Michael Jordan Flight ~ new fragrance

Michael Jordan Flight

Retired basketball star Michael Jordan has launched Flight, his (fifth? and) latest fragrance for men:

On shelves now, basketball legend, Michael Jordan introduces his latest fragrance venture – Flight for men by Michael Jordan. While today’s generation of basketball all-stars like Lamar Odom (Lakers) and Kevin Love (Timberwolves) have put their own spin on the fragrance game (both with fragrances that launched this past year)– this offering makes an iconic mark.

Every part of this fragrance reflects Jordan, down to the bottle design which emulates the souls of his rubber shoes.

The notes feature bergamot, orange blossom, lavender, sage, geranium, cedar, vetiver and sea moss.

Michael Jordan Flight is available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette ($35-45).

“The souls of his rubber shoes”?

Anyway, it looks like a latex butterfly.

Yeah. He must be rich as Croesus, but he clearly skimped on the PR for this one.

He also skimped on the proofreader. It’s “soles”, not “souls”, for goodness’ sake.

BVLGARI Black smells like rubber (as in tires) to me, but somehow, I think the copy writer, (who is silly, even by perfume copywriter standards) meant to imply that the scent evoked the grace and strength which Jordon famously launched from his incredibly popular sneakers. (Excuse me, rubber shoes).

Either that, or this a fragrance for men who have a fetish about the smell of gym shoes.
The bottle looked to me like one of those robots from the Real Steel boxing by android movie.

Awful, awful bottle– I thought it was a joke when I first scrolled past it. And yet, something tells me that consumers will buy this for the bottle alone. Mentioning the scent notes as an afterthought is perfect, because for all the contents matter, it could be filled with sport drink.

Yes, I can see somebody liking that very sporty look. But not me.

Who on earth are they marketing this bottle to? I know no grown men who would look at this and say, “Oh, yes. I must have this on my dresser!” LOL

It reminds me a lot of the look of various drugstore shaving products my husband uses — so perhaps it will just look familiar in a comforting way?
