Estee Lauder Brasil Dream for Him ~ new fragrance

Estee Lauder Brasil Dream for Him

Estée Lauder has launched Brasil Dream for Him, the masculine counterpart to last year’s Brasil Dream for Her. It is currently exclusive to travel retail.

The notes for the “sultry woody scent” include kumquat, bergamot, cardamom, coriander, white pepper, neroli, nutmeg, cinnamon, oregano, patchouli, labdanum, jalapeno pepper, pimento and leather.

Estée Lauder Brasil Dream for Him is available in 50 ml Cologne.

Update: see a review of Brasil Dream for Him.

Jalapeno Pepper??? really??? I don’t remember ever seeing that listed as a note before….is that very common? I’m not sure I want to smell like salsa…..but that’s just me.

Not common, but have seen it before. Hot peppers of various kinds are listed as fragrance notes though, and since they’re presumably all synthetic they can probably just pick a pepper name at random, right?

With all those spices, the jalapeno, and the pimento, we can assume it will at least TASTE interesting….

Marko: Check out l’Artisan’s “Piment brulant” — it is the olfactory hologram of a fleshly sliced jalapeno pepper. Hot and refreshing at the same time. Best, Scott.

Thanks, Scott – I’ll give “Piment brulant” a try real soon, it’s been on my list for a while.

I love Piment Brulant since testing it last winter and I’ve been after a 15ml mini ever since…

The bottle looks like it’s full of Bailey’s :-)

The Brasil for her is all neroli on me. The best of the range but also quite forgettable

I don’t think I smelled it, but cant’ remember. I know I did eventually smell the Emerald Dream.

I liked Bali Dream but Emerald Dream was a scrubber for me. I love the quilted bottles and ED’s reminds me especially of a swimming pool. I was expecting aquatic but not the screechy nightmare it turned out to be for me. I’d rather just smell a bottle of chlorine. (Such a happy smell for me for a potentially toxic chemical! lol) These both reached my TJ Maxx in full bottle and in a set of four minis (two ED, two Bali). I’m hoping both Brasil m&f follow suit.

Ah, thanks — that’s another good place to look for them.

I thought that it said Basil Dream for him at first – which I thought sounded odd, but interesting. Once I saw that is was actually Brasil, I was afraid that it would be a tropical scent, but the notes makes it sound like it’s at least worth a sniff.

That’s what I read too– “Basil Dream”! A basil note could be attractive. Does anyone know any scents that use it?

Marc Jacobs did one of his splashes in Basil – nice enough, lasts about two minutes.

I’d guess it will end up in “regular” department stores eventually? Emerald Dream did, but now I can’t remember if I’ve seen Bali Dream or Brasil Dream in Macy’s.

Speaking of ‘basil’, does anyone remember when Lancome did a fragrance, when Isabella Rosselini was their spokesmodel, that was supposed to be a basil scent?

Ok, maybe it’s a little early in the morning for Miss K, but what the heck is Brasil?? Do they mean Brazil? Or am I just going crazy, and this is some common word that everyone knows about??

  5. Posted on 23 July 2009

ohhhh this looks interesting – bottle, box and notes! I would actually be intrigued to smell it, and hope I like it! (there’s nothing worse than a fragrance you’ve been anticipating and then it lets you down) *writes on list*

LOL…but most of them let me down :-)

The jalapeno pepper (it’s a Mexican pepper) and the other notes haven’t anything to do with Brasil (Brazil to the unprepared like Miss K), unfortunately the American people think that below the Great River we’re all the same thing…

    • Robin
      Posted on 23 July 2009

Most fragrances that are “inspired” by geographical locales have little enough to do with the place in question.

      • sergelutencio
        Posted on 23 July 2009

Yes I agree with you, but the Jalapeno is a typical Mexican pepper, it’s a kind of a symbol of this beautiful country, why don´t put a typical brazilian note in the mess??? It sounds me like a prejudice, sorry, but it’s my opinion…

          Posted on 23 July 2009

You could be right, I won’t argue…but to me it is not much different than the coconut featured in Mark Instant Vacation Greek Isles.

          • sergelutencio
            Posted on 23 July 2009

ok, but coconut is more universal than the Jalapeno

          Posted on 23 July 2009

Maybe it’s a fusion influence, but I’ve seen jalepeno peppers in Asian dishes and we use it in all kinds of food besides Mexican food in our house – fresh jalepenos, mind you, not those horrid pickled things. Besides, although it might be associated with Mexico to a certain extent, it’s not even used in all Mexican dishes – I think that it depends on the region.

I’m not saying that jalapenos have anything to do with Brasil, but I don’t think they are exclusively Mexican.

            Posted on 24 July 2009

I have no doubt about the Mexican origin of the Jalapeños http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jalape%C3%B1o, I think that the Estée Lauder crew could do a better research about Brasil before launch a scent that has nothing to do with the country, and worst, put a typical product of Mexico like something that could put a Brazilian taste or image on the product.

          • CynthiaW
            Posted on 24 July 2009

Oh, I know they originated in Mexico, but I guess that I just figured that they are so ubiquitous now that they weren’t solely associated with Mexico. Of course, I might just think that jalapenos are everywhere because I went to high school in New Mexico and have lived in Texas for the last 18 years.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few perfumes out there that will fool you with names, marketing, and notes – it seems like every other day we read the notes in a new perfume and notice that they don’t seem to have anything to do with the name or how it’s marketed.

    • Patrizia
      Posted on 23 July 2009

And Brazilians speak Spanish, don’t they? ;)

I was hoping to see something Brazilian in the notes, it’s a pity they just use evocative names.
By the way, I love your nickname. SérgioLutencio would have been even better.
