Somewhere in New York City…

The new ad promo for Donna Karan’s DKNY Be Delicious ‘Delicious Art’ edition. The first part is live action; midway it switches to an animated version of a pop art comic strip developed by illustrator Brad Hamann. See the print ads below the jump.

Interesting demographic they’re appealing to: comic book-reading perfume lovers? (Ok, I’ll ‘fess up, that would be me…)

Me too…first Be Delicious ad I’ve liked, and wish they’d skipped the live action entirely.

Gracious, is that the music? Didn’t even recognize it!

Dunno about the music (haven’t watched the clip), but that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the still….

OK, did some quick googling. Don’t know how I could have never seen that video before, but I hadn’t.

Well Robin, imagine how it was to see that video in the 80′s.. it was revolutionary!

It got awards from all music channels…

This was from the time when doing a music clip did not involve swiping a platinum credit card throught the butt of some model on camera… :-)

I watched MTV all the time then. I must have seen it and forgotten?

Man, I was just listening to this in the car with my friend singing the literal version lyrics (hilarious, by the way), so I was thought, “No way!”

Then I looked down and remembered the video. Of course!

        Now I feel stupid.

LOL. Actually the look of that video would be a lot more interesting than this. I like comics too but this Lichtensteinish pop art thing doesn’t make me want to actually smell anything; I’m too distracted by the enormous green blobs.

Presumably since it’s not a new scent, it’s not necessarily meant to make you want to go smell it so much as to make you want to buy a cool bottle of it :-)

I’m with you. I’ve never been into Be Delicious, so i don’t really care about it. And I have to say, if anyone was really going to meld comics and perfume, i want a Catwoman perfume. Actually, I’d rather just speculate as to what Catwoman would wear…

Mmm, I think you have the seed for an idea on a series of articles.

I am picturing “Lazy Friday Poll.. what fragrance would INSERT YOUR FAVOURITE COMIC CHARACTER HERE wear?”

I can Imagine wonder woman, batman, superman, Lois Lane….
Hell I can even imagine DC licensing the names for a collaboration with frederic malle… too bad I am not a high power executive in the fragrance world! :-)

            Frederic Malle Wonder Woman! Yes.

Ooh, I wonder (no pun intended) what that would smell like??

Yes, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Black Canary…if someone else doesn’t make them, maybe I will!

Mind meld! Just this morning I was musing to myself that Catwoman would definitely wear Bandit…

Great poll idea, kaos… I want to know what Daisy Mae Abner, Little Orphan Annie, and Bianca Castafiore would wear! (Does Demeter make a pork chop scent for Daisy Mae? Not sure about Annie, but I’m pretty sure Castafiore would be drenched in Mitsouko.)

Catwoman..hmm, what would she wear? Something sultry with Catnip in it; may some patchouli, some oakmoss, something warm, like clove, spicy, like ginger, some rose, jasmine, with a hint of iris.

Still one of my favorites! It’s part of our family tradition! Our daughter thinks her parents are certifiable.

Anyone seen the literal video of Take On Me on youtube? “I’m gonna hit this guy with my own pipe wrench…”

      • asuperlongusername
        Posted on 31 July 2009

        “Pipe wrench fight!”

        • Posted on 31 July 2009

Wow, I really dragged things off topic! Sorry about that… I posted and then went to bed! But yes, “Take On Me” is one of the *best videos ever* and it still makes me teary-eyed (happy ending!)… and I’m sure the DKNY people were familiar with it… and I love the “literal version” too! :)

Hah, that was EXACTLY what I was thinking. Or he should, really, since he was the one offering it.

  4. Posted on 1 August 2009

how many Be Delicious flankers are they going to release?!?!

    • Robin
      Posted on 3 August 2009

Strictly speaking, this one isn’t even a real flanker — just a collector bottle.
