I’m sure nobody’s reading this old post, but for the record, I ordered the ‘sample swatches’ from Le Cherche Midi and, to my surprise, received (promptly) 6 big fat spray samples in a silky black drawstring bag, boxed in a gift box and tied with a ribbon. It’s the nicest sample set I’ve ever gotten, and it’s free! These have got to be 2ml samples at least — they’re huge. I tried them all, and about half of them are either too simple or too artificial for my taste (when the EDT costs $38, you know you’re not getting top-notch ingredients), but there are 2 I will probably buy, and at least one other sample I will hold onto. Fun! Highly recommended.

I’ll let you know what happens. The last free samples I got were from Czech and Speake, and I’m still irritated with them for selling my information. So as long as I don’t get tons of emails telling me how many quid I’ve won in the lottery (I’m in the US–the British pounds were the tip-off as to who had sold my info), I guess I don’t care too much what the “swatches” are like!

I remember my first experience working in retail and learning about “mark-ups.” In addition to being just plain deceitful, it’s also an insult to our intelligence that they think we wouldn’t notice.

I did notice you can get “sample swatches” of the fragrances sent, which is nice. I ordered, just out of curiosity. I am expecting either pieces of scented fabric (like a fabric swatch) or scented blotter paper. Will be pleasantly surprised if I get actual sample vials.
