I have *always* heard Canoe pronounced ‘kah-noh-eh’ (a bit more ‘acute’ than ‘eh’, of course). My mother used to wear it. That’s how it’s pronounced in France. I had always assumed the name was in fact ‘Canoë’ (that’s how the word is spelt in French), but the umlaut didn’t appear because capitals weren’t accented (in the old days – now they mostly are).

The hilarious thing is, except for maybe the scene with the gambling, all the scenarios in the top ad could be easily replaced by a child.
The second one was pretty boring, save that one-piece, which is really nice.
Totally!! And hard to tell if that is purposeful — I couldn’t decide.
I am, apparently, and “after the jump” pronunciator. As in, I don’t say “Kah-noo-aeiy,” but like something I might paddle around a lake in.
I noticed the kid stuff, too; my vote is purposeful.
I go with the after the jump pronunciation too, but gosh, the first one is WAY funnier.
Isn’t it though? Now I dream of going to France, and enquiring about the possibility of renting a kah-noo-ay.
What struck me was, “from Fraawnce.” Like something I heard Robert (Ro-Bair) from Days of Our Lives say about a hundred and two years ago.
Funny, I watched the first one and thought: “Didn’t they pronounce this like the English word ‘canoe’ in the ads and not ‘can-oh-ay’?”
Then I watched the second one and totally remember girls in junior high making fun of and mimicking the ad: “C – Come on over… A – ALONE!…” HA!
I never heard the first pronunciation before either. It’s great fun though.
Gosh, when I was younger, I totally loved Dana Canoe, now I’m embarassed
Gosh, why? (honestly I can’t remember what it smelled like, but these commercials are awesome)
Another Canoe-inspired commercial from YouTube. This will really float his boat

I watched several of those!! Very fun.
That’s hilarious.
Cute ads!
