Keiko Mecheri Cuir Cordoba, Datura Blanche, Iris Pourpre & Iris d’Argent ~ new fragrances

Keiko Mecheri Cuir Cordoba, Datura Blanche, Iris Pourpre and Iris d'Argent

This fall, US-based niche line Keiko Mecheri will launch four new fragrances, Cuir Cordoba, Datura Blanche, Iris Pourpre and Iris d’Argent:

Cuir Cordoba is a “sweet and delicate” leather fragrance meant to mimic the feel of suede on skin. The notes include suede accord, iris, black violet, patchouli, sandalwood and benzoin.

Datura Blanche features datura, tuberose, jasmine, bitter almond, heliotrope, tonka bean, vanilla and amber.

Iris Pourpre was inspired by a Japanese painting from the Edo period showing a garden of iris; it has notes of iris pallida, black iris, chypre accord and narcissus.

Iris d’Argent is the masculine counterpoint to Iris Pourpre; the notes include iris pallida, black iris, citrus, chypre accord and amber.

Keiko Mecheri Cuir Cordoba, Datura Blanche, Iris Pourpre and Iris d’Argent will be available in 75 ml Eau de Parfum. (via extrait.it)

Well I may HAVE to get one of those to go with Datura noir and Secrete!

I don’t usually like Blanche things so well as Noir things, but I’ll give it a shot! Mostly interested in that iris duo though.

Four? Four? Aaargh… I may start boycotting companies that release more than one scent at a time.

Do that, and you’ll be “cured” of fragrances in no time… :D

Yeah, why not two now & two later? It’s distressing.

      • Posted on 17 September 2009

But less distressing for them! Why spend money on two campaigns when one will do…

True. But I really do think some people just throw their hands up & say forget it…so wonder if it really pays off.

I never tied any of their scents (I’m not even sure if they are available in UK) but Datura Blanche sounds nice. I’m also liking the bottles, remind me a little of Piguet.

They’ve changed their bottles several times and I’ve never seen these in person — I do like them in pictures though.

Datura Blanche does sound nice… but I find Keiko Mecheris really faint, I don’t know if that’s just me.

    • Posted on 17 September 2009

I’ve only tried one KM, Peau de Peche, and could not smell it at all – although I think I’m anosmic to some “peach” notes. Couldn’t smell Nahema or Boucheron Jaipur, either. That is, I could tell there was something on my arm, but I could not actually smell it. Might be a peachy musk, blocking all of the smell, but I don’t know.

      Datura Blanche DOES sound nice!

I haven’t been crazy about any of them, as much as I want to love them–something about that bottle. Anyway, Peau de Peche–also very faint on me, and what was there didn’t last. Sanguine–nice start, weird Barbie doll plastic drydown. And Mogador smelled exactly like j’Adore to me. They all seem to be lacking something, and I don’t feel like they’re worth the price. Maybe the next four will be better?

      • Posted on 17 September 2009

I forgot Mogador! It was really pretty, but I found it very similar to Teo Cabanel Julia, and somehow knowing that two scents are very similar makes me uninterested in both of them.

That’s my problem with KMs, too — for the longevity their fragrances offer (well, the ones I love anyway: Peau de Peche, Jasmine) I simply don’t think it’s worth $120 or whatever. If they were still under $100, I’d be more inclined to spring for a full bottle.

    • Robin
      Posted on 17 September 2009

Some of them are light, but some aren’t…really depends. Peau de Peche, as several people mentioned, is pretty light.

I was really excited to try it, after I read in The Guide that it lasted through several showers. I’m glad I wasn’t that only one that found it weak.

That’s probably my favorite KM. It would probably last longer with generous sprays, but still. I’ve been thinking about springing for some Peche de Vigne instead, for my (peach-fragrance-allocated) money’s worth.

Ooh, I’m not familiar with that one! Who does it?

            Posted on 18 September 2009

Cote Bastide does it, it’s a floral water I think. Hee, I learned about it from Robin’s review: http://www.nstperfume.com/2005/04/27/a-tale-of-two-peaches-cote-bastide-peche-de-vigne-keiko-mecheri-peau-de-peche/

I mean if KM PdP lasts about an hour on me anyway… might as well douse myself with 8oz of peach water for a quarter of the price. ;) Though I do love PdP’s sandalwoody drydown. Sigh!

Funny! The only Peche de Vigne thing I found was one by Molinard, and one site said it was one of the most disgusting scents of the year it was launched– super synthetic-smelling. I wasn’t going to say anything, but glad to know it’s a different brand! All that Cote Bastide stuff looks nice.

    Another set?

I think I’m on fragrance overload!

    “Chypre accord”?

    • Robin
      Posted on 17 September 2009

Yes, a group of notes meant to mimic the classic chypre base. Seeing it more & more often lately.

Ooohhh…I could get on board with that!

  7. Posted on 17 September 2009

The duo seems worth trying, for me, though I’ve entered a period of not being crazy about my iris fragrances. I assume that it’s temporary!

I have two KM fragrances, Ume (an unusual sweet-tart fruit fragrance) and Genie des Bois (a woodsy violet). I like them both very much.

    • Robin
      Posted on 17 September 2009

      Oh, let’s hope it’s temporary!

      • boojum
        Posted on 17 September 2009

If you decide it’s permanent, I’m sure I could give them a good home… ;) I’m pretty seasonal with my preferences, so maybe it’s just the wrong time of year. Or maybe, like me, you have some allergy/sinus thing going on that’s so mild you don’t notice it, but it messes up your perception of things.

        • Posted on 17 September 2009

Who knows? I did wear Dzongkha today and managed that just fine, so let’s hope it was a mild iris slump. I have lost any taste I had for cooler irises (need to sell or swap my Hiris away), but I think I still love the ones I consider “warmer”, like Bois d’Iris, Terre d’Iris, Dzongkha, and Iris Taizo (that latter one is a different animal altogether, though!). Thanks for the concern. :-)

I really haven’t tried this line and need to see if they have any kind of sample program. I enjoy the aesthetic of the bottles. Also agree that four launches at once is a lot. I still really want to try her Oliban.

    • Robin
      Posted on 17 September 2009

Sorry to say I can’t remember the Oliban. I do like the Osmanthus.

Hey, Joe–You can order samples of some of her fragrances from her website (http://www.keikomecheri.com/) for only $8.00 for 5 samples. (I did that and they threw in some extras). I did fall in love with Oliban (which may become one of my rare bottle purchases), and also liked Bois de Santal and Ume. There’s a certain soft, spicy aesthetic to everything of hers that I’ve tried–she has a very distinct style–which I find very comforting. I really like Loukhuom for sleeping (and it lasts forever) but am not sure I want to leave the house smelling of baby powder/candy.

      • Robin
        Posted on 17 September 2009

Oh, I like Bois de Santal too…almost forgot about that one.

      • Joe
        Posted on 18 September 2009

Thanks. I did see that info about the sample program, but unfortunately they only have 12 of the 30 fragrances available as samples right now. Hmm. Not like I need more samples anyway, so I may just get the ones I want from TPC or elsewhere.

I tried and liked Peau de Peche for it’s almost peach schnapps feel, but it didn’t last very long on me, as was the case with Wild Berries, I believe. But it’s been a few years since I tested the samples. I do recall loving her Musc, I believe. I really should put in for another order of samples. There’s still a lot of them I want to try. Now there’s four more. *sigh* Time to get the coffee beans…

The smell is incredible…we grow them too.

        Posted on 18 September 2009

Oh, I didn’t know those grew in the northeast! They grow to tree-height out here and don’t give off scent until evening — the variety I’m familiar with, anyway. It’s amazing to stand under a tree at dusk and inhale the aroma!

Hi, first post ever although I’ve been reading you regularly for well over a year. I see KM in a different light since I fell deeply in love with the wonderful Genie des Bois, so I am interested. The irises sound particularly promising.

      Posted on 18 September 2009

Hi and welcome! The irises really do sound nice, agree.
