Valentino Eau de ParfumValentino will launch Valentino Eau de Parfum, a new aldehydic floral perfume for women, in February:

    Hi Robin,
even if a bit late, I wish you a happy new year!!
Talking about the new 2009 releases, I've read today @ graindemusc about the JCE's forthcoming vanilla rendition.
I was quite surprised and am very curious about it.
(much more than this valentino rice vapour aldehydic thing!!)

“Rice vapour” might be nice – I like the way rice smells when it's cooking!
I also kind of like that silly bottle in combo with that peachy juice.

I think Kenzo “Amour” is another new fragrance that has “rice steam” accord in it–that was creamy-dry-sweet.

The bottle is charming, reminiscent of an old-fashioned inkwell, but the cap is exactly wrong for that style. It looks as if the top from a miniature bottle of Hypnose Homme had somehow landed on the Valentino bottle by accident.

    It does look nice!

Yep — and then there's OJ Champaca. I like rice :-)

Cap might be better in a different color? Don't know — I never like caps when I see them in person anyway.

Once more, I am scratching my head. This sounds suspiciously like a fruity floral, but classifies itself as a chypre. Where is my beloved oak moss? OK, I'll admit I am a sucker for real rice steam, and I'll go sniff to see if I can detect it in this. Bottle is cute, though.

OH GOODY GOODY GUMDROPS!!!!!! WOW! This is something I am just DYING for… my first Fragrance Desire of '09! it sounds HEAVENLY! Pear Blossom… Vanilla Orchid (GOD BLESS US ALL!)… Magnolia… Mimosa… What more deliciousness could one ask for other than Frangipani and Osmanthus being in it! :-) That and the Violet Leaves and Heliotrope (have loved Heliotrope ever since i first recognized it in the Eponymous Donna Karan Fragrance back in the day!) And I SO, SO, SO, SOOOOOOO LOVE That Bottle and the Packaging! I am very Much less harsh on Bottle tops than most, I think this top suits the bottle Just Perfectly. OK… maybe had it been Etched Glass or Maybe even A Clear Glass Cabochon that might be better but, hey… I LOVE IT! cannot wait for the release… all of Valentino's Fragrances have been DIVINE (did anyone ever smell the women's Vendetta? CRAZY GOOD! Rock 'N' Rose is Awesome in all it's Incarnations as well!) Am Waiting with Baited Breath here!

the kenzoki sensual range is also based on rice-steam-notes, very rice-y and lovely body products (but expensive)

Well, it's hard to tell — they clearly didn't bother to list the basenotes, first of all, and second, clearly oakmoss is not required for a “modern” chypre – just a bit of patch & dry wood, as near as I can tell. Third — “classifies itself” is a key point. We'll see what Michael Edwards calls it.

    Sounds like you'd best pre-order it ;-)

Funny how the bottle's top is so often the weak link in the packaging, isn't it?

I've heard those are nice, but have never seen them anywhere…

Yes — for $ reasons, they're pretty much stuck w/ plastic, and plastic just never looks as nice as the glass. Sometimes the fancier caps actually look worse to me than the plain ones.

Does a perfume have to have base notes? Does it just settle that way?..into base notes I mean. I have read a few perfumes that don't list anything but flowers, or are they leaving something out?

I really hope it gets good reviews. I am just about sick of mainstream fragrances getting bad reviews, Luckily, my boyfriend doesn't know niche from designer, nor do most people. On the post about loving a fragrance after a few sniffs, I was the only one who mentioned popular mainstream fragrance. I guess I feel left out because I don't have easy access to niche or boutique fragrances-and lack of money doesn't help.

to bad so sad. I love fragrance though, so I'll just keep sending away for samples until I know what everyone is talking about.
    :D

Almost every perfume has some sort of musk or another, and almost no “lists of notes” are complete. So yeah, this almost undoubtedly has more notes than are listed above.
