Iris Nazarena this evening to move forward into the future.
Good to hear from you again, Holly! Resilience is as important as luck, and you’ve clearly been gaining that. Great perfume choices! Wish you all the best for 2016!
Thanks, nozknoz! Wishing the best for you as well!
Holly, where do you live? U.S.? After complaining the other day about *never* finding perfume in antique shops, I stumbled on a little place here in NC that had a few tiny-mini perfume bottles. And one was your Fleurs de Rocaille, $4. If you’d like me to snag it and send it to you, drop me a line at andreadeveto at gmx dawtttt calm. (I think its empty)
Oh my, thank you so much for thinking of this! I appreciate the offer, SicilianaNM but I’ll pass since I treated myself to an eternity of Fleurs de Rocaille already!
Nice to see you! I can empathize having lost my mother in October. And everything else that came with it. As nozknoz said: resilience is key. In our own way, and in our own time.
Those Aedes bottles are so solid and beautiful. Enjoy the juice!
Thanks, Elisa P. My condolences on your loss, and “everything else that came with it” which I know ends up being quite significant.
I know how it is to find your family just basically gone when someone’s dying…that was my 2013, when my mother’s two siblings disappeared (my mother died many years ago) when my grandfather was ill, so everything fell to my sister and me. Hoping for a lovely 2016 for you!
I also sympathize on the Iris Nazarena. I’ve been eyeing that forever, but can’t justify the cost (especially just now) or another full bottle. Glad you got a decant!
I’m so sorry you also had this experience, but thank goodness you weathered the storm. Wishing you a wonderful 2016 as well, and may Iris Nazarena be in your future!
Thanks for your post.. I love the scent to remember and the one to move forward.
I haven’t experienced loss (yet) the same way. My husband has and holidays are tough for him. I hope 2016 blesses you in many many ways.
Thanks, LizzieB! I hope 2016 will bless you as well.
Glad to see you back. Sorry about all the loss and unfortunate events. I hope that the new year brings better things your way. I love your idea for a perfume to honor the past and one for the future. Happy New Year!
Thanks, poodle! It’s good to be back! Happy New Year to you as well!
So nice to see you back!
My family has changed too over the past 5 years. I am so much better but I’ve also started to realize I may never really get over it.
Thank you Robin!
I suddenly found myself realizing that I may never get over it, and that’s been a huge relief to be honest. I’m very happy that I have strong feelings about my loss, and I think they’re appropriate. I think our hearts are big enough to hold all of our feelings, even though that can hurt at times. All of that is to convey that I understand, and I appreciate your sharing. Big hug and best wishes for the coming year!
Welcome back, Holly!
Thank you, missionista!
Hugs to you Holly!!! We’ve shared our losses – thank you for being here (there) with me. You are a rock!
Aw, thanks hajusuuri! Yes, we’ve shared our losses and I’m so grateful for your support. A rock, you say? Gosh, it sure doesn’t feel that way but I’ll take it! I hope you’re having an amazing time in Madrid. Maybe you will have a Seville a l’aube experience like Denyse … 😀
Darn fat fingers. Aube. Forget the tricky e and a. Not happening.
It was actually Segovia…don’t ask why I mentioned Seville instead so no experience like she had 😉
I am lucky to still have most of my family around, but how long no one know. So I can only imagine your loss! Hope 2016 is much better!
Thank you, Mariann. I hope you have a wonderful new year as well!
Good morning and Happy New Year!
2015 was a year of change and growth for me. I settled into a job I love and can see myself retiring from, bought a house, and started counseling to battle the anxiety and depression I’ve struggled with all my life. For the first time I really feel my age instead of a nervous teenager in a 30something’s body.
On that note I’ve chosen to wear what I think is the most “grown up” perfume in my collection. Lanvin Arpege. I’ve layered the modern EDP with my vintage extrait in a nod to the turning of the year. Arpege was one of the first perfumes I bought when I fell down this rabbit hole and I still love it. Learn from the past and look to the future.
May your 2016 be filled with joy and discovery in all aspects of your life!
This is wonderful to hear, libberation! I find Jeanne Lanvin rather inspiring, too. “Learn from the past and look to the future” – wise words!
Thank you nozknoz! And now I’m on the hunt for more about Jeanne Lanvin after your comment led me to her wiki!
Sounds like a productive year! Thanks for the layering idea. I have both and it never occurred to me to try that.
It was really quite lovely! I got a lot more of the peach with them combined than I do with just the edp alone which was interesting. It’s worn off now and I’m tempted to go one step further and layer those two PLUS my vintage Eau de Lanvin formulation. Such a wild child I am!
Best of luck with the counseling. I’v found CBT to be quite effective, though of course it depends on where you are in your journey.
Thank you Merlin. I’ve been doing a combo of things and have found CBT helpful too. It’s one of the scariest yet rewarding things I’ve done for myself!
Your user name reflects your year so wonderfully. I wish you all the best for continued growth and change.
Thanks missionista and the same to you!
Meant to comment yesterday on your post and got sidetracked, but just wanted to mention (although you probably already know this) that aerobic activity is as effective as medication for depression and anxiety. This is evidence based science and it’s one of the main reasons I am so dedicated to my exercise routine. It works, and it works quickly! Added benefits are enhanced physical and cardiac health. Not to mention it is mood lifting and very satisfying to see your body become toned and shaped. You feel strong physically and emotionally, more centered and have confidence to handle the never ending stresses that life throws at you. Best of luck in the New Year 😀
Oh dear, just thinking about my comment made me feel the need to include a disclaimer. Not trying to give any medical advice, just passing along additional info that may help as an adjunct 🙂
No worries deva! And yeah exercise is one of those things I really *know* I should do especially since I sit hunched over jewelry at my job all day but… Ugh. I’m a scrawny weakling that failed gym so it’s hard for me to work up the gumption!
No need to start in a gym or class. Dancing is great cardio and so, of course, is walking. If you can find something active that you *want* to do rather than *should* do you may have enough fun to keep doing it. (From another failure at gym class.)
I started with my ole fave No 5 EDT and I am now in Shalimar EDP.
For new year’s eve I wore Vol de Nuit extrait , mixed with Cuir Beluga ( ! ) and No 5 EDT during the day . 😀
Happy new year blessings for 2016 !!!!
You can’t go wrong with these classics! Happy 2016!
I decided to go with my gut first thought, and I spritzed myself in Carnal Flower. Not sure why this is the scent that came to mind, except perhaps there’s something both aspirational and comforting about it?
Smells pretty, in any case. Happy New Year, all!
I assume, too, that this is CF from your coffret–and if that coffret (returning bigger and better after its disappearance!) isn’t a totem of luck and prosperity, well I don’t know what is 🙂
It’s nice to be able to (occasionally) afford to throw caution to the wind! I do not take it for granted–I’ve lived most of my life (certainly most of my adult life) in near-poverty. Now that my finances are solidly comfortable, I make sure to appreciate what I have. Easy enough to remember times when even little luxuries were out of reach.
I wanted to write a second post just to say thanks to all of you here, to express gratitude that I’m part of such a fantastic community of such wonderful, thoughtful people. It’s so much more than just a perfume blog. To all of you who’ve been struggling this past year and who are real enough to share what we all go through, often silently, I wish you all the best for 2016. Hugs to you all.
Well said! I have such gratitude for the community here. Authentic, open, caring and supportive–such a wonderful place!
So true. This is much more than a perfume blog. I’m new as of the last few months, and I’m floored by all of authenticity and generosity and support that exists here. It’s a wonderful community, and I’m so grateful to have felt so welcome here.
Hear, hear Perthgirl. Nicely said and so true.
I love reading your positive comments, perthgirl. Best in 2016.
Hear hear! NST is a wonderful place, thanks to Robin and people like you perthgirl.
Absolutely, perthgirl and thank you for giving voice to what we all feel. Big hugs from me as well.
Yes, absolutely, Perthgirl, you’re completely right. This is a great place to visit, and it really is a community with the best sort of village green, perhaps. I know it’s truly a community because when “regulars” disappear for a while, I miss their voices and wonder what’s up, hope all is well, am happy to see them return.
So much more…. indeed! And thank you for stating so.
Grateful as well.
Thank you so much for posting that. Every so often someone complains about how much non-perfume talk there is here, whether it’s people talking about their health or their pets or whatever, but I do feel so strongly that first of all, people here become friends, and if you can’t unload on your friends when things go wrong, for heaven’s sakes…and second, really, how dull would it be? Imagine a SOTD that was just a long list of perfume names.
So thank you to everyone who shares their news, good or bad!
Definitely glad we are not restricted to scent-only chatter! What killjoys 😉
Well, I don’t know. No one place is perfect for everyone, right? But there are other sites that stick more closely to the topic at hand, so hopefully there is a right place for everybody 🙂
I rarely comment, but I am so pleased that you created the Scent of the Day posts. I love that commenters put their fragrance choices into a context (of weather, tasks of the day, mood, sampling, collections), including the context of where they are in life. It creates a wonderful community.
I don’t know if you noticed this comment on Andy Tauer’s blog post about perfume blogging: “Here’s my best perfume blogging list. I respect and fully support Now Smell This Perfume. Thank you, Robin”
Beautifully put!
You’ve put beautifully into words what all of us feel, even if I may be too shy to comment a lot.
I love hearing about everyday thoughts and days, so thank you!
Very well said. I feel so fortunate to be a part of this community. Every day I come here and laugh and cry and learn. I have rarely felt so welcomed as I have here. Thank you all.
happy 2016 !!
there was no hesitation whatsoever in picking Misia for today ! i am really loving it, and am wondering if i should have purchased the larger bottle instead !
i just finished reading Chandler Burr’s The Perfect Scent yesterday, and it was such a fantastic book ! the journey was further enhanced by sniffing my jardin sur le nil once in a while – it’s an incredible experience to visualise the creation of the scent while smelling / wearing it.
What fun…I enjoyed that book too, and of course you smell great!
Happy New Year! I went with a combination of roses today. JM Red Roses crème with SL La Fille de Berlin. They smell like prosperity to me. Have a good weekend everyone.
This makes sense! Ioften like to wear another rose scent, Amouage Lyric, because it feels so positive. Enjoy!
I can see roses evoking prosperity…like a Bollywood wedding, or the Rose Bowl Parade.
Oooh going point on the parade! I only caught a few minutes of it but it really makes you feel optimistic in some way!
Good point rather…
I’m wearing Mohur extrait from a decant, because I need to attract prosperity to afford things like this! I feel lucky to be wearing it, and that must be good for my health.
Great strategy! I’m a firm believer in the idea of attracting whatever we put out there.
I have a little Narcotic Venus on my shirt which is beauootiful! I’v told myself that if I regulate my spending this year I can buy a bottle of it end of next year. It’s waaaay out of the price range I am generally prepared to spend on a scent – so its an attempt to prioritize discipline and long term goals. Wait…are those English terms? Coherent concepts? Humane objectives? *shakes head*.
Mmmm you smell goood 🙂 what’s the lasting power like on you Merlin? I find it kind of disappears in a couple of hours on me.
Also, I knew StrawberryNet stock it so was checking prices wondering if that’s an option for you? I then compared Luckyscent price and see that the name has changed. And the colour of the juice… It’s now Narcotic V, and it’s much paler. Hmmm, precendent dictates that this may not be a fortuitous turn of events… :-/
Yes, in fact I didn’t realise it was Narcotic Venus when I first saw it at the shop and only when I returned did I assume that that was what it was! A kind perfumista once included a small sample of it in a swap we did and I don’t remember being that taken by it. So, it could be that I prefer the later (probably cheaper) formulation, or that I’v only started appreciating tuberose in the last year or so.
I Definitely didn’t find it to be the kind of powerhouse some reviewers describe it as, but then I don’t find Carnal Flower very strong either.
I sprayed my chest two or three times on Wednesday evening and thought I was getting occasional whiffs to the early morning. Some got on my shirt and it can be smelled if I put fabric to nose.
Thanks for the discounter tip!
Good to hear from you, Merlin! I’ve missed seeing you here…
You too, Holly! I immediately brightened up when I saw your name 🙂
It sounds like the last year was a really difficult one and I hope this year is a brighter one for you! Sometimes things lighten slowly and one is suddenly quite surprised to see it is day…
I too adore the bottle of Iris Nazarena. I saw it once oversease and had just the tiniest sniff. The scent seemed so lovely I decided -given the price – it would be better not to smell it properly 😮
Aw, thanks Merlin! I brightened up when I saw your name as well – I hope you’re doing great! May this year be bright for you, too.
Iris Nazarena is lovely in every way, definitely covetable but it’s actually kind of nice to be okay with letting it be. For now. Maybe. 😉
That sounds like a good place to be!
Happy New Year, Merlin!
I’ll be trying to be more disciplined this year too. It’s not going to be easy but like you I’ve got some big ticket perfumes that I’d like eventually and I need to save my pennies for them. Good luck to the both of us.
Well, we can cheer for each other on the way! And a wonderful new year to you too 🙂
Ha ha. Your comment made me think of those 60s (70s?) home fashion catalogs where women got together to decide what they wanted to order, then each week put aside money till they could afford the order. Savers Club, was it called? We need a Perfume Savers Club, maybe with celebratory milestones.
Lol!
Yesterday, I wore Nuda, wondering why it was discontinued. Today, it’s Theorema. I love Theorema.
I believe it was discontinued due to the cost of the jasmine. I read that it became too expensive to keep producing at that quality so they canned it. You smell great, both days 🙂
Yum. I can’t believe some niche brand doesn’t do some version of Theorema. Preferably verging on outright plagiarism.
Yeah, a note-for-note duplicate, with one or two subtle changes so it’s at an arm’s length from outright theft. It’s not as if Fendi cares about the scent, right? But we do!
I chose Costes, because if any fragrance could bring luck and prosperity, Costes should be that fragrance … and as soon as all that prosperity hits me, I’m going to Paris and staying at the Hotel Costes. How’s THAT for a New Year’s resolution? 🙂
You can be my life coach/business manager. 🙂
Nice!
Ha brilliant–I also considered Costes but couldn’t think of a good enough justification. Yours is inspired 🙂
Or delusional. 😉
LOL — PERFECT perfumista reasoning.
Happy New Years, everyone! I hope you’re starting the year full of optimism and that your hopes are all exceeded.
Choosing a scent for today was hard. For some reason, nothing seemed to capture the heft of promise for a new year. Still, though I don’t quite love the scent, Jubilation 25 kept calling to me. I’m wearing just a dab and it seems to be an exercise in giving a chance to things even when they’re difficult. Probably a good lesson for the new year.
Love Jubilation 25! That was my NYE scent! I can only ever wear just the smallest squirt of it without alienating everyone within 25m of me all day, but I love it! I can get away with wearing it a bit more now that I”m in Europe (at least for the year) and people are more tolerant of perfume.
Hey, that’s a great idea for a perfumista New Year AND a great example of optimism. Good for you.
What a great way to look at it!
Happy New Year to you all!
This is a tricky theme, but have really been loving reading everyone’s interpretation.
I’ve gone with Unum Lavs for the symbolic cleansing, offering and prayer that incense represents.
Ooh! What a great choice, Gi! This really resonates with me. I hope I can be suitably reverent when I’m searching for my sample of this cuz I certainly don’t want to wreck the mood by wreaking havoc beforehand.
Nice! Is a “must try” incense?
Happy New Year to one and all! I don’t know if the scent I chose will bring health, wealth, or prosperity, but it makes me HAPPY!
Kalemat! I bought a 100ml bottle blind and it was instant love. The scent is warm a tobacco-y Amber, but so transparent and light I can wear it in the heat and humidity here. It’s quite a contradictory scent as it still had a wonderful heft and density despite the aforementioned transparency. The bottle and presentation are quite beautiful as well and the price is outrageously economical for the quality and quantity of this scent. Two spritzes last >12’hours on me .Highly recommend ❤️
Still waiting for my bottle of T42 to arrive (which I bought in mid-December) and the no buy is in full swing, although I was quite tempted to make an online purchase last night. We’ll see how long I last!
Hoping everyone has a fantastic year and appreciate not only tho blog posts by the various contributors, but also the comments. I read every day and although I have been quite busy lately and haven’t done a ton of commenting, I am still keeping up with everyone’s scented adventures. Cheers!
Kalemat is such a fantastic bargain! Was your almost-purchase perfume? (I’m still admiring your willpower at not buying Onda 😉 )
And I must say, your little T-Rex friend looks very cute and a little bit naughty! 🙂
Onda is on the back burner, sadly. I did a swap for a partial bottle of the edp, but it’s altogether different from the VdE. There are other more affordable scents I would like to have. Dries, Box of Eels, ad infinitum…
I was very tempted by an Arabian Oud perfume oil on ebay- a 20ml bottle of Kalemat Amber. We’ll see how long I last.
Pretty sure T-Rex has the devil in her and seriously contemplating a canine exorcism. Where’s Ceasar Milan when I need him?
Hope your new year is fragrantly fabulous over there across the big pond.
I haven’t smelled Onda VdE but I’ve loved the EDP for a while. It’s probably better for me and my bank account to have not sniffed the extraits. I caved and bought the EDP the other day. I can’t wait for it to arrive.
Oh, congrats on your beautiful purchase! Wear it in good health 🙂
There are different Kalemats, right? Which one do you have?
I have the “plain” Kalemat in the amber colored etched bottle. The “Kalemat Amber” oil is supposed to be even better and comes in what looks like a decorated metal flask type bottle. The Arabian Oud selection is a bit difficult to negotiate…
T-Rex looks adorable(even in a thumbnail)! I saw a place called Martial Arfs-doggy boot camp-and thought of her.
That’s hilarious! I bet it would be a huge benefit- tough love doggie style!
T-Rex is adorable. Here’s hoping both our pups learn how to be nice, respectable little canines in 2016 and if not, here’s hoping you and I can make it through without any major catastrophes. Lol.
I’m saying prayers for both of us! She’s not BAD in the real sense of the word, but she is very busy and really likes to test boundaries! The more tired she becomes, the more she bounces off the walls. I have learned to just put her in her crate for a nap (more like she falls into a coma) and that seems tom”reset” her.
Have faith Deva, my T42 got here Wednesday morning but It looked like I was just a hop skip and a jump from a distribution center. I LOVED it btw. Spritzed myself with wild abandon before remembering I had an appt at the allergists where all scent is forbidden! Ended up trying to remove it with wet wipes in the parking lot but it’s very resilient! Hope you bottle finds you soon, happy, and healthy 🙂
Thanks libberation! Glad you found a new love! Was it a blind buy for you?
I’m excited about it because I have wanted to try it for a while, then it was discontinued!
And then I DIDN’T want to try it for fear of falling in love with a no longer available scent 🙁
And then it came BACK 🙂
And then it was $38!! :)))
BTW, I’m pretty sure you allergist thought you smelled GREAT!
Yup total leap of faith! Ah the rollercoaster emotions of a perfumista!
What if I blind buy and hate it?
What if I love it and they change it?
What if I hate it and give it away and then two years later love it?
LOL!
You inspired me to put on Kalemat after the gym. I’m constantly tempted to buy a bottle but so far, have managed to stay strong.
You smell fantastic! And I hope T42 shows up soon. That’s a wonderful one, too.
I’m going on the record as a total enabler- this is a scent you NEED a full bottle of! Bad sentence structure aside, you can’t afford to NOT get this one! Just sayin’ 😉
Happy New Year, everyone! We had a quiet NYE at home last night (SOTE Yvresse), but today will be crazy busy as we are having company over for dinner — there is much cleaning and cooking to do. I think I might go with Aftelier Ancient Resins during the mania phase of the day (it feels so calming), then….? I thought about wearing something quite grown-up to meet the tall order of today’s SOTD, but… nah, more likely I’ll go with Hedonist for the feeling of silly joy and happiness 🙂
Wishing all of you a happy and healthy new year, hugs when you need them, congrats when you’ve earned them, and joy, big or small, each and every day!
We did quiet too, and I did not even stay up until midnight, which is probably why I’m in a great mood today. Ancient Resins sounds perfect, and I might wear that tonight too.
Happy New Year Everyone!
I spent one of the loneliest New Year’s Eve’ in my life last night–completely alone Today I am wearing MFK’s Aqua Vitae Forte because it’s bright and gives me some hope that maybe this will be a better year.
Aww… Sending you some nice snowy hugs from Montreal – may your 2016 be filled with warmth and light!
Thank you cazaubon.
It sure will be!
Thanks solanace!
Happy New Yaer Filomena. Special celebration days and holidays can have a horrible way of highlighting one’s aloneness so take care of yourself and look forward to the rest of the year and all the average days of uncelebrated joy and potential togetherness.
You’re right Kanuka…thank you!
Happy New Year, Filomena. Thank you so much for sharing this, it takes guts and I really admire you for being open. I was alone as well. I hope the coming year will be better for you, and you obviously have the spirit, the strength and the courage to make it so. Big hug.
Thank you Holly. Happy New Year to you too and welcome back. Hopefully, we will both have a good year ahead of us!
Happy New Year. I hope it is filled with much togetherness and joy for you.
Happy New a Year! That’s a ducky feeling. Hoping things perk up for you. And You smell great!
Aqua Vitae Forte was a complete surprise for me. I got a sample in a goody bag and was put off by the “Aqua” part. But after testing it, was surprised by how much I liked it. It reminds me a bit of the structure of Shalimar(slightly bitter citrus segueing into vanilla).
Sorry you were alone and I hope in the new year those evenings are few and far between for you.
So sorry you were lonely! I am alone tonight and enjoying it (possibly too much), but it’s always easier when it isn’t a holiday.
Filomena and Holly, some random and adverse chain of events and all those who SHOULD have been enjoying your company ended up without it. I wish all those people better luck this year! 😉
Beautifully put–I cosign 🙂
LOL!!!
Nope, that was entirely in earnest.
Aw, thank you! It’s such a charming way of looking at things!
Lovely words and so true!
Oh,goodness! Sorry to hear you’re struggling with loneliness. Many of us were alone with you last night, myself included. I was in bed by ten, woke up to my neighbors celebratory firecracker chaos about 1130, and drifted right back off. I’m pretty ok with my own company, but then I am old and set in my ways. There is something quite liberating about watching all the drama of life unroll without feeling the compulsion to add to it, but then I’m a bit of an oddball. I hope 2016 is the year that you find a special someone to share your life with ❤️
The grinch here is wearing M. Micalef Ylang in a desperate attempt to overcome holliday induced crankiness.
Wishing you all a fun and healthy 2016.
De-grinching you is what we’re here for!
❤
Ooh. You smell lovely.
Yes, it’s gorgeous! It’s sweet, I admit, but I like me some sugar, and this smells very high quality and quite complex, so it doesn’t feel silly (not that I mind silly, anyway…) Oh my, I need a FB of this… Happy new year!
Unaware of today’s project I tried one of my newish samples, Bruno Acampora Jasmin, which I enjoy but do not love. Favourite “dense” jasmin is still ” A la nuit”.
I wish everyone a fabulous new year!
A la Nuit is beautiful. I need to get more of that.
Ditto.
Went on a jasmine hunt at Our Lady this summer and ended up favoring A La Nuit out of the many (MANY) scents I sampled. Brother Andre really outdid himself and pulled out so many wonderful and fascinating things with jasmine front and center as well as lurking between the flower beds. Such a great note, I was surprised to find that the straight-up treatment was really the one I preferred!
It takes a lot of sniffing to appreciate how well balanced “A la nuit” actually is.
Putting your jasmin’s on my sample list. I just tried ELDO’s Jasmin et Cigarette yesterday and thought I wasn’t a fan yet my nose kept coming back to that wrist all day!
It’s not my favourite jasmin at all, but it’s very intriguing.
I struggled all week with this challenge, but just when I gave up, Poof! there the answers were in my mind’s eye.
Like all good NSTers will tell you, one is never enough. So….
for Luck, Acqua di Parma Colonia offers a bright, fresh start.
For Health, SL Santal Blanc and Chanel Sycomore are both based on purifying scents I love. And for Prosperity, No. 19 says “Outta the way, comin’ through!”
(And on the outside chance Luck gets confused with Get Lucky, there’s the beautiful Bottega Veneta. :))
To paraphrase Tiny Tim, Good Luck to us, every one!
Lovely!! And are they all playing nicely together?
Ha ha, sorry – not all at once. With this cough they’d put me in the ground!
Started with Colonia, maybe moving to something else before (back to) bed. Breathing’s kind of irritated.
Ah, makes sense!
Happy New Year!!
I’m huffing on the Sebastiane Expresso, which is a nice blast of caffeine, and it got me out the door running today, which is exactly how I wanted to start the first day of 2016. It reminds me of a coffee scrub which I had gotten but forgot exactly what it was. The best part of caffeine is that you don’t need to just drink it to get the rewards. Best drug ever… even in limited cosmetic doses.
I think the Sebastiane Expresso reminds me of the Alba Botanica Hawaiian Kona Coffee after sun lotion.
PS Props to Kalemat as well!
I have never tried Sebastiane but that sounds great — I adore Kona Coffee lotion.
I’m wearing CSP Amour de Cacao today and as much as possible this year. If anything’s going to lead the way to health and happiness and good fortune, it’s that one: always appropriate (even in summer), never offensive, just a universally excellent thing. And when I run out, which seems pretty likely (my 100-mL aluminum bottle is a decade or more old, so I MUST be coming to the end of it by now), I’ll have an excuse to get another bottle — probably the only thing I’ll buy all year.
That is a fragrance to make anyone happy! Mm! Delish!
You got the enabler’s pin as I bought my 30 mL sample based on your comments 🙂
Ha! I hope you love it as much as I do.
Curious if you have smelled a new tester? I have no idea if lots of the old CSPs have changed. (and knocking on wood for you!)
I haven’t, but I am crossing my fingers that if they’ve tinkered with it, they haven’t done anything too drastic. I just want that salty, dusty chocolate and vanilla, please. It doesn’t seem too much to ask.
Day 1 of 2016: Eau d’Hiver. The little bottle was thanks to to Christmas money, which also means I am free to finish my decant. No doubt 2016 will be prosperous because I didn’t buy the 50 or 100 ml bottle.
You smell wonderful!
Happy 2016 everyone. I’ve loved reading all your posts and thanks again Robin for your engaging reviews and stimulating posts.
This year I hope to pay closer attention to the smells and scents of my surroundings. Every day I walk my two dogs on the hills and feel a kind of wonder as I watch them follow invisible scent trails across the tussocks and through the scrub. I am taller than them so I often spot the rabbit or hare they are chasing, whereas they make the whole journey by scent alone…it seems so magical to me ( like Perthgirls experience of digging potatoes…all that life going on underground that surprises us when we encounter it). So I’m going to keep a scent journal…not for perfumes but for my surroundings…and try and become a bit more mindful of the magic of the unseen world. Honey suckle and cut grass scents currently floating in through my window, and still a hint of carnation from the soap under my pillow. Fantastic. Bravo life!
You know, your overview of your dogs’ activities reminds me that since I’ve worked in Auckland, I’ve always had my office in towers, 10 floors,14 floors above the ground and that when I’ve stood at the windows looking out, no one below has ever looked up and seen me looking down. I’d wave and grin if they did! I’m going to look up more in 2016. Simple symbolism there, but it works.
It’s true how many people fail to look up; I once was outside and practically had to point out a beautiful double rainbow to people
I love your idea of keeping a scent journal.
Such a good idea!
Happy 2016 everyone! Hope this year is sweet smelling and wonderful. Decided to go with Dangerous Complicity! It’s fun, sexy, and beautiful… No serious thought in picking it otherwise! :). Fragrance plan for the year is to keep it fun and exciting….
And the perfect name for a New Year’s Day fragrance.
Happy New Year, Everyone! I was hesitant to post today because I know that people would say my choice would be no surprise, but…….
I have to stick with what I know, makes me feel good, and brings light to my life each and every time I wear it.
My SOTD is JM Nectarine Blossom and Honey.
Although so many people have mixed thoughts about this scent and the line, it is the one that I have always loved and treasured. In 2015, one of my “perfume resolutions” was to step outside the box and try different things. I did that and am proud to have a plethora of scents besides JM. For 2016, my “perfume resolution” will be to wear what makes me feel happy, rich, and appreciative of the fragrance collection that I have accumulated throughout the years.
My wish for all of my NST family is that each and every one of you have a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2016 while smelling divine throughout!
Great perfume resolutions!
Aww! Thanks!
Hey, no reason you should need to be surprising — it makes you happy!
🙂
Hey, you’re allowed to like whatever you like! Other people’s preferences do not have to be yours, any more than yours have to be theirs! I should think this whole enterprise would grind to a halt if a given perfume were only allowed to be enjoyed if it could get a unanimous yes vote!
Thanks! 🙂
Happy 2016! I just gone done eating 24 canned grapes. The hotel provided canned grapes (12 in each can) for the Spanish tradition of eating 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight. I ate fresh ones at the stroke of midnight while out celebrating at a restaurant which specializes in operatic entertainment. I hope eating the grapes is a good beginning to eating more fruits during the year. We spent the day in Segovia and had roasted suckling pig for lunch 😉
As for perfume, I decided to go with my best of 2015 – Chanel No. 19 EDP (Surprise! Not!). It was an easy choice as I am on vacation and already have it in my toiletries pouch !
OOOOHHHH!!! So Jealous!! Hope your trip is a magical start to the year!
As for me, today is the first official day of my RETIREMENT!!!!! I am still in my pajamas and smelling of the remain of the day–Portrait of a Lady (wow, that stuff has staying power). I am going to hold off on any one scent, because for me 2016 will be about something new everyday….including perfume.
All best wishes to the NST community for a joyous and peaceful new year.
How lovely, congratulations!
thanks Robin–this has been a long time coming and I am excited to move onto the next chapter.
Jepster, congratulations and Happy Retirement! Sounds like you have a great Year opening up ahead of you.
Thanks, hopefully some travel stories (complete with perfume) will be forthcoming!
Hey jepster! Congrats on the retirement and we know this means we’ll see you at some future NYC NSTers get-togetherness, right? Right? 😉
Aargh! Get-togethers (darn auto-correct)
Absolutely!! I see some sniffing in our future!
Oh my gosh, congratulations!! I’m delighted for you–can’t wait to hear about all the new things 2016 brings you!
Thanks for your good wishes!
How super! Warmest congratulations! I shall be following in your footsteps just as soon as I can organise it, and we can swap retirement project notes, perhaps. Clearly, I’ll be turning the earth for a potato patch….you?
I plan to take a few months to regroup, then launch my own consulting practice….hope to work part time, on projects of interest. No potato patch, but I plan to put in some more lavender in my garden–it seems to grow like mad for me!
I think 12 chocolate truffles would have been more fun but at least the grapes start the year on a healthy note.
I hope you’re enjoying your trip. Happy New Year!
I pretended they were truffles 😉
I did not know that tradition, and I don’t think I’ve ever had a canned grape except in that “fruit cocktail” that we ate when I was young and that I never see these days.
Hope the rest of your trip is fantastic!
They are the fruit cocktail grapes and were actually better than the fresh ones which had pits. I spit the pits onto the Yule Log ice cream and it looked more like ants on a log. As to the tradition, you’re supposed to stuff them quickly into ones mouth and try to say Happy New Year with your mouth full…. but on a more serious, “educational” note, each grape is supposed to represent good luck for each month in the year.
Well, I am late but I am going to try to eat 12 of *something*! It’s a lovely tradition.
There’s something very decadent about individual cans of 12 grapes each. Decadence is a great way to ring in the New Year! The rest of your vacation sounds great so far.
Ha! I thought about bringing it home but did not want to run the risk of customs searching my bag for “fruits”!
Hello hajusuuri! Happy New Year!
I saw in your post yesterday, you procured a sample of YSL Body Kouros! I hope you like it! 🙂
We’ll see. I forgot to see if it was the flat-bottomed or the funny-looking skinny bottom. I have been eyeing the one available from Amazon as it is half the price of what I’m seeing elsewhere.
And Happy New Year to you, too, Bear!
Happy new year hajusuri! The 12 grapes is a new tradition to me, how cool. I went for my family’s traditional pork and sauerkraut for lunch and, while I love it, the grapes sound like about all I want for dinner! Enjoy your beautiful Spanish new year!
Thank yo and please pass the pork 🙂
Interesting tradition! If I do not forget, next year I’ll come up with my version of this tradition. But it’ll have to be something small to eat 12 of it… I have a year (almost) to think about it 🙂
Happy New Year, dear! You smelled great! (I should probably wear No 19 EdP from your decant tomorrow).
Happy 2016, perfume friends!
How encouraging to read your various comments, to hear what you’ve come through in 2015 and those things you hope for in 2016. Inspiring and thought provoking.
I’d like to slow down in 2016. To smell, see, hear, experience more of life vs rushing through each day many times completely self absorbed.
I’m starting the New Year in Bvlgari The Bleu. No reason really, just enjoy the scent and I know it’s one my husband likes too. Cheers!
You smell great! You know Bvlgari’s pr sent me a MASSIVE candle in that scent, and of course I couldn’t keep it (and it was too huge to pay to ship it so couldn’t do a contest either) but have to say it smelled fantastic unlit. If you like the scent you might look for the candle.
I bet that’s a gorgeous candle. It’s a soothing scent and I can easily see a candle version of it working very well in a bathroom or bedroom.
Happy New Years to NST! I would be wearing perfume today if I didn’t have a bad cold. I blame too much champagne last night and all of those French smokers probably didn’t help either. I did wear Anubis last night to the party I went to. It was absolutely perfect. Anyway here’s to a great New Years for all of the NST writers and readers.
So sorry! Hope the NY’s Eve was fantastic enough to make it worthwhile — sounds like it was 🙂
It’s no fun to start the new year with a cold. Hope you feel better soon!
Happy New Year to you too. Hope you get to feeling better really soon!
Happy New Year everyone!
Some lovely comment above the warmth of the NST community that I agree with completely.
I made the effort a few days ago to tidy up my samples and decants – it wasn’t as bad as I feared, but I still found a few things I’d forgotten about. I’m making an effort to use up some of the things I like, but don’t like enough to want to have on hand forever. Not doing too well so far – the little of pile of things I can’t quite bear to empty isn’t much smaller 🙂 I went for a lovely walk in the sunshine yesterday (New Year’s Day here) perfumed by the last drops of Balmain’s Ambre Gris – like but not love, so that was one small vial emptied.
I REALLY REALLY need to do a re-organization day. Putting that on my resolution list!
A long time lurker and first time poster…I have enjoyed NST for the last several years and want to thank you all for the wonderful reviews, comments and perfume tidbits which have helped develop, further and refine my love of fragrances. My goal for 2016 is to share and contribute some thoughts and comments of my own. Thanks for such a great blog and community. Happy New Year!
Welcome, She-ra! It’s good to see you here!
Welcome!
Welcome! Lurking is fun but it’s great to join in too.
Welcome! I too lurked for years before contributing.
Welcome She-Ra, this is clearly going to be a great year, as you have already made a good start on your resolution. 🙂
Welcome!
Welcome and happy new year! I love your username being a child of the 80’s 😉 I lurked for a long time too but have found nothing but warmth and community since I started posting!
Yay! So happy to have you join us! Happy New Year!
Hi there. I also lurked shyly (yes, really!) for a couple of years, but it’s more fun to take part.
SOTD is Bulgari Black for no particular reason. Trying to think of a perfume that would bring me luck, etc. felt impossible–too heavy a load for any fragrance. But I’m very interested in what y’all have invested in which scents.
That is true about the heavy load — luckily if 2016 is crappy for me I won’t even remember to blame Frangipani 😉
That’s a great one- I find it to be a swaggeringly optimistic scent. You small all kinds of fabulous!
This was a tough one for me! I went with Rose Flash, which is the scent of pure happiness in a bottle for me. I brought it along to the hospital when I gave birth to my son in August, thinking it would be joyous to sniff during quiet moments in labor… and then wound up not really having any of those. But it would have been a good fit for the joy of his arrival!
Ha…I had all this music & reading material, and yes, no time for ANY of it. Rose Flash is a great scent to associate with your son, and congrats 🙂
I have a sample of Rose Flash that I put on the other night before I went to sleep. I woke up the next morning still smelling its wonderful scent. I have not always been a huge “rose” fan, but am slowly beginning to turn over a new leaf. Rose Flash is one of the reasons. You smell fantastic! Happy New Year!
A Very Happy New Year to all!
To begin the New Year I decided to go with TF Black Violet. After many years of looking for it, was lucky enough to get it late in 2015. Maybe it will inspire other fragrances that have eluded me to finally find their way to my home…
Love the idea of fragrances finding their way to you…. 🙂
Happy New Year NST! Hope that 2016 will bring smelly good things and perfumed discoveries to every one of you.
I feel it’s about time I delurked and let you know that I treasure and love to read you. It is one of the lovely highlights of my day to take the time and tune in to NST on the web. Thank you for that! My name is Per Christian, I live in Norway, and I am crazy about scents. I slowly but hard fell down the perfumed rabbit hole back in 2008-ish. Perfume frames my everyday, spins my head around, and some scents make my heart skip a beat or two. And perfume-people are so generous, lovely, the best!
I got a new bottle of COMME des GARÇONS 2 from my brother this Christmas (after much hinting and nudging), and that is my first scent of the day 2016, an easy choice. Very much a missed one in a crowded collection of smelly lovelies. CDG2 is full of optimism and positivity, a nice dollop of wierdness.. for me it feels like a good way to start the year.
Yay for another delurker and a great start for 2016! Welcome and Happy New Year!
Welcome!
Welcome and have a great 2016!
Welcome! CDG2 is a great scent. Wear it in good health and happiness.
Welcome! We are so happy you decided to join us!
Welcome! 🙂
Thank You ! 🙂
I actually looked backwards as I selected an older scent I like only in winter and I associate with good friends, their generosity and a trip to Paris- hopefully not only memories but repeats in 2016… so it was Ôponé.
Lovely way to go about it!
New Year’s wishes for health and happiness for all!
I’m wearing Lili Bermuda Paradise, hoping that 2016 will be a year of travel to lovely places. Last night was YSL Yvresse, to help make a stay-at-home quiet New Year’s Eve a bit more special.
A nice wish…hope it comes true!
Happy New Year, all fragrant friends! three years to retirement for me.
seems long, goes fast. My fragrance for the year is Tauer PHI Rose de Kandahar. The project I am consulting on is kind of messy and I need to go in everyday with a soft front and a hard back. Which is kind of how I feel about Rose de Kandahar. Tough and tender. I might buy a backup bottle since I am never sure how limited or exclusive something really is. The three months I had off between projects was made sweeter by being able to keep up with everyone’s postings, and the swap meet and limiting spending.
Never heard “a soft front and a hard back” before, but will have to remember it. Thanks.
Happy New Year, all! I struggled with this decision – Cabochard because it’s green and smart? Jolie Madame because I find it grounding and comforting? – but then in the shower it hit me: My Sin. Don’t know about health, but it does feel like luck and prosperity, because I have happened across it in 3 forms (powder, after bath lotion, and perfume) in 3 different places for ridiculously cheap prices. And, it feels like the kind of year I want to have – unique and strong and interesting. Here’s to a great 2016 for everyone!
You smell great! I love vintage Lanvin!
Definitely a sign.
Happy New Year all.. And thank you to the women who have included me in various sniffing adventures this past year. It has been such fun being around you all. So much generosity here.
My head cold finally arrived so can’t really smell too well. Went with Mitsouko, since it was a gift a few years back from my husband. Although he can’t smell either. My first generous act of sharing this year was giving him my cold….
Get better!
What a bummer to start the new year out feeling bad! I hope you and your hubby get to feeling better really soon.
It’s usually the other way around at my house. But on the bright side, both get to take care and be cared for. Hope you both feel better soon!
Gaiac 10 for green for luck and fortune (and also using up decants before they evaporate) & a little bolster of Patchouli 24 for smoke and excitement and smelling like myself.
Hoping for a healthy, happy, surprising 2016.
Love that you allowed practicality to enter into it too…I need to seriously use up or toss some decants.
Happy New Year and I have enjoyed reading all of your thoughtful and lovely comments. I chose Rosa Nobile body cream and 24 Faubourg, I am always reminded of my grandparents house by the Rosa Nobile and the 24 Faubourg feels like ambered sunlight- so happy and joyful and healthful. Thank you all for welcoming me into the NST community and I hope you all have a beautiful year.
What a great and meaningful combination! Hope your 2015 is beautiful too 🙂
Best wishes to all for a happy, healthy, prosperous new year! Greeted the first day of the year in Hermes Elixir des Merveille. Has been a struggle to wear in the past. Whether it’s ambergris or patchouli, resin, oud or musk, my skin will loud-speaker the slightest “earthiness” hiding at the bottom of just about any fragrance; i.e., love Angel on others, no one loves it on me. Previous attempts to wear ElxrDM left me sad. Its low-level amber, patchouli, & Siam resin joined forces on my skin, doubled-down, and relentlessly shouted insults to me and all passers-by. Not sure what mystical shift occurred between 2015-yesterday and this 1st day of 2016, but post-shower this morning, I spritzed ElxrDM into the air, walked through, and lo and behold, there it was; the chocolate-covered, orange-zested, vanilla-amber beauty I have read so many others describe. Wondrous marvel indeed. Will take it as a sign of a good year to come.
Ah, how very perfect!! Glad you gave it another shot.
I’ve seen this idea of application site intensity mentioned before, and encountered it recently with Bottega Veneta. If I apply too thinly it is weak & doesn’t last. Congrats on finding the best application method for this one. Persistence pays. 🙂
I chose Tea for Two today. I want to have more time for me in 2016 to do the things that I enjoy and not feel guilty about taking that time even if it’s just to sit down and enjoy a cup of tea.
I was making the opposite decision, which was feeling very stressful. Thank you for that comment!
That’s a great resolution and what a wonderful scent to make it with!
Like this! Good reminder to use my Tea for Two more as well.
SOTD this morning was Jo Malone Orange Blossom. It is bright and cheerful and reminds me of good times (it was my souvenir from the flagship Nordstrom on our vacation to Seattle and Portland). I am hoping that 2016 will be similarly bright and cheerful and full of good experiences. Later today I plan to wear Shiseido White Rose, which is simply one of the most beautiful perfumes I have ever smelled
50_Roses,
Shiseido White Rose sounds quite beautiful. That will have to go on my list for fragrances I must try in 2016.
Happy New Year to you!
It is not the easiest perfume to obtain, at least not in the U.S. You can get samples from The Perfumed Court. They once had a partial bottle (about half full) and I snatched it up. You can usually find listings for it on eBay (Buy it Now, not auction), shipping from Japan. I do not know whether there are typically any issues with buying it this way (customs, etc.).
Aren’t the best scents always the hardest ones to get our hands on? Thanks for the tip. 🙂
I will say about White Rose that it was not exactly love at first sniff. I was so intruiged after reading Chandler Burr’s rhapsodic praise of it, that the first sniff was a little underwhelming. “It smells like roses. How nice.” It took a few wearings to really get it. Yes, it smell like roses–after all, what do you expect from a perfume names White Rose–but it does so in such an exquisite way, and without ever veering into potpourri/air freshener territory.
Happy New Year one and all!
Like Sophie C above, I chose 24 Faubourg to represent health, wealth, luck in the New Year. It’s a wonderful scent so far.
My scent resolution is to use up 3 samples per month, so I’ll start on that project tomorrow.
That’s a good resolution with samples but now I feel like I need to organize my samples to decide which ones will get the privilege of being tested 🙂 Oh the stress!
Happy New Year – how was your gathering?
Started with the leftover whiffs of La Fille de Berlin from yesterday. It was lovely do I decided to amplify the best parts, and I applied Copal Azur for the incense snd then SSS Rose Musc for the, well, the rose and the musc…this is a wonderful combination, and I hope it bodes well for the new year when I intend to make some sort of coherent whole out of all the disparate threads of my life…Happy New Year to all!
Wow, you certainly made a coherent thread out of your perfumes! My layering is usually way more accidental / slapdash.
What an interesting sounding combination! I’m definitely curious to try Copal Azur and Rose Musc together.
Happy New Year Everyone!
I’m wearing A*Men Pure Havane on my chest and Montale Full Incense on my arms.
MFI is a pumped up, less smooth Heeley Cardinal – very nice.
A*MPH smells like I’m a sloppy drunk, having spilled a HUGE amount
of Amaretto di Sarono on my hairy chest while wearing copious amounts of the original A*Men. Not for Everyone – YMMV – but I’m loving it.
Onward and upward, brave people ! The future beckons !!!!
Bear, I love your description of that scent. In combination with the incense I bet you smell amazing.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year poodle !
Thank you – I appreciate your posts !!
( I read NST post everyday, post infrequently)
🙂
And enjoy Onda EDP, it was what I was also considering for today.
Definitely someday this week, it is fan-tas-tic!!!
Strike that first ‘post’, oy!! Why don’t I proofread ?
Gold chains no doubt coming your way in the new year. 🙂
Yikes!!
Don’t remind me !!! LOLOL Been there, done that !
Happy New Year SicilianaNM !! 🙂
I have started the new year with a neglected beauty. Guerlain Bois d’Armenie. I forgot how wonderful it was. This is to say that in the new year I will enjoy my old loves. Happy New Year to all.
That one really is lovely, and a nice way to start the year.
Happy New Year everyone!!
Wore Saffron Troublant today without thinking about it much, its easy to wear but interestingly different, warm and comforting and reminds me of some lovely travels. Hopefully a good omen for 2016.
Sounds like it!
I’m posting late and unscented. Came down with the dreaded stomach flu last evening and am just feeling well enough to indulge in some NST reading.
Just wanted to stop by to wish all a happy new year. May those of you who are grieving find peace and joy, and those of you who are celebrating continue to do so. You all contribute to one of the nicest places on the Internet and I hope you continue to share your triumphs and challenges as well as your perfume expertise.
Feel better.
Hope you feel better soon!
Speedy recovery, MM!
I know exactly what you are going through, my friend. Please try and get a lot of rest, stay hydrated, and here’s wishing a speedy recovery for you.
I am wearing my newest purchase, DSH Fumee D’Or to bring in the new year. This stuff makes me feel like a divine goddess– time to arrange the universe to be showered with blessings
Sounds like a good plan!
While you are in divine goddess mode, please arrange the universe thusly for me as well 🙂
Consider it done
Muchas gracias. Will burn some incense in your honor shortly.
Happy New Year, All!
Entering 2016 with Chanel no 5 edt. Wrapping my mind around January, and the new year. Looking forward to the coming seasons and all of their associated scent adventures.
♡☆♡
I have not yet started wrapping my mind around January…mostly I’m looking forward to April 😉
I like the way you think. As soon as January starts, I tell myself spring is on it’s way. The days are already getting longer.
Happy New Year to everybody!
Stayed scent-free until 5 minutes ago, when I decided that I wanted this year to start with the perfume I wore and enjoyed for the last day of the previous one – OJ’s Ta’if, the perfume with which 6 years ago I started down the proverbial rabbit hole of niche perfumery. Ta’if is one of my all-time favorites and I wear it usually for special occasions (like celebrating a New Year) – hence not often. So tonight I’m enjoying it just to welcome the first day of this year in hope that it’ll turn to be special. In a good sense.
Robin and everybody else who writes for the NTS: thank you for the great place you’ve created and keep maintaining. And all the best wishes in 2016 to you and the community!
I chose FM’s L’eau d’Hiver. It was an easy pick- we’ve been having unseasonably warm weather in the South and yesterday was the first day in several weeks where the weather was at all seasonally-appropriate!
