What fragrance are you wearing today? Do you think its price is low, just right, or too much for what it is?
I am wearing The Body Shop's White Musk Libertine. I paid $12 for 30 ml, and I'd say that's just about right for what it is — I certainly wouldn't have paid much more. And do raise your hand if you've ever owned any form of The Body Shop White Musk?
Reminder: tomorrow is Fruity Friday! Wear something fruity, doesn't matter what, and it doesn't have to be a fruity floral. The following Friday, the 27th, will be Forgotten Friends Day — wear something you haven't worn in ages, or that you tend to forget that you own, or the like.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next six or seven weeks mapped out in advance.
I’m wearing Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude. I received a travel spray as a freebie in a trade, so the price was perfect! It’s certainly reasonable at full price and easy to find discounted, but I don’t know if I adore it enough to buy it anyway. We’ll have to see if and when it runs out.
Oh and — The Body Shop Satsuma was my high school scent of choice! Never owned White Musk or its family except in samples. And I do love a musk, white or otherwise.
I liked Sensuous Nude…I still think if they’d done a better bottle / packaging for Sensuous, it’d be much more popular than it is.
I supremely agree. The Sensuous pillar is one of my most-worn work scents and I still hide it in the back of my collection. The bottle does look slightly better in the colors for the flankers.
I also got a free small bottle of Sensuous Nude, from a friend! And I also think the bottles are really ugly. Somebody rebottle Sensuous Noir in a Tom Ford Private Collection flacon.
I so agree with you on that one.
I disagree about the Sensuous bottles. I find them simple and elegant and somewhat calming, they ‘feel good’ in the hand and they ‘work’ on my dressing table. I’ve seen many niche bottles far uglier than these that I’d never display.
Hi, Melissa, we’re scent twins today! I also chose EL’s Sensuous Nude edp as my SOTD. The hot, humid stormy weather of the past few days morphed into a chilly, gloomy, fall-like day today, and I needed a switch from a/c to a “blanket” in my scent. I have Sensuous Nude in edp, edt and body veil forms. The edt rebalances and highlights the lighter notes of the edp and is meant to be a transparent mist. I prefer the edp in cooler temps on pulse points only, the edt on a hot day spritzed with abandon. On me, Nude is a warm, creamy, coconutty/sandalwood/vanilla skinscent with just a hint of musk. The body veil is also wonderful, like a second skin, you need no other form of scent when wearing this.
I think the EL fragrances are priced right for what they are. Having said that, I always purchase mine either discounted or when there’s a good GWP, so I’m sure I didn’t pay the retail price.
No, never owned any form of The Body Shop White Musk. A strong musk note per se is a big no-no for me fragrancewise, so I avoid these kinds of fragrances.
That’s interesting, I should explore the EDT! The EDP and EDT versions of Prada Candy behave similarly — the scents don’t differ a ton but the EDT is creates a notably larger, more sheer bubble — and I think I prefer the EDT for that quality.
Wait no, not Candy — but now I can’t remember which is the one specifically I’m thinking of.
I like the edt very much, it’s less powdery, less musky. Sometimes the edp can be ‘too much,’ the edt isn’t.
Forgot to add I also love Satsuma and some of the other TBS scents, just am not a musk fan.
Estee Lauder Private Collection, all green and soapy-clean and aldehydic. It just spoke to me on this bright sunshiny morning.
Lucky you…we are not getting bright sunshiny here! Was up half the night from loud thunderstorms.
I would GLADLY trade you my sun for your thunderstorms! I love a good thunderstorm but we almost never get them where I live.
Done deal 🙂
I’ve been wanting to try EL Private collection for a while now, but I can never seem to find it in stores/EL counters
At my local department store (Macy’s) they have Private Collection and most of the classic Lauders hiding in a cabinet behind the counter. I really don’t know why they are not more easily accessible.
Trying Cologne du Maghreb for the first time. It’s INTENSELY citrusy and savory. First impression is that it smells more like a (very nice) room spray than a perfume, but we’ll see. (It’s not outrageously pricy at all but I wouldn’t personally spend this much on a cologne.)
I may have owned White Musk — I remember reading about it in Sassy. But I don’t think I “got” it. Probably also had Dewberry.
For whatever reason, looks like the Maghreb is $20 more than it was the first time around, 2 years ago. That seems like quite a hike, but may just be because it was on such a small scale last time (?)
Amouage Opus VIII – definitely too pricey for me
All of Amouage is too pricey for me! I’ve said it before here a million times, but the dumbest thing I *didn’t* buy was the original Ubar when it was $60.
For $60 I would buy Ubar too! I’d probably go up to $100 but though it is my favourite of the Amouges I have tried, it is still a bit too grandiose for my taste. Most strike me as quite somber and majestic which is not very ‘me’ :-p
I found the original way less grandiose than the current version…I liked it better.
Interesting! I thought that aspect of the perfumes was part of the Amouage style. And perhaps why I just wasn’t able to appreciate them as much as others. Well, aside from just having cheap taste 😉
I think their style has changed a great deal under Christopher Chong. The earlier scents were different.
I’m wearing Mythique from a new sample. I had tried it once before and decided it just wasn’t me but was curious to retry it. It’s gorgeous stuff but sadly still not me—something too insistently green and fresh about it for my taste. So I guess the price for the sample, at least, was just about right, since it saves me from wanting a full bottle.
I keep getting Mythique confused with Panache…Mythique was the one Angie loved & that I thought was pretty but didn’t need, Panache was the one I loved (and Angie probably didn’t).
I was underwhelmed with Mythique. The greenness you describe is off-putting to me too, and it lasts not at all. Like that Woody Allen joke: “‘The food here is terrible!’ ‘And such small portions!'”
It’s cool and drizzly here today, so it was a toss up between Safari and Habanita. Habanita won. I think the price I paid for it was just right – discounted tester online retailer. About $40 for 2.5 oz. I like my vintage decant for smokiness, but the current edp is very good also. I keep smelling familiar fragrance “friends” in Habanita: a little Vol de Nuit, a little Shalimar/Emeraude; a little AG Eau de Lavande; a little LV Tient de Neige…. funny how such a mixed bag just works for Habanita!
SOTD is Chanel Sycomore. Was feeling grumpy this morning, so I wanted a vetiver.
I know I have a sample of White Musk Libertine, just haven’t gotten around to trying it yet. I like the body butters from the body shop, current favorites being brazil nut and honey.
I think I read somewhere around these parts that somebody likes to put a refreshing scent in the refrigerator to add a little extra coolness when it’s sprayed. Tried it this morning with Bvlgari Green Tea. The experience was indeed refreshing, but I’ve hardly been able to smell myself since applying a few hours ago.
Might also try on some of my osmanthus samples (Parfums d’Empire and The Different Company), because I’m loving both right now. What is the collective take on those?
I like to keep a cucumber gel-formula eye cream in the fridge for that purpose. Great in the morning, double-great after a hot evening commute.
Hmm…might consider doing this too. Who knows, maybe all my beauty products will should be in the fridge until September. 😉 Anything to help cope with New York in the heat.
And I never had White Musk, but I did have a little bottle of Neroli Jasmin oil, which I adored….and sadly misplaced. It’s long gone now.
I used to keep some lavender water in the fridge–I’d spray myself down just before going to sleep on hot summer nights. Perfection!
Wearing EM Molecule 01. I used to own the original White Musk and also Ananya – way back in the day, the late 80s, I think it was. Back when you could get it in solid form – sort of like a chapstick. Still miss Body Shop’s Bergamot cologne. It was the nicest simple bergamot I’ve come across.
SOTD is Musc for Him Oil (Narciso Rodriguez). Since I got it free, the price is definitely right! It isn’t as in-your-face as the EDT version.
Today I took another dip in the untried sample box and came up with Morgane Le Fay “Green”. It’s not bad. It has a vague reference to the classic Herbal Essence scents of the ’70s which I, along with everyone else, can never figure out why they didn’t bring back considering the clamour for them. I don’t like my greens soapy, so this isn’t one I would buy. I’m guessing the samples cost $3 as I got it from Lucky Scent back when most of their samples were going for $3 each. At that price, it’s a deal.
I am wearing Sensuous Noir by Estee Lauder. I think the price is amazing. It smells like one of the high end niche fragrances.
I love The Body Shop fragrances but have never tried the White Musk. I love their Satsuma and their Grapefruit.
Loving my Cuir de Lancôme, x2s this week. Great power scent, and it is worth MUCH more than it’s currently selling for out on the web. I think I saw Ebay pricing it for under $50 for 50ml — sweet deal.
Haven’t tried The Body Shop scents, but plan to.
Wearing Noontide Petals today. I like the base better than the opening so I washed it down a little and now it’s lovely. Since it was a free sample, I have no opinion on pricing. If I love something, I’ll save the money and it’ll be worth it, but if I don’t like a scent then a $20 blind buy would be considered a waste of money
I’m wearing 31 Rue Cambon from a 5ml decant that cost me $16 on STC. That price is fine with me, and I’ll be placing another order soon as my decant is spent and I’m not quite ready to take the FB plunge yet…$16 is fine, $160 is ouch.
L’eau chic, parfums de Nicolai. I have the “deodorant spray” in a 100 ml bottle that was on sale for £10 at the London boutique last spring. I haven’t tried it in edt, but I think it is a perfect fragrance as it is. Makes me feel clean and good smelling all day, it lasts long but of course I spray with abandon from my large bottle. I would have payed more for it, had I known I was going to like it so much, but if it had cost more I probably wouldn’t have found out. So, price perfect.
Sampling Guerlain Muguet this morning. So pretty…. So expensive! Gorgeous bottle! I’m trying to justify the price, but am struggling. Struggling! I mean, really.
I have the original TBS White Musk, but don’t wear it so much anymore- maybe a good candidate for next Friday!
Oh, and I did buy White musk in high school, because the girl I wanted to be like wore it. It didn’t smell remotely as good on me, and after I had bought it, I realised that it was going to be obvious I was trying to copy this super cool girl. So I never wore it.
I’m trying a blind buy today: Jacomo #08. I read good things about it here and bought a bottle really cheaply the other day. It’s quite spicy so far and I’m not sure about wearing it in the heat, but I haven’t had time to make up my mind as yet.
I don’t think I’ve ever owned White Musk but I did have a Body Shop Moroccan Rose a couple of years ago. It was light and pleasant enough…just that.
Yesterday I asked about a decant site in the EU and Chandler b suggested First In Fragrance: I see they do samples, but not larger decants. I’m beginning to think that’s mission impossible here. But many thanks, the site is great!
I love 08, but I imagine that it might be better in cooler weather. Don’t give up on it.
I’ll take your advice, especially as you were one of the people who persuaded me to buy it! Indirectly I mean.
Companies that sell perfume bottles online really just offer samples so you can then buy a full bottle. Decant sites are a niche thing in themselves, and tbh, I haven’t heard of any outside the U.S. I’m in Australia, so it’s often just a case of if I want it, I just have to suck it up and pay the (often ridiculous) shipping :-/
And I think the Jacomo is great too 🙂 I only wear it in cool weather.
Also 2rista, have you tried the regular swapmeets/freebiemeetsetc on here and Perfume Posse? The perfume community is a very generous lot who will help you out if they can, and will often take non- perfume swaps in exchange 🙂
Yes! I’ve been the lucky beneficiary of a couple of freebies, one of which will definitely be a FB in the future. Haven’t tried Perfume Posse but will do so. BTW, in the end I loved Jacomo, the evolution is great. But I’m putting it away for cooler weather; it’s not for an Andalusian summer.
SOTD is Tokyo Milk Excess, from the Femme Fatale collection. I have been buying the majority of my new fragrances through ebay, and I never pay for shipping, and I rarely pay list price, so I feel I’m getting a bargain, especially so far with the Tokyo Milk things I’ve bought.
I also find some great deals on eBay, and I love the alert technology.
SOTD is Tom Ford Oud Wood, a tiny sample bottle I got a few weeks ago. It is lovely but not worth the price as it doesn’t last but a couple of hours. For the $$$ it should linger around MUCH longer. The salesperson was pushing me to buy it as she said it was being dis-continued. I corrected her and said, no it’s going over into his other line in a different color bottle. She didn’t seem happy with that news.
And as I type this, a loud thundercrack just lit up the sky. Last week was glorious, this week we’ve have over 5 inches of rain in 4 days. Southern MN is water logged and the crops are drowning.
Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet layered with Fragonard Eau Fatasque. I think the Penhaligon’s is a tad overpriced (for many of their scents. While a few are real standouts in terms of quality and longevity, in general I’m unimpressed with the women’s offerings).
Today, I layered The Body Shop’s Mango EDT and Coconut EDT. Cheap and cheerful! After being traumatized by a frag earlier this week, I’m playing it safe.
I chose my Fruity Friday scent days ago (It’s not from The Body Shop). I love fruit in my perfume, as long as it does not smell rotten, fermented, or too synthetic.
No. 5 Eau Premiere, from a free sample. I like! Thinking FB thoughts.
When I wear no.5 I find it wears me. No. 5 EP is hitting the spot.
Having fun contemplating tomorrow’s fume 🙂
Oh, right. Don’t have/never wore the body shop white musk, but loved Oceanus in high school.
Just bought Shea, and its nice for casual/bed time.
I worked at the Body Shop about a decade ago and Oceanus was by far my favorite!
And interesting, though the Shea butter turns sour on me, the body oil is lovely!
SOtD: Guerlain Secret Intention, which was a steal at $30 for the bottle. I like the green and tea in our heat and humidity.
I’ve never worn White Musk (just typing that word is almost as bad as the “b” word).
SOTD is Guerlain Vol de Nuit. I got a decant in a swap so the price was right but I am not sure that I care for it. Galbanum is a difficult note for me and green fragrances have never been my favorites.
To my knowledge I have never worn anything from The Body Shop (or Lush either). I make my own soaps and lotions so I never need to buy them.
Sorry it’s not working for you, but you smell gorgeous!
Wearing Patchouli 24, which on a cool, damp day is smelling like bonfire ashes rather than the cozy fireplace I was hoping for. Will save it for cool, bright days from now on! It was at my upper limit of what I can make myself pay for a perfume.
Ah, Body Shop perfumes – have yet to find a musk I like anyway much less one of theirs, especially since I still am holding the horrors of the Dewberry Years against them.
Oh yes. I remember the Dewberry Years. The HORROR! 😮
I love that you refer to that time as the Dewberry Years. I remember it well, and have a hard time believing they have good stuff now.
Coincidentally, my SOTD is Amouage Jubilation 25, my most expensive perfume (along with Gold). It is so incredibly fabulous that to me it is worth the price, especially since I found it online for almost half price (which is still a lot, I admit). My perfume collection has gotten so big now, though, that the other Amouages on my wish list will probably just be decants.
As to BS White Musk, I have had a bottle of the perfume oil forever and still love to use it as a base for other perfumes. I don’t wear it much alone anymore these days since I have SL Clair d’ Musc which I like better.
I do love Amouage. I’ve managed to wait for discounts. Love every minute of wearing them!
Beautiful sunny day here. Not too hot or humid.
SOTD is Tea for Two.
Hi friends! Still working on a SOTD but could use some advice on two fronts–
I just came across a set of five Fragonard minis at a thrift store for $37. I don’t know the line at all–anyone have a sense of whether this worth going for?
Also, I’ve just made plans to go to a tea tasting on Saturday, as a first date (fun!)…but it belatedly struck me: does this mean I really shouldn’t wear perfume?
Thanks, thoughtful perfume advisors! 🙂
(FWIW, the minis are Capucine, Eclat, Fragonard (signature, I presume?), Belle de Nuit and Ile d’Amour, abt 8mls each.)
That is an amazingly creative first date! It would be so hard not to wear discreet perfume. Tea tasting seems like an exercise in enjoying sometimes subtle scents, and I’d tend to vote no on fragrance for that, just as I would for a serious wine tasting…but perhaps something verrry low sillaged? Have fun and *do* report back 😀
Yeah I’m glad we’re going to do something interesting! Especially because sitting down to have long, personal conversations with strangers is also something I do professionally (sociology), coffee dates frequently make my brain click over into work mode–I end up feeling like, ‘Ok, my role here is just to keep you talking.’ Nice to have external cues reminding me, my role is just to enjoy myself!
But yes, it’s so hard to think of meeting someone without any perfume at all! I guess I should keep in mind that most civilians aren’t really paying attention anyway, but it still feels so odd to make that my first impression. Makes me want to issue a disclaimer: “This is probably the only time you’ll ever encounter me without perfume!”
I like the Fragonard line and wear it often (see my SOTD), though many perfumistas are”meh” about them.
Capucine is one of my favorites, it’s powdery and green, and I like it for the office. Eclat is a sweet gourmand. Fragonard remind me of Sung by Alfred Sung, it’s a crisp whit floral. Belle de Nuit was done as an imitation of J’adore, and I’ve never tried Ile d’Amour. All are stronger in the sillage department than they are in the longevity department.
Fragonard sells a similar 8ml set online for about $60
http://fragonard.com/parfums_grasse/perfumed-sets/women-s-collection-c-123.htm
so value-wise, that isn’t bad. But if I were you, I would just order, for $35, the set of 10 2ml minis. That way, you can try a ton for the same price.
Oh, thank you so much–so useful to know about the sample set. Yes for the money that’s definitely the better way to go for me! Not to mention, I’ve got a ton of untested samples, so I really should try to work through the backlog before I spend any money acquiring more! So holding off on this coffret and going for the sample set later is perfect.
I second the “no perfume” on the date. The scents and flavors of tea are so delicate that I think perfume would truly interfere. Enjoy your date!
So useful to hear you think so–I’m really not at all a tea connoisseur, so I’m already suspecting my palette may not be the sharpest. Probably best not to make things any more difficult!
Thirded. It sounds like a really fun date, I hope you have a great time.
Thank you! 🙂
Another vote for no perfume. The senses of taste and smell are so closely related that it would interfere. Use a nice shower gel so you don’t feel naked and enjoy what should be a really fun date!
Such a good call–I was only thinking about being able to smell it but yes taste as well would certainly be affected.
It is so funny though, that I totally would feel naked!
SOTD is Amazing Grace; I know, not in the perfumista realm of sophisticated! I had a stressful meeting early, and wanted quiet, pretty perfume. The price was right, I think it was about $30 for a big bottle.
Years ago I had lots of The Body Shop’s fragrance oils, and White Musk was one of them. I spent my meager pin money on those in high school, to the dismay of my parents, who thought my perfume obsession was a bit odd 😀 Be well.
Oh, have we discussed this? I really like Amazing Grace too. True that it’s not perfumista bait but for what it is, I think it’s really pretty. And having something on hand that’s really easy to wear is never a bad thing!
Interesting thought about whether or not to wear perfume to a tea tasting. I would imagine something smoky smelling (lapsang souchon-like) would add a deep basenote to the tea fragrances, and would enhance the experience. Of course, the very fact you’re wondering about it means you will apply sensitively lightly 🙂
Ooh interesting idea. You clearly know your tea! In fact that’s what made me suggest this tea tasting outing–I’m always so impressed with the NSTers tea knowledge, wish I could keep up! Thinking I may “go commando” 🙂 this time as I try to learn the “notes”, but I’m making a note of this suggestion for the next go-round, excited to get into the interplay of tea and perfume!
Hi, the above re fragrance for a tea tasting, was for you, CH. Whatever you decide, do enjoy the tasting. What a great event! Wearing Chanel LE Eau de Cologne today – wanted to revisit it after somewhat dissing it the other day. It was for free (sample from a lovely saleslady at the Chanel store in that huge mall in Dubai), but of course to buy it would be at a price, that imo is too steep for what it achieves: it is a well made cologne with not much longevity (for me). I like it more than the other day though: detect a pleasant pepper note.
Question re White Musk. It has pleasant memories for me from before Body Shops existed in South Africa. People would send you Body Shop wish lists when going overseas – often including White Musk. I own Libertine but have misplaced it – I remember liking it for being gourmandy and Turkish Delight like, but in a subtle way. Thanks so much for raising our consciousness with the SOTD days, Robin!
Ida, I remember the popular kids coming to school with those little pots of fruity lib balm (that travelling relatives brought back for them and their friends) and all getting instant status boosts! They were such highly coveted and enigmatic items to the rest of us, lol : D
🙂
So coveted, yes! 🙂
Yes…it’s like “Turkish Delight light” in a way.
SOTD is Crabtree and Evelyn Rosewater EDT. At $50.00 for 100 ML, I think the price is a little high, since it is a EDT and the lasting power isn’t great. However, the scent is lovely and the bottle is gorgeous, so I would probably buy again.
Today was Gucci edp- the original big brown chunky bottle. Can’t imagine why it was discontinued, it’s far better than so many expensive niche releases, IMO anyway 🙂
I do have an old bottle of White Musk. My mum bought it for me about 10 years ago, thinking that I was still ‘into’ the BS, but I havent been for about 20 yrs! Not since they stopped doing the ‘natural’ products like adzuki bean face scrub and the (not so natural but fantastic) perfume oils.
They are pretty much all I wore at 17, and I still have them. All still smell fine. Woody Sandalwood and Mostly Musk were my favourites, but there’s also Vanilla, Fuzzy Peach, Wood Musk, Rose Musk, and my sisters donated Annie and Oceanus.
Coco Mademoiselle, which is pretty darn cheerful. I can’t fathom why it’s a blockbuster perfume. It doesn’t seem special enough to inspire so much love.
Today my mad mix is the purse oil of Narciso Rodriguez For Her, layered with Tea Rose and spiced up with Omnia! Of those I think the NR was a little over-priced, something like $70 or so about 4 years ago. The Omnia I got at a discounter for a fair price but it is now more difficult to come by which is unfortunate since it is really nice for layering. Of course Tea Rose is like the bargain of the century: it was about $20 for 100ml a few years back. Its longevity and sillage is better than many scents that are about 15 times as expensive. It also captures the scent of a rose much better than the many many perfumes containing pricey rose absolutes and essences. For all their rare and expensive constituents these often only hint at rose in the most oblique fashion, lol!
Because of its strength though I do prefer to layer it. Musk in particular reigns it in and softens it.
Oh yes, I don’t own any Body Shop scents at present and have never owned their white musk perfume. I did however have a white musk shimmer talc powder that I won for something while I was working there. I didn’t really know what to do with it and think I gave it away after a few years 🙂
Ooh what a great mix! Yes the NR oil is steep–they have a reissue this year, which I thought about getting but I think it was like $170 for 100ml, and I didn’t like it remotely enough to justify that… but your blend sounds gorgeous, maybe I should have more thoroughly considered what kind of layering options it offered!
I think I’m anosmic to the actual NR musk oil, which is lucky, given the price 🙂
The one I’v got is the second one in this article:
http://perfumeshrine.blogspot.com/2009/03/frequent-questions-differences-between.html
Its described by some as mid-way between the music oil and the EDT but I have not done the comparison myself! It might be a waste using a really good musk perfume/oil for layering and it might make more sense to buy the Jovoy version, or perhaps the Body Shop one for using in this way. I wonder how much the quality of the musk would affect the final combined scent?
Music oil sounds so poetic, but I promise, it wasn’t intentional 😀
Oh, a halfway between the two would be nice–the EDT is a bit much for me but the pure oil is a total snoozefest, to my nose. In fact it’s got so little going on, I basically only smell the ambroxan (which, just as a side note, I’ve started to think is what always made Light Blue smell sour to me–longtime personal perfume mystery solved!)
I don’t know that it’s a waste to use it for layering tho! Whatever results in the nicest final experience is probably a good use! And FWIW I actually went on a hunt at one point to find a good musk to use for layering, and I’m not sure the Body Shop options live up to the task. Very pleasant on their own but didn’t have the depth I had in mind. I’d be interested to hear if you do try the Jovoy, though, that’s one of the ones I didn’t get around to.
I actually did have a bottle of the Jovoy but then felt guilty having it along with all my other pricey perfumes. It was before I became a layering junkie and any unused perfume made me feel absurdly guilty and so I gave it away!
I once did a side-by-side with Claire de Musc and the Body Shop versions. Side by side CdeM is very nuanced refined and has a wonderful prismatic quality. The Body Shop ones come off as coarse. I really like the effect of Claire de Musc and Iris Silver Mist together…
Still, I’m not entirely comfortable in Claire de Musc: it feels too radiant for me to relax in, lol! (And I’m not sure I would buy a Lutens just for layering, lol!)
Yes I know what you mean about Clair de Musc–so beautiful but for layering I was really looking for something darker. I wish the Kiehl’s musk didn’t turn so baby-powdery, otherwise I like that a lot.
Also, hilariously I’m just catching–we probably both mean Jovan not Jovoy? I am sure Jovoy musk would be nice though!!
Yes! Jovoy would be very nice, but at a not-nice price point, lol! I do like the Kiehl’s Musk as its warmer and more relaxing than the white musk variations. I don’t think it does the baby powder trick on me 🙂 I have a sample like it under L’Occitane’s Delice de Fleurs which I have, but which is a little too bright and sweet for me. If it works under a few more of my florals I may have a bottle in my future…
SOTD is Histoires de Parfums 1826 Eugenie de Montijo. The sale stuff I ordered from Urban Outfitters arrived yesterday. I got this in a travel spray, along with one of Vert Pivoine, for $5 each. Full price for these was $36 each, which seemed a touch high, but the travel sprays are 15ml, so I guess it’s really not that bad. This one doesn’t really have much sillage to speak of, but it’s soft and cozy and I like it. It kind of reminds me of the drydown of Etro Shaal Nur, but Shaal Nur is a bit sharper.
I also got a bottle of Lolita Lempicka Eau de Minuit because I like the original and the 100ml bottle was on sale for $30 (original $93). I kind of wonder what I was thinking there, because while I like both, I’m not entirely sure they are different enough for having both to make a lot of sense. We’ll see.
Today started out with Caterina de Medici which is just beautiful. Later on I refreshed with two spritzes of Le Terracotta. This arrived yesterday and is really interesting. Starts off very strong and tropical on me but calms into something soft but alive and full of jasmine and ylang ylang. I think it’s very different to Bronze Goddess but would be interested to know what others think?
I used to use loads of the Body Shop body butters and still like the smell of Almond and Shea although the actual cream can feel quite heavy sometimes! Fun recollections.
I agree Sophie, that Le Terracotta smells nothing like Bronze Goddess. BG is more coconut tanning oil and LT is more tropical flowers. Terracotta actually reminded me more of Lys Soleia and Songes.
But it is a big beautiful hit of tropical summer 🙂
Ah thanks-glad to know you find the same thing. I think they are both good, and am so glad you mentioned Songes as I was trying to place what it was reminding me of!
For the second day in a row I was running late to an appointment in the morning…so SOTD is the faint scent of what’s left over from the sea salt soap I used this morning. I can’t remember the brand but Kevin reviewed it here awhile back. It’s quite nice and perfect for this time of year.
My bad. It is Swedish Dream Sea Salt Soap and I thought it was reviewed by Kevin but it looks like it was just on his list for Father’s Day gift recommendations last year.
SOTD is the very pricey but utterly gorgeous Amouage Gold EDP.
I used to wear The Body Shop’s Dewberry and White Musk. I remember layering WM with L’Eau d’Issey, which somehow worked.
Today i was attempting to portray a capable adult through multiple meetings, and picked Bas de Soie, which I decanted from a pal… So both the scent and price were right. The damp, not yet summer day may be the perfect one for this, as today might be the first time it smelled cool and pretty on me (as opposed to on paper).
I’m wearing Lush Karma, the solid roll-up. I actually like this in warmer weather. The price is very affordable, probably why I got it as I’m not really a patchouli kind of gal, but nice for a change?
I had some on last night and can still smell it on the sleeve of my jersey. I really love its balmy dry-down. Whenever I get to this point I get the impulse to put more on to make that scent even stronger, but of course the top notes are much sharper so, alas, it never works!
I’m wearing LUSH today too, but mine is the Scent of Weather Turning. I love it. It’s been perfect for each day I’ve worn it, and with an excellent longevity. I think it’s at a great price point, and I will definitely buy a full bottle when this little sample is gone.
This one sounds glorious!
it is fantastic–I’d make you a decant, but I’ve only got about a sixth of a 2ML sample left. Get your hands on this one if you can.
Thanks Missionista to even consider it 🙂 It sounds like it works wonderfully for you so I will definitely look out. And of course I wish you a nice big bottle of this magic elixir!
I have The Smell of Freedom but I’m still ambivalent about it – as I am about The Breathe of God.
Guerlain Tonka Imperiale is what I picked because strangely for me, it seems to work well on humid summer mornings without overwhelming or being a sillage monster. So on a morning when I didn’t want to pry myself out of bed (I hate summer) it was uplifting and interesting while still being comforting.
I’ve owned TBS White Musk since my late teens or early twenties in one form or another. I really used to love their Japanese Musk but that one’s been gone for years. After receiving a sample of White Musk Libertine in a promo bag last year, I bought several of the line including the edp late this past winter and can’t get over how much I love it. The shower gel and body cream are excellent and while I don’t find the edp has much staying power, it was so inexpensive that I can reapply without worry. I will definitely be stocking up on it because I love its almost retro feel. It reminds me a bit of how my big sister smelled in the 80’s when I was “too little” to wear all those interesting perfumes.
I wore Tabac Blond today to signal to myself and the world that I might be the kind of girl who’d do barrel rolls with her biplane, the biplane that I’ll be buying as soon as I have the money to afford one, or a bottle of Tabac Blond, for that matter.
I’m enjoying a touch of AG Nuit Etoilée EdP this evening. It reminds me of the seasonal AG Noël parfum d’ambience that I love but can’t figure out how to use effectively. I’m happy with it, but since we are all perfume friends here, I must admit that Nuit Etoilée surpassed so many other desirables because of the beautiful blue bottle. Also, it’s showing up on discount sites (probably supplanted by the new packaging), so I finally succumbed.
The price was half what it used to be, and less than most of the new mainstream scents, such as Florabotanica, for example, so I can’t complain about that.
Oh no! The price was the only thing keeping me from a blind buy! *resistance falls through the floor* Reading about the pine-filled loveliness of that one about did me in, never mind the name and packaging. Now I have to go check it out on the discount sites! 🙂
I own the original White Musk, which I like, and bought the Libertine when our local Body Shop was going out of business. I had been eyeballing it previously, but the store closing price finally compelled me.
I like their White Musks; they are clean and somewhat powder-y, without being overwhelming.
Of course, nothing beats Jovan White Musk for the ultimate (and inexpensive!) musk thrill……
I also own a White Musk rollerball from Auric Blends perfume oils; everytime I wear it, I have assorted folks trailing after me to inquire about what I am wearing.
