Victoria’s Secret Dream Angels Heavenly Flowers ~ new perfume

Victoria's Secret Dream Angels Heavenly Flowers Eau de ParfumVictoria's Secret Dream Angels Heavenly Flowers Fragrance Mist

Victoria’s Secret has launched Heavenly Flowers, a new limited edition flanker to Dream Angels Heavenly:

Inspired by the fresh peony heart of Dream Angels Heavenly, America’s favorite fragrance, Heavenly Flowers is juicier and more enticing with a touch of luscious fruit and a blend of sun-splashed blossoms.

Victoria’s Secret Dream Angels Heavenly Flowers is available in Eau de Parfum ($49, shown above left, and the site currently says it is 250 ml but that seems likely to be a mistake) or 250 ml Sheer Fragrance Mist ($22, shown above right).

Hmmm, Dream Angels Heavenly is “America’s favorite fragrance”, eh? I wonder how they determined that…by sales figures? I’ve never smelled any of the VS fragrances of the past decade (although, if they are so popular then I’m sure I have…)

You’d be surprised how well Victoria’s Secret perfumes sell. I’ve never worn anything they offer, but my sisters do as well as my brother’s girlfriend and numerous friends of mine.

I think that as perfumistas sometimes we find it difficult to believe that what we’d deem ‘cheaper’ fragrances as being wildly popular, however that’s also because we seek out the extraordinary.

Most of the fragrances I find everyone around me wearing are the Victoria’s Secret and B&BW fare. The more stylish of my friends still stick to the latest mainstream offerings such as Lola.

klytaemnestra, my comment was not about the relative cheapness or stylishness of whatever of VS perfumes versus luxury or niche brands. i was simply wondering how they determined VS DHA is “America’s favorite fragrance.” i know that people wear VS fragrance & BB&W fragrances. :)

They’ve been saying that for years, and I have no idea how they calculate that. Might be true, might not. Certainly it never appears on any best-selling lists elsewhere, like NPD’s, but that makes sense since they only include department store sales.

uh huh, that’s exactly what/why i was wondering. i’m thinking perhaps it’s all a part of the americana-sexiness they try to sell. yay conformity! ;)

So far as I know, there is no independent agency that figures out best sellers across the board , which is a shame. NPD (as I understand it — I could be quite wrong!) only includes department stores, but not things like online discounters or independent chains like VS.

That bottle reminds me of Chloe Narcisse. There’s a fragrance I had forgotten about.

The box is cute. I’m just guessing here, but I would imagine that would be the most impressive thing about it.

The box is cute, and so is the bottle for the mist. Odd that the bottle for the mist is so much cuter than the EdP…

Oh, that’s body mist? I guess for some reason I thought it was lotion.

I have yet to try any of the Victoria Secret line. In fact, I have yet to see one of their stores around. I wonder if I’m missing out on something wonderful. *ponders thought*

Gosh, there stores are so ubiquitous here…for some reason I think it’s cool to never see one, LOL!

This is one of the vaguest scent descriptions- “luscious fruit, sun-splashed blossoms”, I mean, that could mean anything. Not one single note listed. It could be Kiwi and Violets, or Carnation and Melon, or any of a million combinations.
I have a bad feeling about this one for some reason, which is a shame, because I really did like the last two heavenly flankers… heavenly kiss was one that i got a lot of compliments on.

Their online descriptions are always vague. Don’t know why.

I think one of the major selling points for VS fragrances is that the price is between $25-$50 on average. VS is how I started wearing perfume in high school, but I haven’t really stuck with them unless they give away beauty products for free with a purchase; I suspect I’m allergic to some of the ingredients they use. Considering that most of America still gets most of their cologne and perfume collection through Christmas gifts, and the scents are generally pleasing, I don’t doubt that they sell great numbers of every release.

But let’s be honest . . . their approach is kind of the fast food-oriented. Or super consumer impulse oriented, if you will.
    - Fast food: low priced food, made quickly, very fatty, very bad for you, lots of artificial ingredients
    - Some cheap perfumes: low priced, made quickly or as a slightly re-formulated flanker, very strong or very weak (requires excess spritzing), may cause headaches (as can any other fragrance), more likely to have artificial ingredients

I’m not hating on anyone that loves VS or fast food value menus, I’m just making a point. VS sells a lot of perfume. McDonalds sells a lot of hamburgers. It’s one of those things.

Sure, although you could argue that most mainstream perfume brands are, in fact, fast food.

In case there’s general curiosity, Euromonitor’s top perfumes worldwide:

    Chanel no. 5
    Aqua di Gio
    J’Adore
    Arabian Oud
    Coco Mademoiselle
    Le Male
    Ck One
    Chance
    Hugo
    Angel

As for US brand shares, here’s E’s list:

    Estée Lauder
    Avon
    Chanel
    Coty Coty
    Calvin Klein
    Giorgio Armani
    Elizabeth Arden
    Ralph Lauren
    Victoria’s Secret

(I’m at work so this is counting as research…)

      Posted on 7 April 2010

Not 100% sure, but I think Euromonitor works like NPD: they’re essentially counting department store sales and nothing else. So in other words, no way to know how VS scents fit into the picture.

        Posted on 7 April 2010

Oops…I see they do list VS at the end, so I guess I’m wrong, LOL…never mind!

Most of us “mainstream” people, don’t ever really think about there being a niche line. Most people only see what’s available- unless of course, you love scent and start looking around- like me.
Even my sister who doesn’t care for much likes Heavenly. It is a nice warm peony and musky, that even I like…it smells….elegant, The body cream is decadent.

Are these the cheesiest bottles around in 2010? Can make it more cheesy? I look at it and feel like I had eaten 1 kilo of Nutella with honey and caramel. Bleah!

I’m not averse to some VS perfumes, but I tried this one the other day and wasn’t loving it. Reminds me of Clinique Happy In Bloom.
