oh, darn – it is very simliar to the Marc Jacobs bottle in shape, but the cap is smaller and the collar is more like a “dicky” . . . aarggh, and naturally, I would love whatever is in this bottle ! !

Great tip, Robin! I recently acquired four bottles of vintage Shalimar and thought I would never get the stopper out of the rosebud bottle. I never thought to put it in the freezer for a few minutes. I’ve opened two of them, one rosebud and one urn shaped, and I did clean around the top carefully with a little alcohol on a swab. The necks were encrusted with grime and I didn’t want that getting into my perfume. They smell so good! All of them came from estate sales or church bazaars and I’ve researched the bottles and stamps and I think they range from the late 40′s to the early/mid-sixties. Somebody told me that it was a shame to open them and I really disagree. Their previous owners probably thought they were “too fancy” to wear then put them away and never enjoyed them. I use this same reasoning in many areas of my life which is why we use our silver utensils every day. I want to enjoy what I have now. I say purchase and wear what you love, don’t save it for later. Life is too short to wear crappy perfume!

Try putting it in the freezer for about 5-10 minutes, then see if you can’t gently ease it out. That usually works.

I am reaaally late to this one!!
Any suggestions on how to open up an unopened vintage bottle of Shalimar that is stuck? Alcohol with a dropper?
I tried knowing, on one hand and beautiful, on the other and wanted to SCRUB them both off …should have stuck to the feeling of the week, bois de isle or attrape!!!

OMG, I love love love Vanille Intense! I just got a nice size decant of it, and will spring for a full bottle once it’s gone. The only thing stopping me from buying a full bottle now is wanting to spend some $$$ on Amaranthine as well.
