Coming this spring from Grès, Hommage à Greta Garbo, the second in the line’s series of fragrances honoring famous clients of designer Alix Grès (see: Hommage à Marlene Dietrich):
Greta Garbo was the absolute superstar in the Thirties of the Twentieth Century. The Swedish actress became famous through her roles as strong, determined women such as Anna Karenina, Queen Christina or the Polish Countess Maria Walewska. She succeeded in playing these characters in a subtle, demure way, manifesting deep emotions in close-ups simply through the expression of her eyes. The artistry of her acting was unique. As of 1928, she became known simply as „the Garbo“ and was a box office magnet.
The three fragrances in the Hommage à Greta Garbo collection are:
Mythos ~ a fruity floral perfume developed by perfumer Amandine Marie, with notes of apples, oranges, black currants, pineapple, rose, freesia, peony, musk, sandalwood and iris.
Sphinx ~ a fresh floral developed by perfumer Marie Salamagne, and featuring litchi, peach, yuzu, lotus blossoms, rose, peony, cedar, musk and patchouli.
Goddess ~ a floriental, also by Marie Salamagne. The notes include plum, mandarin orange, cardamom, cinnamon, heliotrope, jasmine, sandalwood, moss, vanilla and ambergris.
Grès Hommage à Greta Garbo Mythos, Sphinx and Goddess will be available in 60 ml Eau de Parfum. (via art-fragrance)

Did anyone ever smell the Marlene Dietrich series?
I sure didn't…not sure they made it to the US at all, and don't think Gres has a regular distributor here…only see them at discounters.
Garbo doesn't seem very fruity-floral to me – the only one that comes close to what I think she would smell like is the Goddess one. I somehow imagine her in more woody masculines, like Vetyver, or serious florals like gardenia.
Lordy lo, can we just have a single fragrance “homage” instead of a whole series? But you know, they don't ask me for my opinion about these things…. I'll shut up now.

I haven't watched any of Garbo or Dietrich's films but I do believe I have read that she wore Fracas and Bandit… and I think maybe Tabac Blond? So the Hommage à Marlene Dietrich doesn't really sound right to me either.

and I haven't smelled Bandit, Tabac Blond or the three Grès scents, so I don't actually know what I'm talking about

Oh yes, that would be great! A series of perfumes to reflect her most famous roles and one – yes, Bandit! – to reflect the fabulously feisty lady herself. Bette sums up the 'old' attitude to perfumery to me – she had character and personality and yes you might hate her, but there was enough of her to truly adore. Nowadays it's all focus-grouped to mediocrity and the lowest common denominator. (Fruity floral for Garbo? Bah! Humbug! A crackling eau de cologne, dry and sparkling citrus or cool chypre, yes.)
