Happy Tuesday! What fragrance did you pick for today?
I'm in Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne.
Reminder: this Friday, 11/20, wear a fragrance from Yves Saint Laurent, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Kim Gordon and Courtney Love for (Yves) Saint Laurent, 2013.
M7 Fresh, which is a great office friendly scent (meeting day) with some interest. There might be a half a drop of M7 in the base, but it is mostly a gingery-citrus with a vetiver backbone.
Hope the meeting day goes well!
Hi! Today, I am wearing Bobbi Brown Bath. I needed something fresh and clean.
Bobbi Brown seems to have otherwise stepped out of fragrance…been ages since they launched anything.
I’ve paired a purple paisley shirt with L’Artisan’s Al Oudh today. I was going to write how surprisingly sheer it seemed (the perfume, not the shirt), especially since that’s how it’s been on previous wearings. Oh no, not today. Today it’s gone total sweaty filth fest. I like it more this way.
Good then!
J’adore paisley.
Me too.
Realized I’ve zero YSL in my collection–would love to try vintage Y one of these days. The YSL site is offering 20% off a $75 purchase now with code privatesale. Doubt I’d bother with current frag offerings, but they have very good lip stains/lipsticks.
I can still faintly smell last night’s Liu.
I don’t have any either! Thanks for the sale announcement- they do have great makeup
Are you in the US? I have a bunch of vintage Y and would be willing to share….
Thanks Elisa! Will pass for the time being. Wayyy too many samples as it is.
I see you are continuing Paris theme, Robin.
My SOTD is Phaedon Tabac Rouge: a gentle blend of tobacco, honey and spices. In my opinion, it is more of a honey fragrance than a tobacco fragrance. I really enjoy it when it is cold outside. To make things more interesting I put it over Opium Den body butter (by Future Primitive Soap), so I got a sweet and smoky scent. Well, as it always happens when I layer a body product and a perfume, a perfume soon dominated, but it is still a fun combination.
I’m doing a week of YSL 🙂
I can still smell traces of Parure from Guerlain when I woke up this morning . Using up the last few drops. So lovely- I wonder why they discontinued it.
I don’t own a single Y scent or sample. Hmm..
SOTD will be Shalimar Soufflé- I have been trying to finish up this sample what seems like forever
Oakmoss, reportedly, was the reason for Parure’s demise. (Unless Guerlain is lying and it was really the exhorbitant cost to make it.)
Ah! Thanks for the information
My SOTD is Chanel No 5 EDP.
I’m going to put some No 5 on as soon as I leave work – it is so beautiful and it will lift my spirits me after an annoying day.
morning!
YSL Nu (original edp) my last few sprays… 🙁
My only YSL, so will be my choice for Friday. Such a good one! Trying not to hoard my small decant I got in the swap meet.
Such a good one, but probs still find-able on Ebay.
My sotd is Bahia nr 88 fr.o.m. Frau Tonis, Berlin. A nice almondy oriental with a great late eighties vibe.
I’m in another Nicolaï, the sadly discontinued Pour Homme. A beautiful lavender.
Wearing my new 8ml spray decant of CDG Zagorsk for the second time, and not loving it. I don’t really know why… I loved and used up my sample vial, and debating buying a bottle of Zagorsk for at least a couple of years, then decided I only needed a small bit of it. Waited for a sale at the decant service and bought it, and am now all puzzled as to why I thought I adored this.
Has that ever happened to anybody else? You think you love something, you buy it, and then – pffft. The thrill is gone.
Yes, this has happened to me. But sometimes if I put the offending perfume away for a good while then I like it again!
Happens to me as well – my biggest disappointment was Santa Maria Novella Eva, which I lurved from my first sample, but which is mostly black pepper from a larger decant. I keep experimenting (dab instead? summertime vs autumn?), but to no avail so far. Ah well.
Sadly all too often – but then I find that a little later I might well like it again!
Zagorsk is a really odd one, too. I found that sometimes I would really like it, and sometimes it was close to scrubber. Just depended on the day.
That has happened to me. It’s generally not that I like the scent less per se, but I realize I don’t need to wear it as often as I might have thought and a decant might have done fine.
Happened to me lately too, also with a CDG Incense. I went through two samples and a decant of Ouarzazate, bought a bottle, sprayed it twice, retired it to the back of the shelf. I was sure it wasn’t just the thrill of the chase so don’t know if I just wore myself out on it or if there was a reformulation. I’m hoping my samples/decants were just improved with some shelf aging and my bottle will be more appealing next year.
Yes. I am having a little misunderstanding with Week-End. I really thought we had a thing… and now, I am just meh. Week-End tells me to wait until the weather warms up again, and some of the original love might be rekindled… meanwhile, Week-End is a wall-flower… no parties, no dances, no walks in the rain for us.
I seem to go off the perfumes that have a powerful presence. I will wear them for ages and then I begin to feel irritated by them….Bronze Goddess! CDG Carnation is another one. I also get bored with what I think of as watery/ melon type perfumes. I think I have the same problem with shoes and bags, though. And favourite foods.
So many times. It’s why I try really hard to make myself buy AND FINISH a decant before I commit to a bottle of anything. It turns out I am a terrible, terrible judge of what is merely a passing fancy and what’s true love.
On the other hand, I’ve had excellent advice from Merlin that, at least for the decant, it’s why one shouldn’t dither too long in pulling the trigger–might as well have some and enjoy while it does appeal to you. Spray today for tomorrow we may prefer something else entirely! 🙂
I had the same thing happen with Kyoto!
Oh yes – L’Heure Bleue, L’AP Traversee du Bosphore, AdP Iris Nobile, PD Bois de Paradise, Dior Escale a Pondichery,….. I could go on. I suffer from temporary infatuation and then, meh. I am, a few times a year over the years, a perfume slut.
Yes, usually it helps to use up a sample or decant first, but occasionally it just seems different once I get a bottle. I don’t know if they get reformulated in the meantime, or on some level I’m assuming a big bottle will be even better, or what, but it is disconcerting.
Received my earlier formulation(“vintage” seems weird for something from the ’90’s) Samsara mini last night. Definitely a winner! It has a more distinct Guerlain fingerprint than the current version, which I love as well. I can almost smell bits if Mitsouko hiding in there.
Also, interesting, edgy choices of woman for those YSL adds. I like when they use non-models to represent.
Agreed – the ads really caught my eye as a little more interesting that usual.
Yes, was stymied at first as to who exactly those two were! Interesting choices…
Ah! Congrats! What does the bottle look like? Is it sandalwood bliss? I adore samsara.
It’s clear with a gold/red top. Are you the one that said the bottle was shaped like a coffin? That’s accurate 😀
Yes I did! So glad you’re enjoying it I’m sure you smell fantastic today
Consider yourself an enabler ;-(
Oops! That shoulda been 😉
I was going to wear Scent of Hope, but it didn’t ring my olfactory bell this morning, so I am in L’Air du Desert Morocain! This stuff is fabulous. I may violate my sample/decant/full bottle rule by going directly from sample to Full Bottle on this one….
You just articulated the rule I didn’t know I had. But yes, that’s my progression, unless I see a terrific FB deal. Upward and onward!
Twins! And I definitely went straight from sample to bottle… no regrets here.
How often do you wear this, I wonder? It is so unusual, I am not sure I would keep a FB in a regular rotation, which is the point of a FB (spray with abandon!)
I don’t wear it THAT often, but I have enough samples/decants/bottles that I don’t wear my absolute favorites that often either. That said, it’s currently my go-to when I want something that’s not too feminine or that conjures up an atmospheric sensation.
I know the rule but I have had 30, 50 and 100 mL “samples” that I oftentimes don’t even get to the “FB” stage ;-).
LAddM is really great stuff. I have about 30 mls from a large decant and I find it fantastic for layering, esp. with rose fragrances to give them extra heft.
SOTD is Cartier Panthere (the new version). I like it pretty well but not sure it lives up to the bottle. Its been 4 hours now and I can barely smell myself – I’ll have to spritz more generously next time.
Hard to live up to that bottle!
Even the blotters at the Cartier counters were fabulous – I still have the laser cut panther face because I enjoyed it so much. Scent is long gone, but still an interesting object.
And on a completely different topic, I was reading about the Breath of God Toothy Tablets or whatever they are called, the Lush toothpaste in a pill? Has anyone tried these – I am intrigued.
Ari reviewed the Lush Toothy Tabs yesterday on her blog, both the Aquatic and the Breath of God (which she preferred). Breath of God sounds pretty good to me: sandalwood, benzoin, myrrh and fennel.
http://thescentsofself.com/2015/11/16/scented-smile-lush-toothy-tabs-edition/
I’m continuing my French week with No 22 extrait. Still not madly in love with the opening, but after an hour it’s great. And the design of that bottle gets me every time.
Beautiful!
I’m sure you will get there in the end.
Sounds lovely – I find it really comes into it’s own in super cold weather – I recall wearing it walking as it was snowing and it felt incredibly crystalline (no doubt the aldehydes were enhanced) and yet the powder seemed to act as a slight comfort against the snow. Also, sometimes I really smell incense in it and not other times. It’s certainly an intriguing perfume!
I’m actually out & about today – meeting my good friend Marion for an early supper before we head off to see Nils Lofgren in concert (2nd time this year!) – so am wearing Trish McEvoy’s Snowdrop & Crystal Flower, which I’ll also be taking with me to London in 2 weeks time, again with Marion, for Champions Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall (woohoo!), a visit to the Fashion & Textile Museum for the current Liberty of London exhibition, possibly a visit to the William Morris museum, some retail therapy & lots of eating good food & drinking fine wine – oh, & perhaps picking up some Red Truffle 21 for my husband at Jo Loves – he was very taken with the free sample I was sent (anything to wean him off Paco Rabanne’s Black XS, which he’s worn for more years than I care to mention!).
Oh gosh! I love Nils Lofgren. Lucky you.
Karen: The gig was amazing – mainly acoustic, my favourite, unlike his Glasgow gig in January, which was also excellent. He covered Neil Young’s ‘Rocking In The Free World’ in tribute to Paris/France, which was a lovely touch. He always gets a good crowd here in Aberdeen, & in Edinburgh & Glasgow – we had middle seats in the 2nd row tonight!
Oh gosh, that all sounds extremely amusing! I would love to see the William Morris Museum, especially.
meredifay: Thank you for your input – we have high hopes for the Morris museum, especially the gift shop & cafe – my friend Marion is a lover of “a cuppa & a fine piece”!
I’m in my favorite layering combo today – SL Cuir Mauresque over Rose Anonyme. When I get the proportions exactly right, it’s gorgeous. You would think the CM would overpower the RA, but not so. I find it works best when the RA goes on in a very small quantity first, followed by a more liberal spraying of the CM. Yum.
Sounds lovely, what an interesting combination!, is cuir mauesque in the exclusif’s or is it a normal one?, i didn’t see it among the small SL collection at Liberty a few weeks ago, which was disapointing as i would love to try that one.
I now see Cuir Mauresque in Bell Jar format. Sheri may have bought the last known available skinny bottle of Cuir Mauresque.
Yes, mine is the tall skinny bottle, and I DO think I managed to scrounge the very last one available. It seemed that way at the time, at least – found it on Amazon (of all places for such a thing), and at a very nice price. I can’t recall who the actual seller was, but it was allegedly “the last one!” they had, and maybe it wasn’t just marketing hype in that instance. And who cares anyway – it’s mine now! 🙂
Premiere Avenue still has the skinny bottles for 115 Euros, that’s where mine came from.
Love Cuir Mauresque! Rose Anonyme, not so much but on you it probably smells fab. So sad that roses just HATE me.
We need to find a rose for you!
Well, I do love Un Rose de Kandahar, but it’s not really a rose to my nose. That’s probably why it loves me and vice versa 😉
In vintage Opium today – not sure how vintage but definitely smells rich and lovely. It gave me the required backbone for a presentation and is really comforting. I should wear it more!
Sounds perfect. I love comforting scents, but never tried Opium because I assumed it would be too strong for me. I’ll have to give it a chance next time I see it, though I’m sure the current formulation is different.
Do try it – it could be that the age of the vintage has mellowed it but it’s certainly worth a try for spicy comfort.
I’ve never worn it either. When it came out it seemed too loud and showy, but I’ve been entertaining your second thoughts, too.
❤️ Kim Gordon!
Annick Goutal Ce Soir ou Jamais for me this morning. There is nowhere in Chicago to find AG, so when visiting NYC in June, I spent an hour trying everything and chatting with the helpful SA at Barneys. Fell in love with this elegant, slightly spicy pear rose.
Ce Soir ou Jamais is one of my favorite dark, rich roses that doesn’t use patchouli in the base. It is just gorgeous! You picked a real winner.
🙂
Wearing Chanel Cuir de Russie, which is a Fall/Winter favorite.
I’m wearing Chanel Misia today, inspired by the fun printed dress I’m wearing that makes me feel just slightly retro. Misia is so very feminine and vampy to me, probably because it smells like old-school make-up. So much violet goodness!
I’m following French perfume week here and on MUA, and my SOTD is the sultry Habanita, the sexiest powder I can imagine. It’s doing wonders for my jeans and anorak 🙂
I love that image.
Habanita is very sexy. My hubbie likes it. I don’t wear it so much until it gets really cold out, but it definitely produces that kind of leather and lace vibe.
SOTD is SL Chergui from a generous NSTer. Now I get why so many like this one- it’s just gorgeous. It’s going on my imaginary FB Wish List.
“Imaginary FB Wish List.”
Sigh.
Well, maybe not so imaginary for this scent. I see a bottle from fragrancenet for a very good price. My finger is itching to pull the trigger…;)
I’m glad you like it. I think you and I have similar taste. You smell great!
Yay! A scent twin! What are some of you or favorites?
*your* favorites, even!
Tauer Incense Rose for me today. It’s crisp and cold with our first snows predicted this weekend. I have Nu, Cinema and Paris to choose from this Friday. 🙂
My favorite Tauer fragrance, and one of only two rose perfumes I truly enjoy. You smell delicious.
great choice.
24 Faubourg today. I love this one more every time I wear it. And especially on a cool fall day, it is delightful!
You smell heavenly!
Indeed she does!
Oh gosh- that is a lovely, lovely scent! It’s a scent that is perfect for a hug.
Re-upping my scent from last night: Tabac Aurea. So good!
Yup! Sooo good.
Awesome fall fragrance!
Oh, I have a Big Love for that one! ❤️????
SOTD is #3 by CdG. Initially it reminded me of 10 Corso Como, but that quickly changed, and four hours later there is barely anything at all. Too bad.
I’m wearing Perles de Lalique on one arm and Rose Anonyme on the other. I’m liking Perles better, although it’s fading fast. I may have to reapply when I go home to check my sick kitties at lunch. Regarding YSL scents for Friday. I have a 90s version of Rive Gauche and a current version of Y. Don’t have any idea of which I’ll wear. I’m not a huge fan of either.
I love both!
Perles is one of my spring/fall staple, but yes you need to reapply-which is not so bad as I love the head notes.
On me, Rose Anonyme does better in summer/summer evenings.
Y is on my need-to-try list.
Enjoy
Hope your kitties get better soon – so hard to see them sick.
I’m in Liu again this morning, awoke with a trace from last night so just went with it. It’s gusty and cool and I have to pack up two kitties and head home for a week. Sadly, the two who are staying here are the good travelers and the easiest to handle. I’m not looking forward to this trip.
The only reason I’m going home is to rescue my plants and find a new internet provider for the house. Our oils one is out of business and I have only two very expensive options now, neither of which offer what I want. I’m really not looking forward to this. So far, simple home internet looks like it’s going to cost the equivalent of a car payment.
Plant rescue is a good and noble cause! I am sorry your traveling companions are not good at traveling. Internet headaches are the worst. That being said, you smell marvelous.
Yeah, glad I came back. My husband forgot to water when he was here last week and the Rangoon Creeper is looking a bit less creepy than usual. Good thing it’s almost time for it to freeze back so it won’t have to regrow all those crispy leaves.
I’m still on DSL with Verizon. Other than the issues I had in April, it had been very good. Is DSL an option or must you go cable?
I am being forced into cable and really not happy about it. The only two ISPs in my area are the cable company I will deal with again over someone’s dead body, and an equally huge company with whom I have other accounts that I can’t bundle or I loose all my grandfathered perks. Either way, looks like I’m going to spend a lot more for a lot less. I’m just pissed that they are going to charge an additional fee when I connect any device to my own wifi, even cell phones. Apparently it’s the new way to force people to spend more on data plans. I do have a friend who works for said company so I may try shrieking at him a bit.
On the plus side, my hubby kindly took the cats in his car today since his radio isn’t working. Says he had a nice long chat with Newburg, and Doolittle alerted him to every car on the highway 🙂
Wearing an old favorite: Vintage Coriolan.
Off to NYC tomorrow night for a loooong, well deserved weekend.
The plan is not to be reasonable, the plan is to come back with many, many new bottles. Wish my credit card Good Luck!!
Hi Platinum! Let me know if you want company while having sniffy adventures. I happen to be free tomorrow night and would love to be your guide if you’re interested!
I am interested to see where you heading off to to buy your many many bottles. Aedes? Or department stores?
Have fun! Let me know what you (our your NYC sniffing companion) end up getting! NYC is the best. Be safe and warm
Ihadanidea: Great offer but I’ll be landing fairly late tomorrow night. The real fun will begin Thursday!
Most of my evenings are already spoken for as I have friends flying in to take me out. (late Birthday celebration!! Keeping fingers crossed for an evening of cocktails out at Mace)
Rain check for my next visit in the spring?
Lovetosmellgood: Aedes is obviously on my must-stop-there list. Department stores too, although we’re pretty spoiled here in Toronto.
Any suggestions of where to go for those rare finds? Any place to avoid?
I avoid Macy’s! Its too overwhelming for me and they are too pushy and want to spray you with everything.
Aedes is good-Annick Goutal has a shop on Bleeker and you can find other little shops there as well (jo malone, bond, Sisley Paris, Diptyque). Not a too far of a walk from Aedes.
Bergdorfs has a lovely selection and no one there is pushy.
The Waldorf Astoria has a Guerlain spa/boutique.
I have a soft spot of Canadians-my hubby is from NB. So let me know if you need any more suggestions. Enjoy your time!
Platinum, I’d also recommend Osswald ( a really lovely woman named Josie works there). They’re warm, friendly and carry a lot of lines I haven’t seen anywhere else in the city.
Have a fabulous trip AND birthday!
Wearing What We Do in Paris is Secret, and wishing it lasted just a wee bit longer than it does! Just 3 hours in, and it’s almost gone…..
Got a little layering going on too, with Auria Cacia’s “Chill Pill” essential oil spray. Sprayed a puff in my car for my 11 yr old daughter’s benefit, and now have an aura of patchouli going on in the background! LOL It works like a charm for her though! Middle school anxiety fades away…. 🙂
Oy – middle school! That was the worst. So glad I don’t have to live through that again. Whatever helps her cope is a good thing!
Middle school is TERRIBLE!!! Hormones and emotions raging, bodies growing, and harder schoolwork to boot. I have 1 kid in high school, 1 in middle, and 1 still in elementary. I’ll be using “Chill Pill” for years! HA HA HA
Box of Eels spritzed all about my person for my own and hopefully others enjoyment.
Warm greetings to all my darling, smelly internet friends.
You smell divine!
Thank you!
BdI is so gorgeous! I put some on over the weekend. It is perfect for all occasions.
It is. Elegant and lovely. You smelled faaaabulous, darlink.
Slathered in Body Shop peach body butter, add wanton and irresponsible spraying of Quorum and voila! Peach chypre……
WOW- you smell great!
My 100ml bottle of L’ambre des merveilles arrived yesterday, and i’m enjoying it imensly, i got it for a bargain £47 on ebay, feeling very pleased with myself and it! Although 100ml bottles are not terribly practicle, i love being able to apply liberally, and not worry about the juice ever running out!
what a comforting scent, it’s one of my favorites.
I’m draining my spray sample of this very quickly. You smell lovely!
I love that one, but sometimes I wish I’d gotten the smaller bottle – I have trouble holding onto it and spraying at the same time (small hands). Same trouble (or maybe even worse) with the large bottle of Jour d’Hermes – it’s so heavy! Gorgeous, elegant bottle, but difficult to spray from. (I know, I know – First World Problems.)
LOL! Here’s to First World Problems….
I, too, have a problem with the 100 mL bottle – goes to show that bigger is not always better 😉
musc 25 today. just felt right. it’s cool out and I’m in a cozy sweater.
I’ve been applying and reapplying Sunshine. I had purchased a smallish decant that I was hording for a while and then used it up. An NST ANGEL (I think she goes by Mrs. Santa) just sent me a huge decant and so I have been quite liberal with the juice. I finally decided I had to pretend it is called something other than Sunshine and that it does not come in a bright yellow bottle in order to “get it.”
So here it is how it works for me: The cylinder tortoise shell (faux!) flacon has a silver sprayer.. the name, Cafe Weimar, is printed elegantly, Bauhaus font, around the top of the cap in dark silver letters… Berries, small white flowers and sugared almonds sit on the sidewalk cafe table from where I am watching the passersby and drinking my second espresso with lemon peel… hints of tobacco are in the air… It is pretty and sensual at the same time… a scent for sitting in a cafe and imagining a better world. Months later you might catch the scent on your scarf and remember those warm days sitting outside and being very happy.
1) Which Sunshine perfume is it…there are so many different rays of Sunshine in a bottle…
2) Your word picture sound lovely!
The Amouage Sunshine (for women)…. the bottle and ad copy throws me off entirely!
Now you make me want to try it! You should write ad copy.
Oh, how lovely you make it sound! I had to stop myself from dancing off to buy a bottle, ‘cos it’s a thousand times nicer in your description than it was in my nose.
Oooh! I tried that yesterday for the first time and was surprised how much I liked it. Most of the other Amouage scents I have tried are somehow too much; they make my sinuses crazy even if I like them! Hat tip to the exceedingly generous Hajusuuri for the trade that was clearly all in my favor! Today I am in Dior Feve Delicieuse from same trade and it is lovely.
Scent twins.
Did you ever see the (Hungarian) Istvan Szabo movie “Sunshine” starring Ralph Fiennes…that might fit your scent?
That movie was so heartbreaking.
Steel grey rainy day in Beaverton metro, beautiful carpets of leaves.
SOTD is Jo Malone’s amber+ginger. This is very, very lovely but I think this would suit a man very well!
So many good-smelling people here today. I was reading through the posts, thinking, “Oooh, that sounds good, I could wear that….No, that one sounds better, maybe today’s a good day for it…. and Gee, I haven’t worn that in a while, I should pull it out.” In the end I decided on House of Matriarch Bohemian Black, a spicy floral amber for a blustery day.
Haven’t seen this one before, but the description sounds lovely.
Fleetwood Mac is playing in town tonight (yay)… But I couldn’t afford a ticket (boo). I can dress up warm and go and eavesdrop though. I remember I almost cried the first time I heard ‘songbird’ and I wonder if it would have the same affect thirty years later. I’m not sure that I have a good Fleetwood Mac perfume…think I will settle for Samsara?
I’ve never seen them live for the same frustrating reason($$$). Boo is right. I HAVE been to Night of a Thousand Stevies which is a Stevie Nicks tribute show and attendees dress Steviesque. It’s a hoot( and cheaper). I think Samsara works well (and is my SOTD)!
That sounds like fun. My mum once bought 100 Thai silk ties from an op shop ( thrift shop) which she sewed together to make the most amazing dress for me…complete with multi-point hem. It was the perfect Stevie Nicks dress.
What a cool idea. Clever mother! My husband has a whole drawer of ties that he never wears anymore. I wonder if I could make myself a waistcoat or something? It could be such fun under a severe jacket. Oh dear, I am indeed easily distracted by pretty colours. My older sister told me recently in a fit of sisterly frankness that I was “deeply shallow” and then got even crosser when I agreed with her.
“Deeply shallow”, I like that :^) Speaking as one who is also easily distracted by bright colors and shiny things. Perhaps I was a magpie in a previous life.
I saw a round ottoman that had been covered using ties and have always wanted to try it…
We thought about going, but the concert is at Mt Smart, not Vector, & I dislike paying $$$$$ for a $$ venue. But still…Fleetwood Mac, you know. I kind of regret our decision.
Spent all morning running errands for work and before I knew it – it was lunch time. Trying to take a breather before the next round of madness this afternoon. I’m training newbies this afternoon.
I’m wearing Bouquet Ideal by Xerjoff. It skews more masculine and is very woody. Perfect for this chilly autumn day and just what I needed mentally today.
Wearing Wrappings today. I spotted the bottle in my collection and just had to put it on.
SOTD = Hermes Kelly Caleche Parfum
I was going to wear 28 La Pausa but this one was more accessible. Hermes extraits seem to ne the only ones that come originally packaged as an atomizer and that is 100% fine by me! The extrait is more intense, richer and deeper than the EDP. The leather really comes out in this formulation!
Dior Addict again, perfect for the intensely blustery weather outside.
Gidday, all. I’m lazy and late today, and the perfume I’ve chosen to be lazy and late in is Bois des Iles. BdI is a joyous perfume, and deeply intimate. It seems to me to adapt to my mood and to conspire with me to achieve whatever action I need or tell whatever story I want. Do I need to be businesslike? BdI is there, discreet and grown up. Am I thinking and focused? BdI helpfully keeps me in the moment. A day for elegance? BdI can do that. Today: my favourite old jeans, sneakers, a soft Tee, & BdI is gleefully with me as I skive off.
Wish I could skive off with you…we could go perfume hunting!
Yes…if we were down your way, you could show me the op shops where they sell pre-loved perfume. And maybe we’d see an albatross in flight.
Interesting. In Kim Gordon’s memoirs she mentioned how she hadn’t been famous enough to get free clothes (other than from punky designer friends). Hope she gets a nice Le Smoking out of this…
In Enscens Mythique – today I will need every speck of Rich Lady Well Above the Fray, as there will be a three-hour meeting with management telling us we should be so very happy at the various wrenching changes…
Ah, don’t you just hate those sorts of meetings? My organization is going through the same process.
blah!
Oh, those meetings are the worst- what an insult to one’s intelligence.
SOTD – Iris Cendre. I think this is becoming my favorite Iris.
It is great.
I really like it too, and I usually can’t do iris.
Sampling today, so SOTD is many things, which are not all playing nicely together. Ah well.
PSA: Sonoma Scent Studios finally has the larger (17ml and 34ml) sizes of Amber Incense available for purchase.
How is that? I meant to get a sample from her, but ended up with other things instead….
I have only just ordered it, so I will have to let you know later :^)
SOTD is Infusion d’Iris. I wanted something comforting but not warm – feeling moody 😉
SOTD is Bottega Veneta – something soft nice to go and get my massive flat tire patched this morning. I smell like garage and rubber and french fries and BV…. when I get home I’m going to douse myself with No 5 and pretend I didn’t have to watch 3 hours of morning TV. I’d rather stare at a tree out the window in quiet.
Knew it was going to be a crazy work week – so I started it off right (I took yesterday off). SOTD = Kenzo Amour
Little did I know that the extra comfort would be necessary; my usual 20 minute commute turned into 2 hours!!! So frustrated with traffic, but I kept calm because it utterly ridiculous to be angry at things beyond my control while I smell like rice pudding. 😀
Also, life is too short, and I would much rather spend 2 hours in my car singing to the radio than raging and driving like a crazy person.
I’ve been reading the posts and think French week is a good idea – I’ll start tomorrow (although I feel like I am already half-participating since the name of my perfume is in French 🙂 ).
I like your attitude!
Me too 🙂 And the avatar!
Thanks! 🙂
I went for Kenzo Flower today, over Crabtree & Evelyn Iris lotion. I found the Iris lotion and shower gel as a set at Marshall’s recently. I thought C&E Iris was discontinued, so I got it. Now I wish I had the perfume. I always liked it, but I think I never bought it because I never found it in anything smaller than 100ml.
I’m really interested in violet scents right now (flower, not leaf). I’m working on something for a friend, and violet is a favorite of hers. It hasn’t been a favorite of mine, so I’m discovering that my frame of reference is really lacking. I read an interesting article that gave me some clues to what I’m missing, though, so I think I’m making progress.
CandyPerfumeBoy did a guide to violet you may want to check out, and Surrender to Chance has violet sampler packs. Which article did you read? Good luck!
Most violet scents are too delicate for me, but I love TF Violet Blonde, YSL Paris and Guerlain Insolence EDP. Hope you find some violets that suit you!
Petit Rien, earlier today, which is a shorter-lived l’Air de Rien, not sure if it’s less raunchy as per reports.
Kenzo Flower, Kenzo Flower Oriental, Kenzo Amour had mentions today . . . the Amour bottle just slays me. So pretty.
Kenzo keeps creeping up on me. I have long been fascinated by Japan and France, so I suppose the universe is telling me I need to learn more about Kenzo.
I’m sniffing the remains of Flower sprayed on paper a week ago. It resonates deeply, I think, because the powdery base reminds me of very old Chantilly. It is an odd feeling, I love to sniff it, but I’m not ready to wear it. Perhaps someday!
