I like the way your mind works, Angela! Excellent point. You’ve inspired me to pull out my sample vial of L’Air du Desert Marocain and enjoy the final drop within. It may just be time to spring for a full bottle!

Well, then, with L’Air smelling so good, who needs Une Rose Chypree? I wonder if Tauer’s Eau Epicee would be a good way for you to get your rose kick.

You’re not alone. Une Rose Chypree smells absolutely awful on my skin. I don’t know what it is I so vehemently despise (is it the patchouli? but I don’t mind it in other scents), but whatever it is comes off harsh and chemical-smelling on my skin, and not unlike another fragrance I abhor, SL Chypree Rouge. I wish this worked on me the way it works on so many others (I could use a little cinnamon in my life!), but alas, it’s not meant to be.

L’Air du Desert Marocain, on the other hand, is downright divine.

Thanks for the great review Angela!
I ordered a sample of this one and I love the dry but full scent of it. NYC is now in the transition from fall to winter so it’s a bit chilly – I think Une Rose Chypre fits the weather quite nicely.
I’m thinking I’m going to have to allow myself to have this one. But I can’t afford to love any more perfume this year. T-T

Such a lovely post, Angela. Tauer’s stuff is always impressive even if it doesn’t always suit. I think part of me just likes to see a genuinely nice person do well at something they enjoy. Not to mention something that brings such joy to others.

Your post reminded me of one of my favorite poems by Mary Oliver. It seemed to fit the idea of roses and of time passing.

When the Roses Speak, I Pay Attention

“As long as we are able to
be extravagant we will be
hugely and damply
extravagant. Then we will drop
foil by foil to the ground. This
is our unalterable task and we do it
joyfully.”

And they went on. “Listen,
the heart-shackles are not, as you think,
death, illness, pain,
unrequited hope, not loneliness,
but

lassitude, rue, vainglory, fear, anxiety,
selfishness.”

Their fragrance all the while rising
from their blind bodies, making me
spin with joy.
