“Mysterious and disconcerting”? Personally, I don’t care to be bewildered and perturbed by my perfume. But that’s just me.

Ha – true dat. Cute bottle – I’m a sucker for tassels.

It looks a lot like the bottle for Avon’s Far Away. (Not to ruin it for anyone…) :(

BAD KITTY! all the Rosine’s have a tassle….it’s their “thing”.
Rosines do just about anything rose pretty decently so of course I’d like a whiff of this. I know: “mysterious and disconcerting” they could just as easily be talking about my cooking! They have to say something in the ad copy to hook us. I read it like this “blah blah blablablah…” then look at the notes, then ignore the notes and pop a sample in my TPC cart anyways. yup, that’s pretty much how it goes.

It’s not just the tassel. The bottle shapes are different, both otherwise very similar. Nothing against PdR, especially since I’ve never tried any of them.

Miss K: that was my exact first thought too. Not only the tassles, shape of the bottle but also the colour combo.

I don’t know, personally I was excited by “mysterious and disconcerting” right up until I read the word “licorice”. Deal breaker.

Daisy – LOL at your saying it describes your cooking!

LOL….how do the CEO and kids deal with “liquorice..blah blah ” in the scrambled eggs ? :-) actually after 2 second thought a joke turns into serious…it might be quite good!!!..in a mysterious and disconcerting way!!!

    I’m a sucker for LPdR!

I hate to say it, but they’re wearing me out…I can’t keep up! And all rose. Gotta hand it to them for sticking to the subject.

I know what you mean about the sheer quantity of them. However, I do find them to be really varied within that self-imposed rose “constraint”. Wish I could remember that quote about art thriving on boundaries… oh, well… I like ‘em anyway… :)

        • Robin
          Posted on 22 October 2009

Oh, I like them too, or many of them, anyway. I just can’t manage to try them all.

A rose so rare it doesn’t exist!
Another flower from the fantasy perfume garden, growing next to the blue gardenia…..
    Still, may be lovely…

They list the “almost” black roses, like Black Baccara, Black Magic, etc…

        Posted on 22 October 2009

Yeah, I used to have “black roses,” along with my Queen of the Night tulips, and my black dahlias. Someone called it my Adam’s Family Flowerbed. I loved it.

          Posted on 22 October 2009

Yes – very, very dark red flowers in general are referred to as ‘black’, and they’re so stunning.

    Posted on 22 October 2009

Still haven’t tried even one Rosine.

I’m wondering if the “rare black rose” is like the “rare black leather accord” they put in one of the Canali scents a year or two ago.

    • Robin
      Posted on 22 October 2009

Oh, but please note they aren’t listing it as a note! So not quite that silly.

  6. Posted on 22 October 2009

Many many facets of rose! I have yet to sniff all the Rosines, although I’ve taken a good stab at it. They’re all well done, even if not all of them have suited me. This one I don’t know about… anise & cumin? I’m dubious.

I for one am NOT loving the black top. I think they might have been better served with their usual frosted top, along with a tassel in black and pale dusty pink (more like the liquid color). There you go… PdR should pay ME to design their packaging, shouldn’t they? HA.

    • Posted on 22 October 2009

I agree about the packaging. The black top cheapens the look a bit, I think. And I for one am tired of seeing the words “black” and “noir” in fragrances names. Too many already!

OTOH, the fragrance sounds interesting, and I like several of the Rosines.

      • Posted on 22 October 2009

Oops, I see that “black” is NOT in the name. I don’t take back my rant, thought. ;-)

I like the sound of “mysterious and disconcerting”, it’s the licorice and cumin that has me worried.

LOL Cynthia – my thoughts exactly! I posted it above before I read your comment.

      Cumin does disconcert me.

      • CynthiaW
        Posted on 22 October 2009

It disconcerts me, too, but not in a good way – but mostly because I don’t want to smell like a sweaty armpit. I can do that without spending money on perfume if I really want to.

Y’all are a tough crowd today! :-) This one sounds at least worth a sniff to me, since it isn’t one of the usual oh-so-ladylike-sounding Rosines.

Here’s a positive thought: now that they’ve got a new Rosine out, maybe more of the older ones will hit the discounters. I was looking for Zeste de rose for under fifty bucks last year; maybe I’ll see it soon!

    • vickyjane
      Posted on 22 October 2009

I like that thought! Another Zeste fan here. Also still hunting for Rose Praline – no one seems to have it in stock. Grrrr. Hate it when you find true love, only to be thwarted!

Beauty Habit has Rose Praline in the 50 ml size, plus a 20% off code – instyle – until Nov. 30.

we sent them out to the engravers….

          Posted on 23 October 2009

Wow, thanks Capricious! Excellent tip on the discount code too – much appreciated!!! Have placed an order, so fingers crossed I don’t get a “sorry, but this item is out of stock” e-mail, which is what has happened from every other site I’ve tried – so frustrating! If this one works out, you have my eternal gratitude! Many, many thanks, and Congrats on your Esteemed Enabler status! :) :) :)

There are a couple discounters that have much of the line…shop around!

  10. Posted on 22 October 2009

Hey, why not? I figure there will be some days that I want to be mysterious!

Floral-amber rose – I don’t think I’ve smelled an amber rose, wait does Stella by Stella McCartney count?

    • RusticDove
      Posted on 22 October 2009

Mysterious – fine. I just don’t want to walk around in the world disconcerting everyone. I have enough problems.

      • CynthiaW
        Posted on 22 October 2009

I’m pretty sure that I disconcert others regardless of what perfume I’m wearing. ;-)

weeeelll… i dunnoooo…cumin, rose, liquorice…i have one love of theirs…ecume de rosine…i get to smell their others, but there r too many to give them a fair chance…each time i wear ecume, i wonder why i don’t wear it more often…(probably because i have sooo many, i can’t wear anything often!!!..bad..bad)

    • boojum
      Posted on 22 October 2009

That one really IS nice, isn’t it?

    • Robin

Ecume is really nice. Doesn’t seem to have a very good shelf life for me though.

  15. Zazie
    Posted on 23 October 2009

I quite liked the Rosines I tried: zeste and ecume, though more on strip than on skin… they became a bit thin and couldn’t hold my interest. But they were important for me because I discovered that rose could unexpectedly please me in perfumes (though admittedly I wear or love very few rose perfumes: Une rose chyprée, which is my favorite and I’m wearing it a lot lately, and also Tai’f and bois de paradis – but admittedly they don’t smell so “rose” on me, and I don’t wear them often anyway. Une rose pétale would be fabulous…if it wasn’t for the screechy oud note…Brrrrr: takes too long for it’s bitterness to receed).

    • Robin
      Posted on 23 October 2009

You might like Rosine’s Une Folie (if they still make it, and if it hasn’t been reformulated).
