Roxana Illuminated Perfume Chocolate Natural Perfumes ~ new fragrances

Roxana Illuminated Perfume has launched six new natural chocolate perfumes in solid format, and plans to release more before Valentine’s Day:

A decadent and sensual delight for the senses has been debuted by Roxana Illuminated Perfume. Inspired by the South American seed of the Theobrama cacao tree, also known as The Food of the Gods, Roxana has created a series of Natural Solid Perfumes based on the love elixir Chocolate.

Creamy, luxurious unguents in a botanical chocolate base made with Scharffen Berger 99% cacao, cocoa butter, organic cocoa powder and theobroma cacao extract from South America. The completely natural formulation also contains unfiltered beeswax, jojoba seed oil, infused vital plant materials and botanical fragrance accords.

Figure 1: Noir ~ “Like its edible counterpart, this chocolate is deep, dark and mysterious with a strong musk note.”

Figure 2: Cerise ~ “Succulent cherry weaved with a base of rich chocolate.”

Figure 3: La Forêt ~ “A dense conifer forest meets an ocean of chocolate.”

Figure 4: L’Orangerie ~ “Mouth watering citrus in a base of rich chocolate.”

Figure 5: Bois de Chocolat ~ “Smokey woods and chocolate.”

Figure 6: Épices ~ “Spice, a hint of vanilla and chocolate.”

The perfumes can be found at the Roxana Illuminated Perfume store at Etsy, and are $15 each for 5g; gift sets and samples also available. (via press release)

I don’t think I want to smell like chocolate, but these are adorable! Maybe the kids need them for Valentine’s Day.

I don’t like chocolate or cocoa notes in perfume either. Ergo, not buying *anyone* these, as cute as they are.

Daughter (she who dislikes nearly everything I wear: “too sweet,” “too perfumey,” “too WEIRD, Mom,” “I hate to tell you, but that smells like dirt,”) and everything her peers wear (“too fruity,” “marshmallow bomb,”) would not wear this. Her new fave? Carnal Flower. Pick my jaw up off the floor.

Oh, I like chocolate perfumes every so often. But of course it depends on the perfume.

Hmm. These look kind of neat, but I think I have a disconnect somewhere about smelling edible. I would try them though, if I came across them.

Oh, I don’t mind edible scents at all, so long as they aren’t too sweet.

good point! compared to the DKNY candy apple stuff, these sound downright awesome.

hmmm , I don’t know about these…I love to EAT chocolate (magical cure for all ills) but the only chocolate note in perfume I’ve liked so far is Iris Ganache (which always comes out Irish Ganache) And at least on me the chocolate note is subdued in that…..entire fragrances worked around a pile of chocolate? Oy, I’m feeling a little queasy.

I like Serendipitous, and Chocolovers. And probably other chocolates I’m not thinking of right now.

Chocolate coniferous forest? Now there’s a combination I’ve never seen before. Color me intrigued!

that sounded the best of the lot to me as well.

Yikes, really? To me, pine + chocolate sounds like a recipe for nausea.

        • Posted on 12 January 2010

          You ‘n me both.

It could be nauseating, but it might just bring something new to the table. Chocolate has a dusty incense like quality that might do well with pine. I guess when pine is involved, I’m an eternal optimist.

something like pine might have enough ooomph to cut the sweetness of the chocolate. and yeah, where there’s pine, there’s hope!

And maybe it’s not pine, but balsam…

I like the sound of that one too.

The “sea of chocolate” reminded me of that Hershey’s ad with the people swimming in chocolate. I guess if they were at the beach in the Pacific Northwest.

Have to say that none of these really appeal to me, either, after Angel.

I love chocolate but not chocolate fragrance.I think the only one I really liked was Eau de Charolette. These look so cute and affordable I like that its natural thats a huge plus.Looks like an adorable gift.

      Charlotte is another good one.

These sound [& look] enticing to me. I get the impression that the chocolate notes will be dark, bitter – not milk chocolatey sweet. After seeing the ad for the DKNY cloyingly sugary new scent, these seem downright sophisticated. The only scent I’ve tried with a chocolate note is Covet, & it’s not something I wear often, but I do like it.

I’ve long been on the hunt for a *bitter* chocolate scent with little or no sweetness. I would love to layer it with tobacco and/or leather. Any recommendations would be most appreciated.

Hard to find — I don’t know one.

    • Posted on 12 January 2010

All of these chocolate solids are bitter chocolate, and are lovely! They are not foody at all.

I highly recommend getting the sampler if you are on the hunt for a not-sweet chocolate. I think they would layer beautifully with tobacco or leather!

Borneo 18-whatsit is the only one that I know comes close. It has that unsweet, patchouli-powdery thing going on that translates as high-octane 75% bitter chocolate. Actually it’s even closer in smell to cocoa *powder* (alternatively known as Dutched chocolate, I believe).

Incidentally, it’s also one of the only fragrances that feature chocolate that I can stand at all. Suffice it to say I won’t be seeking this set out – even apart from the chocolate issue, it feels a teensy bit gimmicky, no?

You do hear good things about Roxana’s perfumes, though. They LOVE her stuff over at PST. I’ve been thinking about sampling Q and Vespertine.

    • Robin
      Posted on 12 January 2010

She does make little tiny samples of all the solids.

You have me doubly intrigued. I see she has a sampler of 4 available for $15. I’m thinking of taking the plunge…

I would love to hear from anyone who has tried any of her line. They are mostly solids which is not my preferred fragrance state. I got two crazysticks from Crazylibellule and the Poppies, Tamara Charleston and Jeanne Voyage. I liked Tamara alright, but I can hardly smell Jeanne at all. So now I am afraid to order un-sniffed solids because they may just not be potent enough for me.

    • Robin
      Posted on 12 January 2010

Solids tend to have less sillage, but should not necessarily be any less potent. But she does also make liquid perfumes.

I’ve generally had little luck with fragrance solids. But I own Roxana’s Cimbalom (formerly BB Balm), which has very good projection and longevity on me.

I happen to be a fan of her work–Vespertina is my favorite liquid fragrance so far.

So I’d say it’s worth getting sample(s) if her frags sound interesting to you.

      • Posted on 12 January 2010

I like the sound of Aroura and Lyra so I may try some samples, yes.

My experience with synthetic chocolate was spoiled by the ubuquituous puffy scented stickers of the 80′s. My exceptions are Angel and Covet (which never smelled chocolate-y to me).

I do however love the chocolate notes in Venezuelan coffee (which has no actual chocolate in it).

    • Robin
      Posted on 13 January 2010

This is a natural perfume — so no synthetics used.

They sound great, worth a try. I hope they will come overhere. I tried van CSP Amour de Cacao, but that smelled to me like burned sugar/candy, Montale Chocolate Greedy smelled like dark chocolate, but unfortunately the lasting power was very short. I would take Angel, when it would be not so heavy and when there would be not so much patchouli in it.

It’s a small indie brand, so don’t think you’ll see it.
