Support Scent ~ new fragrance

Support Scent

Support Scent is a new fragrance developed by Kit Cosmetics to benefit Guide Dogs Australia:

A fresh, unisex fragrance with the added feel-good factor, big time. This pocket-sized fragrance features uplifting notes of citrus and exotic fruits, a floral heart and a warm, woody base. A hint of boldness makes it a pleasure to wear and easily recognisable by the blind and vision impaired.

An uplifting fragrance that for the first time lets the vision impaired truly sense your support. Made in association with Kit Cosmetics, Support Scent has been created to raise social awareness and financial support for Guide Dogs Australia. A Guide Dog restores mobility, returns independence and ends the isolation from society that can so easily occur. It’s a vital service that receives no government funding. Like a Guide Dog, Support Scent lets the vision impaired be part of the community, by letting them know support is all around them.

Support scent is $5 (AUS) for 2 ml Eau de Toilette; all proceeds go to Guide Dogs Australia. Matching body and home fragrance products are also available. (via kitcosmetics, with many thanks to Vinery for the link!)

I suppose taking a peek at my overflowing dressing table would indicate I don’t have *any* trouble recognizing or differentiating between scents, never mind this one in particular. :D I’m surprised they don’t have a doggie perfume given they seem to be quite trendy these days and it would make for a better tie-in, imo. But it is a good cause. There’s so much that goes into operating and maintaining a good guide dog training facility that I’m sure every penny helps.

Perfumes for dogs are trendy, but doubt they sell as well!

Dog ‘perfumes’ don’t sell well at all, but the sprays/spritzers with natural oils are big sellers. I work in the pet industry (having switched from fragrance/cosmetics). The biggest sellers are sprays with neem, lavender and citrus oils that are natural bug repellants and have ‘pleasant’ , organic or organic/marketed fragrances. Also really popular are skin-conditioning fragrance sprays with natural moisturizing properties/oils for sensitive skin and coats.

Anyway, this is a great idea. I bet it will be a nice seller for those who care.

Thanks to Vinery — I’d never have seen it if she hadn’t sent the link.

Yeah, this is great. I would buy it just to support the cause. I think the tie-in is smart. Almost nothing is marketed with differently-abled individuals in mind; and our sense of smell is so important, yet largely ignored by the “normal” population as an integral part of perception.

Thanks for posting this, Robin. I hope all Aussie perfumistas will head over to Kit or Myer and pick up some of this! Another interesting current initiative from Guide Dogs:

At this year’s Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS) Guide Dogs Victoria will be unveiling a new and innovative way to demonstrate to the public the way in which people with vision impairment can interact with the outdoors – a sensory garden. From fragrant blooms, tactile foliage, the soothing sound of a water feature to interesting surfaces under foot, a sensory garden is a unique way for anyone to appreciate the great outdoors.

vinery, too bad I’m here in Michigan. I’d love to visit such a place. I do have a great time shopping my local greenhouses or farmers market and picking out plants that feel interesting or have lovely fragrances. That’s part of why I’ve been looking into heirloom plants; a lot of work has gone into grafting plants together for popular yet unique visuals, but a lot of the more fragrant varieties haven’t been so fortunate experiment wise. It was also lots of fun teaching the twins to get about the yard with their eyes closed, relying on touch and the different smells (herb garden, lilac bushes by the fence, damp cement from the rain and hyacinths blooming in the front bed) to help them figure out where I was leading them. It’s just old hat to me sometimes and I take for granted how very much I use scents each day, and a garden made for those of us whose sense of sight isn’t the best would be a true delight. :)
