Prada L’Eau Ambree ~ new fragrance

Prada L'Eau Ambree perfume

Prada will launch L’Eau Ambrée, the latest in their series of amber-based perfumes (see Prada Eau de Parfum, Prada Intense, Prada Eau Tendre and Prada Amber Pour Homme), in September. The new fragrance promises to modernize traditional amber and to have a “…graceful presence, empowering but never demanding”.

L’Eau Ambrée was developed by perfumer Daniela Andrier, and the notes include citron, rose de mai and amber.

Prada L’Eau Ambrée will be available in 30, 50 and 80 ml Eau de Parfum. (via parfumerie.nl, latribune.fr, sinofile.net, dailyluxury.it)

Update: additional notes for Prada L’Eau Ambrée include patchouli, vanilla and opoponax.

Another update: see a review of Prada L’Eau Ambrée.

“empowering but never demanding” … soft but hard, large yet small, of course but I don’t think so…..sigh.

Looked up Daniela’s track record, and anybody who can come up with something like Infusion d’Iris can’t be all bad. :-)

I also note she created Lancome’s Attraction, which won a 2003 Fifi. Interesting. That one sank like a stone, (Oddly enough, I loved it, and have a bottle.) So a big hit and a big miss are part of her history.

I know you’re not a huge fan of amber, Robin, but perhaps this one is still worth sniffing?

It’s true I’m not a huge fan of amber, but in general I think Prada has done a fabulous job with perfume, and I do love the Prada Man (although to me, it is not all that ambery). I will certainly try this one!

I love the bottle. Haven’t been crazy–or even mildly interested–in a Prada yet.

No, not a one? I think they do a great job w/ fragrance.

No, not a one. I like them when I smell them on other people, but the first one was too much on me, and the iris just smells like soap.

The only Prada that has any appeal for me is the Infusion D’Homme for men – my husband wears it and once in a while I sneak a spray. This one sounds interesting, though.

    Waht are your favourite ambers?
mine are ambre sultan of lutens, l’artisan ambre extreme but i am lloking for amber vanilla that can be worn in the summer!

I’m not a big amber fiend…will let others answer this.

      Posted on 8 July 2009

I’d love to know the answer to this question too! I’m crazy about Pafumerie Generale L’Ombre Fauve (amber, vanilla, musk and patchouli) but I’m finding it too pathcouli-laden for summer.

I’m horrible w/categories, but two frags I like that at least have noticeable amber notes are RL Safari and Stephanie de Saint-Aignan’s Berberiades. Of the two, Berberiades would be more wearable in the summer, since the spices make it seem a bit drier than the Safari. I wouldn’t describe either one as light, though.

MPG Ambre Precieux is my Holy Grail of ambers, the pinnacle: there is none better, and it’s pricey but worth it. The original Prada, in the pink box, is also very good (I’m not such a fan of the men’s version), and I love the sunshine-bright Voile D’Ambre by Yves Rocher.

I just tried Anné Pliska yesterday for the first time and it’s a good, though decidedly weird, amber scent, a fauvist Calvin Klein Obsession with every one of the proportions tweaked. Worth a try–and not at all expensive, $65 for a quarter-ounce of perfume at Luckyscent. I don’t love it, but I can see how it could inspire mad love.

Ambre preceiux sounds right for me, ill get it, even though my perfume count this spring summer is horribly high!

Profumum Ambra Aurea is a gorgeous amber vanilla scent. It’s just ridiculously expensive.
Ambra del Nepal isn’t quite so heavy and perhaps more wearable in the heat.
L’Artisian L’eau d’Ambre is light and worth a try, too.

The DH loves Prada Amber Pour Homme, so I may have to give this one a sniff. As a certified Amber lover, I still prefer infusing dark amber resin in jojoba oil.

I love Prada Amber Pour Homme too — but I’m not a certified amber lover :-)

One of my favourite ambers is Sonoma Scent Studio’s Ambre Noir. It’s a rich, dry, smoky amber with lots of burnt-caramel labdanum.

Another is Ayala Moriel’s Razala. It has pure ambergris in it and WOW, it is something else. It’s also so beautifully blended, that amber non-lovers might love it too; you’ve never smelled amber like this. It’s the priciest scent in her line because she pulled out all the stops to use the best natural ingredients (she’s known for her commitment to non-synthetics) and pays through the nose for them herself. The stuff lasts for a lonnnng time. You can buy samples online from her website. Notes are:
Oudh, ambergris, blood orange, myrrh, orange blossom absolute, rose otto, saffron, tuberose absolute, white magnolia.

Those notes sound so amazing…oh no! But I made a resolution to stop buying samples unsniffed as I’m lucky enough to live in London and have good access to shops *sigh*

I actually like the original Prada with the purple bulb on it. It’s especially good if you don’t put too much on! But my fav ambers are Coco, L’Artisan Eau d’Amber, Mouboussin (2000), Badgley Mischka, L’Air du Desert Maroccain, L’Interdit (Les Mythiques), Lancome’s (La Collection) Magie (a great aldehyde jasmine-amber), Estee Lauder PC Amber YY, and extra special love for SSS Rose Musc (yummy amber and labdanum), and SSS Tabac Aurea.

C has it too! Say it isn’t so. More evidence. Well, I also just discovered that I like the Citizen Queen from JHAG too, so it seems our circles are moving closer over each other!!

Big fan of amber here – I can’t wait to try this. I know those bulb atomizers aren’t supposed to be very practical, but I just adore how they look.

    • Robin

I think you can buy it w/o the bulb.

I adore amber. My favourite-of-favourites is Histoires de Parfum’s Ambre 114, closely followed by the very sweet Ambre Passion by Laura Mercier (which looks as if it’s been discontinued). Oh, and Ormond Jayne’s Tolu…yum.

In my soapmaking sideline, I found Eden Botanicals which sells amber oils and “crystallized essences”. You can get a sampler pack of all 10 oils and 11 essences for a mere $16.

I’m definitely an amber fan, so I look forward to trying this. I haven’t tried much at all by Prada, except Infusion d’Iris, which I really like, so that bodes well!

I miss the sadly discontinued Caswell-Massey oils, which included Amber, which I layered with their Tuberose.
Also gone: C-M Hot Stuff, Holy Smoke, Civet, Hot Patchouli, Ambergris…..
Thankfully, I still have supplies from the 80s.

    • Robin

      Never tried any of them…

        Posted on 8 July 2009

Back in the good old days, I only used oil-based scents because my skin chem did awful things to so many commercial perfumes.
I think part of it is citrus. Here in Portland there was Uncommon Scents, and Escential (the Perfume House as well, but I dared not enter at that time). Caswell-Massey had a great range of scents in their Chicago store when I was stationed in Great Lakes. Hence the big stash.

I miss them too – CM also sold that “mixing solution” so you could make your own fragrances from all their essential oils. Yes, missed indeed. I’ve liked a few of their fragrances as well…..

You might like to try the Auric Blends amber and other oils too. … I like their amber – nothing extraordinary, but it is warm and soft and very easy to wear. I craved it when I was pregnant!

Holy Smoke rocked. I loved going in there, especially after I had read “Perfume”, and poking around in those wonderful brown apothecary bottles. I still have a couple but pretty empty.

I have a vinyl tote bag that is black and ombre-ish and it has gold detailing.
If they have a purse size I should get it to match my bag!!!

I like the Pour Homme, Infusion d’Iris and Infusion d’Homme, but not really the other rectangular shaped ones. It’ll be worth a try though.
I really want to try some of their exclusive ones too.

I love the original Prada, have not tried the Prada Intense, and can’t wait to try this one as well. I’ve liked everything I’ve smelled from Prada so far, and this looks like it will have a similar result.

I have to confess that for an inexpensive yet surprisingly complex amber, BBW’s Sensual Amber is fantastic. I scored a couple of the LE eau de parfums they put out a couple years ago for the holiday season, and am totally impressed with the sheer yumminess of it each time I wear it. And if you like it, there’s a slew of bath, body, and home fragrance products (as usual) so you could really surround yourself with it if so inclined.

It really does sound wonderful! I will probably not run to the mall to try it until late next week.

      Posted on 30 August 2009

I was lucky enough to snag a sample of this from Neiman’s a few weeks ago – it’s been so beastly hot here that I hadn’t wanted to try it on skin (I did sniff it on a ribbon at NM). I finally broke down and sprayed it on tonight – it’s a very warm, spicy, sexy, yet comforting scent. I really like it – I hesitate to suggest that anyone buy something unsniffed because of the differences in body chemistry, but it really is a great scent. I generally like the Pradas though and they seem to work well on me – although it did take me awhile to work up to Infusion d’Iris because it gave me a headache at first.

A friend of mine does PR for Prada perfume and just sent me a bottle of L’Eau Ambree for my birthday. I’m wearing it today and I rather like it! It’s pretty subtle. I have yet to form a full opinion, though I’m enjoying it in the meantime. :-)

    Thanks so much. :-)

Still wearing the new Prada and I love it. Though it doesn’t seem to have the most staying power on me. This morning I had to spray the eau de parfum several times to make it stick around longer than it did yesterday. So far, so good…

Spraying on clothes definitely helped for me – I picked up my shirt three days later and could still smell it. I almost hated to put my shirt in the wash.
