Laura Ashley cotton dresses were and still are among my favorites to wear. I used to have No.1 and Dilys back in the ’90s. They were such lovely floral scents. Really hope they don’t dumb down these new ones.

I don’t know who has their license right now. I think they did those first scents in house, then they went with L’Oreal, then they were in a lawsuit with L’Oreal through around 2006, and now? So no idea what to expect.

Yay for a coffret. I wish more houses would release them. I was too young to try and/or appreciate the earlier Laura Ashley frags, but remember reading about them in an Anne Rice book, I believe, when one character was suggesting a ladylike and classy floral for another to wear. I’d love to smell those. ;)

Ditto on the coffret…and it’s not a bad price. Be even better if they were 15 ml!

I agree about Dilys – absolutely amazing. Last spring I bought a full 15 ml bottle of the parfum on Ebay for $23.00. Gorgeous and amazing scent at a wonderful price!

So glad to know there are other fans of these 2 fragrances! I still have the Dilys mini that came with my No.1 purchase. Beautiful bottle and probably among the first fruity florals before they became so mundane. I only open it up occassionally to take a whiff. Soooo pretty!

I really hope SOMEONE brings back No. 1. There was a girl that I was very smitten with who wore it and it fit her perfectly. Emma was also good (the name of another Laura A. fragrance). They also had a No. 2 – I was not as fond of that. Why can’t people leave good enough alone? I just know in the marrow of my soul that one day I will not be able to find the original Armani Pour Homme or Christian Dior’s Eau Sauvage. I still keep hoping someday…someday…Clinique will bring back Tailoring for Men, which I remember fondly from the mid-1980′s.

I think none of them were huge sellers because they never really got themselves established as a brand outside of the LA boutiques. And then they had this huge dispute with L’Oreal, and then they lost much of their worldwide fashion/textiles business.

Cute bottles! And Laura Ashley did do some nice things way back when, so these will definitely be worth a try when they get here.

Not at all sure where these will be distributed, sorry to say.

I remember liking Dilys in the 1990s. Love the coffret idea. To be honest, I thought that Laura Ashley had gone out of business. Did they close their US operations? They used to have a catalog and numerous shops – haven’t seen either in a long time.

    • Posted on 8 September 2011

Yes, they don’t really operate here — whatever you see in the US is licensed out.

I think a clever marketer could resurrect these fragrances because of the nostalgia element. So many people have fond memories of them from the early 80′s. The trick is finding an inexpensive way to distribute them…maybe with custom-targeted scent strips through the mail.

I am so digging those bottles……..

Another fan of No. 1 here. I remember I bought mine at the Laura Ashley boutique in Charleston, South Carolina while on vacation. I was there in 1988, so I got to see the stunningly gorgeous city and coastal islands before Hurricane Hugo did his own remodeling. :( Haven’t been back since, but that is still in my favorite vacation, even beating out The Bahamas and Maui! A sniff of No. 1 would bring me right back. *sigh* Ok, off to *bay. :P
