Fragrance offerings at Maison Francis Kurkdjian

Francis KurkdjianMaison Francis Kurkdjian, the eponymous house of the well-known perfumer Francis Kurkdjian, opens in Paris on Monday, at 5 rue d’Alger in Paris. The fragrances will be available in traditional Eau de Toilette and Eau de Parfum, but also in scented laundry detergents and fabric softeners, incense papers, candles, and even scented bubbles and leather bracelets.

Aqua Universalis, is “inspired by the scent of cleanliness” and features bergamot, Sicilian lemon, lily of the valley, sweet mock orange and light and musky woods.

APOM (A Piece of Me) pour Femme has notes of orange blossom, cedar and ylang-ylang.

APOM pour Homme has notes of orange blossom, cedar and amber.

Lumière Noire pour Femme features spiced rose, patchouli and narcissus.

Lumière Noire pour Femme Homme has notes of spiced rose, patchouli and mugwort herb.

In addition, there is a Cologne Pour le Matin and Cologne Pour le Soir. Look for the Maison Francis Kurkdjian products later this year at Liberty of London, Bergdorf Goodman, and the Neiman Marcus stores in Beverly Hills and Chicago. (via wwd, cosmeticnews)

“A Piece of Me”? Scented bubbles and leather bracelets? What’s going on here? Somebody needs to swing by and check this place out, tout suite! (I’d volunteer but can’t quite make it…)

Yeah, wish I could volunteer too! But no dice.

I was at the Neiman Marcus in Las Vegas yesterday and wanted something a bit unique. The salesperson told me this is sold but in 5 places in the world. Here are my 2 cents worth:

Aqua Universalis: nice clean scent but not unique to me.
APOM: staying power, nice but a bit in your face for my taste.
Lumiere Noir: nice and a bit diff – my favourite & I bought a bottle. Cologne Pour le Soir: ALL the women LOVE this one. I should share that I know the staff there personally hence all the sniffing :-) reminds me of Indian incense and no staying power.

Thanks for all your input which I have enjoyed for over a year now. Thought it’s time I contribute :-)

I’m afraid the SA was pulling your leg a bit…they’re currently at over 5 places in the US alone. But thanks for the reviews!

Yep…too bad they won’t be at any store near me. Maybe we’ll get lucky & one of the online niche retailers will get the line.

Sounds very interesting and inventive – crossing my fingers for an on-line store and a sample programme…

And I can tell you now from my own experience: it is a great place to be, and the products are ‘have-to-haves’!! The pleasure of the place itself was in the details, all the time discovering another fine detail.

I bought the wonderful perfumed leather/silver bracelet scented with Aqua Universalis. Delicately this aromatic, clean scent was accompaying me when I was moving my arm, cycling through lovely Paris.
Innovative applications, like the bracelet, the bubbles and the laundry care!

Great fragrances. I could not choose between APOM and Aqua Universalis, both so delicate but still full of character. So I bought them both :-)

And even more excited that I will be able to experience and buy Maison Francis Kurkdjian in Amsterdam in October.

I’m terrible, I still haven’t tried them. Must get to it.

He is so talented. I like the concept of the line, but the Aqua Universalis and the Cologne Pour le Matin were not special enough to me. I also liked the Cologne Pour le Soir, but not the 200ml bottle (only size).

The Lumiere Noire Pour Femme is an amazing dark rose/patchouli with a whisper of cumin and daffodil to round it out. Just gorgeous and somehow not feminine. Darker than Paestum Rose from Duchaufour.

He is terribly talented, but his style doesn’t always suit me. Still, a darker PR is very tempting!

I dismissed Maison FK because I had only tried Cologne pour le Matin and Aqua Universalis on my skin (I tried them all in the store, but was overwhelmed with boutique-hopping at the time). About face! Lumiere Noire pour Femme is a gorgeous modern take on Aromatics Elixir, and Lumiere Noire pour Homme would be beautiful on a woman too. LN pour Homme lasted and lasted on my skin, the entire day, even outshadowed a spritz of Amouage Gold I couldn’t resist when we passed a perfume store downtown. Yet it’s fresh, kind of like Ellena’s scents. I really enjoyed it. Cologne pour Le Soir is a gorgeous light leather. To me, FK does minimalism, but with a drama that other minimalists like Ellena sometimes lack. Kind of classical minimalism instead of modern minimalism. If I had a better perfume budget, I’d go out and buy a few of these, starting with Lumiere Noire pour Femme, which would fill a hole in my collection. For now, I’m enjoying pressing my scarf to my nose.
