So, whether you’re sailing on a schooner or just enjoying the clear blue sky, this is your new Summer scent. fabulous for men or women!

The notes feature bergamot, coriander, khaffir lime leaf, lemon, lime peel, geranium, juniper berry, rosewood, spices, musk, patchouli, rum and tobacco.

Well, doesn’t this just cry out for me to try…..
I just placed an order with her 2 days ago….really shouldn’t go anywhere near the DSH site….maybe just a quick look would be okay?

      Don’t look.

hahaha….how about this? time me and see how long I can hold out! actually I’m distracting myself by researching pond vacs….more expensive than perfume and way less fun. :-(

I was thinking the same thing, Daisy. This sounds wonderful, although the ex was a big fan of Bay Rhum… I hope this wouldn’t be too reminiscent of that or him! LOL!

      Posted on 26 July 2009

I’ve heard the name before, but I have no idea what Bay Rhum smells like. However, I don’t think it’d be very nice to be constantly reminded of an ex…..walking around irritated all day.
I didn’t notice before that it lists Kaffir lime leaf…I wonder if this is similar to Anya’s Garden Kaffir which I did not like in the least.

I love lime, but have gone wrong with it many times before. I tend to smell like industrial cleaner more than I’d care to. But I’m a glutton for punishment, so I’ll try this. (And I haven’t tried any of the DSH’s, so this seems as a good a place as any to start.)

Lime doesn’t always work for me either, but I do love it. If you try it, do report back!

L’Artisan’s Jatamansi has a great lime note that is very fresh and true. Leaf may be an entirely different animal although, I love petitgrain, which is the leaf of the bitter orange tree.

With the lemon and the lime peel, sounds ‘zesty’. Oy, sorry bout that. hehe I would like to try this.

Ack, another DSH to add to the list to sample. Sounds nice. I’ve never seen “khaffir” spelled that way… I also love the look of that packaging.

I’d jump in an say the same thing, but since I was wrong about “Brasil,” I’m clearly not as educated as I would have myself believe.

Drop me a line! I think there was something I offered to send you a sample of, but I have the attention span of a gnat, and can’t remember what.

I assumed it was a typo.
or maybe it’s a lime doing some hhhheavy breathing…

I saw a few other mentions on Google, perhaps it’s an acceptable alternative.

Sounds yummy, although I’m not a big oil fan. I’m assuming that essential oils are actually in oil form? Do they last longer than edp?

    • Robin
      Posted on 26 July 2009

No, this comes in EdP & water formula also, you don’t have to get the oil.

I love lime and am adding this to the list of DSHs to try. I haven’t procured anything from her site yet. I just get soo overwhelmed by all the wonderful choices… Like a buffet for the nose. I simply don’t know where to begin. I wonder if there’s a favorites sample set available? And would my scent choices fit in that sample set? Hmmm…

    • Robin
      Posted on 27 July 2009

I’m pretty sure she does have sample sets. Also check the reviews at MakeupAlley, there are lots of them.

    Posted on 27 July 2009

This should be a good one since her scents are virtually all natural – I only get into trouble with so-called “lime” when it’s in some hideous mall clone frag that’s usually marketed as unisex and unlikely to have much, if any, of the real thing in it. (You know what I’m talkin; ’bout, Calvin.) :-)

    • Robin
      Posted on 27 July 2009

I think only some of the scents are mostly natural?

Everything sounds great but the lime! ha :) I still want to try it though.. surely I can find a way to love a bit of lime.

It’s funny… at the moment I must have all of 25 DSH samples. (Seriously. I shouldn’t have that many, but they mixed up my sample order with someone who, apparently, has the same first name, and graciously resent my order while allowing me to keep the wrong stuff. Voila, lotsa lotsa samples.) In any case, when I see “DSH” in a review title, I think, “OOOH! Maybe I’ve smelled this one…” but it’s never, never one I’ve tested. I suppose that speaks to the fact that the DSH website is so labyrinthine and stocked to the brim, but it also points up that my taste is very different from yours. :)

I saw that Wasabi Shiso, for example, and shuddered. Viridian? Um, I’ll pass. Jitterbug, Dirty Rose, Cimabue – they all sound great, but they all sound like Not Really Me. I love love love Oeillets Rouges, and Rose Vert is beautiful as well; I’d call both of them Edgy Pretty (which is about as Edgy as I can handle). The other one of Dawn’s I love is the Silk Road, which is all tea-florals-spices-leather-tobacco, a sort of old-fashioned steamer trunk of a scent. Maybe sometime I will try the Pamplemousse, too.

    • Robin
      Posted on 27 July 2009

Oh, sounds like I need to try Silk Road, that sounds lovely — even if we do have very different tastes :-)

      • Daisy
        Posted on 27 July 2009

oh btw Robin….I tried really hard to NOT look at Dawn’s site again….but I caved and ordered some samples….changing my name to Zero Willpower Daisy….sigh

      Posted on 27 July 2009

oh yeah, comments like these really help me to stay away from perfume buying….NOT!
Mals—have you tried DSH Arabian Rose? It is one big lovely rose that does not turn to wine and does not turn to syrup—I just ordered some of the perfume oil and the EDP for J. —since she is a big rose-ho too. It is very similar in dry down to Montale’s Highness Rose, just way less spendy.

I’m desperately trying not to hit the buy button on the sizzling summer scents sampler – it has the Lime, Pamplemousse, Quinacridone Violet, and the Wasabi, all of which I really want to try. But…. I already have 60 – 70 other samples, plus 40+ FBs. I really have to stop.

Does anyone know what size her samples are? Are they all 1 ml?

        • Daisy
          Posted on 27 July 2009

All the samples that I’ve gotten from DSH have been the standard 1ml size….like TPC , Luckyscent and Aedes.
(It’s good to ask though since some independent perfumers send you about 4 drops for 7 bucks! sheesh!)

          • CynthiaW
            Posted on 27 July 2009

Well, then $35 for 10 samples, including shipping is a pretty good deal. It’s a good thing that school is getting ready to start up and I’ll have to go back to work in a few weeks – it’s less expensive all around when I have less time on my hands.

btw – I finally got to try the Le Labo Fleur d’Oranger 27 that you scent me – it was so beautiful that I couldn’t stop sniffing my arm yesterday! I think that I’m going to have to get a FB of that, too.

          • Daisy
            Posted on 27 July 2009

LOL good thing you’re getting back to work soon then…Le Labo is some uber-spendy stuff! I don’t think there’s any listed at scentwiki for sale, but I have a 100ml bottle so if you decide that 5 or 10ml is enough –let me know and I’m sure we can work something out.
hahaha my Dangerous Daisy Super Enabler status remains intact!

        Nope, haven’t tried Arabian Rose!

Dang. Finger hovering over the luckyscent “buy” button on samples of Teo Cabanel (I have one of Julia, you can guess why – it’s lovely but very innocent – but wanted very much to try Oha and Alahine), as well as some Divine samples (Divine, L’infante, and L’ame Soeur). NOT THAT I NEED MORE SAMPLES… sigh. Leaving my cart where it is for now. Paypal password firmly in pocket. Might go get my sister a GC & samples for her birthday, though… she’s been living in Coco Mad since Xmas, and I can’t help but think that she’d like to have something different as well… and I can just, um, toss some samples for ME in the cart…

        • Daisy
          Posted on 27 July 2009

samples do get quite lonely if there are very few in the cart….they really like to be shipped in larger groups as well. They have a “flocking” kind of instinct….you can tell by the way they sort of roll together in basket …..and apparently this flocking behavior is a well known thing….after all, the CEO knows very little about perfume and yet the other night as he was trying to move about 50 samples out of the way of the computer keyboard I was sure I heard him mutter something about all these flocking samples! ;-)

D, I love how you pass it off as “I ordered it for J.” I do love that technique… and I’d use it, too… if there were anyone else in my household!

        • Daisy
          Posted on 27 July 2009

welllllll….I DID buy it for J. –progeny can be so useful….that’s how I convinced the CEO to buy our first computer years ago…J went to kindergarten and other kids knew about computers thus, she was being “DISADVANTAGED” by not having access…..worked like a charm….I had, er , I mean she had a computer in the house in no time!
Arabian Rose…of course I bought one for ME too!
          mu-wahahahaha!

I think that Robin had mentioned a few weeks back that we now have a permanent 10% off purchase discount code “NST” at DSH…
I received this sample with my last order and only tried a tinsy-winsy bit of it – very pretty!

    • Daisy

We do! I used that code today when I ordered samples….too bad I forgot about it when I ordered $150 in perfume last week!
      sigh…. :-(

What is the staying power for the DSH scents. I need staying power!! thanks

    • Daisy
      Posted on 29 July 2009

The DSH EdPs are available with or without fixative…I can’t imagine why anyone would buy it without fixative (allergy perhaps?) anyhow, the ones I’ve tried are pretty good for lasting power. The oils that I’ve tried , a couple drops last most of the day —–pretty good considering I’m the queen of perfume eating skin.

    • OperaFan
      Posted on 30 July 2009

Like Daisy, my skin also tends to absorb a lot of scents. My experiences with DHS (and I’ve tried both oils and edp) is that they tend to have have light to medium sillage, but can last 3-6 hrs depending on the fragrance formula.
