Beyonce Heat ~ new perfume

Beyonce Heat fragrance advertBeyonce Heat perfume bottle

Beyoncé Knowles will launch her debut scent, Beyoncé Heat, in February under the tag line “Catch The Fever”. According to a Coty Beauty spokesperson,

We will explore all of the different sides of Beyoncé with future fragrances, but Beyoncé Heat is meant to be the enduring classic. We think this scent will re-energize the celebrity category.

Heat was developed by perfumers Claude Dir and Olivier Gillotin; the notes include red vanilla orchid, magnolia, neroli, blush peach, honeysuckle nectar, almond macaroon, crème de musk, sequoia milkwood, tonka bean and amber.

Beyoncé Heat will be available in 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Parfum ($39-$59) and in matching body products. The dedicated website for the fragrance, readytocatchthefever, is live now. (via wwd)

I thought she was Sasha fierce now? Anyway, the bottle is nice looking. Kinda like a decanter filled with a tequila sunrise inside. I hope she didnt get the idea for it after smelling her own breathe like P Diddy did with I am King. I heard she has a bit of a halitosis problem. haha.

      I don’t know anything about Beyonce…

    • Bee
      Posted on 18 December 2009

that’s probably the point, sasha fierce is her second persona, so that’s the next flanker coming up, curious about that briefing :-)

  3. Posted on 18 December 2009

I actually like the sound of this , with all those creamy notes in there…So let’s see , the line of scents will consist of :
    Heat
    Cold
    Wind
    Rain
    Sunshine
    Fog
    Thunderstorm
    ………………………………………………….ad infinitum…?

So they haven’t set their goals *too* high – they’re just going to create an enudring classic (and then “future” frgrances, which will not be made to last, apparently), they’re going to rejuvinate celebrity fragrances, and perhaps sell gajillions in an economy that is watching mass market fragrance drop like a stone.

    • Robin
      Posted on 18 December 2009

LOL…I read that as “we’ve already got the first flanker planned”

  5. Posted on 18 December 2009

I think the bottle’s pretty – but the notes sound waaaay sweeeeet.

Does anybody else find it a little creepy that they’re going to “explore all the different sides of Beyonce’ “? Eek. (She’s got a terrific voice, she’s beautiful, I don’t like her music – that’s all I need to know. I don’t want a close-up of her elbow.)

    • Robin
      Posted on 18 December 2009

LOL…I would not get too worried. I’m sure what they’ll explore will mostly be the commercial possibilities.

Have never heard her sing except in perfume commercials. She does have a nice voice.

      • Posted on 18 December 2009

Of course you’re right on the commercial possibilities. The wording just struck me as weird.

        • Daisy
          Posted on 18 December 2009

personally I was thinking how I really didn’t want to explore any sides of her at all !! Not that I have anything against Ms. B in particular….it’s the whole “celebrity adulation culture” that pushes one of those important looking ‘red buttons’ in my brain….ba-boom! with mushroom cloud smoke coming out both ears….

      YES. CREEPY.
It sounds to me like she’ll be dissected [insert mental image of a frog pinned to a board] to serve as inspiration for the upcoming flanker parade. Possibly cryogenically preserved afterwards.

      Posted on 18 December 2009

Well the next flankers: upside, downside, frontside, backside footside… ;-)
There are so many new celeb fragrances at the moment. Don’t want to know who’s next.

yeah I thought the mariah carey line was a bit like that…lots of fuss over the first one and how it represented her etc and then others come out…and dissapear as was the case for the 2nd luscious pink and the gold M!!!

    Posted on 18 December 2009

((sigh)) I have no comments on the fragrance, but why do all perfume ads have to look like Playboy spreads? Why do they think that will appeal to women?

    • APassionateJourney
      Posted on 18 December 2009

Compared to most scent ads these days, this one looks very tame. I was actually kinda mad she didn’t get a little more naked.

I think they show risque women ads because the women will buy the scent for the bottle or scent alone, but they want their boyfriends/Husbands to go out and buy it for them. Ads like this will get their attention

    • Robin
      Posted on 18 December 2009

It must appeal to many women, or they wouldn’t do it, right? Personally I think it’s less to appeal to men so they’ll buy it for women — more because a huge percentage of women wear perfume specifically to attract the opposite sex.

    • Zeezee
      Posted on 18 December 2009

Don’t get me started on advertising. I think Robin nailed it, though: it’s the sort of Roxie Hart-ish sentiment of “Woman want to look like her, fellas want to go out with her”. Trite and insulting my intelligence, but hey.

      • miss kitty v.
        Posted on 18 December 2009

I think there’s also the insinuation of “buy this and you’ll be just like her.”

    • Joe
      Posted on 18 December 2009

Speaking of risquè ads, I’ll be happy when I stop seeing that soft-core writhing/moaning YSL Parisienne television spot.

It’s cold and dreary here today, which puts me in the mood for something kinda sweet and yummy—I think words like “nectar” “almond macaroon” and “creme de anything” are strangely appealing. However, you all know I have a problem with celebre-scents…..makes me want to not like it! (there’s a priniciple in there somewhere.)

    • Robin
      Posted on 18 December 2009

With you on the creamy — it’s freezing here.

      • Daisy
        Posted on 18 December 2009

Strangely enough—even though it’s the same temp inside as it is year-round…..knowing it’s brrrrr cold and windy outside makes me slog down copious amounts of hot tea….I fairly swish. well, at least I’m hydrated!

        • boojum
          Posted on 18 December 2009

It may be the same temp, but if it isn’t the same relative humidity, it really doesn’t feel like it. It’s not too bad here…in the 20s, but it was bitterly cold earlier in the week.

    • parfumliefhebber
      Posted on 18 December 2009

    Posted on 18 December 2009

Is “sequoia milkwood” a manufactured note? I have no idea what that is supposed to smell like. I wish it had more woody notes to balance out all that sweet! But it does sound interesting. One thing for sure, Beyonce can sell a product. When I worked in cosmetics retail, she was the face of the Tommy Hilfiger True Star fragrances and people would come in and ask for the “Beyonce perfume”. They would usually buy it without even bothering to smell it.

    • Robin
      Posted on 18 December 2009

Probably. And might also be a missing comma.

    • Daisy
      Posted on 18 December 2009

sequoia milkwood….immediately brought to mind the plain old milkWEED that I allow to grow in one flower bed in my yard —we like to raise monarch butterflies—-many years of mulching has produced fantastic soil and these milkweed grow HUGE : six feet tall !! We joke that they are milkweed TREES….

      • miss kitty v.
        Posted on 18 December 2009

Oh! We used to have milkweed for the monarchs when I was a kid! Brings back such happy memories! Unfortunately, they’re happy *summer* memories, which reminds me that it’s not summer now, and makes me that much more angry that it’s cold and wet and I HATE WINTER!!!

Ok, I’m just going to go back to sniffing the leftover Bois des Iles on my sweater and calm myself down…

You and me both Ms. Kitty! every year as the temperatures drop—I try to convince my hubby to move southwest….so far I haven’t gotten him to budge an inch. So here I sit in the cold….the good news is I have a fantastic selection of obnoxiously colored fuzzy socks….and a lot of tea cups!

The notes sound right up my alley. Seems a little to heavy for Feb. but hey, I’ll wear it if its wonderful. Almond macaroon = YUM! Im really not liking the bottle or the ad. Beyonce could have come up w/ something better. Even the name isnt doing anything for me. O well, Im still looking forward to it!! : )

    • Robin

Hey, but February is just when you need heavy! Much more sensible than launching Queen in summer, IMHO.

As soon as I read the tagline, I immediately thought of the Christopher Walken cowbell skit from SNL. “I’ve got a fever and the only cure for that fever is more cowbell…” That or some silly snackfood advert. Song or not, that tagline really makes me laugh. The fragrance sounds incredibly sweet, but I’m willing to give it a sniff. I’ve liked some sweet celeb frags so it might not be too bad.

    • moon_grrl

I am a sucker for Vanilla Orchird.Red Vanilla Orchird has my intrigued.I agree with the comment about the bottle. Its so boring and cheap looking.I really don’t like the bottle. The name lacks imagination along with the bottle.I would of expected more from her.

    • Robin
      Posted on 18 December 2009

Red vanilla orchid appears to be this plant:

      Nigritella rubra

but just as likely that they’re just giving a fancy name to a vanilla note.

That would be fine with me, I love Hypnotic Poison.

      • jonr951
        Posted on 21 December 2009

So its nothing like Hypnotic Poison. Its really sweet. It reminds me of a much sweeter version of Secret Obsession. Its top is like lollipop fruity sweet which I wasnt expecting. I was expecting more from the 1st scent by Beyonce. O well. I love the bottle in person. I like it but Im not adoring it. Itll grow on me. Still luv Beyonce! : )

        • Robin
          Posted on 21 December 2009

“Crème de musk”? Is it like cream of mushroom soup? Would I find it on the menu next to cream of potato soup and cream of broccoli? Do I pop open a can and slather it on chicken breast for that extra special something?
And I always thought Tommy Hilfiger True Star was her first perfume; I’m *positive* I remember something about her being involved in the process or it being inspired by her, rather than her just being the face for its ad campaign. I’m most likely wrong, though, as my memory is like a broken sieve ;)

    • Robin
      Posted on 20 December 2009

The TH TS fragrance was supposedly inspired by her, and she supposedly smelled the submissions and picked one, and supposedly it was coincidentally the same one Hilfiger picked. All possibly true, but also all just the sort of thing that makes good publicity — and she was hired, obviously, to help with the publicity.

    Posted on 20 December 2009

I think the days of celebrity fragrances are just about done. One, it’s just tired; two, with the likes of TMZ we just know way too much about these people for a scent to hang on to its appeal and mystique. Maybe a better idea is for all those seemingly silent models to launch signature scents. Or better yet, how about perfumiers?

    • Robin
      Posted on 20 December 2009

That’s what everyone says, but we’re seeing more celebrities sign contracts, not fewer. So I’ll believe it when I see it ;-)

  28. APassionateJourney

I got a sample card at Macy’s yesterday….found it SO DISAPPOINTING! After reading the notes I thought it might be decent, but only the magnolia, almond macaroon, and musk came through definitively for me, and the combination was just too sweet-powdery for my taste….I thought it would have more “diva power”, if you will, but instead I got an impression of a not-so-powerful grandmother….sweet, but I don’t think enough so to compare it to the Escadas.
