I love a bit of subtlety in a perfume name and package, don't you? Sigh.

“Sexual” & “Sexual Fresh” were ok, but “Sexual Star” is maybe going a bit too far ;-)

    Certainly raises expectations.

I thought the gold thing is a mini vibrator.

I was thinking along these lines as mentioned above, and with Angela's salacious retro post above well good morning NST!,…Sexual Star sounds like 1 – a sex toy, 2 – a headline gal at the local gentlemen's club or 3 – a sex ad grab line….and yes, I also thought the mini looks like a personal devide. I guess there are no ladies at VS anymore….

Oh, and I was so distracted by the trashy name/packaging that I forgot to mention that the notes *actually* sound interesting….though a little been there, done that. It would be funny if it actually smelled good. Wiith such a bad name, I'd just decant it and throw away the bottle (burn the box and admit to nothing!)

I am so glad I'm not the only one to raise an eyebrow at the mini. Wasn't sure what NST was posting about now.

    LOL — yes. There's that.

The bottle looks like the Max Mara Le Parfum EDP. People seem to be running our of ideas in perfume bottle design….

    OK… I'm confused!

Michel Germain created Sexual Star —FOR VICTORIA'S SECRET, but the name would lead anyone to believe that it is a flanker –FOR HIS OWN COMPANY?

Has his company been bought by VS?

To me, the mini looked more like a very fancy … personal hygiene item.

    Ann,

LOL — we all need a jolt on Monday morning, no?

  13. Anonymous
    Posted on 26 January 2009

Well, yes, it's a flanker to one of his own scents, and he's selling it exclusively at VS. Not all that uncommon although I'm so brain dead this morning I'm having trouble thinking of another example! Maybe the confusion is because I put “Victoria's Secret” in the title, which I'm not sure is consistent w/ how NST usually announces these things. Hmmm. Maybe I'll take it back out.

Yeah, decided to take it out. Gone.

I don't think I'd want to tell people what fragrance I'm wearing! I'd be compelled to be coy and vague.

This name……….no. “Sexual star” makes me think of porn.

I should be done with this, but you know, after re-reading everyone's comments above, it made me think back to Jan 22, 2009, and Robin's “Anxiety, Irritation & Distaste” post….

You know, aside from the actual merit of the juice which actually may be quite nice…if this is what the industry is worried that bloggers will object to, then too bad for the industry. I am certainly no prude, but how many of us thought this was a little over the top. Seriously. They may as well called it “organ” (pick your favorite) and got it over with. Where is the mystery, the seduction, even playfulness, no. Just SEXUAL STAR: wear this and you'll confirm to all men that you're the best lay in town. Woo-hoo! Who cares about alluring copy, just get to the point already. It really is too bad on many levels. You know the real bottle is actually pretty. And many atomizers are bullet shaped. But this is just beyond ridiculous. Why that stupid, insulting & unsophisticated name?

Sounds… nice. Nothing original about it, but still; it sounds like it'd be pleasent.

Hopefully I'll be going back to America in October, so I'll give it a try.

You could do a whole list of top fragrance names that sound like euphemisms for body parts. I think this one might be tied with “Carnal Flower”.

Well, another example was the innocent secret, launched by thierry mugler with victoria secrets also. I think they like to do this thing, and it looks it's a trend nowadays, even avon is doing this.

And I also thought that the mini looked like fun for girls rs

As I scrolled down the page and my eyes alit on the image, I was immediately reminded of the Angel and Wish bottles. I guess there are only so many geometric shapes in the universe to choose from. I agree with many of the things that AnnS said.

I thought the name was pretty lol-worthy

Right — forgot about that one. Although I think overseas you could buy it elsewhere, IIRC.

Honestly don't give a WHIT about If the bottle is a Copy of this or that bottle (however it does remind me of Chopard Wish a bit!) or how trashy it may or may not be… the juice is the important thing… and personally, I think this really sounds luxuriously delicious! Love Apricot and Honey and Vanilla and Sandalwood and Sage and Amber… all seems to point to that this is going to be somewhat more upmarket than the usual trash from VS… Although their last Dream Angels Fragrance is pretty damn nice! I am looking forward strangely to this, Vibrator/Dildo Bullet Purse Spray and All! :-)

Well sod this for a game of soldiers, eh? Between “Sexual Star” in the bottle that looks like a vibrator and “IN2U Heat His & Hers” in the bottles that look like KY Yours & Mine, I don't what to think anymore… ;)

This is VS though…that's sort of the point, right?

  29. Anonymous
    Posted on 26 January 2009

But again…back to a point I made in the comments to that article, I think we have to be careful to remember that even if the readers here overwhelmingly hate the name & the concept, that doesn't mean much for VS — they're not aiming their products at perfumistas but at their own customer base. And VS, I would say, is all about “over the top”.

The notes do sound nice! I'll give it a try if I can find a tester.

Yeesh – why not just call it “Po*n Star” and get it over with? I hope it's better and less brassy than the name implies -I hate to see perfectly good apricots & lilacs wasted on a bad perfume.

Yep — we're out of new shapes!

It's not the best flanker name — but there aren't all that many good ones for “Sexual”. I thought “Sexual Fresh” was kind of silly too.

True – I'm sure it will be a fun concept for many of VS clients, or their boyfriends, lol. Just in time for big Valentine's Day shopping too! “You're my only star, baby, XO.”

Ah, but that one has a sense of humor about it, plus, it's a fabulous scent. Don't think “Sexual Star” is meant to be humorous!

I need to find Cumming – everyone says it is really awesome on several levels. I know it is totally tongue-in-cheek but it is still a bit of an eyebrow raiser and definitely a giggle. I love Alan Cumming.

    *apricot, orange blossom, honey*

Hmmm, that sounds too fruity sweet. Not for me.

I am very curious about V. S. 2007. *Mood Yearn*. Notes: tuberose, gardenia, coconut and musk. Have you tried that one?

  45. Anonymous

And that is still one of my all time favorite perfume commercials :-)

    Posted on 28 January 2009

Do try Cumming. Really, it's one of the few I really love, love, love. Never a dull minute with that one!

I, too, love the double entendre of the name, and how one can feign complete ignorance, as well. “It's his last name, is it not?” ;)

  47. Anonymous
    Posted on 28 January 2009

I haven't, sorry! Sounds like it might be awfully sweet though too…VS, in general, seems to tend towards sweet.

I just try imagining – assuming that the fragrance is adequate – someone asks you what you're wearing …
I like Sandalwood and Amber though.

Ah well, you can always lie :-)

Of course the truth wouldn't do. But I try to picture it like one of those cringeworthy scenes in films – you can't watch them but you can't stop looking.
