The L’occitane may be with a smell, but I have a feeling I will find it a bit too light and simple like I do most of their stuff. I LOVE the smell of Honey and Lemon EDT but it is just so close to the skin that I’m pretty sure it is not noticable at all.

They do a cherry blossom of one sort or another every year I think — and yeah, they’re usually light & pretty & sweet.

Oooh, being a DC resident, I get so sucked into the ‘cherry blossom’ fever that occurs every spring. Can’t wait to give this new L’Occitane scent a sniff!

    • Posted on 18 January 2010

Yeah! I live in the DC area too!

      • Posted on 18 January 2010

Although to add to that I must say that I have never noticed a smell coming from the cherry blossom trees. I always assumed that anytime you saw a “Cherry Blossom” fragrance that it is more like the smell of the “idea” of a cherry blossom, like Kenzo Amour for poppies.

I grew up in DC. It used to be much easier to go see the cherry blossoms — last time I tried, too packed with crowds!

      • Posted on 18 January 2010

I almost never go downtown, but there are lots of cherry blossoms planted all over my parents’ neighborhood in Bethesda.

Kenwood? Just guessing, I’m sure there are other places, but that’s what comes to mind.

          • Posted on 18 January 2010

No, but I heard they have great cherry blossoms there. I don’t think there is a name for where they live (and I grew up). It is fairly close to NIH.

            I know that area well.

BTW, I think you might want to check your profile: your name links to something that looks like it should be a URL, but it has an @ sign in it, as though it’s a login?

I saw the cherry blossoms the past 2 years. They are quite nice, but i do hate the crowds. I probably wont go this year.

Nothing says rock n roll like fruit. (Although there was a Ramones show I was at–Bumbershoot in Seattle– where there was a lemon fight at the end of the show. I’m pretty sure that was a unique circumstance, though.)

Speaking of ungodly fruit scents, I smelled a scent strip of the new Sarah Jessica Parker (I think it was called NYC?) the other day. I’ve never bought a strawberry-scented car air freshener, but I’m pretty sure that that’s what it smells like. I really hope she is able to do her unisex scent.

SJP NYC sounds terrible, so won’t be surprised if it is. Shame.

That scent strip for SJP NYC was stinky — very reminiscent of car freshner. I saw the ad and immediately thought “Bond #9 ain’t gonna like this!” Wonder if Bond will sue over this too…

Being one who enjoys fruit scents if they’re done well, I want to give the Roc- n-Rebel and SJP frags a try. I love Balkis, Peche Cardinal and Sublime Balkis, so I might like these.

There was a Cherry EdT which was a fruitier flanker to the usual Cherry Blossom from L’Occitane this past holiday season, and while it is pretty, the staying power’s far from tenacious. I just try to buy their perfumes on sale so I don’t feel so bad about the minimal lasting power.

We planted a Japanese cherry blossom tree to celebrate our one year anniversary in our first house, and while it is absolutely beautiful in the spring, the flowers don’t smell like anything but that subtle green scent of all plants. But it’s so gorgeous I don’t mind. ;)

They don’t usually have much staying power, it’s true. I didn’t mind until their prices got so high.

Yes, they, TBS and C&E have gotten quite inflated for what they are in terms of product, hence why I usually only shop the sales. What I have tried of L’Occitane is good quality, it’s just also really pricy and not easily justified when I consider other perfumes etc. I’d like to buy for less. $25 for 3.4 ounces of rapidly fading edt is much easier to take than $50 or more. I’ve just ordered a Neroli edp purse spray set for half off and hope it lasts a bit longer than their edts, though for what I paid, it won’t be too terrible if I have to reapply more than usual.

The L’Occitane edps seem to last much longer on me than the edts. Labdanum de Seville lasts all day on me, whereas I had to reapply Bergamot Tea often and lavishly.

will probably buy this for my MIL for her birthday. I have bought her the regular EdT, the shower gel (twice) and the lotion (twice). She loves it. I would like it too, but since she wears it, I can’t bring myself to.

The only L’Occitane I’m interested in right now is the Labdanum edp from their VOYAGE EN MÉDITERRANÉE line. They don’t seem to have a travel size of this one online and I don’t live very near a L’Occitane. Has anyone bought or sniffed this one? I’m interested in any opinions/descriptions. :)

Kevin tried it and was not impressed, but I haven’t sniffed it yet. They did have travel sizes at the beginning, but they sold out really quickly.

I really like the Labdanum de Seville – I tried and bought it within 15 minutes. I usually try and wait for the drydown before I commit to something, but I was with my mom and we were getting ready to leave, so I just went ahead and bought it.

It’s a nice, spicy warm scent, with a resin-y drydown. It says that it has vanilla in the drydown and that may be what gives it warmth, but I don’t smell VANILLA. It actually reminds me of 31 Rue Cambon, but much less complex. I don’t know if it’s actually worth $66, but I’m not sorry that I paid that much. It’s too bad that they aren’t still carrying the minis – I got one free with my purchase and it’s adorable, plus perfect for giving something a thorough try.

Ooh.. it looks like they do have the minis

Cynthia, thanks for the great review, and thanks for checking the site — I swear those were sold out at some point and I never looked again!

I checked the site on a whim – and didn’t see it. For some reason, I searched a different way and it was there. It looks like the Neroli travel sets are back, too – I tried to buy them over the holidays and they were sold out and now it looks like they’re back, so I don’t know what’s going on with their site.

Oh! Thank you, CynthiaW! Thank you too, Robin, for Kevin’s review. I trust his nose but I’ve found CynthiaW and I have agreed on quite a few scents in the past. Plus at $10 how can I go wrong? This will only feel like a little splinter to my credit card. :)

What a shame! Seriously doubt this will be cedar-heavy though.

I tried today Wild Cherry, it was near Fleur de Cerisier, which was not the last year Cherry Blossom – I got lost. I like it for its joyful heart, in this gloomy February. It is sweeter than the previous Cherries and frutier, less powdery.
Anyway, I can never go so far with L’Occitane as to buy a bottle. Their fragrances are better when I regard the bottles in the store. When applied, they change like a cameleon in bad mood.

Thanks so much for the description, I still haven’t smelled it. And I always enjoy trying them but I never buy them either!
