In addition to the 3 Fleurs fragrance announced yesterday, Parfum d’Empire will also be launching Wazamba: “a forest of aromatic pine that reveals the thousand faces of incense, a sacred substance in all the great civilizations”.
The notes include aldehydes, incense, myrrh, sandalwood, opoponax, cypress, apple and balsam of fir.
Parfum d’Empire Wazamba will be in Eau de Parfum. I’ll update with sizes when I find them. (via finmark.it)

Incense, myrhh, opoponax….I’m drooling. And what a great name. “What perfume are you wearing?” “WaZAMba!” It’s right up there with Dzing! and Dzongha.

It’s a perfect name, not least because it means nothing to me.
I love the name – it’s hilarious and not in the unintentional way that they usually are. The juice sounds really interesting too.

Hoping opoponax is not what I think, or that it’s not very prominent; this sounds perfect otherwise! Funny that they call it a forest of pine, yet list cypress and fir balsam in the notes; wonder if they left the pine off as obvious, or just use “pine” generically, as I do, for “evergreen”.
I thought that too – “So where’s the pine, then?” Have to say that I’m a little scared of the evergreen stuff, but the incense sounds fab.

It will be interesting to see if this becomes another “Mom’s art studio” varnish and resin smell like AT’s Incense Extreme, or if I will be able to get away with it. Also seems like it could teeter toward car air freshener. But it’s on my List!

From a close read of the ad copy, it sounds as if the pine is under the umbrella of “incense”. If so, I’d be surprised if the pine and fir didn’t drown out the myrhh, sandalwood and opoponax, leaving a Christmas tree scent. But if I’ve learned anything on my perfume journey, it’s that you really can’t tell much from the list of notes. This could very well be fantastic!
SPOILER (ROBIN, DON’T READ): Wazamba is African for old women or midwives.

Seems meant to evoke Africa, but the only reference to “wazemba” in that context is use as a word for old woman or midwife in an old ethnography of Nyasaland, which I believe became Malawi. I somehow doubt that a midwife reference is what PdE was shooting for, however.

LOL, I found approximately what you did. Having had 2 children myself, I want nothing evoking a midwife or childbirth in my perfume, TYVM. But as I also said, I can’t imagine that’s where they got it (or what they meant by it).

i WILL find an incensey fragrance that i actually like. i will! and i’ll also try not to let my distaste for rose get in the way of my love for jasmine and tuberose.
i have a soft spot for parfum d’empire, even when a particular fragrance of theirs isn’t something i would buy.
I have a soft spot for them too, although I haven’t fallen in love w/ any of them to the point of purchasing.
This sounds awesome. The copy reminded me of CdG’s Incense: Zagorsk. Definitely be getting a sample.
I’ll definitely try it too…hoping it’s darker than Zagorsk, although I do like Zagorsk too.
