CB I Hate Perfume M #4 A Room With a View & AmBrosius ~ new fragrances

CB I Hate Perfume M #4 A Room With a View & AmBrosius

CB I Hate Perfume has launched two new fragrances, M #4 A Room With a View and AmBrosius:

M #4 A Room With a View ~ “A Violet perfume inspired by a favorite passage from E M Forster. This perfume captures the scent of the hills above Florence – the vineyards, the wild grass, the finocchio, the hot dusty Florentine earth. And of course a torrent of Violets…” Available in 2 ($17) or 15 ($85) ml Perfume Absolute or 100 ml Water Perfume ($85).

AmBrosius ~ “Recently, I decided to rework a version of an amber scent that I’d been wearing myself for a while. I blended a few types of real Amber with cistus, labdanum and benzoin and arrived at a perfume that seems to crackle and smolder on the skin. Naturally I love smoky incense smells but this one is particularly delicious.” Additional notes include black pepper and spices. Available in 2 ($19) or 15 ($95) ml Perfume Absolute or 100 ml Water Perfume ($95).

Wait, wait, wait. A violet perfume inspired by one of my favorite movie/books of all time? Smoldering amber incense? Do I even need to say “sign me up”?

How I love you CB I Hate Perfume.

They both sound wonderful, don’t they? And love that he’s done all these different violets.

Oh indeed. These are a must sniff for me.

Why haven’t I tried not even one CB yet? Which five would you recommend to start with? :-)

Hey, but you can go right over to the store! I’d recommend you go sniff all of it.

Violet Empire and Black March Water did it for me.

Robin is right, C!!! You’re practically around the corner! We are envious! Go smell a bunch asap!

I need to try more of his scents; even the ones I haven’t loved, I’ve at least found very interesting. This is easily one of my favorite lines. In fact, the only complaint I can come up with (please don’t faint, Robin! :D ) is that the water perfumes don’t come in smaller sizes.

    • Robin
      Posted on 23 October 2009

Oh, I do wish he’d do them at least in 50 ml, if not 30. But I’m glad he does them at all since I don’t love oils.

No, nor do I…so it figures that’s what is available in convenient little sizes. :( At some point, I need a decant of Wild Hunt.

    ahhh, both of these! *faints*
I need to pay a visit to that site sooooon.
And since I am an oil-wearer, I love those little $17 bottles. A little goes a long way.

      Posted on 23 October 2009

Ok, but you know they’re samples, right? But do agree a little goes a long way.

I don’t really consider them “samples”, just little bottles. :-)

AmBrosius. I love a good pun. Sign me up for both of these…

M#4 sounds delicious. Amber I love, but “smoky” can be love or hate.

One more reminder that I’ve been wanting to buy Wild Pansy for two years now. Maybe next Spring. :D

      Posted on 23 October 2009

It’s rare I don’t like smoky, but amber is not always my friend. We’ll see…this one really does sound wonderful.

  11. Posted on 23 October 2009

Got a chance to sniff both of these recently–just quickly, but enough to tell that they were excellent. I’m anosmic to Violet Empire so I was particularly happy to smell gorgeous violets in Room with a View. The amber leaned dry and animalic on me (it was sweeter on a friend) with an almost herbal Ambre Sultanish top.

Any comparison between Wild Pansy and RWAV? (If you remember, and I know I probably wouldnt’)

        Posted on 24 October 2009

I went by the Brooklyn “gallery,” sniffed and wore RWAV this August, and it was very different from Wild Pansy, to me: Wild Pansy is much greener and fresh, RWAV has a strong “dirt” feel, very much like rolling around on a hill with violets a day after a big rainstorm: the soil is muddy, and something slithers around in your toes. I found it more complex (and maybe, in late summer, a bit difficult), but captivating.

Hey all! Gosh, do I feel like a Greenhorn or what? I found this blog only last night, and I’m reading articles like there’s no tomorrow! I love the smell of violets, and I’ve been trying to find a good violet perfume forever! When I ask the disinterested sales ladies who work in our perfumeries, they only say who makes it, and what’s it called? I’ve never heard ot this line you’re talking about. I live in the U K, so I guess it’s not too surprising. Thank Goodness I’m heading back to Louisiana, where my Fiance lives, for thanksgiving and Christmas soon, so I guess I’ll be dropping at least $17. Hope everyone’s having a good weekend.

Have you tried Borsari Violetta di Parma? A simple but nice violet.

You can order them online…the 2 ml listed above.

I wish I could get hold of CB I hate perfume more easily (don’t think they ship to England currently) as I would dearly love to try the violet Room with a View. I loved the book and the Merchant Ivory film was just gorgeous. The kiss was so romantic AND sexy and one of my favourite actors, Daniel Day Lewis plays the rather irritating (but good) Cecil so well. Sigh.

    • Robin
      Posted on 24 October 2009

It’s a wonderful movie! Luckyscent will ship overseas, but they only have a selection of the line.

Gosh, I knew it was a great moment, but that passage is a lot more suggestive than I remembered it. Almost makes up for having to spend that much time with Lucy Honeychurch, who I find infuriatingly dippy. I’d love to try the perfume.

Yes, same here — I hadn’t read it in years.

Do any of the New Yorkers (or others) around here know if any of the Manhattan stores that carry CBIHP carry the full, or almost full, range? I’m planning a sniffing excursion tomorrow, and while I would love to try these, I think the Williamsburg store is closed on Sundays (and, truth to tell, I reeeaally wouldn’t want to schlep all the way out there even if it were open).

I dunno about “crackling and smoldering on the skin.” Unless there’s a cute doctor in the burn unit.

  18. Posted on 25 October 2009

Gosh, these sound wonderful. I just went to the website, and now just *have to* try Black March, Wild Hunt, and all they ocean-y ones. Also reminded that Joe sent me a bit of Wild Pansy, and I need to try it!

    • Robin
      Posted on 25 October 2009

Black March is really wonderful…that & Memory of Kindness are both very high on my list of favorites.

Both of these sound totally swoon-worthy! I love that book too.
