Parfums de Nicolai Patchouli Homme / Patchouli Intense~ new fragrance

Parfums de Nicolai Patchouli Homme

Parfums de Nicolaï has launched Patchouli Homme / Patchouli Intense:

“Patchouli is a material of great importance in the perfumer’s palette. It plays as first violin in the orchestra. Among all the woody notes, it is the most sensuous. Patchouli evokes richness”, writes Patricia de Nicolaï. With Patchouli Homme, the perfumer wanted to compose a woody oriental for men, but she ended up selling it to women too (which is why it will soon be renamed Patchouli Intense). And why not? This distinctly un-hippie patchouli straddles both sides of the olfactory gender spectrum…

The notes feature lavender, Turkish rose, Bourbon geranium, frankincense, sandalwood, bay oil, cinnamon, leather, amber and vanilla.

Parfums de Nicolaï Patchouli Homme / Patchouli Intense is available now at Luckyscent, in 30 ($55) or 100 ($130) ml Eau de Toilette. (via luckyscent)

I don’t know that I’d say that patchouli is the “most sensuous” of woody notes, but this does have my attention. After years spent loathing patchouli, I’m starting to like it again. Just what I needed, one more category to buy from. I blame you, Coromandel…

ha – Coronandel certainly does have it’s fair share of patchouli, doesn’t it. My husband has been wearing it every day – it really is great on him.

Erm – I meant CoroMandel, of course.

HA…I blame Coromandel for scaring me off just when I was getting used to patchouli ;-)

I want to try this even though the lavendar & leather scare me a little. Also hoping it’s not “too masculine,” thought that’s usually not a problem with PdN.

The current decant (preciously hoarding) that I can’t get enough of is Borneo 1834. So amazing on chilly nights.

I take it that it isn’t so masculine that women won’t wear it? But who knows.

I’m a fan of patchouli, but for me, the most sensuous woody note would be sandalwood.

      I’ll go for that.

As an outright patch hater, I’ll fourth that!

And showing my ignorance…why is it a “woody” note at all? I thought it was an herb, and that the scent came from the leaves?

Good point. I was clueless so looked it up. I guess “woody” must refer to a lot of things… including the woody roots of the vetiveeer grass. Also did not know until just now that patch was used for moth repellent properties (like a cedar chest) in the old days.

Thanks, you beat me too it. Supposedly patchouli first came to the West tucked into shawls to keep moths away…

Can’t wait to try this! I loves me my patch! HA! Coromandel, Bois 1920 Real Patchouly, SL Borneo, TM Angels and flankers….love them ALL! I can’t seem to find another of my patch samples that I fell in love with…Rem Elixer. :-)

I do like that Rem, but not generally a patch person. Will try this one eventually though!

Robin, Rustic Dove, Miss Kitty- I’m with you on that. Sandalwood is my favorite woody note and for me rules the roost as far as sensuality in that class. I suppose I wouldn’t be so on the fence about patchouli if I could just find one that doesn’t smell like Pine-Sol.

I have found a few patchouli scents I really like (Montale Patch Leaves, Reminiscence Patch Elixir), but by & large it is not a favorite note.

Ugh (groans). Totally OD’d on patchouli oil in my old art student days. Can’t even think about it now without wincing! Oh, the shame…

I think that patchouli would play cello. This sounds intriguing.
