I just read that Elizabeth Taylor had passed away … she was a wonderful actress and a singular beauty, but I think I admire her most for her gutsy and groundbreaking AIDS activism. Does anyone remember the furor that arose when she posed for the cover of Vanity Fair, in a stunning gown and holding (very prominently) a condom? She was a dame, a broad, a woman, and a lady – the whole spectrum. Now I have all of her film roles going through my head; it’s almost impossible to believe that one person could be so beautiful and so talented.

I can’t believe she’s gone. She will be missed dearly.

P.S, I’ve never really gotten that commercial. Hahaha! I’ll miss you, Dame Elizabeth Taylor

I have always wondered if there isn’t a longer version of that commercial…

    An absolute icon has passed.

I sort of ridiculed her White Diamonds schtick, but she knew how to sell her beauty and glamour.

Her beauty was so astounding, it was sometimes hard to notice how hard she worked for charities, especially putting AIDS on the map as a disease of real people, not lepers.

So sorry to see her go. At least she has left us with wonderful films to remember her in. She wasn’t shy about lettting us see both the bold (Whose Afraid of Virginia Wolfe) and the beautiful (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof).

God rest her soul. She was one of a kind. I think of her every time I see one of my favorite quotes:

“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways – Chardonnay in one hand – chocolate in the other – body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO HOO, What a Ride”

That is one of the best quotes I’ve ever read. And hell to the YES!

What a fantastic quote! Thanks for that, it made me smile!

I had never heard that specific quote, but that is a perfect example of why I always admired her, beauty and talent aside. Cheers to a terrific broad. :)

A truly unforgettable woman. When I was in my teens, her beautiful face stared back at me from the covers of many magazines–every week, it seemed. She sure packed a lot of living into her 79 years. Rest in peace, Liz.

Such a bold, courageous, beautiful soul. And has there ever been anyone more glamorous than she? RIP Elizabeth Taylor, a true icon.

Agreed with everyone, she was glamour personified and extremely multi faceted. I will miss her spirit and her refusal to be pigeon holed. God bless her and her family.

She lived life to the fullest, didn’t she?

I remember seeing a picture of her with Richard Burton back in the late 60s – the personification of glamour.

I was never really a truly big fan of Taylor herself (altho I loved her Love Affair w/ Jewelry book), as I prefer past stars such as Bette Davis and Grace Kelley and Kate/Audrey Hepburn, but I do resoundingly agree that she was a bonafide living legend who pretty much defined that golden era of Hollywood. Being a classic movie fan, I do mourn the fact that yet another has left us (Tony Curtis recently, and Paul Newman a while ago). There’s just not that many left now, is there? :(

    RIP Elizabeth Taylor.

Passion for Men (what an apropos name for her men’s fragrance)
is a surprisingly good amber-based woody oriental.
I bought it on a whim years ago @ TJMaxx expecting it to be meh, and I find myself wearing it often. The women’s was like a toned down version of Poison, that I liked also.
White Diamonds seemed like a big perfume stew- too many notes, trying too hard.

    RIP lovely lady.

It meant a lot to me, growing up a non-blonde in a land full of of them, to see her black hair and lush, unruly body on the screen and in the magazines. She was no longer young by the time I found her, but she was always a force to be reckoned with.

Bless her heart <3. I credit her for opening my eyes to classic movies as a girl- stuck on the country with nothing to do and nothing to watch but Raintree County- LOVED it.

    Godspeed, Elizabeth….

Such a beautiful, wonderful woman. I am an HIV counselor and the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation gave tens of thousands of dollars to my local AIDS Foundation. She didn’t just raise awareness – she raised money that went directly to patient care and she will be sorely missed.
